To all the Murano lovers and users,
Much has been said and is still being discussed about the Murano CVT gear/transmission issues.

I have investigated this issue for months and months now because I own a 2003 Murano(the most problematic) and cannot just let go of the car,

Points to Note:

1. Nissan did not order a recall of the Murano simply because its not the gear that is faulty, its the maintenance procedure that wasn't clearly communicated to buyers.

2. NEVER  ever pour ATF fluid into your Murano transmission. ONLY Nissan CVT NS-2 is certified for use. (You can get it at Ladipo at 20k a gallon).

3. Your CVT fluid needs to flushed and changed after  maximum of 40,000miles. You need to drain it for hours to let the dirt/fluid come out fully. I would advise that after flushing, you use about 1-2litres to clean the remnant dirt in the transmission and flush that out too before filling the transmission up with new fluid. The transmission takes about 6-7litres of CVT fluid, so you will have to buy 2 gallons.

3. Once you have any of the following symptoms, you CVT transmission fluid needs to be flushed out and changed totally.
     a. Sluggishness when moving from standstill, as if the fuel pump is faulty.
     b. Noise/Wheezing sound when trying to accelerate
     c. Slight smell of burning fluid when accelerating
     d. Unexpected change in gear/engine sound when accelerating
     e. Your CVT transmission starts changing gears like a normal auto transmission (You start noticing the gear change).

If you have a Murano with any of the above symptoms, please dont dump it yet, give the solution a try.

I no longer have issues with my transmission, and I have resolved to flush the gear oil at least every 3-4months. Expensive, but for me its worth it.

The Nissan workshop is at Karimu Kotun, not Adeola Odeku. I didnt mean Alliance Motors, there is another good place at Karimu Kotun.
You can get the CVT Fluid at the Nissan workshop for about 34,000 naira(4litres).

I own and drive a Murano and my experience so far is that many Lagos mechanics dont know the difference between CVT and ATF.
The CVT of the Murano requires frequent checks and top ups (like once in 4months) with the right CVT gear fluid, last time I was at a mechanic workshop, they nearly poured ATF fluid into my gear, I was only lucky to be around. They were suprised when I told them it used CVT not ATF and claimed I wouldnt be able to get the CVT fluid anywhere. Like they said, the CVT fluid is only available in very very few places,
I have a couple of friends who use the Murano and what I have noticed is that all those who service their cars at the Nissan workshop have never ever had any complaints about the performance of their vehicles.

Get the Camry, and make sure the one you get is in good condition. The Elantra will not be able to bear the burden you want to put on it, and no matter what people say, it is less safer on those routes you want to ply. Like someone said, borrow the 2 cars and take them on separate trips on the same route, then you will understand. No need for people's opinion on this, just do the litmus test yourself.

You cant go wrong with Eneos Transmission Fluid.
And Alliance Autos is a good option for service of the car, they should also change the CVT fluid for you, dont do it yourself

Just to clear the air on Muranos,
I am a Murano user and I own the 2003 model which people say is the most problematic. The truth is the gear is sensitive because its CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), not auto transmission. A lot of people make the mistake of putting in normal auto transmission fluid into the car which messes it up.
It also requires proper professional servicing, not through roadside mechanics.
Asides from that, I can tell you there is no problem with the car. If the gentleman here is selling this one and its in good condition, I would advise whoever has half interest to grab it fast.
I have been using mine since and intend to buy the new model whenever I can afford it.
