WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FASTING 1. When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of paradise are opened, the gates of hell are closed and the devils are chained. (Al-Bukhari 1898, Muslim 1079) 2. Every Muslim must make intention before fajr to fast(for an obligatory fast). Intention is not uttered. It is determination in the mind and should not be done with audible wordings. (Al Bukhari 1, Abu Dawood 2454) 3. Fasting is NOT just abstaining from eating and drinking, it is also refraining from vain speech and foul language. If one is verbally abused, he should say 'I am fasting' (Muslim 1151) 4. Taking the pre-dawn meal (Sahuur) is a BLESSING. Every Muslim is expected to take the meal EVEN if with a mouthful of water. (Al Bukhari 1923, Ahmad 44) 5. It is the Sunnah to DELAY the Sahuur and HASTEN to break the fast as soon as the sun sets. (Al Bukhari 1921, Muslim 1099) 6. If one hears the call to prayer WHILE still eating the Sahuur, he should not stop eating, rather he should finish his food. (Abu Dawud 2350) 7. Whosoever does not give up speaking falsely and acting on lies and evil actions, Allaah does not care for his abstaining from eating and drinking. (Al Bukhari 1903) 8. The Messenger of Allah used to break his fast BEFORE magrib prayer with 3 fresh dates, if there were no fresh dates, he would eat 3 dry dates, if there were no dry dates, he would take 3 draughts of water. (Abu Dawud 2349) 9. Whoever provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, he will earn the same reward as the person without the person's reward being reduced. (At-tirmidhi 807) 10. It is PERMISSIBLE for a fasting person to bath or pour over his head to relief him of the hotness of the sun or of thirst. (Abu dawud 2365) 11. If somebody eats or drinks FORGETFULLY while fasting, he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk been given to him by Allaah. (Al Bukhari 1933, Muslim 1155) 12. Zakaatul fitr is OBLIGATORY on every muslim, old & young, slave & free, male & female. One Sa'a (approx. 3kg) of food items should be given out before people go out for the 'Eid prayer. (Al Bukhari 579/2, Muslim 2159) 13. The Messenger of Allaah never proceeded(for prayer) on the day of 'Eid ul fitr unless he had eaten some odd number of dates. (Al Bukhari 73/2) 14. We should put on our BEST garments and chant Adhkaar TO & FRO the Eid ground. (Al Bukhari 88,89,102/2) 15. On the day of Eid, the Messenger of Allaah used to return (after offering the Eid prayer) through a way DIFFERENT from that by which he went. (Al Bukhari 102/2) 16. Whoever observes fast in Ramadan and also fasts for six days in Shawwal, the reward of a whole year fast is recorded for him. (Muslim 2614/6)[img]WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FASTING 1. 1. Sincere repentance Repentance is demanded to be performed continuously, at any time. But it would be better for you with the approach of the blessed month to hurry up with repentance for all the sins you committed against Allah, and also against His creations. So with the advent of the Blessed Ramadan, you could proceed to the commission of worship with pure and quiet heart. Almighty Allah says in the Quran: "And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed". Al-Agharr ibn Yasar al-Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said: "O people! Turn in repentance towards Allah and ask His forgiveness. I turn towards Him a hundred times a day". 2. Dua (supplication) It is reported from some of the righteous predecessors that they used to ask Allah for the six months to extend their lives to see Ramadan in good health. Then, they used to ask Allah for five months after Ramadan to accept their good deeds committed in it. Therefore, you, by following their example, pray Allah that He gives you an opportunity to celebrate Ramadan in good health and with a strong faith, and ask Him for the help in worshiping Him, and for acceptance of good deeds. 3. Joy in light of the coming of the Holy month of Ramadan The approach of this blessed month is a great boon for every believer after all, because this month is a period of blessing. It is a month when the gates of Paradise are open and the gates of Hell are closed. It is a month when the Holy Quran was sent down. Allah said: "Say, In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate". 4. Replenishment of the left obligatory fastings It is reported from Abu Salama, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: "I heard Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, as saying: "Sometimes I missed some days of Ramadan, but could not fast instead of them except in the month of Shaban"." Ibn Hajar, may Allah bless him with mercy, said: "It can be drawn from the desire of Aisha to make up the missed days of Ramadan in the month of Shaban that any missed fasts to make up have to be made up before the next Ramadan comes". 5. Acquisition of knowledge related to the dignity of the month of Ramadan, and with certain provisions of the fast. 6. The coming completion of all deeds that can distract you from worship in the month of Ramadan. 7. Explanation to the household, relatives and friends of the basic provisions of the fast. Motivation to " little ones" to participate in the fast, so that they could become accustomed to the basic kinds of worship in Islam from their childhood. 8. Fasting in the month of Shaban, in order to prepare for the month of Ramadan. It is reported in an authentic hadith from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: "Sometimes the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, fasted so much that he even thought he did not break his fast in that month, and sometimes he broke his fast so much that we would say he did not fast. I did not see the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) fast in the whole month except Ramadan. I never saw him fast in any month more than he did in Shaban". It is also reported from Osama Bin Zeid, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: "O Messenger of Allah! I did not see you fasting in any month as you do in the month of Shaban". The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said: "People neglect this month which is between Rajab and Ramadan, in this month the deeds of the people are presented to Allah; so I like my deeds to be presented while I am fasting". This hadith explains the wisdom of fasting in the month of Shaban, namely the fact that deeds or actions are presented to Allah. Also, some scholars have pointed out other wisdom of the fasting in the month of Shaban, which lies in the fact that this fasting is like a sunna-prayer committed before the obligatory farz-prayer. Thus, a man prepares himself, a sort of warm-up before the fulfillment of the obligatory form of worship. 9. Reading the Quran Salamah Ibn Suhayl, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say: "The month of Shaban is the month of reciters of the Quran". When Shaban came, Amr Ibn Qays al-Malai, may Allah be pleased with him, used to close his store and devote his time to reading the Quran. Now, having said all this, let's look at our situation, and answer ourselves, being honest, how we prepare for this blessed month, and how we are going to meet it? We ask Almighty Allah for help and assistance in preparing for the fasting, and for a worthy meeting of the Holy month of Ramadan! frank but that is not acceptable in our religion (Islam) Thanks |
wahayyaka ya akhi |
We thank Allaah the Mighty Lord Who has facilitated the effort from its inception till where we have got to. We have tried our best to demolish the foundations of Da'wah Jabtawiyyah - which borrows clues from the international Hadaadiyyah - in South West Nigeria. Our aim has been to clarify the truth, and of course, to save the Muslim masses from the corruption of the Jabtawis. We recognise our limits as students of knowledge thus we ask Allaah the Ever-Forgiving Lord to pardon us wherever we have erred. Our wish is that the Jabtawis will come back to the correct manhaj of the Salaf and stop going about making Takfeer of the Muslims upon the false ideology that every act of bid'ah is a major kufr that takes one out of the Deen, among other faslse teachings of theirs. We also implore them to go back to the correct learning of the Deen by not limiting themselves to one personality. We make a promise that if their teacher, Jabata, can recant from his false teachings, we shall remove all what we have written against him. Lastly, we thank all the brothers who have stood firmly with us as we made these clarifictions, we ask Allah that He should crown all our efforts with success. We like to say that we shall consider the request that we should turn the effort to a book. But we think we should give the Jabtawis some respite perhaps they will all turn better. It is only Allaah that guides therefore we ask Him to guide us, them and the rest of the Ummah. Wa sallam alaykum wa rahmatullah wa baarakatuhu. |
Praise be to Allaah. One of the conditions which must be met before starting to pray is to make sure that one's body and clothes and the place in which the Muslim is going to pray are all clean and free of impurities. It was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that he used to pray wearing his shoes. Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) was asked, “Did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) pray wearing shoes?” He said, “Yes.” (al-Bukhaari, 386; Muslim, 555). This is to be understood as meaning, so long as there is no impurity on the shoes; if there is any impurity on them then it is not permissible to pray in them. If a person forgets and prays wearing shoes when there is some impurity on them, then he has to take them off when he finds out or remembers. This is because of the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri who said: “While the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was leading his companions in prayer, he took off his shoes and placed them to his left. When the people saw that, they took off their shoes too. When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) finished his prayer, he asked, ‘What made you take off your shoes?’ They said, ‘We saw you take off your shoes, so we took ours off too.’ The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me and told me that there was something dirty on them.’ When any one of you comes to the mosque, let him look and if he sees anything dirty on his shoes, let him wipe them and then pray in them.” (Abu Dawood, 650; classed as saheeh by al- Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 605). One of the reasons why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed wearing shoes is to be found in the hadeeth, “Be different from the Jews, who do not pray in their shoes or in their leather slippers (khufoof ).” (Abu Dawood, 652; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 607). That is regarded as mustahabb for the purpose of differing from non-Muslims, as stated above. This has to do with the kind of shoes and with the mosque at that time. However if the mosque is furnished with carpeting, then the mosque should be kept clean of shoes, and no one should enter wearing shoes lest the place be made dirty. (Fataawa Samaahat al-Shaykh ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Humayd , p. 81). Moreover the furnishings of the mosque are a waqf which should not be damaged or destroyed, and if dirt gets onto the carpets it will offend those who pray and prostrate on them. Hence no one should enter wearing shoes and walk on the carpets in the mosque in shoes, lest he damage them or make them dirty. The one who is keen to follow this Sunnah can apply it when praying at home, or when praying in places where there are no furnishings or carpets, such as parks, beaches and out of doors, etc. If this action confuses some of those who are unaware of the Sunnah, he should explain to them that it is Sunnah before he does it, so that they will not find that odd. We ask Allaah to make us among those who adhere to the Sunnah and strive to follow it until He joins us with the author of the Sunnah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) close to the Lord of the Worlds. And Allaah is the Source of strength. Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid |
