JX7: Messi: Man City and PSG are Champions League favourites

Lionel Messi believes Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the strongest teams in Europe this season and the favourites to win the Champions League.

Led by Messi's former coach Pep Guardiola, City are sailing at the top of the Premier League with 34 points, eight more than nearest rivals Manchester United, while they have a perfect record in Europe.

PSG are also five wins from five games in the premier club competition and are looking strong at the top of Ligue 1 with Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

Messi sees those two as the biggest dangers to Barcelona's hopes of winning the Champions League this season.

"City is one of the strongest teams at the moment together with PSG," he told Marca.

"So far, they have been the two teams that have shown themselves to be favourites, but this is a very long and tough competition."

"I never rule out Real Madrid because although they're not having the results that everyone expects, I have no doubt that in the end they will be fighting for everything, as they do every year."

Barcelona Duo Ruled Out for 3-5 Weeks Following Injuries in Champions League Tie
Ben Davies
01 NOV 2017
Barcelona have confirmed that both Sergi Roberto and Andre Gomes will be out of action for roughly 3-5 weeks following injuries picked up in the Blaugrana's 0-0 draw with Olympiacos on Tuesday night.

The Catalans were left frustrated on Tuesday evening, having failed to get the better of goalkeeper Silvio Proto - denying Lionel Messi five times, while Luis Suarez came the closest to breaking the deadlock with an effort striking the bar.

— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) November 1, 2017
However, the news gets worse for the Blaugrana following club medics' analyses of both Gomes and Roberto - the latter being forced off with a hamstring complaint before half time, with Gomes suffering a thigh injury towards the end of the match.

"The FC Barcelona medical services have confirmed that Sergi Roberto and André Gomes will be out of action for between 3-5 weeks." A statement reads on the club's official website.

"Tests have confirmed that he has a hamstring strain in his right leg and will be out for around five weeks.

"(Andre Gomes) picked up a thigh injury in his right leg which means he will be out of action for around 3-4 weeks."

The two players add to Ernesto Valverde's unwanted injury list. Both Ousmane Dembele and Rafinha remain long term absentees for the Catalan club, while Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan are still yet to return to the fold.

Barcelona's draw in Greece means that the Spanish league leaders are still yet to confirm there place in the knockout stages of the Champions League - with Sporting CP and Juventus still in contention for a spot.

Ernesto Valverde and his side will be looking to stretch their unbeaten start to nine league matches at the Camp Nou (8.45pm CET), and they're doing so against a side locked to the bottom of the table

The two sides that meet at the Camp Nou on Saturday at 8.45pm CET couldn’t be going into the game in more contrasting situations. It’s first against last as unbeaten Barça look to build on their four-point lead at the top of table, while Málaga are still looking for their first win.
Team news★
Ernesto Valverde will not be able to count on Dembélé, Rafinha and Jordi Alba because of injury. Arda, Aleix Vidal and Vermaelen were not picked on this occasion, meaning the 18 players in the squad are as follows: Ter Stegen, Semedo, Piqué, Rakitic, Sergio, Denis Suárez, A. Iniesta, Suárez, Messi, Cillessen, Mascherano, Alcácer, Paulinho, Deulofeu, Digne, S. Roberto, André Gomes and Umtiti.
Though he still has a number of injuries to contend with himself, Michel has 20 players for the trip to Catalonia. They are: Luis Hernández, Rolón, Juankar, Adrián, Borja, Juanpi, Chory, Cifuentes, Cengo, Peñaranda, Rosales, Cecchini, Keko, Baysse, M. Torres, D. Nolan, Andrés Prieto, Álex Robles, Mula and Kellyann.
Coaches’ viewpoints★
Despite the teams being at opposite ends of the table, Valverde remained cautious in his pre-match press conference saying that “Málaga have done well here with various coaches and that is something we have to analyse. Our intention is to win everything as always.”
Meanwhile, Málaga boss Michel doesn’t think he is on a mission impossible, commenting that "we need to play more than our best to get something out of this game. But we will believe we can win until the reality makes us change our mind. But I do think we have a chance, as does any team that comes to the Camp Nou".
Form guide★
High flying Barça are enjoying one of their best ever starts to a league season. Last Saturday, Atlético Madrid were the first team to manage to take points off the blaugrana, while the midweek victory over Olympiacos maintained their 100 per cent record Champions League.
Meanwhile, bottom-placed Málaga have never before been winless after eight games. The best they have managed was a 3-3 draw with Athletic while their away form so far consists of four straight defeats and not one goal scored.
History★
On visits to the Camp Nou, Málaga have been on the wrong end of four or more goals no fewer than seven times since the turn of the century.
But the last three seasons have brought about a curious change in fortune. The ‘anchovies’ picked up a surprise 1-0 victory in 2014/15 and last year battled their way to a 0-0 draw. The season in between produced a narrow 1-0 win for the Catalans, Thomas Vermaelen scoring the solitary goal.

'Family of five' - Messi announces third child with Antonella Roccuzzo

Lionel Messi is to become a father for the third time, the Barcelona star's wife Antonella Roccuzzo has announced.

The pair, who have been together since childhood and got married in their hometown Rosario in Argentina in June, confirmed on Instagram that they will welcome a new member into the family.

Roccuzzo posted a picture of the couple and two sons Thiago, four, and Mateo, two, touching her stomach, with the caption "Family of five".

It will likely mean a new tattoo to the 30-year-old attacker, who already has tributes to Mateo and Thiago and also sports both of their names on his boots.

The news will come as a big boost for Messi, who saw his Barcelona team draw 1-1 with Atletico Madrid the day before the announcement was made.
