Hi Job seeking nairalanders..

Wat is usually the greatest problems u encounter/encountered while searchin for a job?

If u currently dnt know, maybe try brainstorming to get it exactly cus it may be the biggest reason why u still havent got a job of ur dreamsp

or if u have already gotten one, you can still help by telling others how it worked out for you and how you overcame the obstacles in your way. Your comments might just help someone land a job tomorrow.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The words rang in his ear as he looked around the room for something to drink. He found none. Slowly, he dialled one of his lieutenants who always stayed in the same building he spent the night in.

He was a wanted man. As a top member of the Snakes and the heir-apparent to the number one post, he was heavily guarded. He dared not sleep anywhere without adequate security measures. He knew what he meant to a lot of people, rivals and friends alike. Not after single-handedly ‘scoring’ all six goals in the current ‘game’ of superiority his cult group was involved in with their main rivals, the Cats Confraternity.

Ding ding

The number rang but no one picked.

“That’s unusual,” he said to himself, the first streaks of panic starting to get to him, “something is wrong.”

He dialled again. No answer.

Quickly, he jumped up from the chair, reached for his boxer short on the floor and began dressing up.

“Baby, what is the matter?” Bisi asked, his sudden hurry had woken her from sleep.

“Shhh.” He shut her up with a finger to his lips. Fear jumped into the girl’s eyes and she shot up from the bed too, looking for her g-string. When she couldn’t find it, she abandoned the search and wore her jeans like that, quickly throwing on a tank top, there was no time for the bra.

“I think something’s wrong Bisi, Stone is not picking his call.” He hurriedly whispered to her as he pulled on his Arsenal jersey. He dipped his hand in the space between the bed and the mattress and pulled out a locally made handgun. It was his private weapon, for emergencies.

“Ah!” Bisi gasped.

“I’ll go check him now, but you just stay here and wait. Ok?”

She nodded, her whole being dripping with pockets of fear.

***

They knew he would come out. After two missed calls, they knew what his next step would be. So they waited. Today will be the day. After weeks of planning and plotting and three failed attempts, they could not afford to miss the opportunity. This was the first time he’d slept anywhere with very little security. His one-man security had been macheted to death a few minutes earlier just as his call came in.

They called him Python, the de-facto Strike man of the Snakes. He was not going to be an easy victim, but he would be their highest profile, yet. If they got it right, they would balance the score. At 6-2, they were losing the ‘game’. But this would be their sucker punch, and it’d definitely be worth 4 goals. Investing in mercenaries had been their joker. If this ended up badly, they could as well forget it. The Python and by extension, the Snakes, would never take things easy with them. It’d be a full war. They must avoid war; the Python must go.

Programming / Jumia.com Gets $60 Million To Expand Its Market In Nigeria, Egypt, And Morocco. by hienyimba(m): 12:58am On Jun 19, 2013
This weekend, online retailer, Jumia, raised a $35 million series B to expand its market in Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco. The investment came from Millicom, who is located in Africa and South America. Earlier this year, Jumia also raised a $26 million Series A from Summit Partners. In a mere year, Jumia has received $61 million in funding bigger than what Google raised in its first year (1998).

The Next Web

Jumia the leading online retailer in Nigeria, has raised $35 million in fresh funding from Millicom to expand in its domestic market and move into a new 90,000 square foot warehouse located in Lagos.

The company is celebrating its first anniversary today and has served over half a million customers in the country to date. The new milestone means that JUMIA is now the fourth most visited Nigerian website.

“We started with three employees building up an e-commerce platform in Nigeria,” Raphael Afaedor, co-founder of JUMIA said. “Now, we have more than 500 employees and offer Nigerian’s youth great opportunities to work in one of the leading e-commerce companies in Africa.

“JUMIA delivers the widest range of products in the country and our new warehouse allows us to even grow further. We focus every day on delivering a fantastic shopping experience for our customers – fast, secure and stress-free.”

At least 500 employees will be based at the warehouse in Lagos, although it’s not clear if this will consist of new or existing staff. Regardless, the company claims that it will be the largest e-commerce campus in West Africa, which is no small feat.

Also,

Venture Beat

Africa doesn’t need Amazon. It has its own rainforests and its own e-commerce giants. Online retailer Jumia has secured $26 million (€20 million) to expand into additional markets in Africa.

Like its American forebear, Jumia sells a wide range of goods at low cost with easy delivery and returns. The retailer is currently active in Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco and sells clothing, electronics, furniture, books, baby products, cosmetics, home appliances, and even booze. Rather than paying online, shoppers can pay at their doorstep.

Jumia launched about a year ago out of Rocket Internet and quickly grew its customer base. Many of Africa’s e-commerce companies focus their operations in South Africa, where the economy and access to technology is the strongest. However, e-commerce is still a tricky issue in Africa, as payment technology and Internet connectivity are not strong and many consumers don’t have smartphones, computers, or extra money to spend shopping online.

Although Internet and mobile penetration still has a long way to go in Africa, the rates are climbing, particularly in the mobile sector. A growing middle class means more opportunities for business are arising.

Narrowing the Gap -An Experience

I was not making much headway in my academic results despite my zeal, and muttering to myself that I can be the best, or I am the best
I wanted the sky, but my results were not improving. I was fighting like a crab in a bucket
untill that day when it hit me:

If you want to reach for the sky, first reach for your roof top

It's so visual that you can touch it.
Remember the tower of babel. It was built from the ground up
It is self explanatory isnt it
So my mind (probably the holy spirit), began to teach me a thing or 2 about reaching for the sky using visual images
This is what he/it thought me .......

Finish, finish then finish (Up the roof you go) -

(This viusal representation would be more powerful if na jand u dey)
When you want to reach for the sky, after shouting yourself hoarse about it plus speaking in tongue and binding demons join
Simply climb your rooftop. That's the first and easiest step
Then look for the next taller building. Climb from your roof to that one
Soon you'll get to the top of the sky scraper. When you get there, you could then think of what next

The advantage of this approach is that you are inching upwards gradually but surely, and can never fall down completely.
If you fall from the roof of the duplex (upstairs), it will only be unto the roof of the flat (downstairs)
Much better than looking at the sky and speaking to it, expecting a spacecraft to come pick you up

this quote above was culled from web-thinking nairaland guru Esere986 but its used here cus it serves the purpose.

How to Create your Economic Success Out Of You.

Above, a detailed analysis is given on how you can reach the top WHICH is not by sitting in your bedroom everyday & simply waiting for that big break (i must accept at this point that am mightly guilty of this too) but by taking small steps which leads towards the goal and makes up the big steps. We always keep on hearing "oh that guy is lucky" but if truth be told, there is really no such thing as luck. Just people who positioned themselves to make stuff happen for them.
Case In Point: Bill
I do not need to include Gates for every1 to decipher who i speak of, do i? Now we all know that Gates founded a software gaint but do we know how? small steps. by developing software for a company-which developed software for another company-which developed software for Tech Gaint IBM. and we all know the power of recommendations so i will leave you to google the rest which as they say "is hisTORy".

Negation to The Law: My WebHoster

Though i hate bad-mouthing businesses as i know we all are involved in "The Struggle", but a lot of people fall into this issue. We all need our big breaks. Yes.But how? so we begin by targeting the influencers. My webhoster might target finance gaints like First Bank, Zenith. hoping that landing them brings in the big boxes. Right? Wrong. When microsoft started, Bill and Paul Allen travelled to Mexico to work for this particular "small software" company. Why didn't they just knock on IBM's doors and say "hey. I can develop software for you". The bitter answer is, well IBM execs would have simply laughed at them & throw them out (who wouldn't). Finance gaints would in the same vein, go to world acclaimed web gaints like Amazon Web Services or Godaddy.com for their web needs(who wouldn't). My webhoster then, thinking i am just a scrappy business, will provide teribble services as i don't make them big money.
Caveats to This Approach:
I will never recommend them to anyone.
I might grow to become a force/ gaint (which they wanted all along) but because of my experiences with them, would never patronise them.
Thirdly, they lose all in all.

Remember. Life is all about small steps because they make up the big steps. It was no fool that said "Rome was not built in a day" neither did Oyedepo's church become big overnight. Warren Buffet has been an Investor since 1964 (when Nigeria was busy fighting for Independence). Nairaland didn't start in 2012. Amazon was started in 1994. Same with Multichoice's DSTV.

The bible says"never despise the days of small beginnings

But How
This might be the first question that first comes to everyone's mind. I might not know the answers but in the spirit of small steps and reaching for the sky little by little, let's begin by looking into Our Hands.

Oh, not like into your hands you dummy, get the ambigram. What are your abilities?

6. Adversity can be turned to strength. Adversity can break you or make you. Thechoice for how to respond to adversity is entirely yours. In 2002, Victor Moses was an 11 year old boy mourning the killing of his parents in religious riots in Kaduna. In 2013, he was helping his native country win a trophy that had been elusive for 19 years. The experience of seeing one’s parents murdered will break even the strongest amongst us. The idea that the boy so grieved would ever agree to lace upboots for the nation that failed him, is incredible. Moses believes his parents “look down on him” when he plays. Moses has turned his personal tragedy into great strength. He can play anywhere in the world, and be sure that he has loved ones looking on, applauding his every move. Has your personal tragedy or failing kept you down? Look for the silver lining in your cloud!

7. No vision, No progress. You must want it to have it. Those who have outstanding success have the ability to picture exactly what they hope for, and to hold on to that vision – even if no one else believes in their dream. Here are Keshi’s words: “I told the Togolese people we would qualify for the World Cup and they didn’t believe. I told my captain (Joseph Yobo) that we were coming to South Africato win the cup, but he also didn’t believe.” Everything starts with the vision. When your goal is to win, it makes you get the right players in place, it makes you emphasize training and hard work. Have you determined what success looks like to you? It doesn’t matter whether others buy into it at first.

8. Acknowledge God’s Grace. Yes the Nigerian team practiced hard, but so did many others before them who failed. Yes, the team was full of talent. But there have been more talented teams that failed to win the ultimate prize. Ultimately, there is an element of God’s grace and providence in every triumph. That knowledge keeps us grounded, and stops us from getting swollen headed.

9. Meritocracy pays dividends. Once upon a time, the composition of the Nigerian football team could be predicted a full year in advance. The players that were called up – the big boys, as they were called – felt entitled. It didn’t matter if they had sat on the bench all season at their clubs. The result of that approach speaks for itself – 19 years of failure at the continental level. In Nigeria’s political life, ethnic balancing and strident nepotism has eroded a once stellar culture of achievement. Where merit is not allowed to reign, failure inevitably follows. Allowing merit to prevail might mean every player comes from the same village. It might mean having 6 local players in the team. It might mean dropping some “big-boys”. One thing is certain – failure is a stranger where merit reigns.

10. Don’t change your friends too quickly. Success has many fathers, but failure isan orphan. When you are successful, the whole world suddenly wants a piece of you. Always remember though, that those who now hail and acclaim you as a “Super Eagle” in your moment of success will be the same ones who will rail at you and call you “Super Chicken” when failure comes knocking. Appreciate those who stood by you when the going was tough. They are your true friends.

The applause has died off. The 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Nigeria team have played themselves into the annals of history. However, there are timeless lessons to be gleaned from the performance and attitudes of the Super Eagles coach and players. Here are ten of the most pertinent lessons.

1. Stand your ground. When Keshi submitted his list of players, he was roundly lampooned for the list of players he came up with. The big name, perennial stalwarts were absent. Six of the players he selected played in the lackluster local league. Keshi and his team were written off even before the games began. It is easier to swim in the direction in which a stream flows – but sometimes, true progress can only come by taking a stand that goes against the common grain. Stand your ground, when you believe your reasoning is sound, and your cause is right.

2. Focus on your weakness. Your strengths are already solid. It is your weakness that makes victory elusive. Nigeria’s problem at the nation’s cup has never been a lack of individual skills. It has been the inability to forge team unity and cohesion, and the lack of a genuine hunger for greatness. Keshi’s team had cohesion in abundance, and it is not accidental that this is the first Nigerian team in decades that did not implode with infighting and conflict at AFCON. It probably helped that the team was written off before the games even began, which forced them to bondever more tightly. It also helped that players with outsized egos were not called up. The scorned team’s desire to prove themselves spurred them on to greatness.

3. Stay the course. At the start of the tournament, the Nigerian team conceded a last minute goal to Burkina Faso, struggled against Zambia, and needed penalties toovercome Ethiopia. By the fourth game against Cote D’Ivoire, it all started to come together. They started to click at just the right time. It was not accidental. The errors of the early games were important learning opportunities for the later games. The pre-tournament training in Portugal had helped bring the team together. Being written off gave them a hunger to succeed. It took some time for all the elements to come together. Heated metal in a blacksmith’s forge first appears to be untouched by the searing flames – and then suddenly, it yields, and starts to flow. Stay the course. Don’t give up before your situation yields – like metalin the forge.

4. Have a Plan, but be ready to modify it as needed. Nigeria played free flowing, attacking football throughout the tournament. That basic strategy never changed. Against Mali, there was a slight modification. Keshi asked the team to speed the game up further. Why? Because the Mali defenders lacked pace. The plan had worked up to that game, but to succeed, even good plans might need to be changed or modified. Plans are not developed in a vacuum, and he best plans are adaptable, taking cues from the field of play, and responding to them.

5. Solutions lie around us. The Yoruba often say that “what you are looking for in Sokoto (a City) is in your Sokoto (your pants)”. Mba, Oboabona, Uzoenyi, Gabriel, Agbim and Egwueke play in the Nigerian league. Fittingly, it was Mba’s goal that won the trophy for Nigeria. Look around you. What you need to succeed might be closer than you think.

The residents of Princess Hostel were used to her loud prayer sessions. One only needed to stay in the hall for two straight days to know her worship schedule. She would start at exactly 4a.m. and praise-worship till 5a.m. After which she’d embark on an hour of relentless prayers, speaking in unknown languages interspersed with the known. She was to the hall a bastion of spiritual fortress. There was a feeling of security that came with staying in the same hall with her. Her hall mates used to complain of her prayer schedule, especially when she got into those tongues, but since she’d twice ‘seen’ and prayed against two different calamities that would have befallen two hall mates, they’d learnt to deign to her spiritual abilities.

That Thursday morning, when her praying pattern digressed from the usual, the whole hall knew something was not right. Not only was her worship session heavily punctuated with loud wailings and supplications to her God, every word of prayer she said was forced, hurried and sad unlike the free flow of unknown tongues they knew her for.

“Mercy, Lord. Mercy. Give him some more time, Lord.” A few lines of unknown tongues followed before they heard her say, “Your words say you do not want the death of a sinner; please Father, please.” They heard her say, amidst sobs, continuously and persistently. No one knew why she prayed that way. Was another hall mate in danger? No one knew what troubled her. But she knew. And He knew too.
