And back to the main point. Hillary has decided to put wife on her Bio because ::

1) Hillary's ACTUALLY a wife- married to Bill . So case 1: it's not like she's lying about who she's not. She has not called her self Superman

2) A wife has a duty in a family setting, just like a husband, child, Aunt etc also have.
Hillary has felt she has perform her duty really well ( whether it's washing plate, telling your husband to cook,giving your husband good advice or whatever) and she feels she should flaunt her accomplishments ALONG WITH OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS which she has in other areas of her life. Case 2 :: Hillary's DECIDED to flaunt her ACCOMPLISHMENTS.


Now what Adichie is trying to do and also one of the things which most FEMINISTS have been trying to do is UNDERMINE THE INSTITUTION CALLED MARRIAGE. She's trying to say Hillary can flaunt her achievements in other fields but can't flaunt her achievement in marriage, all coz she's a WOMAN. To me, Adichie is a misogynist trying to force an individual to decide what she deems fit to flaunt or not . If she feels she's had a hand in making who Bill Clinton was, then she should be allowed to flaunt it!! Adichie lacks critical reasoning.

First you can't call me son because I'm not your son. Secondly this is not someone else calling Hilary Clinton a wife and mother. She described herself that way in her own bio!! What's so difficult for you to understand that she has a right to do so. Thirdly, enough of the personal attacks, I do know the things I stand for and they inform my opinions daily, if I took exception to Obama's sodomy as described in the thread I commented on, does that then mean he must be a bad human being in every aspect of his life? I've seen a lot of humans to know that nobody is completely bad or good so I've learnt to judge matters as they've been presented in the case at hand. I've had cause to praise chimamanda on other matters just as I totally condemn what she did in this matter, yeah, I condemned Obama's sodomy but I had reason to support him against Hilary in the dems2008 primary and against McCain and Romney in the general elections and the same Clinton I'm defending now, I've also had cause to condemn over many other issues. I don't pre judge people before hearing their case because of pre conceived notions I have about them, something you clearly have a problem doing. Funny you went to my former posts to pick out things. I made that comment in reaction to the thread I made the comment on. If you read the story on that thread, you would know what I was reacting to. What you're doing is called the fallacy of argumentum ad hominem. You don't have any superior argument against my position so you chose to attack my person as if that invalidates the point I made. Maybe I should also go to your former posts and start digging for things to use to attack u also but it's totally unnecessary. There is no rule or exception as to how anyone chooses to describe themselves on their personal SM bio, it's their choice!! and you have to respect that. If I went to chimamanda's personal bio and started criticizing her for descriptions that don't tally with my personal views, how would she appreciate my invasion of her personal space? I gave you an example of Obama's bio because you seemed to be convinced that the only reason Hilary Clinton could have chosen to describe herself as a wife and mother was because of misogyny!! Never mind that Hilary Clinton herself has perhaps done more to advance the cause of women's rights and emancipation than any other person in the US today, she must be pilloried for having the nerve to be proud of her achievement as a good mother to her daughter and good wife to her husband. If Hilary Clinton had elevated her other achievements above her personal relationship with her family, chimamanda would have praised her as a feminist hero right? Because family should only be important to backward, uneducated women right? You have no right to be an accomplished woman and still be a good wife and mother right? Unless you're saying that the real goal of feminism is to downplay and undermine the importance of family then I don't see why a feminist should pick offence at another accomplished woman for acknowledging her roles as a mother and wife

i agree for a simple reason; yes to my family i may be known as husband/father, but that is not how I am presented to the world. No one who goes into a meeting, or a social gathering is introduced as husband/father. introductions are tied to hierarchical positions and social standing.

there is no social standing in being a husband or father, as most males are in these roles. unfortunately though, the more backward/misognyistic the society, the more standing is assigned to being a wife/mother, a role that most women are also in.

i am much more than a husband/father - and women are also much more than wife/mother. if a persons sole or most notable purpose in life is to marry and bear children, then that is a real problem ; and anyone supporting that is not much better than the saudi's they would be vilifying on other threads

It's her personal space, she's free to describe herself the way she wants to Ok. Have you seen Obama's bio? He describes himself as dad and husband first before anything else. Is Obama also a victim of misogyny? Gosh!! What gives you the impression that you have the right to invade people's personal spaces and dictate to them how they should describe themselves and even have the nerve to tell them you are "upset" with them because their description of themselves does not tally with your own convoluted view on things?
