Hello... I would like to share some knowledge of Stroke with us, its symptoms and causes, and the proper recommendation for treatment of stroke for the best results.

A stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is either interrupted or reduced. When this happens, the brain does not get enough oxygen or nutrients, and brain cells start to die. The loss of blood flow to the brain damages tissues within the brain. Stoke is sometimes termed a brain attack or a cardiovascular accident. It is much like a heart attack, only it occurs in the brain.

Stroke may be caused by a blocked artery(typically blood clot) or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel, but about 80 percent of strokes are caused by a blocked artery. Stroke often occurs with little or no warning, and the results can be devastating.

Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability, with an estimated 5.4 million stroke survivors currently alive today. Although they are more common in older adults, strokes can occur at any age. People age 55 or older have a higher risk of stroke than do younger people. Men have a higher risk of stroke than women. Women are usually older when they have strokes, and they account for more than half of all stroke deaths

Symptoms of Stroke
(I) Paralysis, weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
(ii) Trouble with speaking and understanding speech
(iii) Trouble with seeing in one or both eyes.
(iv) Loss of balance and coordination.
(v) Drooping on one side of the face, or an uneven smile.
(vi) Severe headache with an unknown cause

When do you need Medical Attention?
Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any signs or symptoms of a stroke, even if they seem to come and go or they disappear completely.

Prompt Treatment is required to prevent the following outcomes :
a) Brain Damage
b) Long-term disability
c) Death

NB: Rehabilitation is also an important and ongoing part of stroke treatment. With the right assistance and the support of loved ones, regaining a normal quality of life is usually possible, depending on the severity of the stroke.

Prevention of Stroke
Chances of you having a stroke can be reduced by the following:
1) Quit smoking
2) Drink alcohol with moderation, if at all.
3) Exercise regularly, and keep your weight down.
4) Eat diets rich in fruits and vegetables.
5) Go for checkups regularly, and stay in communication with your doctor.

Proper Treatment for Stroke
A Stroke is a medical emergency that needs immediate attention. The good news is, stroke is treatable, but it requires early medical intervention to prevent/minimize brain damage. A complete treatment of any health challenge is only achieved when proper diagnosis is met with the right and adequate recommendation of treatment.

And going through these, it helps to improve the quality of your health and your life. By lowering the blood cholesterol levels, breaking any blood clots, and preventing blood vessels constriction.

Health / Are You Looking For A Lasting Solution For Your High Blood Pressure by Highwellness: 10:46am On Apr 15, 2023
High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is when your blood pressure increases to unhealthy levels. Your blood pressure measurement takes into account how much blood is passing through your blood vessels and the amount of resistance the blood meets while the heart is pumping.

Hypertension is a silent condition, many people won't experience any symptoms. It may take years or even decades for the condition to reach levels severe enough that symptoms become obvious. The best way to know if you have hypertension is to get regular blood pressure readings.

A blood pressure reading is written like this : 120/80. It's read as 120 over 80. The top number is called the Systolic, and bottom number is called Diastolic. Prompt attention is needed when the reading is always at 140 and above / 90 and above to prevent hypertension crisis.

Hypertensive crisis: The systolic number is over 180 mm Hg, or the diastolic number is over 120 mm Hg. Blood pressure in this range requires urgent medical attention. If any symptoms such as chest pain, headache, shortness of breath, or visual changes occur when blood pressure is this high, medical care is highly needed.

Causes of Hypertension
Hypertension may develop over time with no identifiable causes, most people have this type of high Blood pressure. Or several conditions may cause hypertension. They include :
(i)Kidney problems (ii) Adrenal and thyroid problems (iii) Older age (iv) Drug abuse and too much alcohol (v) Smoking (vi) Lack of physical activity (vii) Too much salt in the diet (viii) A family history of hypertension

Symptoms of Hypertension
(i) Headaches
(ii) Shortness of breath
(iii) Nosebleeds
(iv) Dizziness
(v) Chest pain
(vi) Visual changes

Although, the symptoms don't occur in everyone with hypertension, but waiting for a symptom of this condition to appear could be fatal.

NOTE: Most people with high blood pressure are "salt sensitive", meaning that anything more than the minimal bodily need for salt is too much for them and increases their blood pressure.

A heart-healthy diet emphasizes foods that include: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins like fish. Lower salt intake, alcohol drinking. Avoid red meat.

Complications
Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to complications including :
(a) Heart attack and stroke
(b) Heart failure
(c) Vision loss (after thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes)
(d) Trouble with memory or understanding
(e) Dementia.

Proper Treatment of Hypertension
A complete treatment of any health challenge is only achieved when proper medical evaluation is met with the right, adequate recommendation of treatment. And going through these, it helps to improve the quality of your health and your life. It is widely thought there's no cure for high blood pressure, and most HBP patients are asked to take some medications endlessly to suppress the effects.

An effective treatment works tremendously by improving the overall heart health and enhancing the functioning of the heart so as lower the HBP to optimum level, and also improve the health of other parts of the cardiovascular system.

Health / Are You Looking For A Lasting Solution For Arthritis/rheumatism by Highwellness: 10:45pm On Apr 14, 2023
Do you wake up in the morning with stiff joints? Are your knees, hands, hips, neck or lower back aching more than before and it's getting harder to move in general? Have you noticed that some of the joints in your hands and feet have become swollen?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be developing arthritis, the most common joint problem in older people.

6 Surprising Truths Every Arthritic Patient Needs To Know
a) There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, but osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the most common types.

b) Arthritis is mostly seen in adults over the age of 60, but it can also develop in children, teens and younger adults.

c) Women are more likely to develop arthritis than men, especially when it comes to rheumatoid arthritis, and also in people who are overweight.

d) Having rheumatoid arthritis makes you more likely to experience a serious cardiovascular event like a heart attack or stroke.

e) Arthritis is a significant cause of disability among adults. If left untreated, it will get worse with time.

f) Rheumatism is no longer a medical term, so Arthritis is more preferred to be called the condition.

What are the symptoms of Arthritis?
The joints are the most commonly affected by arthritis signs and symptoms. Depending on the type of arthritis you have, you may experience the following signs and symptoms :
a) Stiffness and pain
b) Redness and swelling
c) Reduced range of motion
Other symptoms are unexplained fever, fatigue, weight loss and swollen lymph glands. Symptoms typically last more than two weeks.

Why you suffer from Arthritis?
Two of the most common types of Arthritis are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis (The most common type) involves wear-and-tear damage to your joint's cartilage, occuring over many years or it could be hastened by a joint injury or infection.

Cartilage cushions the ends of the bones and allows nearly frictionless joint motion, but enough damage can result in bone grinding, directly on bone, which causes pain and restricted movement.

In Rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system attacks the lining of the joint capsule, a tough membrane that encloses all the joint parts. This lining becomes inflamed and swollen. The disease process can eventually destroy cartilage and bone within the joint.

When do you need Medical Attention?
It's very important you see a health care professional when you experience the following :
I) When you are feeling pain from arthritis; it may come and go, or it may be constant. It may affect only one part, or it may be felt in many parts of the body.
II) When the affected joint become red or swollen, and feels warm to the touch.
III) Stiffness : This is most likely upon waking up in the morning, after sitting at a desk, or sitting in a car for a long time.
IV) If moving a joint or getting up from a chair is hard or painful, it could indicate arthritis, or another joint problem.

Who are at risk of Arthritis?
Men and women 45 years of age and older
Females 15 years of age and older
People who are obese
Someone with a family history of arthritis.
People with past injuries to joints.
People with certain occupations that require frequent repetitive joint activities, for example, kneeling or stooping.

Note : A number of factors increase blood pressure in people with rheumatoid arthritis, including a lack of exercise and drugs used to treat the disease.

Complications
If left untreated, severe arthritis, particularly if it affects your hands or arms, can make it difficult for you to do daily tasks. Arthritis of weight-bearing joints can keep you from walking comfortably or sitting up straight. In some cases, joints may become twisted and deformed.

Healthy habits you can practice to reduce your risk of developing Arthritis
a) Eat fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids : Omega-3s have a number of health benefits, and they can reduce inflammation in the body
b) Maintain a good body weight : Your knees have to support your body weight. Being overweight or obese can take a real toll on them.
c) Exercise : Exercise not only takes the stress of excess weight off your joints, but also strengthens the muscles around the joints.
d) Try to avoid injury when playing sports or participating in recreational activities.
e) Go for medical care immediately : The damage from arthritis is usually progressive, meaning the longer you wait to seek treatment, the more destruction can occur to the joint.

Proper Treatment of Arthritis
Its treatment involves repairing the worn-out tissues, strengthening the blood vessels and veins, and lubricating every joint in the body for easy movement. A standard treatment helps to greatly improve your joint health, prevent pain and inflammation so you can have better flexibility and be in great shape again.
