Another good one from the Jagaban. This demonstrates that Tinubu has all the power to transform Nigeria for good, but he is not doing it because of his sectional and parochial tendencies including his avarice and cynicism (He once proclaimed that he does not believe in one Nigeria). Had it being he is truly patriotic and selfless Nigeria would have being on its way to being like Singapore. No president since Nigeria began (not even the colonial governor-generals) has amassed the quantity of Machiavellian power and influence that has been garnered by the Jagaban. For once in Nigeria, a president is in effective control of Parliament, Judiciary and practically all the Governors of the states, including the Armed forces, and INEC. He has the power to win/rig any election, change the Constitution as he deems fit - extend his tenure, partition the country, anything. And this power can be used for great good or great evil.
This is just a small incident naa... Reported as if an inferno razed down the whole building. Only a mattress burnt, even the wooden bed was not burnt.
Lagos State, this your fight in Lagos- a Yoruba land- is just dead on arrival. In vain. A waste of time.A striving after wind. You cannot succeed. Old cultural habits die hard.
Op is wise and erudite. Frontpage please. Nigeria is indeed a Hobbesian jungle where each person is against every other person for personal survival. It's kill or be killed. Live and let die. Law and order has broken down. No one is heeding the law again from the highest person to the lowest.
Only the reconstitution of the state can stop this self-destruction and elect Hobbes' 'Leviathan' to restore order and bring peace. Nothing else will.
Bawa should go and eat his own loot and stop disturbing us...so make we do what now exactly? Make we fry beans? You were head of EFCC and you couldn't apprehend them, now you are out you are writing book on them. Is that not foolishness? Wetin you want make e happen now?
Its finished then. Tinubu is the Civilian Dictator of our time. The Military Dictators like Babangida used civilians to rule States as civilian governors. Now a Civilian dictator is using a military to rule as governor. Other recalcitrant governors are next in line. MNK told you guys its a zoo but you cursed and rejected him. Well...the stone the builders rejected has become head of the corner. Nigerians how market?
Topman7: MR MAN, THERE IS NOTHING THE WORLD BANK IS TELLING US TO DO WHICH WE WOULD NOT HAVE DONE ANYWAY!
That 10 billion dollar a year we were BORROWING to pay subsidies, it was not the IMF or World Bank that said 'stop it'. It was BUHARI who saw that it was BANKRUPTING THE NATION, and put a halt to it. Omitting it in the budget he handed to Tinubu.
The TRUTH is that Nigeria was living on BORROWED MONEY FOR FUEL SUBSIDIES.
And as the population grew, you required MORE MONEY FOR SUBSIDIES.
How the hell is that sustainable?
Continuing with the subsidies would have meant we would have become like Zimbabwe or Venezuela, or Sri Lanka , where the economies totally crashed, and went bankrupt, because their debts overwhelmed them and nobody would lend them any more money.
IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?
Because if you think things are hard now, THAT would make it 10 times worse.
You just sound like a government paid propagandist. The reason why you were paying subsidies was it not because your refineries were sabotaged not to work even after putting in billions of dollars?
Is it not rational to address that FAILURE first before removing subsidy or After removing subsidy? But NO. Even Dangote private refinery is starved of crude oil by the government so as not to work. Can't you see the conspiracy there? This is an international conspiracy facilitated by Nigerian government collaborators to make nigeria fuel import dependent Country and thus ENSURE THAT THE OIL WEALTH IS LIQUIDATED BY THE COALITION OF INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL COLLABORATORS.
Rossikk: Stop giving us a stupid, irrelevant essay.
The Nigerian reforms are similar to the Chinese reforms in the way they are designed to foster SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
First start: STOP BORROWING 10 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR TO PAY FUEL SUBSIDIES.
INDIGENISATION POLICIES WHICH PROMOTE LESS DEPENDENCE ON THE DOLLAR, TO SHORE UP YOUR LOCAL CURRENCY, WHILE CURBING IMPORTS BY CREATING BUSINESS-FRIENDLY POLICIES AND AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR INVESTORS.
THIS IS WHAT NIGERIA IS DOING.
CHINA WENT MUCH FURTHER BY outright BANNING of many imports, including vehicles etc, and imposing high tariffs on imported goods.
This made life VERY HARD for the average Chinese.
But today they are very prosperous because of those policies, which lasted decades.
You are a BIG IGNORANT FOOL!
Didn't I tell you not to compare yourself with China? What kind of reforms are you doing that you cannot get your 4 refineries to refine fuel for local consumption and you keep importing fuel while mouthing subsidy. Is fuel refining a rocket science? After sinking billions of dollars to maintain refineries and they fail to work, is that not willful sabotage? Meanwhile local boys can easily 'cook' out diesel from crude oil in the bush but the government commits billions and cannot do it.
In the case of Dangote refinery, you claim there's no crude oil to supply it but many of the oil wells in Nigeria today are capped and designated as reserve. I can tell you many locations of dormant oil wells in Nigeria today and nobody is doing anything with the crude oil there.
IF YOU KNOW WHAT CHINA WENT THROUGH TO GET TO WHERE THEY ARE TODAY!!!
China BANNED the importation of CARS for SEVERAL DECADES and said ''Oya everyone ride bicycles till we learn how to build our own cars!'' They banned almost every import for many decades up till the 90s when they finally opened up, after THEY had become self sufficient and competitive.
Millions were killed and jailed by the Chinese ruling party for opposing those reforms.
They were able to succeed because they were a DICTATORSHIP and still are. No democracy would have accepted those reforms, because they were extremely painful.
This Kperogi guy is VERY DEVIOUS AND MISCHIEVOUS.
Notice he never mentioned the real cause of the economic hardship, which was the REMOVAL OF FUEL SUBSIDIES.
Does he support our continued borrowing of 10 billion dollars a year to pay for petrol subsidies?
A country whose annual budget is 35 billion dollars?
HE IS SILENT ON THAT.
He just wants to point fingers and blame IMF, blame govt etc, WITHOUT STATING HIS POSITION ON THE WAY FORWARD.
Did you see him offer any alternative to the current path?
OF COURSE NOT.
Because he KNOWS there is no other feasible way to move forward.
Blasted crooked man.
PLEASE DON'T COMPARE NIGERIA AND CHINA AT ALL! WE ARE NOT IN THE LEAGUE OF CHINA. China is a country that has been existing as one CONTINUOUS civilization for the past 5000 years while the concept of Nigeria 64 years or 110 years if you count from 1914. China was a developed country surpassing European countries just 500 years ago. The great European sea voyages were started with just one purpose: To harvest the industrial products of China and to learn their technology. Europeans learned the technologies of gunpowder, printing press, magnetic compass, paper manufacturing, enamel ware manufacture, silk production, etc from China.
AFTER Europeans discovered Science and Industrialization beginning from the 1700s , they quickly out performed China in technological development. Europeans using the advantage of their superior technology tried dominate china in the 1800s and 1900s and China performed the COMMUNIST REVOLUTION OF 1948 to push out foreign domination of the country. The communist revolution and government proceeded on reforms THAT WILL INDUSTRIALIZE CHINA. They purged the country of all opposition figures allied to western countries trying to sabotage the reforms.
This is different from what is happening in Nigeria. No one should even mention Nigeria and China in comparison. The only thing they have in common is just the 1st October Independence day.
Max24: The coward will chicken out again. Didn't know Trump was a chicken after all. Upon all his mouth making he is running from a common black woman that he claimed was unintelligent. He can no longer grab them by the pus.s.i. Empty drum make the loudest noise.
Does Kamala Harris resemble a black woman? The answer is NO.
Verydarkhearted: They might still be sold from that motherless home too.. this time for rituals.. as long as it’s the mother that sold them.. it’s a legit transaction.
Rossikk: The idea of “tribe” was introduced by the colonia invaders.
Pre-colonial Africans did not identify themselves as “Igbos”, “Hausas” or “Yorubas”, especially not in a way to differentiate between THEIR group and others.
People identified by their lineage or ancestral town or village.
Back then a clan of Igbo speakers had no issue ganging up with a neighbouring village or clan of Yoruba speakers to attack an Igbo speaking village.
It was the colonialists who, to create blocs of division and rivalry, roped all speakers of a language into one “tribe”, and those of another, into another “tribe”.
It’s all FALSE and ENGINEERED.
If you actually did an ancestral DNA test, you would likely discover that your ancestors were migrants from a totally different part of the country.
Very very correct 💯. That explains why the illorin yorubas had no qualms in enlisting the fulani in their fight with the oyo yorubas.
As weird as it may sound, this is likely a true story. And it is very typical of women. Sometimes up to 3 or 4 men can be caught up in this web of deceit. The men can even go crazy when they finally find out.
Akpabio, you have been falling hand ever since you joined APC. Gaffe after gaffe, you are now a laughing stock. A comedian. A big joke. A ridiculous senate president. You don't even know the law you just passed? Meanwhile you used to be a dynamic and erudite governor who transformed Akwa Ibom state blazing a trail subsequent governors there are still following. So what happened? How are the mighty fallen?
We do have an installed capacity of 13 gw according to Nairametrics...the Siemens project would enable the grid transmit 25 gw or 25000 mw when completed.
Thanks for that correction on the actual capacity of kainji dam. But the issue is: what is stopping the utilization of the remaining 4 slots of the kainji dam since the 1970's? What could it be if not intentional sabotage?
nairalanda1: We got 13 gw , but the problem is transmission
Ultimately, the issue is one of the government not letting the power sector set its own prices, and many Nigerians not paying for power at all. Including your government agencies, and the presidency. All that means the sector cannot make a profit that would enable it fix things.
It's difficult to accept that the sector isn't making profits considering the humongous amounts they collect from paying customers every month with very little investment. After the paltry amounts the discos paid to acquire the distribution rights they didn't make any meaningful investment into the sector while they kept harvesting dividends. Where is all that money going?
Yusufisraelj: Really? Are sure of what you're saying?
That's a flat lie bro, you don't understand power generation, distribution and consumption.
Even if the entire power stations work at optimum capacity that's not enough for 24 hours light in the whole country, that's even with efficient disco's.
Energy demand 32 tera watt hour.
Energy generated 36 gigawatt hour.
This is 2022 data. Do your fundings as well.
Be wary of that fake data, my man. It's not real. It's just like the fake nnpc fuel consumption/demand data during subsidy. After subsidy removal it was found to be only a fraction of what they have been putting out. If you want to get a good estimate of the power capacity of Nigeria, list all the dams and gas power stations and sum up their capacities. Its more than 10GW. The power situation in Nigeria is just the same as the fuel situation.
