Most cars are parked near footpaths or in basement parkings that are close to drains/gutters. Drains harbor entire rat colonies and in the rains,or when it’s breeding time, rats prefer warm and cozy spots like the engine bay of a car to a damp drain. Rodents are everywhere, and some are likely to invade your vehicle and do some damages. They can find your car, decide it is a safe place to make a nest and a handy site to store food. If you can discourage them, you may win the battle. How do rats enter the engine bay and cabin? One point of access is from the wheel well along the axles and into the engine bay. Favorite hiding spots for rats in the engine bay are behind the battery, under the engine cover, between the headlamps, radiator and so on. Getting into the cabin is actually a matter of luck, even for the rat. Most cabins are well-insulated, but there are spots like the fresh-air vent of the AC or the rubber grommets on floor-mounted pedals that can let rats in. Sometimes a rat will simply walk in when you’re not looking and have your door open. What damage can rats do? Rats can do a lot of damage. They love chewing things and cars with plenty of wires offer a lot to chew on. In the engine bay, they bite hoses, belts, wires, bulb holders, rubber inserts, felt linings, fasteners and the like. Some rats, once inside, can’t get out,as the AC fresh air vent from which it entered may have closed. Some of these parts can’t be replaced individually and would involve changing a whole unit. Cut wirings can result in blown fuses and short circuits, and the damage can be very expensive. They also urinate and defecate in their hideouts, which can also add to the foul smell in the car. Here are some successful measures rat damage victims have tried, especially in combination. Multiple lines of defense seem to work best. 1) Do not let the car sit unused. Drive it once in a while. The sound and heat from the engine can scare the rats away from the engine bay. 2) Block small entrances to the engine compartment with wire screen. Some car owners place traps around the vehicle or on top of the wheels, since rats climb wheels to get into the engine. 3) Remove food sources and clear all foodstuffs near and also from your car so the rats won’t be tempted to turn your car into a warehouse. 4) Remove or seal off rat hiding places near the car. If you have a garage, block rat-sized entrances to the building,or spray them with substances or solutions that rats hate. 5) Stroll around the vehicle with your dog or cat. Rats dislike their smell. Cats can be released in the evening time to scare away the rats. 6) Tobacco leaf can be placed inside the bonnet where ever possible. You may have to change them every 20 days or so. 6) Hot pepper can be put around the area where the rats are living or near the wires you find they are chewing up wiring. 7) Get some wire mesh to seal off fresh-air vents to the cabin,if your car does not have it. 8 ) Avoid putting rat poison inside car,as most probably the rats in their agony will get into the various tubes(mostly AC ducts)and might die inside, causing lots of problems. You will detect them only after you have a very bad smell of their dead body. Tackling a rat attack Rats leave their marks, like most animals,by urinating at many places, specifically those which are difficult to clean.Scrub every hose, every wire, every inch of your engine bay squeaky clean.Else, their urine, which is neutral to human nose, will keep on attracting them,in bigger and bigger numbers. Change your parking spot,at least for a week and completely disinfect your parking spot. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/12/ways-of-getting-rid-of-rats-or-mice-out-of-your-car-engine/ |
Vespa maker Piaggio’s new robot servant is yet another sign of the transportation industry reinventing itself Inside an industrial building in Somerville, Massachusetts, I’m watching a robot follow someone around like an eager puppy. The light-blue robot, called Gita, is almost spherical, with two wheels about the size of those you’d find on a mountain bike. A nearby laptop shows the world as perceived by the robot: a “point-cloud” of dots representing the 3-D shape of the room and the hallway outside, generated using a series of cameras attached to the bot’s body. Gita was developed by Piaggio, an Italian automotive company that makes various lightweight vehicles but is most famous for making the iconic Vespa scooter. The robot is an experimental new way of transporting stuff. The top of the robot opens up, allowing it to store up to 40 pounds of whatever you might otherwise lug around yourself. The company is about to begin testing Gita in a number of industrial settings, including factories and theme parks. But the hope is that the robot may also appeal to consumers who might want a robot assistant as they walk, run, or ride a bike (it has a top speed of 22 mph). Gita is a clear sign of the technological revolution currently shaking the world of transportation. As new technologies start to upend modes of mobility that have changed barely at all in decades, the automotive world is rapidly reinventing itself Jeffrey Schnapp, CEO of Piaggio Fast Forward, a subsidiary, says the company is trying to do something distinct in the transportation space. “A lot of focus is on automobiles and drones,” he says. “There are places where human-robot interaction makes sense.” Piaggio created Piaggio Fast Forward 18 months ago. Its mission is to experiment with new modes of transportation and new technologies. The sensors, control systems, and electric propulsion used in the new robot could all prove crucial for future Piaggio products, says Michele Colaninno, chairman of the board of Piaggio Fast Forward. The new robot is also a natural extension of the three-wheeled scooters Piaggio makes for commercial use. Still, as with many of the ideas being tested by transportation companies, including self-driving taxis, semi-automated trucks, and delivery drones, the underlying technology, as well as the potential applications, remain a bit unproven. Gita might be useful in some settings, perhaps for those who have to drag things around for delivery, but it’s less clear that such a robot would appeal to ordinary consumers. Although Gita features an obstacle detection system and can stop very quickly, it isn’t hard to imagine it running into people in a bike lane. Gita balances itself as it travels, keeping its cargo level. The robot runs for eight hours, and can recharge in a regular outlet. It has three different modes: following someone, driving autonomously, and platooning with other Gita vehicles. The company has not announced a price. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Gita is its sensor technology. Rather than more expensive sensors such as lidar, which bounce a laser off objects to build a 3-D picture, the robot maps its environment using video cameras. This involves comparing images captured at different points in time, and using the differences to infer the three-dimensional structure of a scene. Gita uses a stereoscopic camera for this and several other fisheye cameras to provide a 360-degree view around the robot. Schnapp says the video mapping system can be less reliable in poor lighting or bad weather, and they are considering adding a light to the robot to address this. The robot follows people not by tracking them, but by comparing its view of the world to one captured from a set of cameras on a belt that’s worn by the person it's following. This allows the robot to follow a person’s route long after he or she has traveled it. Although, honestly, the belt looks a bit dorky. Piaggio hasn’t said when the robot will go on sale, and indeed it is a little rough around the edges. But it may not be long before the first robot helpers are spotted chasing their owners along sidewalks and bike paths. A Taste of the Future Gita is not the first autonomous delivery drone. The rather grandly titled Starship Technologies is currently testing its own six-wheeled robots in 56 cities worldwide. In the UK, this is in a partnership with online takeaway service Just Eat to transport pizzas, curries and more across the capital. After being tested in Greenwich, the droids are slowly being rolled out across London. These robots can carry 10kg and have a max speed of 4mph. When the robot arrives, the customer receives a notification with a code that unlocks the robot’s lid. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/11/vespas-new-robot-that-can-carry-you-shopping/ |

Sitting around on your backside all day has never been less popular. The modern sedentary lifestyle that comes from office working is being blamed for all manner of ailments, from physical aches and pains to zapping your creativity and motivation. The standing desk may seem like a modern fad – you’ve probably noticed a lot of social media posts about them, but it’s been suggested that even in the Victorian ages, pen-pushing clerks used to stand up, moving freely around workstations a lot more than the lazybones workers of the 21st century have become accustomed to. Less popular with office managers up and down the country having to fork out to replace a whole room of more traditional setups, if you work for yourself, you probably only have one desk to be concerned about, which is much better news for your bank balance. Possibly the most requested feature for Netflix has finally arrived. The streaming juggernaut has recently updated its mobile app so you can now download films and TV shows to your phone and watch them on your morning commute without burning through your data plan. Users of the rival Amazon Prime Instant Video service will point out they’ve had this feature for over a year now, but the update is big news for fans of Netflix exclusives like Stranger Things and House Of Cards. To start downloading from Netflix, make sure your device up to date, as the app requires iOS 8.0/Android 4.4.2 or later. If you’re an Android user with expanded storage, keep in mind is that the content downloaded will be stored in the same location as the Netflix app, so if you want a series saved onto a SD card, then the app itself must be moved onto it first. It’s also worth noting not every show or film can be downloaded, likely due to licensing restrictions. Find a show SS menu Once you’ve updated your Netflix mobile app, a new option will have appeared in your side-menu screen called ‘Available For Download’. This filters all of Netflix’s shows and movies to only display the ones that can be stored on your device. Alternatively, when glancing through all of Netflix’s content, a downward-facing arrow symbol will appear next to episodes that are available to download. Download content SS downloading Unfortunately for all you binge-watchers out there, the app doesn’t have a ‘Download All’ option. So to store an entire series on your device, you will have to download each episode, individually, by tapping the download symbol. As the episodes download, a bar will appear at the bottom of the screen to display how much of the episode has downloaded and/or how many episodes you have queued to download. Adjust settings SS mobile data 2 The app’s default is to only download content over Wi-Fi. If you try to download an episode over mobile data, a warning will appear to tell you that it is restricted. Though this saves you the cost of using your data, you can change this in App Settings, which is at the bottom of your side-menu options. You can also set the video quality of your downloads, which can reduce the amount of phone storage that is required. Watch an episode SS Delete Netflix download To watch the shows that you have saved to your device, select ‘My Downloads’ from the menu tab, here, every episode will be grouped by show. To play an episode, select one as you normally would when streaming. Once you’ve finished, you can delete downloads individually or by show by swiping left. Alternatively, a ‘Find More To Download’ button will redirect you back to the show’s main app entry so you can view more. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/11/how-to-watch-netflix-videos-offline/ |
1 Open your Android's Settings. It's the grey gear icon likely found in the App Drawer. 2 Scroll down and tap Apps. This option is in the "Device" section. On some Androids (such as the Samsung Galaxy), you must first tap Devicebefore you can tap Apps. 3 Swipe left on the "Apps" page. Doing so will open the "SD Card" page, which displays your currently used hard drive space in the bottom-left corner of the screen and your total storage space in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 4 Swipe left on the "SD Card" page. Doing so will open the "Running" tab which displays your currently-running programs. 5 Review the different categories. There are three values at the top of the page that will show you your Android's RAM usage: System - The number of gigabytes currently used by your Android's operating system. Apps - The number of gigabytes currently used by running apps. Free - The number of free gigabytes of RAM. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/10/checking-hard-drive-and-ram-usage-on-android/ |
Hold down Alt+Ctrl and press Delete. Doing so will open your Windows computer's task manager menu. Click Task Manager. It's the last option on this page. Click the Performance tab. You'll see it at the top of the "Task Manager" window. Click the Memory tab. It's on the top-left side of the "Task Manager" window. You'll be able to view how much of your computer's RAM is being used in graph format near the top of the page, or by looking at the number beneath the "In use (Compressed)" heading. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/10/community-tested-how-to-check-memory-usage/ |
There has been a release of OTG Flash drives recently(not too recent though) for those who would like to expand their storage, I got myself an iPhone 6 that had only 16gb, it saved me alot of money getting a 128gb OTG flash drive for my phone, at least I could now save important files and open them with ease, instead of getting a 128gb for some huge $$$. The main advantage of an OTG drive is that, OTG allows device such as a smartphone to use the same port to charge it up or to synchronise with a computer (where it acts as a device to the computer host) and also to plug in USB devices such as memory sticks ( where it acts as the host controlling the device). You are really gonna love this if you want an easy way to move files to and from your phone without having to delete them because of low storage. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/09/dont-delete-your-important-files-because-of-low-storage-space-try-usb-otg/ |
A couple of months ago, I took a good, hard look at my dual-screen setup and thought, hmmm, maybe I should get another monitor. A bigger monitor. Then, after an hour or two of researching 27-inch monitors online, I walked into my living room and was struck with a brilliant idea: Maybe, instead of purchasing an entirely new monitor, I should just move my 32-inch HDTV into my office and call it a day. Bigger is better, you know, and this way I wouldn’t have to drop a couple hundred bucks on a new piece of equipment. But just because HDTVs look a heck of a lot like computer monitors doesn’t necessarily mean they can replace computer monitors. Or does it? Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about sticking an HDTV on your desk. Will it even work? Yes, although you may need a special cable depending on what type of input/output ports you’re working with. All modern HDTVs have HDMI inputs—some older HDTVs have DVI inputs instead—and some have VGA inputs for “PC use.” If your graphics card has an HDMI output, you’re good to go: Just use an HDMI cable to connect your PC to your HDTV. If your graphics card only has DVI outputs, I suggest snagging a cheap HDMI-to-DVI cable and plugging it into your HDTV’s HDMI input. Although some HDTVs (and some graphics cards) have VGA inputs/outputs, this is not the ideal choice—it’s an analog signal that will give you a far fuzzier, lower-resolution image than an HDMI or DVI signal. An HDMI connector. If you’re setting up your HDTV as a second or third monitor, you may need to use your PC’s DisplayPort output, in which case you can purchase a DisplayPort-to-HDMI converter and plug into your HDTV’s HDMI input. The main advantage to converting from DisplayPort is that HDMI and DisplayPort both carry sound as well as video—if you use DVI (even the digital version) or VGA, you’ll need to connect your PC’s sound to the HDTV or to external speakers separately. Before you start using your HDTV as a monitor, you need to figure out whether your graphics card/integrated graphics is capable of outputting at the resolution of the HDTV. To do this, you’ll first need to find the resolution of the HDTV by consulting the manufacturer’s manual. Be aware that some HDTVs have non-standard resolutions. Then, find your graphics card’s maximum resolution by going to Control Panel > Display > Change display settings > Advanced settings > List All Modes. Find the resolution that matches your HDTV and select it. Will it look good? Maybe, but this depends on a number of factors, including what you want to use your HDTV monitor for. Most reasonably priced HDTVs top out at 1080p, or 1920x1080 resolution. On a 15.6-inch laptop screen, the Windows desktop at 1080p looks pretty darn good from a couple of feet away. On a 32-inch HDTV screen…not so much. What’s important here is pixel density, or the number of pixels packed into one square inch of the screen. A 15.6-inch laptop screen has the same number of pixels as the 32-inch HDTV screen, but the laptop has a much higher pixel density (141.21ppi) than does the HDTV (68.84ppi). Thus, the laptop’s screen will appear clearer, sharper, and more detailed than the HDTV’s screen when viewed from the same distance. The importance of pixel density decreases with viewing distance; that’s why the iPhone’s “Retina” screen has a density of 326ppi, while the MacBook Pro’s “Retina” screen has a density of just 227ppi. What this means for you is that a larger but less pixel-dense HDTV screen will display text, icons, and images as blurry and difficult-to-read if you’re sitting at a normal viewing distance—a couple of feet—from your computer. If you plan on using your HDTV monitor to do anything other than watch Netflix or play games, you’ll want an HDTV with a higher pixel density (I like to shoot for at least 80ppi, which means no larger than a 27-inch screen at 1080p) for comfortable viewing. Or just hang it on the wall rather than plopping it on your desk. Speaking of gaming, if you want to use your HDTV monitor to play games, there’s another factor you’ll need to take into consideration: input lag. Input lag is the delay between movement you make on your input device (in this case, your mouse) and what displays on your screen. While many computer monitors prioritize minimal lag times, many HDTVs do not, and prioritize (laggy) video processing instead. But those extra milliseconds will definitely make a difference when you’re playing a high-stakes FPS. DisplayLag has a pretty good database of input lag times that you can sort by display type—you want to pick an HDTV with a lag time of no more than about 40 seconds. If you run in to input lag problems while gaming, try activating your HDTV’s “Game mode” setting if one is available. Is it worth it? If you’re looking to get the best bang for your buck, an HDTV isn’t necessarily going to save you money over a monitor. In fact, if you’re purchasing a new display, I recommend sticking with the tried-and-true computer monitor. For one thing, smaller, cheaper HDTVs are typically 720p resolution, not 1080p, while similarly priced monitors will almost always be 1080p. So if you’re looking for something under 27 inches, an HDTV will probably be more expensive and lower-resolution. If you’re looking for something larger than 27 inches, remember that pixel density decreases significantly with every few inches you gain, and there’s a reason HDTV-makers suggest sitting several feet away from their displays. If you need a display that will multitask as an up-close work/email display as well as a movie/entertainment display, you’ll want something with a high enough pixel density that text won’t be a pain to read. There is an ideal situation in which the HDTV-as-monitor shines, though. If you want to add an extra display to a single- or multi-display setup for entertainment—say, so you can watch Netflix or Twitter while you write articles, or so you can play Skyrim on a 60-inch screen—then an HDTV can be a very capable (and cool!) monitor replacement. Bonus points if you happen to have an extra HDTV lying around, or if you can pick one up for dirt-cheap. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/09/how-to-use-your-tv-as-a-computer-monitor/ |
Innovative tech features in cars are now so common that most of us expect them, even in the most basic cars. The Ford EcoSport offers lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control; many new cars have a backup camera. It’s almost a little boring to think that autonomous steering is now available in at least five different models – from Nissan to Cadillac to Tesla. And then along comes the 2019 Volvo XC40. This is a car that would appeal to the tech elite, those who want to try out features that are not widely available. Volvo XC40: Scandi cool Tech'd out First up – you can drive the XC40 without owning a key. We weren't able to test the feature because it's not available to journalists and you have to actually own the car, but using the Volvo On Call app, you can grant access to another driver or even to yourself to drive with a somewhat mysterious “red key” that always stays with the car. “The red key is only activated when the vehicle is unlocked via the Volvo On Call app,“ says Jim Nichols, the Product and Technology Communications Manager at Volvo. “The driver can leave the key wherever he or she prefers in the vehicle. The center tunnel or glove compartment are two potential places. When activated, the borrowing driver may use the red key as a normal key. When s/he returns the vehicle, the key is deactivated.“ No key? No problem We tested the app as much as possible, however – even if we didn’t have the red key. The concept is a clear sign of what’s coming with automated driving. You can grant access to a teen driver for the day, or to a friend, then monitor the location of the car in real-time. Another innovation has to do with the Care by Volvo program. Again, it’s not possible to test in a real-world setting, but the XC40 we used is the exact same model you can “subscribe to” (aka, rent) for a month at a fixed price of $600 for the Momentum trim and $700 for the sportier R-Design version we tested. Photo credit How is it different from renting or leasing? Good question. Volvo says there are no hassles about upcharges, and it’s a flat rate available everywhere no matter which state (even Alaska). And, you can do everything from the app. “It is different from rental in that this vehicle is your own personal automobile,“ says Nichols. “It is new and not shared in a pool with others as other OEM programs. Regarding comprehensive service, the servicing such as wiper blades etc. would still be handled via the normal Volvo service program at the retailer. “There are pilots in place to introduce valet service, where someone comes to swap out your car while service is performed.“ Rent your own car A subscription is a sign of how we’ll drive cars in the future, without a key and presumably without the hassle – renting them will work more like buying an iTunes movie. Well, that’s the dream anyway. We wondered about what happens when you go over the allotted miles of only 15,000 per year. Damage to the vehicle? While Volvo says the insurance works the same in every state on a flat rate, we wondered about scuff marks or other light damage. These are the same issues we’ll have to deal with when we can send cars out like an Uber to drive people around autonomously, or when we ask the car to drive us home. If the robot is driving, who is liable for the insurance? It likely won’t be Volvo, but maybe it could be. For now, it’s amazing to think these features are so fluid – the apps are easy to use. Lincoln and Audi offer similar services to borrow a car (with Lincoln, it’s when you get service). Still the pricing is not outrageous – a $20 per day rental car costs $600 per month. We do have to mention a few other interesting perks in the XC40. The car has a wireless charge pad tucked away under the main console. There are compartments everywhere. The car has a trash can you can remove – it sits next to the armrests. A tissue box fits perfectly into the compartment between the seats, and there’s a hook you can use on the glove box to hang take-out food. And, the car is just a joy to drive – sporty and subtle around corners. For anyone who likes “firsts” in technology the Volvo XC40 is a good choice. And, it’s certainly a clear indication of where automotive tech is heading (with a few caveats along the way). http://www.ttechbay.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1792&action=edit |
iOS 11.4 problems are likely to continue, even though Apple just issued the update for your iPhone and iPad. It can't fix all of the bugs, so we're happy to help you solve them today. You can download iOS 11.4 right now as the latest stable version of iOS 11, and this should greatly help users who are experiencing disabled touchscreens, poor battery life and slow wireless charging, among other issues. Do you have a specific iOS 11 problem not listed? Follow and tweet at us and we'll list it here and direct message you if we find a solution. Why is iOS 11 such a problem? There are now so many iOS 11-compatible devices, wireless carriers, and various settings you may have ticked that others don't. Apple has to bug test for all different scenarios these days, and clearly it's not always working. iPhone 6 and 6S users have had the most complaints, according to our feedback. So, remember, there are minor problems that you and you alone might face with iOS 11 due to your settings. That makes all of this extra difficult. Here are the top iOS 11 problems and how to fix them to get your iPhone and iPad back up to speed. Watch our iOS 11 overview video for a rundown of the key features Apple's latest OS introduces. New: How to fix the 'black dot' bug on iOS 11 Your Messages app may crash indefinitely if you receive the follow emoji: a 'medium black circle' between a less than and greater than symbol, and a 'backhand index finger pointing left'. It seems innocent enough, but invisible characters that are a part of this character string overclock the CPU. It'll crash the app every time you try to re-open it, too. Quitting the app won't work. The fix? With 3D Touch, you're able to avoid opening the last message you saw by selecting the option 'New message.' From here, hit Cancel and you'll see your list of messages. Delete the offending message and avoid opening it at all costs. Newest iOS 11.3 problem: disabled touchscreen Updating to iOS 11.3 has been a new headache for people who have already gone through a headache. Specifically, a handful of people who have had a third-party (not Apple) repair their iPhone 8 screen have said that the big iOS 11.3 upgrade disabling their touchscreen. Yes, that new Red iPhone 8 looks great on the outside, but if you replaced the screen of an iPhone 8 on the cheap, iOS 11.3 may be giving you an even bigger problem. The best solution is to hold off on downloading iOS 11.3 if you can. Apple has had bugs like this before (for people with aftermarket home buttons repairs) and fixed the issue. If it's too late, it's straight to the Apple Store. There's not much you can do. 1. iPhone with iOS 11 is slow This is the biggest complaint we hear and it's mostly from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S users who are a few generations behind the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Apple has admitted to slowing down their phones' CPUs if the batteries had degraded. Of course, no one was pleased to hear that Apple was hamstringing their expensive device, and Apple tried to make amends by offering cheap battery replacements. You'll also see iOS 11.3 let you disable performance throttling. So there are two fixes for this issue. 2. Messaging or email apps crash in iOS 11 The iPhone and iPad are powerful tools, but apparently iOS 11 is no match for a single Indian-language character that is crashing devices (with a soft reset) and disabling key apps like Messages, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. One solution is to download iOS 11.3 right away. We haven't had an issue since updating to the beta software. Those stuck on iOS 11.2 can try to access the app through the drop-down notification (when someone sends you a text). That way, you're not opening up the app the normal way and causing it to crash. Delete the message with the crash-prone character that way. Updating to iOS 11.2.6 should also resolve the vulnerability. A link that can be sent to iPhone users and has the effect of crashing their iPhones, even potentially bricking it, according to The Verge. If you’ve received this phone-crashing link in a message, you can attempt to quickly delete the conversation thread it was sent it, you can factory reset your phone or you can update to iOS 11.3, which should no longer suffer from the crashing issue 3. iMessages backed up to iCloud Advertisement We're up to iOS 11.3 and this promised feature still hasn't fulled launched outside of the beta. Apple planned to make it very easy to backup Messages in iCloud and even sync across your iOS and Mac hardware. You wouldn’t have to delete a conversation thread on every single one of your Apple devices. Great, right? Unfortunately, if you’re having trouble finding that features, you can blame it on them not being there yet. Apple has this feature planned for iOS 11, but it will be coming in a later iteration of the operating system. As of iOS 11.3, this has still not been implemented. The good news is that it's in iOS 11.4 beta along with AirPlay 2. It'll be here before iOS 12. 4. Messages conversations are out of order Struggling to find a conversation in the Messages app on your iPhone? That may be because of a bug in iOS 11 that caused conversations to appear out of order. Fortunately, the solution is as simple as the problem. Anyone experiencing this issue can upgrade to iOS 11.2.5 or later and should see their conversations stay neatly ordered. 5. iPhone crashing again and again Hopefully you haven’t been living with this issue for the past months. Some iPhone users running iOS 11.1.2 ran into a problem where their devices would crash and restart, MacRumors reported. This issue started on December 2 and was related to notifications created on the device, like daily reminders or alarms. iOS 11.2 should have resolved this issue, so if you’re experiencing this problem, make sure to update. If you're struggling to install the update because your phone crashes, you may try an alternative fix, which involves disabling local notifications or adjusting the date to a time before December 2. 6. Battery status indicator has disappeared A new bug was introduced with iOS 11.2.6, and it’s an unfortunate one for anyone who struggles to keep their iPhone charged. The status icon at the top of iOS that shows battery levels disappearing from some devices in iOS 11.2.6, reports Forbes. There’s no clear solution to get the battery icon displaying properly is known, but you can navigate through the phone’s settings to the Battery section and view it that way. Updating to the iOS 11.3 may also help you dodge around this issue. 7. AirPods are both only playing one channel of stereo audio Another curious issue introduced with iOS 11.2.6 for Apple AirPod owners is the loss of stereo, as AppleInsider has noted. For users with the problem, the wireless earbuds may both play the left or right channel of audio, instead of splitting the stereo stream appropriately. A future update may eventually fix this so it never occurs, but fortunately there is also a simple fix for users right now. All you need to do is unpair the AirPods and your iOS device, and then re-pair them. This should resolve the issue. 8. Messages displaying text outside of the notification bubble on lock screen As far as serious problems for iOS 11 go, this isn’t one of them. Sure, having text show outside of notification bubbles isn’t a thrilling level of polish, but the issue only manifests for a short time until the bubble expands. However, this issue has been seen as indicative of the state of iOS 11 and its plague of issues. The bug even made an appearance in an Apple advertisement, as 9to5 Mac’s Benjamin Mayo spotted. Apple has pivoted its plans for iOS 11.3, focusing it more on stability than new features. With any luck, that will mean a lot of the lingering issues on this list will be resolved when it comes out, and perhaps fewer new issues will be introduced. This notification bubble issue may be fixed then, too. But, until then, it’s a small problem you’ll have to live with to avoid some of the bigger issues facing versions of iOS 11 prior to 11.2.6. 9. 'A' with a question mark box is replacing 'i' There's no 'i' in iPhone – at least for some people who have updated to iOS 11. They're seeing the letter 'i' be replaced by an 'A' followed by a question mark box symbol. No, it's not a Super Mario 1-up, it's an autocorrect error. Apple patched this issue with iOS 11.1.1. If you're not updating, you can follow these steps: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement. Tap the plus sign in the top right corner For Phrase, type an upper-case "I". For Shortcut, type a lower-case "i." Since iOS 11.1.1 solves this issue, it should stay cleared up in the latest 11.2.5 update as well. 10. Your iOS 11 camera settings keep changing This is one we got from a TechRadar reader via Twitter: your camera settings reset as soon as you close out the default camera app. That's annoying, right? The good news is that, as we explain, this is meant to happen. It's actually an easily missed feature introduced with iOS 10 and a part of iOS 11, too. You can keep modes (like video or square), filters and studio lighting effects, and live photos locked if you visit the Preserve Settings in the Camera settings menu. 11. Can’t connect to a Wi-Fi network It’s only natural for a user to have reported that their iPhone no longer allowed them to join their personal Wi-Fi network after updating to iOS 11, and they surely haven’t been alone in this. Some preliminary steps to try resolving this issue would be to reset your phone, reset the Wi-Fi router (even if other devices are clearly connected to the internet through it) or forget the Wi-Fi network on your device and rejoin. You can also attempt to reset the network settings of your device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings – don’t worry, this fix shouldn’t erase anything on your phone. However, the user who posted this issue tried many of these fixes to no success. Depending on which version of iOS you are currently running, the solution may be to upgrade to a newer version or restore an earlier version. 12. Poor battery life with iOS 11 It seems that every new version of iOS invariably comes with a whole host of complaints that older iPhones have their battery life severely impacted. If your battery is dying early and it’s not simply because you’re spending more time playing with all the new features and learning all the new iOS 11 tricks, there are a lot of things that could be at the root of it. Older apps may not be playing nice with iOS 11. You can check to see if that’s the case by going into Settings > Battery and seeing which apps are using the most battery. If any apps that you hardly use are draining it like crazy, you might want to disable them until they get more iOS 11-friendly updates. BGR suggests that it may just be that it takes a little time for iOS 11 to get comfywith your device. This process could take a few days, so you might want to just wait it out. In the meantime, you can turn off GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth when you’re not using them. You should also lower the brightness of your screen and disable apps refreshing in the background (Settings > General > Background App Refresh). 13. Some apps are gone or not working properly If you’ve been dragging along some old apps from phone to phone for a while now without updating them (either because you don’t update them or because the creator won’t update them) they may not work well with iOS 11. If they’re old enough, or still 32-Bit, they won’t be compatible with iOS 11. If you haven’t updated your iPhone yet, you can use our guide to determine which apps will work with iOS 11. 14. Your iPhone’s suddenly filling up its storage Some users have reported that the update to iOS 11 began to slowly increase the system storage on their device until the device was almost full, even on the latest iPhones. This error doesn’t appear to be linked to specific apps, but rather just the storage that the system itself takes up. Issues like this come and go, and it's not clear if it has been resolved for most users, but at least one user has reported that iOS 11.2 resolved their problem. The easiest way to avoid this sort of problem is to keep a backup of your phone before updating in case a new update causes, or if there are newer updates available than the one causing the issue, try switching to the newer operating system. One forum user previously reported that turning off iPhone Analytics resolved the issue for them. To do that, go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics > Share iPhone Analytics, and then turn the option off. 15. The Home button is slow to wake up the device Multiple Apple users have posted that, after updating their old iPhones to iOS 11, their lock screen freezes for around 10 seconds, appearing to stall out or slowly load up before letting them use their device. Nothing could be more tedious than waiting around for 10 seconds just to check a notifications now and then. This is the type of problem that may resolve itself over time, as the new operating system gets familiar with your device and files. If the issue hasn't resolved itself, it may be time to look at updating to 11.2.6 if you haven't already, or using an old restore point to go back to iOS 10. If you believe your device is generally slower, it may be the performance throttling linked to a degraded battery, and the solution may be to replace your phone’s battery or wait for 11.3 to hit. 16. Your device is overheating There are plenty of reasons a phone can overheat, and complaints seem to crop up around new software updates. Maybe it’s iOS 11’s fault, or maybe it's just that your phone is working hard. In any case, you can temporarily address the overheating by turning the phone off, keeping it out of the sunlight or other heat sources (like the top of your computer) and exposing as much surface area as possible to the air (which means taking it out of any case and potentially propping it up. It’s worth noting that charging your device won’t help cool it down any, so wait until it’s cool to plug it back in. If your habits haven’t changed and your device is continuously overheating when it didn’t usually before, it may be time for you to consider restoring an earlier backup of your device. A short battery life may be annoying, but overheating can seriously damage your device, and iTunes won’t restore a fried CPU. 17. Power button isn’t working If something goes wrong with the update and your power button stops working, you can shut your device down in the menus. To do this, go to Setting>General, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, where you’ll see a “Shut down” option that will give you a slider on screen to turn your device off. This is especially handy if you are trying to restart or power down the phone because something else is going wrong, such as overheating. 18. iOS 11 won’t let you send email with Outlook/Exchange For anyone still running the first iteration of iOS 11, Apple acknowledged a bugthat was preventing some iOS 11 users from sending emails through certain Microsoft-run servers. The error message said “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server.” If this is the case for you, it’s time for an update. The problem has been fixed as of iOS 11.0.1, so updating should resolve the issue. 19. Visual Voicemail isn't working Some users of the iOS 11.2 beta noted that Visual Voicemail wasn't working for them. And, unfortunately, it appears that the issue is persistent, having been around since the early days of iOS 11. If you're experiencing this problem, restarting the phone may help, or restarting the app. Another option is to turn Airplane mode on and off. If restarting or updating your device to the latest stable build of iOS 11 doesn’t work, there are other possible solutions. If you're experiencing this problem, restarting the phone may help, or restarting the app. Another option is to turn Airplane mode on and off. Some users have reported success by calling to listen to their voicemail and letting the phone listen to the whole voicemail, then exiting the relaunching the app. An AT&T user has also reported success by going to ATT.com and resetting their voicemail password. 20. Music controls missing from lock screen Having music controls handy right on the lock screen of the device is great for music lovers. Pausing and switching songs shouldn't involve unlocking and navigating your phone in the modern day. But, issues with music controls have been popping up all around iOS 11, including in Beta testing. Apple has a fix though, and it came with iOS 11.2. If you're experiencing this issue and not on the latest version of iOS, try updating to resolve the problem. http://www.ttechbay.com/2018/06/09/ios-11-and-ios-11-4-problems-how-to-fix-them/ |

Nigus Enfinity, an indigenous firm, says it will introduce electric vehicles into the Nigerian automobile market in 2018 and that its local assembly plant for electric vehicles will be ready in 2020.Malik Ado-Ibrahim, chairman of the company, made this known to journalists in an interactive session which held in Abuja on Thursday. He said Nigeria and Africa need to look inward to be at the fore of the automotive revolution or risk becoming waste bin for banned vehicles from other countries. Ado-Ibrahim, who was the first African to lead the Formula 1 Team global race car competition in 1999, said his firm is already building a 100 megawatts (mw) solar power plant in Katsina and another in Adamawa state. According to him, the company has also partnered with Build Your Dreams, a Chinese firm, to import electric vehicles at affordable costs from 2018. “We are also working with BYD to get a local brand and start an electric vehicle assembly plant for Nigeria from 2020. Gradually we will move to an EV with the African DNA starting in Nigeria,” he said. https://ttechbay..com.ng/2018/05/electric-cars-to-be-introduced-into.html |
MTN has conducted a 5G technology and applications trial at its head office in Johannesburg in partnership with Ericsson. The announcement at the MTN headquarters in South Africa on Monday comes after the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at AfricaCom 2017, to collaborate on the rollout of 5G technologies in South Africa, one of the first of its kind in Africa, IT News Africa reports. Some geek speaks: MTN received a temporary license for 800MHz of spectrum in the 15GHz band to conduct its 5G trial. The test achieved a throughput (data transfer rate) of 20Gbps with a latency of less than 5 milliseconds (ms), which is the highest achieved on a mobile network in Africa. The 5G trial is based on commercially available baseband hardware and 5G mobility is supported. Speaking at the event, Chief Technology and Information Officer for MTN SA, Giovanni Chiarelli, said that 5G offered a whole new world of potential for South Africa and the continent. “With 5G, remote healthcare through connected robots could offer world-class surgery in the most remote parts of the continent and the world. Self-driving cars could change the face of road safety, along with smart agriculture, smart mining and smart cities. There is no doubt that 5G will offer the consumer higher speeds and lower latencies but to achieve this, we need the capacity that comes with additional spectrum”. 5G is knocking on the door, even though many of us are not yet used to the 4G LTE speed. The capability of the 5G network as fast as to be able to transmit data up to 20GB per second, this an insanely fast and moves the mobile experience to a whole new level. Comment your thoughts below and stay tuned for more on this later on.https://ttechbay..com/2018/05/mtn-conducted-africas-first-5g.html |

Microsoft and PayPal have worked out a relationship that will allow Skype users to send money right through the app. Microsoft made the announcement yesterday, confirming that users in 22 different countries across the globe will be able to use the feature, as long as they have a PayPal account, and are using the iOS or Android app. You’ll need to be in one of the following countries to use the feature: United States of America, Canada, UK (Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man) Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain. The first time you use it, you’ll be asked to confirm your location within the app. Once that is confirmed you’ll need to link your PayPal account to your Skype account, and Microsoft makes sure to confirm that PayPal is handling the money transaction, and not Microsoft itself. The person sending the money also needs to make sure they are using the most up-to-date version of the Skype app, but the person receiving the money can apparently be using any version of the app. You can use this feature in your new version of Skype straight inside the messaging app. While you are in conversation with a person, select the Find option at the top bar and choose Send money >> Choose the amount of money and confirm the payment. However, this feature is designed for friends and family not for making transactions online such as payment of goods and services online. https://ttechbay..com.ng/2018/05/you-can-now-transfer-paypal-funds.html |
