How would all 300 people be expected to find names on the register within 4 hours and then get accredited?
Is each polling officer going to carry a complete set of the register?
How do you determine the officer to go to in the event that they don't have a complete register?
What sort of register is expected - manual or electronic?

PoliticsRe: Acn: Ringim Must Go by Hatitude(op): 12:20pm On Apr 01, 2011
The party leader said ACN could not trust the President because he has refused to call the PDP governors oppressing the opposition to order. To buttress his point, the National Chairman described Udoedehe’s ordeal as the fallout of the replication of the military brutality and dictatorship by the PDP administration in Akwa Ibom. To him, that Ringim charged the governorship candidate with treason without any proof of evidence is laughable. "The on-going persecution of Senator Udoedehe confirms that Akpabio is a vicious civilian dictator. He clearly runs a gestapo government in Akwa Ibom State. There is every indication that the entire incident was carefully planned and orchestrated by the PDP government to implicate Senator Udoedehe. It is unfortunate that the IG of Police is neck deep in the plot to victimise and keep him out of circulation, until the governorship election is over," Akande emphasised. To the ACN National Chairman, there can be no level-playing ground where the governorship candidate of the party is languishing in detention and facing prosecution by the police on trumped-up charges and at the mercy of his opponent, Akpabio.

Akande described as unjust the detention of ACN members on community duty in Kwara State, lamenting that they were detained for repairing the road neglected by the PDP government for many years. He said the order by the Inspector General that voters should stay at the polling booth to monitor their votes or use camera and mobile phones to monitor votes recording conflicted with INEC’s dkirective. Akande said the directive was given by Ringim to assist the PDP in its bid to rig the elections. His words: "The person who is supposed to protect the sanctity of the electoral process is already brought over by PDP and is only acting their scripts. We are not surprised because the appointment of Ringim is a reward for the ignominious role he played in the installation of Goodluck Jonathan as the governor of Bayalsa State during the Alamieyesigha saga, in which Ringim proved himself a loyal tool in the arsenal of Goodluck Jonathan."

Akande said ACN members have suffered untold hardship and persecution in many states, including Taraba, Jigawa, Lagos, Osun, Edo, Ogun, Kebbi, Sokoto and Benue where, according to him, PDP thugs visited violence on them without the police raising an eyebrow. He warned that PDP leaders in government were enjoying transient immunities, reminding them that they cannot escape the day of accountability. Akande said: "The lesson from Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and other parts of the world is that no force on earth is strong to stop the power of a free and determined people to liberate themselves. A word should be sufficient to the wise."
PoliticsRe: Acn: Ringim Must Go by Hatitude(op): 12:19pm On Apr 01, 2011
He lamented that, despite its avowed commitment to free, fair and credible elections, the PDP-Federal Government is determined to maintain its stronghold on the country by all means and at all costs, irrespective of the popular will. The former Osun State governor lamented that this month’s elections would be taking place in an atmosphere of insecurity, adding that this attested to the gross incompetence and irresponsibility of the PDP, which has been ruling for 12 years. Akande reiterated ACN’s opposition to "the constant recourse to military men for constabulary duties," pointing out that the country is inviting trouble by reckless use of soldiers for partisan duties.

"The Jonathan Administration is only following the familiar path of drafting soldiers during elections to intimidate the opposition and tilt the polls in favour of the PDP," he fumed. Akande accused PDP governments across the states of preventing opposition from using public facilities, such as public squares, radio stations, and state-owned television stations for their campaigns, despite the fact that these facilities belong to all Nigerians.

He said PDP chieftains had been perpetrating violence against the opposition in a manner reminiscent of the murder of their own members, including Harry Marshall, A.K. Dikibo, Funsho Williams and former Deputy Leader of Afenifere, Chief Bola Ige.
"ACN considers as absolutely insincere and clearly hypocritical President Goodluck’s new directive to security agencies to arrest and prosecute trouble makers during the polling process. This is a barely concealed call on security agencies to further harass and intimidate the opposition to the advantage of the PDP," Akande said.
PoliticsRe: Acn: Ringim Must Go by Hatitude(op): 12:15pm On Apr 01, 2011
Also, the news was broken that the Ondo State ACN chairman, Mrs Jumoke Anifowose, a former Attorney-General and commissioner for Justice, was harassed by thugs who wanted to abduct her. With Akande were Mr. Audu Ogbe, National Secretary Senator Lawal Shuaibu, Alhaji Yusuf Ali, National Legal Adviser Dr Muiz Banire, Lagos State Publicity Sectretary, Comrade Joe Igbokwe, his deputy, Chief Funso Ologunde and former Environment Commissioner, Mr. Tunji Bello. Ogbeh decried the persistent attack on the ACN chieftains, submitting that rights were being violated with impunity. He said injustice against one Nigerian is an injustice against all.

Akande, who catalogued the harassment, intimidation and acts of violence against ACN chieftains nationwide, warned against the repeat of the electoral debacle of 2007. He said the party would stage a rally to protest the atrocities of the police under Ringim during the electioneering.

"With an Inspector General like Hafiz Ringim, the 2007 horrors may turn out to be a child’s play, They say people should not go to the polling booths with their phones. The SSS also gave directives on the election. Our people should know that it is the duty of the INEC, and not police and SSS, to give directives on elections," he added. Akande observed that the outcome of this year’s general elections would lay the premise for the future peace, progress and stability of the country or its descent to anarchy.
PoliticsAcn: Ringim Must Go by Hatitude(op): 11:51am On Apr 01, 2011
Police chief Hafiz Ringim was under attack yesterday. The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) called for the removal of the Inspector-General of Police before this month’s elections, saying "his activities are shameful to the noble profession of policing". The party also called for an independent panel of enquiry into the assassinations, kidnappings and violence that have claimed the lives of people in Akwa Ibom State since Governor Godswill Akpabio assumed the reins in 2007. ACN National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande alleged that the Inspector-General of Police has compromised his position and become a willing tool in the hand of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government. The party leader, who told reporters in Lagos that ACN has passed a vote of no confidence on Ringim, described him as a collaborator in the plot to keep the party’s governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Senator John Udoedehe, out of circulation, until after the elections. He said the police decided to team up with the ruling party to give the governor the upper hand at the poll, despite the fact that ACN is more popular than PDP in the state.

At the news conference held at the City Hall, Lagos Island, relations of the detained ACN chieftain in Mushin, Alhaji Taoreed Farounbi, protested his controversial detention and denial of access to medical facilities and his lawyers, urging the leadership of the party to wade into his tribulation.

I suggest you secretly take pictures as evidence then include all the details of the polling units and local govts.
Also, the corpers should switch on their mobile phones to record conversations. Ask the almajiris questions and let them know how old you think they are. Try to gather video evidence where you can. Be as discreet as you can about it and do your best to gather any information. This can be presented later and will check the proposed rigging.

We have to let these politrikcians know that it no longer business as usual.

I'm extremely impressed with your level of committment, keep up the wonderful work and pls don't relent in your effort to flood the web with your daily experiences. I also think you should also try compiling a voice diary. Record the daily events, include your location, ward unit etc and the date. As much as you can, write down some things from the day's event e.g the total number of people that are being registered daily. One thing you should always bear in mind is that you never know what can make you money and the chances are that stuff you document may become an asset to you. This is an experience you would not want forgotten and since man has limitations, it is wise to use all devices available to us to gather info that would most likely add value to us probably not immediately but in the future.

In addition, let us know what we can do to keep morale up. Once again thank you all for your hard work.

You most certainly need cameras and video evidence if the current spate of electoral malpractices is to be annihilated.

My view is nigerians in all nooks and crannies of the country should be encouraged to gather video and picture evidence then send or text them to a number or via skype, blackberry instant message, twitter etc. Enterpreneurs with a good supply of cash or investors should set up a dedicated line, skype ID, BB pin no etc and let people know that their phones would be credited with probably N100 for pictures sent, N300 for videos or any other appropriate price. Let them know that they should turn on the date function of their phones and relevant inscription that would be of value to truly achieving a free and fair election. I personally would also be happy to run with this idea as I think there's money to be made.

On a more serious note, these politicians want nothing more than to maintain status quo and so are not prepared to give nigerians a free and fair election. We need to strategise if we are to realise this.

I'm waiting to hear some results this morning and first the guy on Kaakaki (Oloyede Oworu) gives some lame excuse of not wanting to announce results until they are certain. Well now, I read that the results are to about to be released and the hopeless AIT deem it fit to show some useless Gombe gov aspirant - Dankwanbo.

This is very irritating and frustrating. I'm obviously never going to subscribe to them ever again. There r hundreds of channels on sky n d only reason one subscribes to AIT to get some naijanews albeit adulerated, watered down, biased or whatever but some information for crying out LOUD.

ACN Raises Alarm Over Plan To Impeach Gov. Aregbesola

Posted By On December 29, 2010 @ 3:12 pm

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said the plan to impeach Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State is real, contrary to the tepid denial by some of those involved, but warned that such plan would precipitate a crisis of epic proportions, the end of which no one can predict.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Iyiola Omisore, is the linchpin of the impeachment plot, which he sees as his only avenue to the governorship of the state.

It said Omisore is alleged to be working in collusion with a principal officer of the Senate, with whom he had been involved in a number of alleged unsavoury deals – the same reason Omisore is seeking the governorship by hook or crook so the accompanying immunity can shield him from the law.

ACN said the three-pronged plan involves suspending two ACN members of the Osun House of Assembly, so that the PDP-dominated house can have the required two-thirds majority to carry out the impeachment; massive bribery of the lawmakers from a huge war chest which the principal officer helped to raise, and compromising the security agencies and the judiciary.

“But we have every reason to believe that the legislators in Osun State are peace-loving people, who will resist any attempt by anyone, no matter how highly placed or what dirty carrot he is dangling, to destabilise a state that is just emerging from years of misrule by an illegitimate government. We also expect that the security agencies and the judiciary will resist any cheap attempt to compromise them.

‘‘However, for those who will allow themselves to be used to set Osun State back and return the good people of the state to the era of bondage, we have a warning for them: Don’t try it, because it will end up consuming you!’’ the party said.

It said the recent unprovoked, mindless and ill-informed excoriation of the judiciary by Omisore, over the widely-acclaimed judgement of the Court of Appeal that gave victory to Governor Aregbesola, was aimed at preparing the basis for the Senator to push on with his impeachment plan.

‘‘Afterall, he must have reasoned, if Aregbesola can get to the exalted seat through the courts, he too can use impeachment to attain his pipe dream. There is a difference between the two: One is legitimate, the other is illegal!

‘‘But beyond that, the people of Osun are not ready to succumb to the antics of a shady character, whose only claim to the state’s governorship is to realise his inordinate ambition and also seek the protective cover of immunity, if only to escape the sure repercussions of his past misdeeds. Osun people do not want the bloodbath that this linchpin is threatening. They do not want the chaos and violence that he has deployed to telling effect in the past. Osun people want peace and progress, which an Aregbesola governorship is already delivering to the state,’’ ACN said.

The party said it sympathises with anyone who is not satisfied with the Court of Appeal ruling on the Osun governorship election, since the court is the last stop as far as governorship election petitions are concerned.

‘‘The Court of Appeal judgement on Osun is not final because it is infallible, it is rather infallible because it is final. We hope this makes some sense to the anarchists and ill-informed commentators on the judgement,’’ it said.

Dear Sir & Madam,

Listening to the NTA news on Monday 06/12/2010, Mrs Az Zubair on her monitoring and evaluation tour to Gombe state mentioned that the state had so far accessed 40 billion naira funds required for achieving the Millennium development goals (mdgs). However, to my shock and horror, I noticed that there were some hairdryers, generators and some other things that got me wondering how these could be justification for N40 billion naira. My initial reaction was to see this entire TV expose as a jamboree but then I thought NO! Jumping into conclusion would be unfair and so I am offering an opportunity for Gov Danjuma Goje and Mrs AZ Zubair to explain how such colossal amount of funds have helped inch the state towards achieving the mdgs.

Before I came about writing this, I did some research from your website Madam Zubair into some of the mdgs and the progress Gombe state has made so far. Without meaning to persecute Gov Goje, I find it difficult to understand how the things I saw on TV translated to improving your already low position. Here are some of the MDGS and the position of Gombe state as at 2009.

MDG 2 - Achieve universal primary education

Please Sir Goje and Madam AZ Zubair, give us some statistiscal information or any other explicable data that depicts the targets achieved on any of the MDGs in Gombe state.

@labiyemmy:
Is this not the same rail line that had served the purpose for years?

If it is a new one - why didnt the engineer make provision for natural issues like rain water?

What exactly is the point here?

Why do these newspapers always carry reports and quotes someone without a name? and is it today that flooding has been the bane in Lagos during too much rain? Or just another opportunity to criticise the railway project as usual?

Even too much flood disrupts rail system in the UK - what's new brother?
Pls do not encourage shoddy engineering work. As a railway engineer with 14 years experience, I can tell you that the drainage system comes well before laying the tracks. There should have been catchpits and drain channels built to direct water.
Whereas it is impossible to stop the rains, it is very possible to direct rain away from the track.
