Update. The hen that hatched 18 chicks have weened them. She has started receiving roosters again. Hopefully she resumes laying in no distant time. Another hen is sitting on eggs about 12 of them and today is 1 week. Let's see how it goes.

Where is the incubator farmer in Abuja? I do raise local chicken too but I dont have much space so I allow them to roam. But the rate of stealing them is getting too much now. If I have 6 cocks from from a brood, I might end up eating only 3 or 4. At least, 2 must be lost to theives. I even tie uniform pieces of cloth on their wings, still the thif keep stealing my chichen. I would release them in the morning, they would come home like 4 times during the day for lunch but before we put them in the cage in the evening, some would not come home again and it's more of the big cock. Sometimes even hens too.
I cannot keep cock for long now, once they start crowing, i have to slaughter them no matter how small the are and even at that, it is still a competition who gets it first.

So sorry about that. My own compound is big enough. It can accommodate up to 500 birds. But i want to cap it at just 50 birds. Any excess will be sold and eaten. So currently i have 1 rooster, 7 hens and 17 chicks. Let's see how it goes

As for the Incubator, I live in Lugbe. The incubator is also in Lugbe. If you are in Lugbe then i can connect you. Or else, you can search online. I also did same. When my office colleague told me she takes egges to marraraba for hatching from Airport Road, i said it is too far for me. So i searched online and it took me to facebook where i got her contact and I called her to connect.

I should be hearing from her today because the first batch of 12 eggs i took to her should be hatching from today.

Good morning. Well, when i started in Kaduna Last year with two hens, one hatched 4 chicks and the other laid 15 eggs, i took the 15 of them to indubator and only 11 hatched. When they were 2 months old, i transported them to Abuja together with the hens and her 3 surviving kids. Along the line, 7 died as a result my mistake, i mixed them up in one cage and the mature hens were pecking the juveniles until they had head injury and did not survive. So i seperated them and started opening the cage for them every morning, by evening, they will all troop back in. The mature ones go up while the young ones stay down. When they started laying again, the one that laid 15 eggs in kaduna chose a secret spot and laid a whooping 20, she hatched 18 between 27, 28 and 29 August, 2026. One chick is dead currently.

As for the other eggs i was picking up, i have taken 27 total eggs to incubator the incubator. 12 first on the 14 Aug, then 10 later for hens while i bought 5 turkey eggs and decided to experiment. So this Friday i should be expecting the incubator farmer to call me with some good news.

So that is what i can say for now regarding incubator.

Thank you once again to Poster Kay9000 for this wonderful and very educative thread. I've been following the experiences shared here and learning a lot from everyone's successes, mistakes and, of course, the many battles with cats, rats and other predators. 😂
So, I thought I'd share my own little update.
I currently have a small flock that I'm gradually building, and one of my hens has just hatched 18 chicks — my first successful natural hatch! 🥳🐣
The funny thing is that this hen practically conducted the entire operation behind my back. 😂
She had been laying eggs without me knowing exactly where she was putting them. Meanwhile, I was happily picking the other eggs I could find, completely unaware that Madam had her own private breeding programme going on somewhere.
Then one day, she disappeared.
I searched around but couldn't find her and honestly thought a cat had gotten to her. Considering the stories I've read about cats and poultry, I wasn't surprised.
Fortunately, I later discovered that she had simply gone into hiding to brood.
A labourer I hired to clear some of the surroundings helped me locate her hiding place. From that point, I started keeping a close watch over her and making sure nothing disturbed her.
And then... Voila! 18 chicks! 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣
I honestly wasn't expecting that many.
This is the first hatch from all the birds I'm currently rearing, so seeing that little army of chicks following their mother around has been a very satisfying moment.
It hasn't been completely smooth sailing, though.
On the very day she hatched the chicks, a cat decided to pay us a visit. 😡
The cat apparently saw an opportunity and made a move towards the chicks, but luckily I noticed it in time and intervened before it could do any damage.
After reading all the stories here about people losing entire broods to cats and rats overnight, I'm now taking the security of these little ones very seriously. 😂
At the moment, one other hen is still sitting on 5 eggs, so hopefully I'll have another batch soon.
I've also put about 22 eggs into an incubator, so if everything goes well, there should be many more little feet running around here in the coming weeks.
From one hen secretly laying eggs somewhere I didn't know about, disappearing and making me think she'd been taken by a predator, to suddenly presenting me with 18 chicks...
I'd say she deserves the award for "Best Kept Secret" in my poultry project. 😂🐔🐣

Good evening house. Thank you so much for this thread. I have been following it gradually and learning also from it. So I started mine too from Kaduna then moved to Abuja.

I bought 2 local hens and mixed it with our family's noilers and brahma. When they had eggs, i took it to incubator for hatching. After hatching, I relocated to Abuja with them.

Unfortunately I have no male rooster. I've told someone in Kaduna to help me find a noiler or brahma rooster so i can start brooding. Although they lay eggs but it can't be hatched because no male presence.

I constructed a cage for them before I fenced the space I actually want them to only roam in. They were 11 in total, 7 thet were hatched from machine, then 3 from natural hatch. Although 3 died as a result of them staying in the cage and got pecked by the local hen.

I've attached pictures too.

Pic 1 is the little fence I did so they won't cross and litter my compound all the time.

Pic 2 is the space I want them to use anytime I open them from there cage.

Please someone should create a WhatsApp platform for us to share experiences.

Infact after 1 week, my MIL took her to park and sent her to Gombe from Kaduna to go stay with their parents. All of a sudden after like a week, my MIL will be calling her sister and the number won't connect so she decided calling others for help asking after her sister, they told her the husband came and carried her back to Kaduna. So she found out her sister blocked her line . Since that day, she said she will never put mouth in husband and wife affair again.

I joined around August and invested 25k. Brought like 45 people which 30 invested too. I've made my money. But last Friday before they crashed, they Introduced alligator which is 70k with a daily income of 7k for 365 days. That was when I sensed something was going on. And the payment account changed from company account to private account of one Yoruba guy called muyiwa Azeez.

And to make matters worst on that Friday, in the WhatsApp group chat, when I replied someone, one of the admins with a foreign number dm'd and spoke pidgin with me by saying Aliyu how far u dey keffi? I replied and said yes. I started drawing the attention of my friends that were about to buy alligator, nobody listened to me that I dey do bad belle. The guys are smart. They Introduced the alligator of a thing on a Friday because withdrawal is not allowed on Sat and Sun and said if you buy the alligator, you'll exchange your bonus point with money, so I had upto 70k already in my wallet I just used it to buy the alligator and I saw more than 1 million in the ranch app wallet but you can't withdraw until monday. If you see the number of Nigerians buying the alligator just to exchange the alleged grade points, you'll now remember we are lazy and just looking for fast cash. Some were even planning on the cars they'll buy and house they'll build by doing nothing.

When Monday came and everybody applied for withdrawal expecting to get it by Tuesday, that was when they said you'll have to pay extra 2k to withdraw due to system collapse.

And the funny thing is some still paid the 2k �� .

I said the main gee boys have cashed out leaving the learners to cash out their own 2k.
