The ousted Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ondo State, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, has congratulated the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who has won 14 out of the 17 Local Government Areas already announced.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the results of 17 out of 18 local governments. While Akeredolu has so far garnered 213,686 votes, the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has received 121,471, a gap which observers believe is unassailable.

Even though INEC has not yet declared Akeredolu as the governor-elect, Ibrahim, in a statement, congratulated Akeredolu.

He said, “My dear egbon. Congratulations. I have computed the results sent to me from 2907 wards by my party agents across Ondo State. It shows you are leading with unrecoverable margin. I congratulate you as governor-elect of our lovely state. I will advise you quickly maintain distance from Mimiko if you want to succeed.

“I have no doubt that you will urgently create hope for our people; kindly do whatever you can to assist your lovely civil servants. I saw poverty in those villages I visited during campaign. Please kindly assist traditional rulers as much as you can.”

I'm not a fan of the man, but you greatly underestimate how much weight he pulls. He has helped a lot of people up the ladder, is liberal and more nationalistic in his approach with great tolerance.

I believe that only the Northwesterners will vote against him when it comes down to it. There is a reason why they do everything to ensure that he does not get to that point where the masses decide. The Northwesterners, who regard themselves more Muslim than even Saudi Arabia will not vote for him because they do not consider him Muslim enough. This is not an issue of acceptance; rather, it is that of intolerance and sheer hypocrisy.

The federal government of Nigeria is taking moves to shut down MMM operations in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2016 Lagos International Trade Fair, the managing director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, said that regulators have set up a committee to see the end of the nefarious activities of the ‘fraudsters’ across the country.



“I wish to sound a word of caution to members of the public on the activities of illegal fund managers, otherwise known as Wonder Banks. It is worrisome to note that despite repeated advice, many unsuspecting members of the public are still falling victims to the mouth-watering interest being offered by these illegal fund managers.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to patronise only banking institutions that display the NDIC sticker: “Insured by NDIC” in their banking halls or entrances. However, the regulatory authorities have set up an inter-agency committee under the Financial Services Regulatory Coordinating Committee(FRSCC) to stem the nefarious activities of these fraudster across the nation”.
