Battles were fought in Africa! Eg Montgomery and Desert Fox ( Erwin Rommel) battles were fought in northern africa, and africa troops were used by the allies, even Erwin Rommel's Army was named the 'AFRIKA KORPS'.

Yeah it's true! Mostly their furniture allowances.

Just as any Parastatal in nigeria ,eg FIRS, PENCOM, PPPRA ..... in my own view, I will say it's like an upgrade from the normal civil service jobs available. Bigger salaries and incentives and less redundancies(eg Ghost workers).
