Looks like someone fronting for some of those that embezzled Nigeria’s wealth years ago and now returning the wealth back.

Or how do we explain the source?

Well, only God knows best.

The masses of Nigeria will be released from all these bondages of poverty on day like the children of Israel following Moses.

corrall: Ok...

Hmmm, which one do you think is better, that will not give her gas?
If your pediatrician confirms your baby is lactose intolerant, then he should recommend a lactose free formula because breasttmilk also contain lactose.I know Nestle has a NAN lactose free infant formula.

Others like NAN1,FRisogold1,SMA gold,Lactogen,Cowbell infant formula contains Lactose.

Some of the symptyoms for Lactose Intolerance include diarrhea, bloating or gas about 30 minutes or more after breasttfeeding.

Lactose intolerance is quite different from Milk Allergy.

When you notice running nose, dry, itchy rash and slight swelling of the face(esp. lips)after breasttfeeding or formula feeding, those are signs your baby is allergic to one of the milk proteins.

I remember a case where the mother used infant formula and didn't tell us the baby also reacted to her breasttmilk, after changing formula with no result she confessed and we placed her on a special formula from Isomil/similac.She was glad!

meerkat: same here, my 11weeks baby on sma gold+breastmilk has been gasing seriously. does it mean her system does not accept the sma gold
Was she gasing seriously while on exclusive breasttfeeding? When did you start noticing it? Please prompt response.

Happy New Year everyone!

I have been very busy with preparation for this Year PANCOF (20th -26th January 2013) in Enugu.

Wish you all a productive year.

imurboss: Helloo mummies, pls what food can i introduce now to my 6mths old baby oo,i'm tired!can i give her golden morn now,any suggestion? Thanks.
Have you tried any Infant cereals? If not,try start with Rice based and later with wheat or maize based (when introducing wheat for the first time watch out if there are no allergic reaction).Make it a bit watery if your baby has been exclusively breasttfed for the first 6months.Varieties are Friso,Cerelac....

You said you are tired?like you have tried a whole lot?share your experience,Goldenmorn in NO NO as advised by Julesbloom.

sugar 001: Meal time is getting annoying and frustrating as my LO seems to be a picky eater. He is 9months and not looking healthy. Are they mothers here that would advice the use of force @ feeding.
No No,you need patience.Do you know temperature of the food might even make a baby reject food?funny?Babies can't talk but reacts.Do you also know that the kind of plate and spoon can make a baby look forward to meal time?funny too? Kindly follow the advice given by Julesboom.

On a second thought,is it a case of low appetite or being picky? These are 2 different things.
Please provide ample information to get more information.
Cheers!

You welcome! @hannydarl,will give you more than enough recipes. grin

I think you should be applauded for EBF for 6months,however,I advice when you start complimentary feeding let your baby still enjoy the benefit of breasttmilk for as long as you can.

Yes you can ma.

How old is your baby and why do you give her vitamin C?
HealthRe: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by helixmanager:
hannydarl: Are you still at home? Take your baby to see a doctor. A pedeatrician if you can help it.
Though its okay and expected for an infant to poop as soon as food enters their mouths( most times small poop with large explosive farts making you believe that the daiper must be full). Its a reflex from their brains to make space for new meals. With time their bodies will get back to "normal" the doctor will want to know the structure and content of the poop. So, take baby to the doctor.
You are my chief.

@shiles maybe u r feeding ur baby with the foremilk only. try feeding ur baby with one bosom at a time i.e. let him/her drain one bosom during one feeding. the next feeding give the baby the second bosom. the milk that comes out first is light, that is the foremilk and the thicker milk comes later; the hindmilk that is where the fat is. i used to have this problem untill i googled it out. though i was told green stool is normal, i was very woried then i searched online. now i let my baby finish a bosom during a feeding (we were also told this at the Health center). the next feeding u offer the other bosom.since i started this method, her stool has been a normal colour. pls try it.
On point.

The consistency changes with time.

shilees: Please can anyone assist,or Advice on what I can do cos am really getting scared,My baby's pooh is greenish & watery, it'S two dAyS noW.he Actually pooh immediately he finish sucking. he's 2months & 2weeks,he's on bosom milk only.
Permit me to add that the quality of your breastt milk is a function of what you eat. Let your diet be balanced, drink plenty of water and moderate fruits and vegetable.Apple is nice.

Do you give water after breasttfeeding session?

Do you express milk for your baby?

Do you see mucus like in the stool? If your answer is Yes,I suspect contamination / Diarrhea which is rare when you do exclusive BF.

Continue breasttfeeding if your answer is No,it will normalise with time. The greenish colouration is as a result of Bile secretion and a reaction to your diet.I guess your problem is equal to zero.

I appreciate mothers who take note of everything about their babies. However,if you still feel uncomfortable see your pediatrician.

I try as much as possible to be straight and simple, why should I talk about allergies and reactions when I dont see the need to?

You pretend to be a health industry professional. You better make sure you know what you are talking about, because right now you have no clue. Absolutely no clue. I don't know what university you attended (if any!!!), and I don't care if it was an African, American or European University, but I would love you to tell me at what price did you buy your diploma, I would like to buy one for my 5 years old son too.

To others, as a health professional with over 28 years in Paediatrics, I can only advice you to listen, but to also think for yourself and ALWAYS seek a second opinion from a qualified nutritionist or a paediatrician. You should be able to get a list of such professionals from your doctor. If your doctor refuses, then it is the time to change your doctor.

For those having resources and need to learn more, I recommend this web site:

Thanks for the site you suggested, however, your 28yrs experience is required here.

Make your submission and also let the house know in clear terms why you think I am an impostor, just to convince all you are not typing from Yaba Left.

In one of my posts I stated that this forum doesnt replace the hospital but a place where where mothers can get first hand information. So take your advice home as large percentage of mothers here are educated.

hannydarl: Abeg go and sit down at that corner. Are you chasing the poster of the year title here? See you are not the only one that knows it all and you are not the only educated person here. I have posted proof. You are just an ITK person. I never said what my baby eats is best. I never said all babies eat one thing. You have been hammering those points. That your kids and all generations from you will trive on peak 123 grow does not mean other babies can't react to it. Go and sit and think how easy life is when you investigate before posting. I will leave this tread for you. So you can be the mesaiah you want to be. Oya take over mr I am the only health officer in the world.
If you say that milk is adult milk, then it shows clearly that you know nothing. when last did you go to the market? Go buy the milk and see if all those additives you mentioned are different from the ones in infant milk.
MR ITK. All the time I see "wise ones" like you talk about feeding infants, you never for once cautioned about allergy and reactions. abeg don't get me started there o jare.
I am a nutritionist and I know that for the fact that my baby eats well balanced meals then ALL IS WELL with qualitative growth.Every child needs to eat a balanced diet yes! my child, your child and other's kids as long as they are not suffering from anything that elliminates certain diets from their food chart. Its high time you realize that health is not only in one field.

If you are so passionate about helping others then don't war with me. If you notice, mr itk, that a mother has the wrong idea then by all means don't just attack and go hide, no need for that. just call the persons attention and state reasons why you think or know what they are doing is wrong. There have beeen millions of cases where even doctors have been wrong. so my dear that school fees were paid and you attended lectures doesn't mean you know more thatn others ok?

Now I see no need to even talk to you again take the opportunity and do the only thing you know how to do most. Enjoy the kingship of this tread and be the go to guy you dream of becoming here.

NB she said her baby is 13mos old not weeks. And if the government made those food factories place the age range then what Nestle cautioned on their pack is still in line with what I recomended. If you were not blind you would have read where I said her baby MAY like it and I never said her baby must eat it cos mine does.
Oya go look for another point I posted to discredit since its your only job on earth. You were born to stalk me.
My dear,I see your point.

Once again,I am not trying to discredit you. Since you are a nutritionist I expect you to be open rather than taking things personal atleast we have dieticians in our team during ward rounds.

I should have acknowledge some of your points or stated I learned some things from you but that wasn't my point.I picked some points that demand attention.

I am not disappearing as you think, just not privileged as you are to be on Nairaland for hours.

On this issue of Nido,If you had stated Nido 1+ (thats the name diff from the Normal Nido for Adult)that would have been fine.Take time to digest my comments before reacting aggressively.

However,a baby stools after taking Peak 123 doesnt mean the problem is from the product.Thats my point! So why the advice to change?Peak 123 and Nido 1+ are both milk and about same composition. Remember the mother that asked the question didnt say her baby doesnt like Peak 123.

At my level calling me ITK shows how unprofessional you are and leaving this forum because you seem to be challenged shows you are childish. If you have anything of benefit to share, pls do!Thats the essence of this forum.
HealthRe: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by helixmanager: 12:02pm On Dec 26, 2012
hannydarl: Stop quoting what you don't know just to discredit me. Go and buy a pack of that Nido and read the age bracket that they say.
Why should I discredit you?what will it profit me?I don't even have that time,my aim is to ensure mothers get the best info as far as I know based on my experience as a senior registrar in Pediatrics with keen interest in infant Nutrition.

Industries are being forced now to label as appropriate. There is Nido specifically made for children forget that stuff that a one year old can take adult milk and keep your pictures to yourself.

I have said it many times that for the fact that your baby eat a particular food doesn't mean all is well, especially qualitative growth.

There are times that I have to caution Nurses to stop harassing mothers in the hospital because its annoying to them when mothers come with more problems instead of following hospital guidelines. And when you ask the mothers, they tell you I read it somewhere, somebody said I should.......

I decided not to over flog the issue of bottle feeding when I realized its a waste of time.

When I have time,I will advice as appropriate on this forum. Its only people on field,I mean in the HCF will understand where I am coming from.

Igonih: My son use nido from 12 months. There are othe brands out there too. It is a matter of choice and what baby likes. The fact that many children take 123 does not mean all other babies must be okay with it.
There is a difference between not liking it and stooling.

I am not forcing anyone to take a particular brand but just trying to let mother have an open mind.

Your son used Nido from 12 months doesnt mean you took the right decision.

I have almost 8years experience in Pediatrics and I know what am saying.

bkodi: Hi everyone. I need help.My baby is 13months old and I've noticed that she stools a lot after taking peak 123 milk. Can I give her "adult" milk instead. pls advice!!!!!
Sorry,I have been very busy and also prep for my part 2.

What type of stool?very watery?how many times daily?when did you start noticing this?has your baby started eating family food?what cereals do you use?cos some cereals already contains milk and excess milk can irritate the GI

A lot of mothers use Peak 123 without problem,if your child stools after taking it,look out for how you prepare it,what you add, other meals,utensils....do a little elimination method.

However,if you insist or narrow it down to peak123 then Nido isn't an alternative. There is Nido made for babies within that age bracket, not the pics I see someone attach here (That's adult milk).

My Advice is that you don't use adult milk, your baby may take it well but we are concerned about constituents (one of which is the casein/whey ratio which may increase renal solute load) i.e over burden the kidneys. From 3 years, there are evidence that children tolerate adult milk.

If you can share how you prepare, what you feed your baby with and feeding times,I may be able to advice on necessary adjustment.

blank: My cousin's lactation consultant told her to continue breastfeeding while pregnant that it would ensure the first got the necessary immunities and will not affect the foetus. She did so and currently is breastfeeding the two at the same time. Her first is 1yr 2months and the 2nd is 2months old. They are both thriving well. The only thing is she had to eat healthy and watch her food intake cos she tended to get hungry easily.

Do what will suit your situation. My personal opinion is to do what feels right to you (actually, breastfeed for as long as you can, lol).
Thank you.

On the issue of bottle feeding, the only thing I hear bout it is negative reports, was specificaly told by my doctor not to bottlefeed,as it isn't healthy, and wen they start teething the teets, supposedly cause tooth decay,so I breastfed my kid exclusively for 3months and after that, gave him baby milk with a sterilized cup and plastic spoon, and he turned out ok

Oh and wen he was born,I didn't produce milk fast enuf,so he had to be spoonfed milk formular

Ifyemma: @hannydarl thanks alot, i learnt so many pls at what age do u wean ur kids and what method is d best. I have a 7months old baby and expecting(6wks) should i stop breastfeeding her.
Is your 7month baby solely on breasttmilk?

Do you mean the pregnancy is 6 weeks old or 6 weeks to delivery?

Do you have sores after breasttfeeding?

There are other personal questions(even psychological),I may need to ask which you may not be comfortable answering on this platform.

Do you stay in Abuja? If yes,I can recommend a lactation consultant in National Hospital if you are worried about it.

Its a 2 way thing,Yes or No depending on your response. There are cases where mothers successfully breasttfeed throughout pregnancy, some even tandem nurse/feed. So I advice you see your doctor.

tpia1: From wiki:

pitocin is used to induce labour because it makes the womb contract.

after labour, breastfeeding releases the hormone, which helps the womb go back to its pre-pregnancy state.
.

Yes,I see your point but consider the quote below;

Nipplle stimulation does trigger your body's production of the hormone oxytocin, which helps with milk letdown and also plays a role in the contractions you have during labor. Fortunately, the amount of oxytocin released isn't enough to stimulate labor under normal circumstances.-

hannydarl: You should promot hygine rather than discouraging the bottle. You can't feed a new born baby milk from a cup or with a spoon. For Ages parents have used the bottle and kids turned out just fine. Nowadays many parents could be careless and lazy granted but let us face facts. Not all mothers will breast feed from day one. Encourage hygine and cleaneliness . Take time out to teach mothers who bottle feed the dangers of not washing the bottles properly
The dangers of using prepared feed for more than 1hr if baby doesn't finish it.
The dangers of not washing the hands before touching babys food.
Just like breastfeeding campaings the government can help educate women who chOose to bottle feed even using expressed br-east milk(for working moms who express milk in bottles for baby when they are out to work) the importance of HYGINE when handling and preparing baby food.

Maybe I will post soon about that.
By the way I never said weanning was dependant on bottles go back to my post and see the other option I gave.
Milk is very important to a growing child if mom stops br-east feeding then she MUST look for a suitable alternative and cow's milk it is(except where baby has allergy to lactose) and the baby nEeds something to drink his milk from so if you have any advice post it here. I also am a learner for as long as I am ALIVE.
Say what you know and not what you think,ok?

Who says
You can't feed a new born baby milk from a cup or with a spoon
huh?? shocked shocked shocked

I have decided to keep mute on some of the experience you share here cos I appreciate your passion as a mother, however, you need to understand variation among babies and mothers.I just decided to point out the sensitivity of bottle feeding,if you are a health professional especially in Pediatrics or O&G you will understand better the challenges therein.

I am not here to compete but to ensure mothers get the best advice and once again, this forum doesn't replace the hospital. As HCPs there are information we can't share here, hence,we advice mothers visit the health care facilities.
HealthRe: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by helixmanager: 9:38am On Dec 14, 2012
You can surely wean now but it will depend on if your baby is used to feeding bottles
Please note that the use of feeding bottles should be discouraged and weaning is not dependent on that.

What you should do?

Enjoy your life with no worry. But ensure your child get adequate nutrition and sleep well.

When the teeth start coming,it will come stronger and prepare for teething.

Is your child male or female?Milk teeth tend to emerge sooner in females than in males.

By 10-12 months,see your pediatrician.

lullabi: hello All,
Please i desperately need your views on this. I have a 7 week old baby girl, i noticed that she had whitish dishcarge from her eyes and took her to the clinic, there the doc gave her some drugs--Ocefix 100mg/5ml 2.5ml, NISE Chlorpheniramine maleate syrup 2.5ml, and 3 tablets(hovid prednisolone or something. Am so worried that shes too tender to start taking drugs now. Am so so worried and scared.
You have taken the right step by visiting your doctor for direct examination and treatment. However,I am concerned about Chlorpheniramine maleate which is meant for pediatric patients 2 years and older.Cefixime should be administered for children above 6 months.Hmmmm.......

What age range was written (under Drug and administration)on the drug label?

However,I do not doubt the competence of your Doctor and also not in a position to determine the degree of the case.

Please can you check with another clinic?

sweettweet: Hi All,

has anyone used enfamil premium infant formula for baby?
someone introduce me to use for my baby(6mths+). The one the person wants to sell to me has 6packs in a carton. Inside each pack, there is a container for refill and there are 3 sachets in the pack.
The carton is sold for #15k, which means each pack is #2500. Each pack then has 3sachets which i translate to be approx #840.
I find it too cheap considering the prices of other similar infant formula.
I have already bought it but I want any1 with a similar xperience to share wt me.
Could I have bought a fake one?
I have not seen their company representative to educate us in the Hospital about the product. We see Nestle,Friso, and SMA regularly.

If there is any problem,we can also contact them.Remember Nestle made a recall of one batch of their product long time ago and we were carried along.

Hence, can't say if its modified for Nigerian babies or smuggled out of the US or its part of recalled product or fake.

Back to your question,I applaud you for using this medium to find out about what you bought but that's not enough. You need to go to reputable stores and do a comparative checks. Most times packaging and quantity may be the same as fake products but the label or security logo stands out, that's my experience with drugs adulteration.

Please while in doubt don't feed your baby with it until you have confirmed its not a fake product. Please check the expiry date too,if its 3months to expiry that may be reason for the low price.

I assume you want the best for your baby and that's why you went ahead to buy it however always consult your Pediatrician or Dietician for sensitive food like Infant formula.Remember babies cant talk!

Mothers! An average mother believes any thing that's expensive is the best,I call it price psychology.True sometimes but not in all cases.

While SMA costs 1,800 naira,Friso Gold1 cost 1,000 naira, they have similar composition and I have seen babies well nourished with Latter better than the Former but they are both great products.

Do have a productive day!

deybowlah: We have visited the pediatrician and he said my baby's weight is not too bad and I should continue with the wellkid. He also refereed us to the dietician.
The dietician's suggested I go back to feeding her cerelac, she said her milk intake is low and I should get her NAN2 and my bossom milk is not really of help to her at this stage(10months). I am rather not pleased with her suggestion. Does she mean formular is better than bossom milk? My baby is even refusing to
take the formula
Remember I said all may be well?Buh there is nothing like Breastt milk,it changes in composition according to the age of the infant however,it may not be enough as the only source of nutrients and quantity perhaps you are not lactating well enough.Always rehydrate your self (drink plenty water minutes before and after breastfeeding session).

My advice, your baby still need milk at that age and if you are not lactating enough, you can use infant formula as advised by your Dietician.

Health care providers are not allowed to mention d name of Infant formula of choice according to WHO code of ethics. You will be given names of good infant formulas in the market and you will be allowed to make your choice.I mentioned Friso infant formula because we are anonymous on Nairaland. If your baby tolerate NAN2 fine but I have great experience with Friso gold1 and I'm passionate about it.

NB. Yes,continue with your complementary feeding,Cerelac or Friso Gold rice or Wheat while breastt feeding or supplementing with IF.

joymary7: My baby boy is 17 weeks old (4 monhs old today) he suddenly stopped taking his SMA formula and chooses to take only breast milk, he never seem satisfied with the breast milk because he suck up to 10 times at nite. ‎i am thinking of changing his formula to solids so ‎i need advice on wat type to give to him.. ‎i am actually thinking of giving him Cerelac but the pharmacist said it is for babies from 6 months. What solid food is for 4 months old??
You can try Friso gold RICE,(pls don't use wheat for a baby under 6 months).

This is an exception cos we are baby friendly and preach exclusive breastt feeding for the first 6months.

Make it watery and continue breastt feeding at intervals. If your baby don't tolerate SMA try Friso gold1 infant formula(atleast,I have hands on experience on that).

Good luck!

deybowlah: @Helix. I need your advice. My baby is 10months old and she is 7.6kg. Is that not underweight for her age? Her weight was very good before infact she was almost 7kg at 6months when she was exclusively breastfed but she hasn't gained much since then. She doesn't like to eat except bossommilk. She is too playful so she can't concentrate while feeding. She hates all infant cereals(I have tried over 6types) she prefers adult food but she can't eat and be satisfied with that.
Its very frustrating. I give her wellkid multivitamin by vitabiotics and also little pediasure and conplan so she can get some nutrient.
What can be wrong with her? Since she was once gaining weight. I don't want to take her to the pediatrician cos they always abuse we first-time mum.
NB she is a very active baby tho and she is learning so fast for her age . s
I think u shud take her to a paedatrician, just to be on d safe side, don't mind wat thyl say to u,its ur babyz health that's important to u,not dat anything is wrong with ur babynsince her weight diidnt drop, its just dt it stayed stagnant, take her to d clinic just to be safe
Sorry,I have been busy.

You need to be concerned and I applaud you as a mother.I concur with the quote above (below your comments) but I disagree with her second paragraph.

See your pediatrician, there is need for examination and there are questions you will need to answer. You might even be surprised all is well.

That's the ethical thing to do but I will be glad to hear your feedback.

ayobarmy: my neighbour feeds her baby with it as well and the boy is as double of mine and they are the same age...
This is one problem I have with mothers,my baby is not big,my baby is smaller than my friend's............

Please note that Obesity in infant is another area of concern to pediatricians.

The fact is that Starch has to be hydrolyzed for infants and its not enough to say my baby is big or small, although weight is a factor in child growth.

Growth can be Quantitative which is measurable,weight,height....... and Qualitative which has to do with the maturation or development of internal organs like stomach,liver,kidney,heart,lungs.....which you can't visibly see. Also there are some deficiency diseases which if not controlled at infancy may be irreversible at adulthood.

My dear, its better to do the right thing at the right time. Custard is not a poison but its not modified for infant food!Did you make enough inquiry to what other things your neighbour feed her baby?Don't also forget that hereditary is another factor to be considered.

Have a productive day!
