Ijebu-Ode-born businessman, Sola Oloko, had high hopes about investing in his state of origin. But for reasons he said he had yet to understand, attempts to make that dream come true have been met with an unexpected negative reaction from the Ogun State Government. Oloko said he got a call from a frantic worker on May 14 that everything he had built with about N35m on his 2,593sq metre land along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway had been destroyed by state government officials. Oloko was obviously depressed when he narrated how all the joy he hoped to derive in contributing to the development of his state, was turned against him. He told Saturday PUNCH that he got a summon to appear that same day (May 14, 2015) at the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning in Abeokuta, on issues concerning the land. “I was at home on May 14, when some of my workers on the land called and said a team of government officials with mobile policemen in tow came to the land and said I should appear at the Ministry of Urban and Physical Development in Abeokuta. I went early to Abeokuta the following day with my documents with the hope of resolving any issue about the land with the ministry,” he said. But while he was at the ministry, a government demolition team allegedly led by the Director- General of the Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Wale Osinowo, (who held the position until the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, dissolved his cabinet on May 25, 2015), went to the site and reduced the structures to rubble. “I was shocked when I was told that the place was being demolished. How could that happen? I run as many as nine filling stations in the state as part of my contribution in investing in my state. The state government has always said there is need for investments in the state. What then have I done wrong?” he said. When our correspondent asked Oloko if he had all the required documents of his land, he promptly presented C of O and land use permit which were duly signed by the state surveyor- general. “I bought the land legally and got the certificate of occupancy and other documents which were duly signed by the surveyor-general of the state in 2010. I started construction in 2011. But work on the site was delayed because of the slow pace of the work by Bi-Courtney on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, I had to suspend the project. “I only recommenced work on the site when Julius Berger took over the construction of the road. So far, I have spent N35m on the project. When the government bulldozers came, they did not even mind that I already had massive fuel tanks buried in the site, they reduced everything in sight to rubble.” Upon his appointment as the Director-General of the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Osinowo, vowed a clampdown on land speculators. Osinowo had said at the time that plans were underway to reclaim all properties illegally acquired in different parts of the state. Oloko said his land was acquired legally because he never liked doing things in such a way that he would run foul of the law. “If the government has some clarifications to make on my land, why go behind me to demolish the place if not because this is deliberate?” he said. Saturday PUNCH learnt that no official stop- work order was issued on the property by the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning; neither were the structures marked for demolition at any point in time as stipulated by law. According to section 53 of the Nigerian Urban and Regional Planning Act where an unauthorised development is being carried out, the concerned government agency has the right to issue a stop-work order “pending the service of an enforcement notice on the owner, occupier or holder.” Section 56 of the act states further that the “control department shall give a reasonable time not exceeding 21 days within which the developer shall be required to comply” with the provisions of the stop-work order. [/media-credit] Site of the demolished filling station Oloko said this was why he believed that the demolition of his property was an action brought about by animosity towards him. According to him, destroying a multi-million naira project without taking steps stipulated by law is taking impunity too far. “Is this the change the government has been telling people to expect?” he said. However, the Ogun State Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning said it knew nothing about the demolition. Our correspondent got in touch with the Bureau of Land and Survey to find out what could be the reason the property was demolished. The spokesperson, Mr. Demola Orunbo, promised to discuss the issue with the Director-General (Osinowo). The following day when our correspondent spoke with Orunbo, he said “I don’t know what I can tell you at this time. Please go ahead and publish the report because I spoke with my DG (Osinowo) this evening and he said he knew nothing about the demolition. Several attempts have also been made to speak with Osinowo directly but he did not pick calls made to his mobile line. A text message also sent to him went unanswered. Our correspondent also contacted the immediate past Commissioner of Information in the state, Mr. Yusuff Olaniyonu, but he said he could no longer speak on a government matter since the cabinet had been dissolved. However, Oloko has said it is laughable that the officials are denying carrying out the demolition because they knew it was illegal. He said if nothing was done on the issue, he would seek legal redress as soon as possible. |
Dear Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu: The first time I heard that agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) lay siege to your home in Lagos, I wanted to pick up a phone and call you. No, I did not have your phone number, and I do not have it even now. No, I have never met you. I have no personal connection with you. I never did and do not desire one. Not because I dislike you. But mainly because we are not involved jointly or remotely in any issues. Yet we are linked. We are linked because you are a Nigerian. I am one too. We are also linked because you are a politician who will make laws and influence policies that will affect me, my family, society and Nigeria as a whole. The Yoruba word for a politician is “oselu” – one who manages the town, or society. I do not know what the equivalent word is in other Nigerian languages. The Yoruba one suffices for the purpose of this letter. It shows the significance of the matters at hand. There has been so much said about you in the news media. Like many news and information- seeking persons, I have come to know you through the media. Most recently, I read that men of the NDLEA came to apprehend you. They wanted to take you away, perhaps extradite you. It was about an existing indictment of drug dealing. whilst you were in the USA many years ago. The news is that the indictment has been pending for years, almost twenty years. The NDLEA said that you were invited to their offices and you refused to comply. They came combat-ready, and wanted to take you away by force. You locked yourself in and even threatened to commit suicide if the NDLEA agents forced their way into your rooms. I was concerned. And I am still. First of all, do not commit suicide. You know that life is sacred, and we should not take it lightly. You have been elected as Senator, one of the highest political leadership offices. In fact, in Ogun state, your home constituency, to date, you came out as the topmost elected person from your PDP political party. You were the only Senator elected on the platform of the PDP. All others came through the APC, which was in opposition at the time of the election, and has become the new governing party. You hold an elevated position. You have a major responsibility – to your constituency, to your party, to the country. If you ask me, I know many of our compatriots who will say that the NDLEA visit at this time to your house was God-sent. Your name was mired in allegations. “According to official record, Kashamu has been a target of both the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration…(also) Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)… He was further indicted by the Grand Jury in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on heroin trafficking charges, “ the NDLEA has stated. How can you shoulder the important responsibility of being a Senator with such a serious accusation? How comfortable will you be to make laws amidst allegations of law-breaking by your very self? How do we, your compatriots, explain to all those foreigners who ask whether a Nigerian Senator indeed was a wanted person for such serious charges? Incidentally, you have a unique opportunity to show who you are. Is the Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu truly a convict in waiting, a runaway from the law, a once-drug Lord who hides in Nigeria, a professional criminal who seeks immunity through political shenanigans of a country gone wrong under bad rulers? Or is Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu a misunderstood gentleman, a yet unknown political mastermind who needs an opportunity to lead his people, a rich mogul who made his money through lawful means and now wants to use his riches for the benefits of his people? Rumours abound. According to media reports, many of your co-politicians have stated in turn that you were a thoroughly good man, a devoted party member. But many others said that you were a terrible fraudist, villain, and that you deserved time in jail. But who are you? So here is the deal that will stop the rumours. Here is the golden opportunity to have your say, have your case made, and have a decision. It came when the NDLEA guys invited you to come visit their office. Not for keeps in the smelly rooms of our country’s detention places. And, heavens forbid, not in the horrific Nigerian jails that make life hell for all who pass through them. But to be extradited to the USA. As I understand it, the trip overseas is not to jail either, no matter how much better the United States’ incarceration services are. It is an invitation to a country where you once lived and prospered. An invitation to speak truth to facts. It is an opportunity to deal with the accusations and allegations in a court where justice can prevail. It is one sure way to end the rumours about who you are. It can stop the name calling, shed the wrong labels. If you are indeed a misunderstood gentleman, this is the-lifetime opportunity to clear your name. Even if the local court disallows your extradition, you should not accept it. “Oruko rere san ju wura ati fadaka”. (A good name is worth more than any jewery and ornaments). Think of it. When you return, a free man, there will be numerous people, cars and buses to celebrate your victory. Then you will have your name, dignity. You will have your credibility. You will walk with your head high. And you will be able to serve as a Senator, who deserves the platform. You should seize the time and get the mess out of the way. Avoid the actualization of the saying, the long arm of the law is going to tap you on the shoulder some day. |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Buruji Kashamu have been involved in a legal strife concerning Kashamu’s extradition to the United States for drug trafficking charges. This formal extradition suit number FHC/ABJ/ CS/479/2015 came after a company of NDLEA officers surrounded Senator Kashamu during a six-day siege of his Lekki, Lagos residence. The officers vacated the when Justice Okon Abang of the Lagos Federal High Court instructed NDLEA officers to leave the premises and suspend all actions concerning illegal exploits. “In this case, the NDLEA is very jumpy, nervous and unsettled because it has exposed its unprofessionalism.” When a SaharaReporters correspondent called to secure information from the Chicago Attorney General’s offices, where Kashamu’s extradition is originating, an official with the office told our correspondent that, “I know who you are speaking of, but we can't talk of any extradition.” The official, realizing they may have unintentionally confirmed that an extradition process was in order from the US government, talked back their remarks to the correspondent saying, “I want to be clear, I did not confirm that there is an extradition in order.” SaharaReporters has had anonymous sources, as well as official NDLEA sources, confirm that the US government placed an extradition request to the Nigerian government to extradite Kashamu to the US. The US Embassy in Abuja and the Attorney General Office in Chicago, USA have refused official comment on anything related to the Kashamu case. Pending approval from the presiding Judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, Kashamu has filed a committal suit against the Attorney General of Federation and the Chairman of the NDLEA denouncing them for contempt of the court. Previously the NDLEA position was that the now Senator-elect Kashamu was innocent of these drug offences, citing that it was a case of mistaken identity. These two contrasting stances suggest that the NDLEA’s involvement with the extradition is based on larger international and national interests to extradite Kashamu for future peaceful relations with the U.S., according to one analyst. In response the NDLEA filed a preliminary objection challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain Kashamu’s contention. The NDLEA lawyer, A.M. Sunday, said that the organization has filed a motion which will reverse the May 26th, 2015 order of the court which dispersed the 50 operatives that seized Kashamu’s home. Kashamu’ lawyer, Mr. R.A. Oluyede, claims the NDLEA’s claim is not relevant. Oluyede has encouraged the judge to prevent the NDLEA from oversteeping legal jurisdictions. He says the court should repeal the NDLEA”s warrants of arrest that attempt to extradite Kashamu. Oluyede also sought a court order that calls on the Inspector General of Police to issue additional security for Kashamu so he is protected from any attempts on his life. In a bench ruling, Judge Buba declined any of the new orders presented, instructed all involved parties to cease from action that undermined the court, and said the matter was adjourned until June 19th. |

****Pls warning before you read, I want you to knw this is type on a mobile phone, and again I plead with you pls and pls try and finish reading this story before your comments thanks........*** Without wasting much of time this is my story I was at a bar very close to my place of work, with the major motive of getting drunk, I had always visit the bar each time I remember wat d doctor told me, 3yrs ago, dat I may not be able to father a child with my low sperm count, I knw within me dat I've wasted lots of my sperm, in some useless relationships, before deciding to get married so I assume its my punishment, I taught of dis statement several tym only for me to end up getting drunk, another thing that captured my peace is conceding with d doctor not to tell my wife, the woman that came into my life when I had nothing, she accepted me just for the sake of love, no matter how hard I tried to show her the love she deserved, this piece of secret wouldn't just let me, now its been 4yrs after, she hasn't knw yet, hmmmmmm! I was abt to finish d 6th bottle of my beer when I felt a hand touching me, I looked back to see a young beautiful lady telling me something I can't really comprehend, d only thing my brain could translate was that she's so beautiful and light skinned, she came closer, picked something on the floor which I studied carefully happen to be my car key, hey thanks I manage to collect the key frm her, she looked at my hand and return her face back to my eyes then said "u r married nd yet u find pleasure drinking dis much, are u having issues u would like to discuss?" I looked at her, if only she had knw my intentions, if only she's knws hw I wish to talk it out wt sm1, without relenting I offer her the next seat, then speak out everything in me, she felt sorry for me, she asked if I could drive myself home, I manage to say yes only for me to stand up frm d chair and fell back to the seat, she picked d car key and helped me out of the bar, I notice I was at the back seat of the moving car, then I slept off, I woke up in the morning looking confused and shocked wen I saw her beside me unclad, I woke her up, then asked where we were, she said its her room, she couldn't allow me to drive alone after the discussion, and she asked me several tymz my address but I wouldn't wake up frm my slumber to say smtin sensible enuf, then I asked her y she was unclad, had smtin happened btw us, there she started, that she was lonely and depressed that was the reason she came to the bar in the 1st place, she just quit her relationship of 15 months wt her overseas boifrnd, when she received his wedding pictures and a letter frm him begging her to forgive him as he has to marry the white lady for him to able to stay abroad after his visa has expired, that he would definitely come back for her, she narrated, she was confused and wanted get drunk too, when she met me at the bar, hearing this made me felt sorry for her too..... After all this conversation we ended up having another 2 rounds of sex, then we both decided to call it a quit as she knws am married and I knw her bf may come for her anytime too....but we both really helped each other to get off the thinking stress that very day, we exchanged num, her name was so sweet to save on my contact (Adesewa) remembering my wife could be asking strange question if I used that name, I quickly changed it to (my Boss) and I left for home. I met my wife waiting all night for me, I immediately lied that I went for an urgent meeting with my client in another city, and my batry went down to make a call, I apologized, then she gave me a hug, she stepped back and looked at me, then said darling u looked rough, did u by any chance get into drinking again, she has warned me never to take alcohol anymore, I left her and went inside the rest room, my heart filled wt remorse nd regret, I love her very much, several times I think ow life would be witout her, two weeks after my meeting wt Adesewa, I saw her missed calls, I was wondering why she would call me 1st, could it be that she wanted more of wat we did? But we've agreed it was a coincidence, I tried to wave it off my mind and continue my work, I got home to met my wife packing some clothes inside her traveling box, was curious and asked what's going on, she smiled and said hav u forgotten next week is my sisters wedding ceremony? Ooooo My God I screamed, darling I've forgotten, am sorry so u will be leaving for the preparation? She replied yes, the following day she left it was a 7hours traveling. Since its been 2days she hav left I try to ceased d opportunity to call adesewa back to see to the reason for her missed calls weeks ago, I dialed her num, she picked up greeted me then said we need to talk but where she is now, she can't speak freely, I asked if we can meet @ bar she said she had traveled for an occasion of one of her old frnd, dat she will be back next week, I dropped the call, thinking of wat she could want to talk about, or she want to blackmailed me? No she has a nice job than to involve herself in black mailing, while waiting patiently for both adesewa and my wife to return back to the city, I heard my phone ringing, it was my wife, she sounded so excited, I asked her what happened she said "honey I just met an old skul frnd I lost her contact 4yrs ago, I can't even believe we were staying in the same city all dis while, we will be coming home together to meet you" oooh! I replied her wt same excitement, she once told me her regret in life was not remembering her old frnd num offhand, she did sometin great for her, that she can't forget, I asked her wat did she do for you to hav said that? She always end up saying its school stuff jare. After droping the call I received another call 45mins after it was Adesewa, I picked it, she went straight to the point, "hello Tunji am 4weeks pregnant and u r responsible for it, what do u want to do with it?" Yeeeeee! I wanted to scream, I wanted to laugh, but I can't just believed her like that, the doctor said I can't father a child, how come? She was still waiting for my ans on the phone, wen she added that if I didn't believe her, she wouldn't mind to terminate it before its too late, there I shouted pls don't do that, give me some time to think it over, she said she will only give me a week, after then she won't wait before she terminate the pregnancy, has she's not ready to settle down with a married man. Two days after I my wife called she's on her way, so I shud wait for her at home, my heart started pounding, if only this pregnancy was for my wife I would hav been the happiest person by nw, I reasoned with my mind could it be true, does it mean I cn nw father a child? Can I keep dis away frm my wife? Hmmmm so after hours of thinking I decided I must keep the secret away frm my wife no matter wat happens, then later I will figure out wat to do wt Adesewa issue, I was in the middle of this thinking wen I head a car driving in the compound, it must hav been my wife, I sensed frm the car horn, I immediately adjusted, she shouted Honey am back frm the corridor, I opened the door believe me I was about to collapse wen I saw my wife wt Adesewa smiling and laughing seriously ,we both looked shocked seeing each other, my wife said honey this is that my old school frnd I lost her contact, my wife came closer to me, saying honey she was the one that helped me with my final paper exam wen i suddenly fall sick 2hrs to the exam, adesewa sat for me to make me graduate that year, making her to hav an extra year has she finished mine before writing her own paper that day and time wasn't on her side to finish 2 questions on time............ She noticed as she was talking both of us were full of tears, Adesewa what's wrong? She asked? But sewa can't manage to say anything, than to rush out of the house, my wife turned to me, Tunji do u knw her smwhere? I said yes, but dis stupid tears spoiled the own drama, it kept rushing out........she was confused, I told her to give more time to settle down my brain, its been 3days now, my wife has been waiting patiently for an explanation, Adesewa has refused to picked my calls,..........am confused who to settle matter with first my wife or the woman with my first child, as I don't knw wat Adesewa might end up doing with the pregnancy. This is my story only a mutured advice can't help me, what should I do? Should I visit Adesewa 1st and settle with her or her my wife 1st ![]() Will my wife understand my relationship wt Adesewa was an accident? *Just confused* That this point what should be my priority? |
talk2tosep:So if those 15yrs children gang up killing sm1 close to you, wat would u call that? Encouragement? |
