A factional paramount ruler of Alesa community in Eleme local government in Rivers state who was kidnapped in his bedroom in Alesa a week ago is still in captivity.

Dr. Isaac Eyii Ngulube is a lecturer, Rivers State University of Science and Technology and also the paramount ruler of Alesa, that hosted Port Harcourt Refinery Company.

Though some are saying, he has been released and is taking treatment in an undisclosed hospital, but when Holygist interviewed a prominent community leader in the area, who refused to disclose his name and pleaded for anonymity because he was not authorized to speak, he said…

He wonders how a paramount ruler whose community has been in tears and travails because of the incident could be released without celebration in the community. Some Effort was also made to inquire from his rival on the same Alesa throne, Chief Emperor J.D Nkpe but his phone was switched off. It would be recalled that the Alesa throne which has Chief Ngulube and chief Emperor J.D Nkpe on one side has been subjected to litigation for some years now.

Kidnappings has assumed a dangerous dimension in Eleme as no week passes without people been kidnapped, when Holygist inquires from some residents in the area, they attributed it to lack of political will on part of the council chairman,

They have been driven away because of their compromising standard,” On the part of the youth leaders who are supposed to assist the chiefs in their various communities, the stories are the same, the majority of them lives outside Eleme and one wonders how they could help and checkmate crimes and criminality from outside the community.

Others attributed it to rise in consumption of illicit drugs which promotes cultism, kidnappings, armed robbery, raping, pipelines vandalism other anti-social behaviors.
Some also blamed it on the poor handling of the state government Amnesty granted to some cultists without rehabilitating and properly integrating them

Ever since the monarch was abducted, business activities in the area are also affected, the palace of the traditional ruler which is always a beehive of activities is now deserted,

The governor said that Zamfara and Kogi States have vigilante outfits which were commissioned by the Nigerian Army and the APC Federal Government. He wondered why the Nigerian Army would stoop so low to disrupt a legal training exercise.

“Zamfara and Kogi States have vigilante groups. They commissioned them and the Chief of Army Staff did nothing. The House of Assembly passed a law approving the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency. The Chief of Army did not challenge the law in court, but today he sent troops to invade the training camp”, he said.

The governor regretted that the Nigerian Army has been turned into an outfit to stoke insecurity in order to attract huge security votes.

He said: “The Army is the agency causing insecurity mainly to attract more security votes. They collected $1Billion from our excess crude account, yet our soldiers were killed.

“We did not hire boys for political reasons. This has been a transparent process and that is why the personnel are trained at the NYSC Orientation Camp at Nonwa.

“We involved the Police and the DSS to ensure that the trainees are profiled for the good of the society. The main aim of this agency assist the security agencies with intelligence and information since there is a lacuna in this regard “, he said.

Governor Wike declared that the State Government will continue with the training. He said all the antics of the Nigerian Army will not deter the government and people of Rivers State.

“No one man has been a Chief of Army Staff forever. Every job has an expiry date. When Buratai leaves office, he will be held to account for his illegal actions.

“If they stop the training elsewhere, personnel of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency will be trained at the Government House Port Harcourt “, the governor said.

On Thursday, Hundreds of soldiers armed with armoured personnel vehicles invaded the training camp of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency, injuring several trainees.The training camp is located at Nonwa in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reports coming in from Nonwa of Tai Local Government Area, the training centre for newly employed members of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Corp, is to the effect that hundreds of Soldiers of the Nigerian Army have shut down the training camp based on “orders from above.”



The Neighbourhood Safety Corp, which is also operational in Lagos State, was set up by the Rivers State Government to assist the security agencies in the State manage security issues as well as provide jobs for Rivers people.





The Federal Government’s move to shut it down is not only illegal, it negates all legitimate efforts to promote peace and security in Rivers State and also provide jobs for Nigerians, most of whom have been left jobless by the bad economic policies of the APC led Government.

More troubling is the reason behind granting Lagos State leave to operate its own neighbourhood safety Corp and denying Rivers State the right to do hers by the intrusion of military fiat. The big question is whether Nigeria is now a pseudo-military regime.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) is set to inaugurate a N1 billion hostel it built for the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Kaduna State.

The management of the university described the Dangote hostel project as a “big relief,” saying that accommodation is one of the nightmares of the sprawling university.



The Director, Physical Planning and Municipal Services of the university, Muhammad Aminu Sambo said: “This is a big relief because the university has limited accommodation in relation to the number of students admitted every year. This is one of our nightmares.”

Speaking to journalists, Sambo said out of the over 50,000 students admitted yearly, the university could only provide accommodation for only about 13,000. He commended the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and urged all able Nigerians to emulate him and intervene in the education sector.



In his reaction, the Chief Architect of ABU, Yabani Abubakar, described the hostel as a monumental intervention, saying that it is a set of 10 blocks with 36 rooms each. Abubakar, who is the Chief Physical Planning and Development Officer (CPPDO), said the newly-built Dangote Hostel has been completed and will be inaugurated during the upcoming convocation ceremony.



According to him, as part of his commitment, Dangote visited the hostel recently and directed that new state-of-the-art facilities like solar power be installed. He said the hostel is located in Phase II section of the main campus and will be initially used as a wholly-male hostel from next academic session.



The Managing Director and CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, had said supporting education is one of the foundation’s priorities, adding that the ADF was recently endowed with $1.25 billion.



The National President of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Prof. Ahmed Tijani Mora, recently noted that the contribution of the foundation to the education sector, and more importantly to the school, is unprecedented and as a result, the alumni association conferred a Corporate Award on the business mogul.



The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, commended Dangote, saying that the support was timely as the university has limited accommodation facility for its students.



The group had recently donated a world-class Dangote Business School worth N1.2 billion to the Bayero University Kano and donated another Business School complex in the University of Ibadan, among other interventions.



Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man had said: “I do not only want to be known as Africa’s richest man but the biggest philanthropist. I will continue to use my resources and my voice to help shape a better Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”

I Have No Regret Reforming NOUN
Question? You were appointed to coordinate the largest Open Distance Learning (ODL) centre in Africa in 2016, how has the journey been so far?

First of all National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is not new to me. When the university was resurrected by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Olugbemiro Jegede was appointed as the coordinator of the university at that time and he invited some professors to assemble in Lokoja, in order to come up with the blueprint of the university and also to come up with study materials.

I was part of that team in 2003 where I developed two-course materials and after the course material development was finished, I was offered the faculty of education as the dean because I was a professor of science education that time. But I declined because I hate any position of power. I preferred to just simply be a lecturer but not an administrator.

When I came into the university, I got appointment letter on February 27 and I took over on 1st March 2016. The biggest challenge I faced was the fact that a new composite was created for the university in Jabi, Abuja and that was the biggest challenge. I found it very difficult to relocate from Kano to Lagos but it was a national duty and I had to do it.

So on the day of taking over in Lagos on the 1st of March, 2016, I informed the university community that we are moving to Abuja on the 25th of March and to be very fair to the university community. Nobody complained to my hearing, maybe they complained among themselves, but nobody came to me and confronted me that we are not going.

And so by 3rd April we have finished the total transfer from Lagos to Abuja and all the faculties at that time were there, here in Abuja the only was the administrative functions of the university. We appointed the deputy Vice Chancellor academics to be in charge of that Lagos office which we now call Lagos liaison office.

By August 2016, we informed four faculties in Lagos that they are moving to Abuja, these are the faculties of Art, Science, Social Science and faculty of Health Science. They moved on 4th August 2016. Again that challenge was that people had already paid their school fees and they had to relocate and start all over again. So the biggest challenge is shifting the main campus from Lagos to Abuja where it belongs because these structures as you see it, were created in just eight months.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been formally turbaned as the seventh Waziri of Adamawa Emirate.

The position of Waziri makes the former vice-president next to the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo, in the hierarchy in the emirate.

Speaking at the occasion, Barkindo said Atiku was honoured with the title of Waziri because of his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly Adamawa state, where his impact is felt in various sectors.

“Atiku has also contributed greatly to unifying the people of Adamawa and providing useful advise to the emirate,” he said.

“The position of Waziri, which is the highest in the council puts him in charge of administration of the emirate and is given to people who are educated, honest and God fearing.

“It’s not hereditary and can go to anyone who deserves it.”

While urging the new Waziri to continue to carry everyone along and unite the people of Adamawa for more development, Barkindo advised all other traditional title holders to and cooperate with the new Waziri.

In his remarks, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the FCT Minister, Alhaji Musa Bello, congratulated Atiku for the esteemed position given him and wished him a successful reign.

Also speaking, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, commended Lamido for upgrading Atiku from Turaki to Waziri.

“I assure you that he will carry out his tasks with dignity, respect, honour and you will be proud of him,” Obasanjo said.

In his acceptance speech, Atiku assured the emirate council and traditional institution of his commitment to continue to work for peace and unity of the emirate and the nation in general.

The Peoples Temple was a ministry of Jim Jones’ own devising. Jones convinced hundreds of his American followers to move to his compound, known as Jonestown, in the South American nation of Guyana. Of the 918 Americans who lost their lives in the Jonestown massacre on Nov. 18, 1978, investigators determined 907 died from ingesting poison, including nearly 300 children.

They used cyanide, and either injected it into people with syringes or mixed it with a powdered soft drink called Flavor Aid. Others were shot or stabbed that day. Jim Jones himself was found with a single bullet wound to the head.

Jim Jones, who was white, founded his ministry, the Peoples Temple, in Indiana, where they promoted social justice, racial and class equality and desegregation.

“I lived in a community that was filled with every walk of life, every color in the rainbow, every level of education. For the most part, we lived in harmony most of the time, especially early on,” Stephan said about his childhood. “It was not fake. I am so grateful for that because it showed me the truth of that, the beauty of that, the importance of that. So I loved that about him.”

Stephan said he believes his father’s primary purpose was to “bust down some walls and to create a community where all are welcome, no matter where they come from.”

But eventually, it became “all superficial,” Stephan said.

“There was nothing spiritual about my father. Of course, in my view of things, he had every bit the loved and juicy soul in him that everyone else does, but he had lost complete sight of that. His entire existence was superficial,” said Stephan.

In addition to their biological son, Stephan, Jim Jones and his wife, Marceline, had adopted children of Korean-American, African-American and Native-American descent.

The policy document was put together with a major delivery timeline of 2019 to 2025.
