Olaudah Equiano born around 1745 but died on 31 March 1797,known in his lifetime as Gustavus Vassa, was a writer and abolitionist from the Igbo region of southeastern Nigeria. Enslaved as a child, he was taken to the Caribbean and sold as a slave to a captain in the Royal Navy, and later to a Quaker trader. Eventually, he earned his own freedom in 1766 by intelligent trading and careful savings. According to his memoir, Equiano recounted an incident when an attempted kidnapping of children was foiled by adults in his Igbo village, Isseke (present-day Imo State), in the southeastern part of present-day Nigeria. When he was around the age of eleven, he and his sister were left alone to look after their family premises – as was common when adults went out of the house to work. They were both kidnapped and taken far away from their hometown of Essaka, separated and sold to slave traders. After changing ownership several times, Equiano met his sister again, but they were separated once more, and he was taken across a large river to the coast, where he was held by European slave traders. He was transported with 244 other enslaved Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to Barbados in the West Indies. He and a few other slaves were sent further away to the British colony of Virginia. Literary scholar Vincent Carretta argued in his 2005 biography of Equiano that the activist could have been born in colonial South Carolina rather than Africa based on his discovery of a 1759 parish baptismal record that lists Equiano’s place of birth as Carolina and a 1773 ship’s muster that indicates South Carolina. Carretta’s conclusion is disputed by other scholars who believe the weight of evidence supports Equiano’s account of coming from Africa. On Sunday May 31 :- His last journey home commenced when, his body arrived the National Stadium through the Oworonshoki-Oshodi-Apapa expressway. It was a wet day but that did not stop the crowd who were eager to see and even feel AWO. While the body was lying in state and the crowd were eager to see the body the organisers agreed that the best option was that the pall bearers should carry the casket into the open, from its covered podium. This was done on two occasions and even with that the crowd were just not satisfied and not happy as they wanted to see and feel his body, so they started singing, All we are saying gives us Awo. wife Mrs. Hannah Idowu had to come out to acknowledge the cheers of the demanding crowd and plead with them to bear, with them since it was raining. On Friday, June 5:- his body arrived Ibadan, probably to show respect that his political life started there. Ibadan received his body with salutes from their Dane-guns and shouts of Awo! The crowd was massive like never seen before; one will think that the entire Ibadan people left their homes for that honour. Everyone that has eyes, even if crippled was there to say good bye to Awo. Roof tops, balconies and tree tops were occupied. It was estimated that the crowd was over 4,000 on the street and most of the invited dignitaries and family members were dressed in white. There was a commendation service held in his honour at the liberty stadium in Ibadan, with about 50,000 people in attendance. After the stadium, his body was received inside the church, by six member of the Wesley Group, (Awo was a life patron), the church sang. For all the saints who from their labours rest; as their processional hymn. Bishop E. A. Idowu of Lagos Cathedral read the scripture from Ecclesiastical Chapter 44 verse 1-4,7,11-15, during the fifty minutes commendation service. Between 3.00 ; 3.10 p.m., there was a light shower of rain while, the Bishop of the Ibadan Methodist Diocese; Bishop T.T Solaru, was giving his sermon. At the Ibadan event, there were about 1000 policemen to help control the crowd. The body was taken to his former office as Premier in the parliament building in Agodi, were a special parliamentary session was held in his honour with a funeral oration by the state Governor Colonel Adetunji Olurin, who addressed him as the prophetic Jeremiah of Africa. On Saturday, June 6th, the body left Lagos for the final journey to Ikenne where it lay in state. In Ikenne, mourners peacefully filled past his body. The Rosicrucian Order (AMORC) performed their funeral rites on him, the members filed in, wearing bishop-like robes, walked round the body. Their leader Kenneth U. Idiodi, Grand Regional Administrator and President of the Rosicrucian Order in his funeral citation explained that they believe in life after death. They presented to Mrs Awo her husband apron of life. In all Awo had 14 orations. Relaxed as if he was sleeping and smiling, he was laid in the golden casket and was placed in the monologue. As his body was carried into the church, it was received with a rendition of one of his favourite tunes: All hail the Power of Jesus Read More https://www.hiztorybox.com.ng/detailed-account-on-how-pa-awolowo-was-buried/ |

After while, peace was restored as the Presiding priest of the day took the ground to administer the sermon of peace and encouragement to the bereaved family of Ngoforo and few people around the burial ceremony. At exactly 12:05; family, siblings, relatives and friends were allowed to go in to see Gloria's corpse for the last time before she will be buried. This really broke down all the people present in tears and agony. Her parents especially her father couldn't control himself as he cried profusely as a little baby until he was helped to leave the scene. At last, she was brought outside ready for her journey into the mother earth. Then the priest offered the last prayer of the saints for the Late Gloria before her final burial. Just in time to take her to the graveside; There was an announcement that not all members of the bereaved family members will be allowed to go witness the final burial. This made every member of Ngoforo family present to forced their way to the graveside to witness the final burial of their daughter after resisting the security men obstructions. SOMETHING HAPPENED. Something spectacular happened at the graveside before Gloria was to be buried. It happened that throughout the 2 hours or more; both the arrival of Ngoforo family and the burial service that held at Mgbeodimma's company. Her husband, Mr Samuel Mgbeodimma didn't come out to either greet his law on their arrival or sympathize with them as well. Rather both his father and himself were found missing during the burial service. The only time,he(Mr Samuel Mgbeodimma) was seen outside was when the corpse of Gloria was carried to her graveside. Mr Samuel Mgbeodimma was seen walking done to her graveside; escorted by heavily armed security guards to her grave side to perform the final "ASH TO ASH" rite. This particular expression sparkled off fight right at the spot of Gloria's graveside. This incident apparently made Gloria's family members to started n uproar;demanding answers to so many unanswered questions surrounding her death. In the midst of the confusion, he immediately did his "ASH TO ASH" rite to his wife; and he left the graveside with his heavily armed security guards without waiting a second longer to witness the rest of the burial. After everything have taken place at Gloria's graveside. Gloria's father took his spot and made painful declaration over the murderers of his first daughter. Making utterances that the 12th generation of mgbeodiamma family wont see any glory;since they took away his daughter,Gloria Mgbeodimma (Nee Ngoforo) ultimately. And the grave was covered. Important Things Noted During The Burial • The initial welcome reception given to the bereaved family of Ngoforo was very cool and unwelcoming. • Mr Samuel Mgbeodimma didn’t show up to meet with his in law when they arrived or during the time was burial service was going on. • There were presence of heavily armed security guards at the venue;they also escorted the husband around. • None of Mr Samuel Mgbeodimma siblings or parents were present at the premises during the burial service. • The husband was escorted outside by these heavily armed security guards; only seen outside during the time he wanted to give "DUST TO DUST at the graveside. • Gloria was found in her own pool of blood in her husband's parlor in July 17th,2018. • Mrs Gloria was reported pregnant before she died. • She was ready for NYSC before she died • She dies on Saturday 16th June 2018 • Mrs Gloria was found in her own pool of blood with a lot marks stating that her death was manipulated. Isaiah Kehinde Dairo was a notable Nigerian Jùjú musician. Who was born 1930 in the town of Offa, located in present-day Kwara State; his family was originally from Ijebu-Ijesa before migrating to Offa. He attended a Christian Missionary primary school in Offa, however, he later quit his studies due to a lean year in his family’s finances. He left Offa and traveled to Ijebu-Ijesa where he chose to work as a barber. On his journey, he took along with him a drum built by his father when he was seven years old. By the time he was residing in Ijebu Ijesa, he was already an avid fan of drumming. When he was unoccupied with work, he spent time listening to the early pioneers of jùjú music in the area and experimented with drumming. His interest in jùjú music increased over time, and in 1942, he joined a band led by Taiwo Igese but within a few years, the band broke up. In 1948, he went to Ede, a town in present-day Osun State where he started work there as a pedestrian cloth trader and played music with a local group on the side. One day, while his boss was away traveling, I.K. Dairo decided to join his fellow friends to play at a local ceremony, unknowing to him, his boss was coming back that same day, the boss was furious with the act and he was relieved of his job as a result. IK Dairo later pursued various manual tasks after his firing and was able to save enough money to move to Ibadan, where Daniel Ojoge, a pioneer Jùjú musician usually played. He got a break to join a band with Daniel Ojoge and played for a brief period of time before returning to Ijebu-Ijesa, most of the gigs he plays with Ojoge’s band were at nights. Musical rise I.K. Dairo’s musical career entered the fast lane when he founded a ten piece band called the Morning Star Orchestra in 1957. In 1960, during the celebration of Nigeria’s independence, the band was called on to play at a party hosted by a popular Ibadan based lawyer and politician Chief D O A Oguntoye. With a lot of prominent Yoruba patrons at the venue, I.K. Dairo showcased his style of jùjú music and earned attention and admiration from other Yoruba patrons present, many of whom later invited him to gigs during cultural celebrations or just lavish parties. In the early 1960s, he changed the band’s name to Blue Spots and he also won a competition televised in Western Nigeria to showcase the various talents in jùjú music. During the period, he was able to form his own record label in collaboration with Haruna Ishola and achieved critical and popular acclaim and fame. Nigeria has so many antecedents and precolonial realms. Before the modern era, Nigeria was divided into several ethnic groups, such as Yoruba, Nri (Igbo), Benin, Hausa, and Nupe. But the one that catches my attention is the Kingdom of Nri (also known as Igbo). The political Nri kingdom existed from 948 to 1911, when British troops forced them to end their political power. But cultures still exist in the country of Nigeria. Nri had many cultures and great leaders. The Nri Kingdom was located in the West Africa region; now it is the region of Nigeria. The formation of the Nri Kingdom dates back to the ninth century by the founder of Nri and Igbo; people became the center of Igbo cultures. After the death of the founder, at the end of the Eri period, the first king of the Nri period, ikfikuánim, began his reign in 1043. The capital, Nri, was Igbo-Ukwu. His official language was Igbo. Nri’s main religion was Odinani. Odinani aims to understand his world (called “Uwa”) and has gods (called “Chukwu”). He had a regime of elective monarchy. Nri had Manillas as money. The handles are bronze, copper or sometimes gold bracelets. The kingdom of Nri was a theocratic state. The Eze Nri was a rule endowed with mystical powers. Eze Nri had no military power, so, in common sense, Eze Nri was like a leader instead of a king. By changing position, Eze Nri was chosen by a group of people who observed the man with supernatural power. Eze Nri was quoted as a divine ruler. The spiritual and political power of Nri was called Ikenga. The first Eze Nri (the founder in the Eri period) was Eze Eri. Read More https://www.hiztorybox.com.ng/the-nri-kingdom-in-nigeria/

Queen Iden, the beloved wife of Oba Ewakpe the great; was the pride of femine gender. In her days as a Benin Royal Queen who stood behind her husband in a turbulent period. And to be able to brace up to the challenges the king found himself when the Benins revolted against Oba Ewuakpe was no small fear. Ewuakpe became king in the ancient kingdom in about 1700 A.D. and was the 26th monarch of the hereditary title of Benin dynasty. He reigned for about 12 years which was characterized with series of set backs during the early period to the extent that all subjects in the kingdom revolted against him. The fundamental cause of grouse was to protest against the monarche high handedness and his flagrant disrespect of human lives which culminated in the mass killing of his subjects at Uselu during the funeral of his demised mother Queen Ewebonoza in about 17.15 A.D when it became apparent that the elders and the citizens of the Kingdom could no longer accommodate the excesses of the King they were compelled to sever their disreputable connections. This uprising also affected all his wives (Iloi) the royal slaves (ovien) and other palace attendants. Read More https://www.hiztorybox.com.ng/queen-of-iden-of-edo/ |
