Thats are artical on the Tunsian war against islamic extremists that they fought and won with out any major news and only limited out side help. Well done to our northern brothers. And a good point is made that in a COIN operation the more advanced air craft is not needed. A simple reliabil machine with a good turn arround is needed.
However, won't the 20mm be too large to mount on the door of the AW109? In my opinion, a door mounted M2 browning is enough.

So for a fleet of 16 Helicopters, 10 can have a door mounted M2 browning.

There are limitations to using light aircrafts, basically trainers for COIN. Especially when you have an entrenched enemy, unlike in Tunisia were the terrorist threat is light.

A mix of 4 generation and light attack jets such as trainers is appropriate. So, jets would be picked according to the importance of the operation.

Andrewza, Nigerian Air Force Agusta Helos are usually armed with a "Ma Deuce". I agree they need Forward Looking Infrared Cameras.

Pic 2. NAF Mi-17 fitted with a surveillance pod
I know the fighter pilot, from the Sallah NAF bombing operations photos the Air Force released. He was one of two(2) pilots who flew combat sorties that day.

*Anyway in the future please try not to individually identify the operators, it's a major security risk. Thanks bro!

Will that day ever come, when NA will assemble these type of force.

Just saying...... wink
Yes...... I see this assembled everyday in my dreams. gringringrin

Anyway, the truth is, i have never wished for the Nigerian military to be as large as that of Egypt, and would active support a protest if it ever gets even 1/3 of the size of that of Egypt.

I mean, public utilities and infrastructure would suffer, I know for sure that the money Egypt uses to service it's military if used for public amenities can provide a standard of living similar to what the Jordanians have.

nice one add ,most importantly polymer too , on a lighter note have so gotten used to iron Ak that it felt somehow using the beryl carbine at first . grin grin
The AK is old school. So are all NA specialised units equipped with the Beryl, and have there been any new deliveries about from the initial order?

This makes for depressing reading. Seems government is again hiding behind competing demands. You know, for sometime now, I've had the horrible feeling that this present government far from wanting to modernise the army and looking for modern fighter aircraft, has probably been fighting hard behind the seen to cancel the JF 17 aircraft contracts of the last government. America would like that.
This is certainly not true. The JF-17s are coming, we would get up to 26 units, then go for a light trainer complimented by the Super Mushak.

The area where we would have to totally take out our minds is in battle fighting ships, Frigates and Corvettes, we won't be getting any of those anytime soon.

Truth about the matter is, Defence equipment is expensive and the costs keep going up. Thank God for the likes of the JF-17, we surely wouldn't have been able to procure modern fighter jets in quality numbers.

You mean a shellacking by the Russian winter!!

If Hitler just had the common sense not to attack Russia in winter it would've been bye bye USSR...also remember the Germans were fighting on multiple fronts and were still fvcking up the Russians before Winter hit!!
The winter was a factor not the deciding factor. The siege on St.Petersburg proved how resilient the Russian defenders were. The battle of Khursk was also very significant.

Airwaves battle.

Defence industry edge
Airwaves battle is completely irrelevant when most Algerians are Nationalists.

Defence industry gives an edge, however it doest give victory. The Germans had the largest defence industry in world war II, that however, didn't stop a shellacking by the Russians.

I don't know what to say, but with BVN, CBN would be able to track the individual owners of the account.

The bank is also mandated to report to the CBN transactions above $50,000 Cooperate and $10,000 individual. So if this report is true, and guidelines followed as stipulated our government knows much more than is reported.

With BVN no individual is hidden, it is impossible.

It is definitely not true. A bunch of paid hacks dishing out meaningless propaganda. $256 million or so to mercenaries, quite a hilarious amount been brandished.

well from the article it appears that Egypt might not be the ONLY customer for the new MIGs, from the WHOLE article which I didn't paste here because of the lenght, the writer assumes that the UNKNOWN customer is from Africa.

so your guess is as good as mine as to who the AFRICAN country might be...

as of now... right now this EGYPT AIR FORCE DOES NOT HAVE ANY MIG 29s
We know Egypt is ordering 46 MIG-29M and MIG-29M2, it's not new news. I can even post photos of Egyptian MIG-29Ms currently been built by MIG design bureau.

Algeria rejected the MIG-29, Sudan cannot afford the MIG-29M at the moment either. The other countries fly American planes.

They are the only customer according to Janes defence.

some $14 to $15 billion annually, a $2 billion MiG contract – which appears to be scheduled to be fulfilled over the course of 2016 to 2018 – is a big win for Russia.

Did the Nigeriens systematically rearmed Boko Haram is a question i can't answer
First off, there is nothing like an Islamic state group in West-Africa, we only have Boko-Haram. I don't quite get this sudden love by some commentators to link Boko-Haram with ISIS when there clearly is no history of cooperation or any cooperation at all between the two groups.

The Bosso attack is most unfortunate, Nigerian troops stationed at different outposts should get ready for an increased fighting season as soon as the dry season sets in.

my thoughts exactly bro
Littoral platforms in the size of 45-55meters(OPV) armed with guns and 4× whatever missile we can get would solve our problems...And ships of this of this class up to 70metres can finally fill the 10 OPVs plan of the NN

meanwhile am learning from Oga Nemesis like I used to learn from Lachit
Atleast 5 ships in the 45-55 meters class to complement our current fleet of vessels. We already have NNS Andoni II at 40 meters which is a very decent littoral combat size. 4 more ships, 50 meters armed with 2x 30mm guns, 4x anti-ship missiles and guns would do just fine, and i would want them locally built.

Instead of investing in larger OPVs, we invest in proper corvettes. Proper Type-056 corvettes. The Navy is currently lacking proper fighting ships.

Lachit and Nemesis are the exact same person, no need to bother your horses. The good thing is, unlike at Beegeagle were comments are restricted and is quite difficult to navigate, he faces none of that here. There's a lot of room for free thinking, navigation and content right here. If you doubt me, mention HAL's LCA in a bad light and see him pounce, the Indians love their LCA.

The Chinese guy is also good, I like his Chinese angle to equipment alternatives.

In all, it's all fun. It would be more fun to me when we start building a lot of sh1t like the South-Africans locally.

The Cyclone class ship is America's first line of defence in the event of a military confrontation with Iran.

They are a 51 meters Coastal Patrol Vessel designed to effectively patrol coastal waters. They have an endurance of 10 days, a crew complement of 38 crew including 8 Special Forces soldiers. Armament includes 6x Stinger missiles, 2x 25mm guns and other HMGs.

For countries like Nigeria that have a piracy problem, instead of wholly investing in 92meters OPVs, ships like the Cyclone class present an interesting proposition.

At 51 meters, the cyclone is in the class of naval vessels the Nigerian navy can comfortably build.
