Politics › India To Invest $5bn In Nigeria by hmuhammad(op): 4:54am On Sep 28, 2016 |
President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the proposed investment of $5billion in the Nigerian economy by the business delegation that accompanied the Vice President of India, noting that India had already invested $10 billion in the economy.
According to a statement by his senior special assistant on media, Garba Shehu, President Buhari said Nigeria will continue to expand its relationship with India in the areas of health, education, agriculture, technology and trade.
Receiving the Indian Vice President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, at the State House, President Buhari said Nigeria had over the years benefited from the cooperation of the Asian country in trade and investment, agriculture, technology and the fight against terrorism.
President Buhari said Nigeria would emulate the Asian country’s agricultural model and capacity to feed its one billion population, and also export to other countries, describing the country as “sustainable and prosperous’’.
The President noted that Nigeria would continue to support the reform of the United Nations Security Council, pointing out that it was unfair on the rest of the world for five countries to exercise power of ‘‘yes or no’’ in the UN.
In his remarks, the Indian Vice President said his country, which is the leading buyer of Nigeria’s crude oil, will increase its purchase of the commodity in addition to natural gas.
According to him, the relationship between Nigeria and India is near perfect as both countries ‘‘have nothing to quarrel about’’. http://leadership.ng/business/552297/india-to-invest-5bn-in-nigeria

Business › Thousands Of Zimbabweans Lose Money As MMM Crashes by hmuhammad(op): 8:46am On Sep 26, 2016 |
THOUSANDS of people, among them civil servants and vendors, have lost thousands of dollars to fraudulent online pyramid scheme MMM Global Zimbabwe after it collapsed recently. The social financial network, which relied on an accelerating number of new members to pay off the old, abruptly terminated its services last week leaving participants stranded.
This comes as Econet’s mobile financial service platform, EcoCash yesterday distanced itself from the pyramid scheme. Participants claimed they were using EcoCash for their transactions.
Zimbabweans have in the past months been joining the online investment scheme in droves in a bid “to get rich quickly”. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe warned people that the scheme was fraudulent and there was no legal recourse in the event they lost their money.
The central bank said MMM, which advertises its operations through a website and recruiting agents, was not a registered or regulated entity. EcoCash yesterday said: “We have noted that some of these pyramid schemes are allegedly advertising in a manner that suggests that the Ecocash facility is a medium for prospective members to deposit their money. This is not correct.
“We advise our valued customers and all stakeholders that Ecocash is a licensed mobile payment platform that enables customers to make financial transactions such as sending money, buying prepaid airtime as well as paying for goods and services within the confines of the law of Zimbabwe. EcoCash promotes safe and legal transactions but will not be held liable for any losses arising from the use of EcoCash to engage in illegal activities such as Ponzi schemes.”
The scheme advertises itself as a mutual aid fund under which recruited members contribute money to assist others and are promised investment returns of 30 percent per month. Some of the people left counting their losses told The Herald that they received emails that the scheme had been suspended until September 15.
“All along things were moving in the right direction and we now have nowhere to claim our investments,” said Mr Tinashe Muza of Harare.
“When we started putting our funds in the scheme one could get assistance within seven days but things later changed to 14 days and when we were shut out the waiting period was 21 days. What it simply means is that the number of people in need of help has outnumbered the number of people joining. Right now we have nowhere to get our money which we invested.”
MMM stands for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox and takes its name from its founder, Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi of Russia. He founded MMM in 1989 and the scheme was declared bankrupt three years later leading to the disappearance of Mavrodi until his arrest in 2003.
Another victim, Mrs Rosemary Mawonde said: “We never thought the scheme would end this way as we believed that by using EcoCash to do the transactions, things were in order. I am surprised that EcoCash is also distancing itself from the scheme and it is clear that I will never recover the $300 that I invested.”
While some people who were skeptical about the scheme started with small amounts, it is believed some poured in thousands of dollars anticipating higher returns. The RBZ said the schemes were fraudulent as existing investors were ‘paid money not from genuine market investment of their funds, but from contributions made by new investors, until a point when the scheme can no longer attract new investors,”
“The participants are made aware that they make their money by recruiting new members who in turn must recruit more members,” warned the Central Bank. http://iharare.co.zw/thousands-of-zimbabweans-lose-money-as-mmm-crashes/ |

Crime › Re: Another Nigerian Drug Mule Arrested In Hong Kong by hmuhammad(m): 6:33am On Sep 14, 2016 |
winj: Dear Fr Wotherspoon,
Regarding the Nigerian drug mules arrested frequently in Hong Kong, this is due to the mentality of a particular Nigerian ethnic group called IGBO.
Ignorance, lack of information and awareness by these mules, and their handlers is not not helping. It is unfair to use the term Nigerians since the country has several hundred ethnic groups of which ONLY one is the predominant culprit in this repugnant crime.
In order to get the information out, concentrate all effort on the right people, get to the root of the problem, properly inform the public and global law enforcement and especially prevent the constant harassment of innocent Nigerians, we must identify the group involved in this and take steps to put a stop to this tragedy.
After the Nigerian civil war, many IGBO people still blame Nigeria for their demise and while doing so continue to fight for cessation and independence from Nigeria. Many IGBO people consider criminal activities that tarnish the image of Nigeria as payback for the civil war. A “get rich or die trying mentality” among many has also not helped the situation, IGBO people are very competitive within themselves and take lack of wealth very seriously. The determination to obtain wealth and show it in their communities has led to a proliferation of IGBO crimes - using Nigerian passports as cover!
IGBO people consider themselves one of the most successful people in Nigeria, they are well travelled and engage in global commerce in many parts of the world but on closer look you will find that for several decades IGBO people benefitted from crimes ranging from Drug trafficking to importing contraband goods and toxic waste into Nigeria. If the rewards are high they will engage in it. Several decades ago many Asian, South American, European and North American countries did not have adequate law enforcement tools to detects drugs, contraband and dangerous goods, IGBO people used that opportunity to seriously enrich themselves, it is not uncommon to find legitimate well known IGBO businessmen, politicians and community leaders who were previously engaged in illicit trade.
As many countries introduced sophisticated detection devices and better policing, the number of IGBO people arrested globally spiralled, many drug barons and illegal businessmen still do not understand the impact of sending drug mules and couriers around the globe. Many of these IGBO drug dealers and criminals are simply referred to in the international community as NIGERIANS!
The impact on innocent Nigerian travellers, tourists, students and businessmen is catastrophic and humiliating as they are maltreated, detained and abused for no other reason but the fact they carry the same passports as IGBO criminals.
In one country alone, Indonesia, over 2 Thousand (yes 2000) IGBO People have been executed for drug trafficking without the Nigerian government knowing much about it. Many IGBO people have been executed, buried or cremated with aliases and in secret without relatives, Nigerian diplomatic missions and government made aware. The information was well guarded by the IGBO crime communities in these places and organisations that represent them. Only when the death rate spiralled to alarming numbers did these communities alert the Nigerian Government and the media for help.
Recently, relatives and friends of 21 IGBO people in Indonesia, who have been condemned to death, marched to the Indonesian Embassy in Lagos to protest the death of the condemned Nigerians. According to them, about 2008 Nigerians (IGBO people) were executed in Indonesia with another 21 still on death row. They urged the Federal Government to intervene urgently to save the lives of these drug dealers.
At a press conference by the head of the Nigerian drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA), the chairman said the majority of drugs dealers arrested in Nigeria and aboard happen to come from an IGBO state, Anambra. IGBO involvement in the drugs trade while using Nigerian passports have started to be noticed by foreign law enforcement with a recent pronouncement by a Thai police officer that IGBO people are a curse to Africa!
The current Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari once introduced the death penalty for drug traffickers. That law has since been changed but may have to be revisited to prevent IGBO people continue this evil trade!

xharder: i guess the coward government/DSS/Dullard Bubu succumb to IPOB's threat of burning Nigerian's flag worldwide, which would have been an embarrassment not just to Nigeria but also a dent on our foreign image diplomatically and economically speaking.
They know igbos are emotional and passionate about biafra and burning the biafran flag on the 1st of october being Nigeria's dependence day(which is meant to be a day of unity) is not only irresponsible of the Nigerian Government and a misplacement of priorities. it also expose the Nigerian government as being confused as to how to handle the biafra question. Burning biafran flag would serve to draw more sympathy to biafra because it would be seen as a spite on the igbos and also an insult to the memories of those who fought the war to make Nigeria remain one..
i trust the igbos/IPOB on this, the backlash that would result from that irresponsible decision would be unbearable....just imagine igbos worldwide burning Nigerian flag and flooding the social media with pictures of burning Nigerian flag world wide,
just imagine what other nations would think of nigeria, kenya Vs Nigeria twitter fight was a lesson.. we where so divided to fight the kenyans. yes there is economic hardship but Nigerians have been know to put such behind them and fight together in unity against foreign nationals who throw shades at Nigeria on social media for whatever reason(hence the popular slogan "ONLY NIGERIANS HAVE THE RIGHT TO INSULT NIGERIA" .. infact it was a kenya Vs yoruba fight because most igbo where on the fence because they could defend the Zoo.
