Op get on GitHub and stack overflow take projects and Start to build them. Master one CMS like WordPress or Squarespace. Sign up on Upwork, use 50000 naira and buy connects (this is an investment and start bidding for jobs). Don't go the high end jobs start with the smaller ones. Get this jobs and do well at them and build your Upwork profile and later on you can start applying for full time remote jobs. Don't waste your time with any Nigerian company.

I joined Upwork as a digital marketer my first job was 200 dollars. That contract just ended and me and the client are renegotiating 500 dollars per month now. So far I have sent out like 60 proposals and I have three pending interviews. Like you, I started learning programming as I believe digital marketing isn't a safe skill to have. Anyone with common sense and an internet connection can easily know it but you can't say so for programming.

At your level, you should be able to build responsive websites. Go in and start with that and continue improving your skills.

You didn't mention if you are still in school or have finished. Whichever it is, you should try to care less about what people think and focus on developing yourself.

IT services are some of the most sought-after services in the world today. The good thing about computer technology is that it has no known alternative. Yes, you read that right. This means that the number of people who have the skill doesn't matter.

As a tech writer with a degree in Information Technology, I can authoritatively tell you that breaking into the computer networking circus is difficult because companies always ask for experience and certification (CCNA, CCNP, etc).

The best bet is to learn software and app development or web programming. While it will take you some time to become a guru, they have much better long-term benefits. I know a software developer who works in a company in Lagos and his salary #750k. Guess what, he's not even up to 30 years. There are several others who earn millions of Naira in one month.

A computer scientist has no business sewing clothes. You just need to hone your IT skill and enjoy later. Again, try web programming...you can start as full stack or WordPress developer, and progress to PHP later. Don't consider database management (Oracle) because it's the same as networking (CCNA). They are always difficult to break into.

Try to make ur parents understand that what you are earning isn't enough, otherwise, you might end up just increasing ur expenses by paying bills for ur own apartment & their own as well.


My advice, start a business, do not move out unless absolutely necessary. I also stay with my parents, I just do what I can afford with a smile & say No to what I can't with a smile. In fact I enjoy spending on my parents & siblings. Anyways in my own case na miscellaneous spendings, since I don't even pay for electricity or food despite d large apartment way I corner in d eastate


P.S forget about those "grown man privacy" advocates, they just want excuse to fork & fornicate, which obviously their parents will never allow.
