Hello everyone! Please I need advice. I'm 25 (will turn 26 this year) and I'm currently serving at the Federal University Lokoja medical school. The Human Anatomy department there. I graduated with a BSc Human Anatomy, 2.1 (4.25 GPA) from University of Port Harcourt. IBefore, I would always say I didn't want to go back to MBBS because of the cost and I felt that time had passed for me, but a couple of things made me start considering it again.
1. When FUL was trying to get MDCN accreditation late last year and early this year, I noticed that only 2 of the lecturers on the anatomy staff list had a BSc in Human Anatomy. The rest were doctors. Some had a first degree in anatomy, while others were pure MBBS. When I asked one of the first degree anatomy holders, he explained that in a short while, non-MBBS degree holders would no longer be allowed to teach medical students, and coming into academia with an MBBS degree was much better than coming in with a BSc. I realised that even if I have a PhD in Anatomy, perhaps a time would come where a doctor without a PhD would be preferred to lecture medical students than me. I really did not mind becoming a lecturer though, but now I'm not so sure with my anatomy degree.
2. Someone asked me today what my plans would be after I'm done serving (I finish in May), and I genuinely did not know what to say. The truth is, I would say I'd go for an MSc or something (I was considering doing something with neuroscience), but I'm starting to feel like I'm delaying the inevitable. Unemployment or underemployment and stuff. I remember my doctor uncle telling me that the 5, 6, 7 years I did not want to spend to go back to school after my anatomy degree, would still be spent on the unemployment line, and his words were scary.

I think I'm going to apply for direct entry to MBBS this year. After all, I wouldn't know unless I try and it's better I do something than sit around worrying right?

Please I need advice on the best university to apply to where I would actually stand a chance of getting in on my first try.

I considered Rivers State University since the school is in my village and they'd definitely have an indigene quota, but the school fees even for indigenes is too much for me to pay. My parents are near retirement and I don't want to put this extra burden on them after they paid for the first degree. Yes, all my siblings are done with school with the last one in final year, but I would feel guilty if I put another degree cost on them. I'd like to fund this one myself or at least get a scholarship for it.
I considered going back to Uniport where I got my anatomy degree as I heard that schools normally consider their graduates for MBBS admissions, but I also heard Uniport would give more preference to their JUPEB graduates from Ashgroove than DE so there's a massive chance I may not get in. Like the quota for DE is normally shared with JUPEB guys, and more would come from JUPEB since they pay so much money for their program. I considered Unical too because I saw they accept a 2.2 in anatomy for direct entry, and so it might be easier to get in with my 2.1. Someone was also suggesting I try Unilorin, which might be cool although I don't know whether I actually stand a chance, or FUL where I'm serving (but since the medical school just started, I'm a bit skeptical about applying, and I don't think I'd like to school there considering that I served there).

Is there any other school I should consider with my grade which would not be so expensive, and maybe a bit closer to my family in Port Harcourt? Although I really wouldn't mind going far if the chances of me getting there would be high. Also, would the calendar of the school be fast enough? I know RSU has a very fast calendar and they don't go on ASUU strikes.

Please give me your advice. I'd really appreciate you. Thank you!
Your best bet is Rivers State Uni or Uniport since you are from there.

I will advice u get in contact with medical students from either schools especially the direct entry students to make further research, try to know the number they admit and how they admit. ( U can also add Unical, UNN to your research, I dont think u stand a good chance in Unilorin)

I will also advice u learn a skill that should be able to help u with expenses (ur writing skill should also help u get gigs). Plus there are scholarships too or Nelfund.

Finally your age should not be a stopping factor.

Hello everyone

I just applied for medicine through direct entry. But I don't really know what to study for the aptitude test which they said will start this year.
I really need tips on what to expect.

Then, are we going to write screening with other JAMB applicants?

How can I get the textbooks here in Nsukka?
I really have plenty questions...
U don't write exam for direct entry. Only post DE/screening exam and it depends on the school u applied to.

Other schools own isn't as bad as UNN. In fact some schools don't admit up to their quota. I'm sure UI & OAU don't. If at all they'll, it'll only be by 10 not hundreds.
No one will expect UNN to do do such when it's not a state university. It should be at par with other 1st generation schs in admission
U clearly have ur own bias against the school but good luck on ur Med School application. I hope u get in.

I agree the admission is merit based. I'm just talking about the many lists released after the primary admission list that you and I know isn't merit based and is usually more than the merit names. That's why admitted students do reach 500
Other schools do the same thing, they have primary list and supplementary lists. The 500 admission like u said was once in 2019. I don't think that has been repeated again.

I repeat UNN med sch is not close to UI & OAU with facts/reasons but you're here playing the normal cards we're used to in Nigeria.
Mind you I sch at UNN, Medicine and I'm not even from South West. I'm from South South & I hear feedback from my friends in those 2 schools.
So, you can't corner me with those games.
They are on par with each other. They are federal schools which are under funded. It is the government that needs to do better but in terms of the school in general. UNN medical school is doing ok and not as bad u paint it to be.

You no know wetin God do for you. Here in UNN, it's overcrowded because of too many illegal admission. Heard na JAMB make the thing reduce small for competitive courses like medicine, nursing, dentistry & pharmacy.
There was a year (2019 UTME I think) when JAMB rejected names & move some people who bought admissions into those courses to other departments. If not, I don't think that sch is ready to stop the illegal act.
Sometimes I wonder what's motivating them to admit 500 for quota of 180 (medicine) or 120 for quota of 15 (dentistry) etc.
Na why you fit see person with 200 in JAMB doing Medicine there. If they tell me say 180 in JAMB dey study medicine for UNN, I no go doubt am because that sch is too corrupt. It literally act after its name Uni of NIGERIA.
Very fantastically corrupt sch like NIGERIA.
And person go still get mind dey compare that kind sch with OAU. If you no get body, you no fit put am for OAU. Most UNN students sef have tried the likes of UI, OAU but couldn't get it due to the mad competition before resulting to go back home & study at UNN.
Just get money , you go enter UNN to study any course
Who told u the quota for UNN dentistry is 15? I don't know where u got ur statistics that is telling u that most people who are in UNN applied to UI, OAU before getting admission. If merit the admission, u would be given.

Like secondary school testimonial? I don't think first school leaving certificate is that important. If u have the secondary school own, u can post it.

Good afternoon house. I'm quite new here and I really need your help and advice.

Last year I applied for MBBS through DE to UNIBEN and I got admitted but lost the admission as I couldn't clear. I later found out that for DE, UNIBEN doesn't allow o'levels that postdates the 1st degree matriculation.
This is the reason I couldn't clear, as my 1st degree was gotten on two sittings— which they don't accept— and my new o'level (single sitting) was gotten after the 1st degree.

Is there any school whose requirements for DE accommodates double or single sitting regardless of when it was gotten, as I'd like to register for DE again??

My 1st degree is in Biochemistry, 2.1 from UNIBEN

Thanks, in anticipation of your responses.
Try UNN or state uni

Hello, so I am a student currently in Human Anatomy, I want to switch to any of these departments, Physiotherapy, public health, Genetics and biotechnology. Which of these departments do think is more lucrative and has more prospects?

I need your advice urgently and any opinion will be appreciated.
physiotherapy is the best option, it has a lot prospects and opportunities. Also u can study the remaining courses in post grad (masters).

Pertaining to U.N.N and it's mega shambolic management, I think the take away is that whilst choosing a medical school, nominal glory based on antiquity shouldn't be on the top of your list on "the reason to choose X school", more especially medicine which harbors fervent competition for admission into those sort of schools.

Also, when going for interviews as a medical graduate you won't be asked " which medical school did you attend?" Instead its more like " where did you train?".
The real deal is on the teaching hospital and the knowledge you acquired.

I mean I as a patient won't care about whether you are a U.N.N graduate or an ABSU graduate, but can you do your job "efficiently"?
.
How will u go for an interview and they wont ask where u studied? ur credentials and cv would be requested from u. Schools u attend sometimes play a favor for u but one should not kill oneself on this. Because it is still the same education that u would receive at other schools and even at that it is you that would be treating the patients. if federal schools are not working, pls try other schools.

I think this is the only way to go.
Let the Universities fund themselves, just like the private Universities and you will never hear or witnessed anything like ASUU strike again, in fact ASUU will vanish completely.
The fee is still too low though!
honestly i agree with you, we should try a public-private partnership for federal universities because this strike of a thing is obviously not working.... At d end of the strike, the students suffer not d gov or ASUU.

I understand..my score is okay for MBBS but the problem is,I didn't pick UNILORIN with UME(skeptical of the admission process).I was told to change but I'm scared it won't reflect on time as the deadline for post UTME reg falls on Aug 31st
If u are nt sure of unilorin leave it at UI... U have not written d exam yet so we dont really know d outcome... Plus i believe u have a greater chance of admission thru utme when compared to DE.

not yet man...exams would commence on the 7th of next month
If u scored very high in jamb, i would advise u leave it and not u can convert it. Unilorin will only consider those that chose her as first choice in Jamb DE. U wont even be allowed to buy d post utme form if u chose her as second choice.
