The long game is also a risk these days.. and can wreck you financially.. i ve had a personal scenario very close to me..
My uncle that introduced me to politics was contesting for Chairman position under PDP around 2007, we ve printed posters, did community projects, pay waecs, even set up an NGO and lobbied all party leaders.. a week to primary, realignment occur and the ticket went to another big man in the community. we jumped to AC which was not even existing in our ward then because PDP was the major party then.
Believing in our already done homework, we gather crowd and started AC in our word, targeting the 2011 election, also follow to ACN when the party merge, we decide to go for HOA then coz the sitting governor was PDP and there is no way you can win LG chairman in another party, to cut the story short, after building the party to a certain magnitude, influential and wealthy people joined and took over the structure.. they outspent us till my uncle became frustrated and crossed to ADC in like 2018 after losing party ticket twice under ACN and APC..
It was a very sad experience

In politics, except you are one of the elites connection, family, friend, winning major political primary is reserved.

If you sincerely spend N20m to the constituency you want to represent, the next election, those who also sincerely benefits from it would be the one leading your campaign

The money you would have wasted in buying the party ticket for big party ( Which is not even certain of winning), use the money to do something for the constituency you will be representing. Even if you loose, you already laid some foundations for future chances
