Travel / Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening Pt 2 by holalekan: 6:59pm On Jul 28, 2018
Dear AbujaNIV,
I'd applied to renew my last B1/B2 visa which expired under 12months ago.I'd travelled on the expired visa for a conference back then in Miami&I didn't overstay, neither was I in breach of any immigration regulations.I thought I'd take advantage of the courtesy by U.S INA and renew via the Dropbox, however after about 15 working days since submission I received an email inviting me for a follow up interview&stating a denial under section 221g with an attachment form with instructions on what steps to take.On the attached form were boxes listing certain requirements of which the only requirement that was ticked is the request to attend an interview. Also bearing in mind that the tracker still shows Administrative Processing online, and the conference I intend to attend will hold between 28th&30th of August.
Here goes my questions
1.How do I know what documents to attend the interview with as I'm unsure of what information must be provided?Employment contract, bank statements etc?If these documents are rarely examined and it's not been specified which to come with, what then do I go with?
2.Should I decide to schedule an appointment to still be able to attend the conference at the end of August, may I request for an expedited interview(which was what I got for my first visa)?
3.If my request for expedited interview isn't approved, may I still attend the interview to apply for a visa to visit the U.S for leisure other than the initial conference purpose which would have already taken place by that time?
4.Am I required to pay another application fee?As I tried to do so it didn't accept the receipt number.
5.Do I need a new DS160 form or all I need is just schedule and attend interview?
6.Is there any other thing that applies to this situation that may be helpful to know about?since I can't even understand why it wasn't even approved in the first place.

NB:If this appears on another forum,I'm only trying to get the appropriate thread to get prompt answers to my questions as I've been searching all day and can't find the exact one.
Thanks in anticipation of some good feedback.

Hi
Like the VO always emphasize, the visa isn't a game of chance, there are requirements you may have to meet to qualify.Based on my experience, you'll have to honestly demonstrate how you're able to finance your trip since you currently do not have a job. Also whoever is sponsoring the trip must demonstrate how it makes sense to send you on a short visit in an expensive country so.Furthermore what are your ties here in Nigeria that will ensure that you come back to Nigeria after your short visit in the U.S.Just be honest and open and be ready to defend whatever is in your application
Nelson2k:
Good morning guys, am new here! I have my US interview on the 10th of September!

Am not employed ( thou I explained in the ds160 form that I just finished my Nysc and still waiting for employment) and still single, my uncle is sending invitation for my b1/b2, my mum is paying for the trip

I also paid for my tours like Atlanta fc football match tickets and Atlanta gosht tour ticket

Pls what’s my chances?

Thanks so much for taking your time to advise.
puffmama:
1. I would advise you to go with all the documents you would have taken as if you were going for your first interview including your bank statement and anything to show you attended the conference the first time, if you were issued a certificate of participation, go with it. iwas asked if i had my bank statement with me when i went for my interview after i got the 221g letter, fortunately, i had it with me and the consularofficer checked it. i was not even asked for any documents at all at my very first visa interview and it was issued .

2. You may but the last time i attempted to do that i was not succesful as my purpose of visit then didnt qualify for an expedite interview, if it were for medical reasons or school resumption, it may have been approved, but you may wish to try, nothing wrong in that.

3. Yes you can, you may wish to fill another form, just ensure the number is same as the one on the appointment slip. if its a different number, go with the two to be on the safe side.

4. You are not required, your visa fees is valid for one year from the date your 221G letter was issued.

5. sometimes some people are randomly picked but i have noticed of late that a lot of people that did drop box especially those that spent longer than 3 weeks to a month were called for an interview to explain their purpose of their visit and evidence of payment of bills especially for those that went for child birth.

i wish you the best

This is just a quick note to appreciate everyone who's taken their time to share their experiences during their visa application(whether the outcome was good or bad). I learnt so much from this forum on the several occasions that I've had to apply for either the UK or US Visa.I'm here to pour back into the wells of knowledge i drew from before my applications were submitted.
I think If I'd visited this forum before I applied for my first UK Visa which was refused,I'd have saved myself a lot of troubles from just a very flimsy error that could have been avoided.I'd just go straight to the point and share my most recent application for a U.S visa for which I attended an interview today and I'm expected to pick up my approved Visa next week.
I was selected for a prestigious training by a project founded by a former U.S vice president. The invitation letter came through almost three months ago.I made an application on the 23rd of Aug and on paying for the visa and checking the earliest interview date,I realized the closest date I'd get would be Nov 9th 2015, a date by which the training would have been completed(training is to hold between 28-30th Sept). I was quite worried but I put myself together and carefully drafted a letter requesting for an expedited interview explaining that the information I got form the department of state website, was what I relied on and allowed a month to apply for my visa.Luckily and through God's favor, the request was granted within 24hours.I got an interview date for the 9th Sept.
Now to the burden of proof for the supporting documents,I was worried I may likely not be granted but I maintained a high level of confidence and clarity.
On the morning of the interview,I got there(ABUJA US Embassy) as early as possible, got in the queue and carefully and prayerfully moved along till I could sit and hear the conversations from the other applicants ahead.I noticed a particular VO who wasn't really smiling and has rejected couple of folks,I made up my mind not to go to his counter once they call for next applicant, other ladies after him,I assumed will be friendly and may likely not give me a tough time, having granted some people their visas.
As God would have it the same VO that I dreaded and was trying to avoid was the one who called for the next applicant and I found myself right in front of him.
I remembered all I've read and all I've heard and other stuffs I've been told so I charged up my confidence and became really bold and here goes the conversation
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
VO: Can you pass your passport
Me:Sure, would you like to see this(confirmation page that bears the marker pen) too
VO:Yes please
Me:Passed both passport and the confirmation page(with my folder containing all my supporting docs still closed)
VO:So why are you going to the US
Me:To attend xyz conference(direct and brief answer)
VO:Looks through the pages of my passport(sees my UK visa probably types on his computer for some seconds and asks),how many times have you visited the UK
Me: answered him looking straight into his eyes
VO:Types into his computer again, how much do you earn a month
Me: 250K I said
VO:How long will you be staying in the U.S
Me:Just 3 days I told him
V.O: Types for a while and asked, are you married?
Me:No but in a relationship
VO: Passed me a white paper and mumbled some words and retained my passport,he didn't ask for any single doc despite all the docs that were in my folder.
I didn't know what those words were, didn't even understand the white paper but I understood from common sense that once your passport is retained your visa will likely be issued.
Now to God be the glory because I'm not sure I deserve it but yet he favored me.
One thing to note is whatever you claim to be or you are going to do in your application should be what you know in and out, don't claim to be what you can't defend.
This is because a number of people that were rejected that I was able to hear their conversations,I heard and saw how some were stammering or not able to explain what they've stated in their applications. So If you claim to be a Data analyst in a certain organization,be sure you know what your daily duties as a data analyst should be,don't get their and mumble words. If you claim you've been to Belgium or Spain in the past make sure you know the cities you visited in those countries and be ready to explain what you visited those countries for.
Goodluck to everyone else looking to apply soon and should you need any explanation or guidance on completing or drafting letters, don't hesitate to contact N0:0 kobo

Vicjustice:
I don't think your narrated circumstances can boost your chance.
Unfortunately, as you are not legally married, your rights to family reunion with the woman and the child is limited especially as you have not shown any obligation and responsibility to the persons concerned: Impregnating a woman is not enough ground to be granted a visa, and desiring to be there to witness the birth of the child is not enough reason for visa application.
As harsh as this may sound, (in the eyes of a visa officer) there is no difference between you and a sρerm donor

Noo!If the child isn't involved I can as well stay back in my country and get a decent job,but why would i walk away when i can take responsibility and be there to raise my child?Well if the mother is happy to relocate i'm more than willing to stay here and be there for them both.Myself and the mother are in touch and I've indicated I want to be involved in the upbringing of the child financially and morally! And I do understand my rights as a parent in future I just clarifications.

Hi justwise and everyone, please I’ve got a serious problem bothering me which I’d appreciate any effort to clarify.Last year towards the end of my master’s programme in the UK I had an affair with a UK citizen which resulted in a pregnancy.Although we weren’t both dating we couldn’t justify any reason to abort.I returned to Nigeria early this year and me and the lady have been in touch since then. She claims she loves me and would like to marry me but not sure she’s willing to come to Nigeria to live or anything. She’s due to deliver in May. I really would like to be with my child and herself from birth however the policies seem complicated these days.right now I’m confused as to what to do or apply as to be with them both as I’ve got lot of things to prove even if I’m just applying as a visitor.I would really like to be around during the birth of my child in May, does anyone know what the best thing to do in this case is.
Thanks

Hi Justwise and other nairalanders,
I was refused entry in july based on maintenance funds being in my dad's account just for 6 days instead of the 28 days,i wasnt a fan of nairaland then maybe i'd have known before submitting.
I had a delay in reapplying due to personal problems and i had to open a personal account with the required amount as stated in my refusal letter,i waited till the 28th day which was 9th september before applying,d school resumed on the 12thsept and d initial last day of registration is 30th sept,i'd requested for extension which just came today 14th sept and was given till 14th oct, this came after i'd submitted my visa application on the 9th.
I was just wondering if there's much to worry about again although i've handed my situation over to God.
I submitted in Abuja and there are rumours that applications in abuja will now be forwarded to Lag for visa issuing, how true is that?
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa by holalekan: 3:47pm On Sep 10, 2011
Please I was wondering how long UK student visa takes lately(september submission),I was refused initially based on the fact that my maintenance funds hadn't been in the bank for 28days,so I had to open a personal account where i kept the money for 28days before applying. Now the school's last day of submission is 30th september and i applied on the 9th of september, wondering if this isn't too late?
