The minority caucus in the house of representatives has asked President Bola Tinubu to suspend all political activities related to the 2027 elections and announce a six-month national security and economic recovery plan. Speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Fred Agbedi, minority leader of the house of representatives, claimed that Tinubu is focused on re-election politics rather than the safety and welfare of citizens. He said the country is facing an unprecedented crisis marked by killings, kidnappings, economic hardship and what he described as attempts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. “The life of every Nigerian matters. Politics must take the back seat when the nation bleeds. We must secure Nigeria first,” Agbedi said. “President Tinubu must suspend all 2027 political activities and declare a six-month national security and economic recovery plan. Lead or leave.” Agbedi, who was flanked by his colleagues, described the killing of Rabe Abubakar, a retired major general, who died while in captivity after being abducted alongside his wife in Katsina state, as a “national shame” and evidence of a failed security architecture. He said the death of the former military officer underscores the deteriorating security situation in the country and raises concerns over the safety of ordinary citizens. “If a general is not safe within the borders of our nation, then who truly is?” Agbedi asked. The ranking lawmaker condemned the continued captivity of schoolchildren and their tutors abducted in Oyo state, accusing the government of failing to take decisive action against mass kidnappings. The minority leader called for a special military operation to secure the release of the victims within 72 hours, adding that every hour they spend in captivity represents “an hour stolen from Nigeria’s future”. The opposition lawmaker faulted the ruling delivered by Peter Lifu, judge of the federal high court, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister five opposition parties. The legislator described the verdict as “judicial overreach” and alleged that it was intended to shrink the democratic space and exclude credible opposition voices from the 2027 presidential contest. If Sen. Seriake Dickson could not handpick a candidate in his own constituency, what makes anyone think he can handpick a party flag bearer for Edo people, Abuja people, or any other part of the country? Sen. Dickson is from Sagbama LGA in Bayelsa State, specifically Sagbama Constituency I. In that constituency, consensus was not achieved because the aspirants chose not to step down for one another. As a result, they went through the democratic process of primaries and tested their popularity among party members. If Dickson could not impose a candidate in his own constituency, what makes anyone think he could impose one elsewhere in the country? NDC is not like the APC, where many people believe candidates are predetermined even before nomination forms are purchased. NDC believes in internal democracy, fairness, and allowing party members to decide who represents them. So, disregard the videos and propaganda circulating on social media claiming that Dickson promised anyone a ticket and later failed to deliver. Was he ever supposed to allocate tickets to aspirants in the first place? The answer is no. NDC is committed to offering Nigerians genuine change, and no amount of misinformation or propaganda can derail that mission. NDC – Service |

Which one is homeland security again? Last I checked, it's USA they established that special security unit. Kuku get CIA, FBI, DEA, US marines, US marshal service, NSA etc... |
I doubt if this is true. A man who has been on the run for how long now, will not have the time and resources to plan any disruptions. He is probably not in Nigeria |
NDC is taking over Bayelsa in 2027. Henry Seriake Dickson is never lightweight politician |
Yet, the serving minister of state for petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri was not suspended for supporting Douye Diri of PDP against Timipre Sylva of APC in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State. Who is deceiving who? What is good in bayelsa politics is not good in abia abi

Nigeria needs more of Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson in the Nigeria Senate |
In a political climate where silence is often safer than conviction, Henry Seriake Dickson continues to stand firm as a courageous voice for democratic principles in Nigeria. Representing Bayelsa West in the Senate, he has consistently demonstrated that leadership is not about echoing the majority, it is about defending the Constitution, protecting institutional integrity, and speaking up when it matters most. At a time when national debates are intense and political pressures are high, Senator Dickson has shown remarkable steadfastness. His opposition to certain federal policies is not rooted in partisanship, but in principle — a commitment to rule of law, due process, and the preservation of Nigeria’s democratic foundations. Democracy thrives on debate. It survives on courage. And it grows when leaders choose principle over convenience. Senator Dickson’s voice in the red chamber reminds us that democracy is strongest when there are leaders willing to question, scrutinize, and hold power accountable. In defending constitutional order and advocating for transparency, he continues to play a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey.

obi4eze:Those are few of the many corrupt cases. Only God knows how many corrupt UK police officers has gone scot free with such acts |
Kemi or whatever her name is, if she has changed the name already, is only being bitter and desperate. Barrack Obama was the president of the greatest nation on earth, yet he cherished his Kenyan lineage and never made any bad remark about Kenya. Not because Kenya is better than Nigeria Rishi Sunak was UK former PM with an Indian lineage and he did not talk down on India to please the whites. Kemi is just an opposition leader but had already mistaken herself to be the prime minister. Let's watch and see where she will end |
Akfrenzy:Have you even seen what it entails? A bill that seeks to reduce the tax burden on lower income earners, small business, remote workers etc. You are more ignorant than the Senator |
The same USA that facilitated and influenced the ICC judgement to arrest Putin for war crimes. Double standard |
Bobloco:That's not the case, states can form their own templates and that's where a lot of things will go wrong as it is in Bayelsa State. Though from what I have seen so far from few other states, Bayelsa's own is relatively dubious |
The civil servants in Bayelsa State has been deceived |
Bayelsa state workers who were celebrating when governor Diri announced a new minimum wage of 80k, which is 10k above the federal government are now planning protest when the template was made public. The governor in October last month, promised a minimum wage of 80k, which he said will become effective from November 1st. Minimum Wage Structure: - _Level 1, Step 1_: N80,000 - _Level 2, Step 1_: N80,277 - _Level 3, Step 1_: N80,514 - _Level 4, Step 1_: N80,649 - _Level 5, Step 1_: N80,774 - _Level 6, Step 1_: N80,954 As seen above, level 1 to 6 earns 80k. In the higher levels like 14,15,16 and 17, the addition to the previous amounts ranges from 5,000 to 20,000. Most civil servants believed that the government is not sincere and are pleading with the national leadership of NLC and TUC to intervene.

atiku4President:First to comment can also give the dumbest opinion. Value competent above sentiment. If she better, people will support her, otherwise, the best should be supported. Our own Ngozi is heading a financial organization that is more prestigious than Afdb, can you say that we are more women friendly than the rest of the world. |

southsouthking:Very true. Dickson did not just stop there, he has been visiting other Ijaw leaders like Goodluck Jonathan and E.K Clarke over this crisis. Somehow, they must have given Fubara some form of assurance that the presidency will not interfere. |
