[quote author=LisaAnne post=75957741]Over the years, many Nollywood actresses have come out to talk about their experiences, but have refused to name the perpetrators. Filmmakers, investors, and powerful actors asking for sexual favours to advance careers is just a better-kept dirty secret in Nollywood. But it does exist. It's my birthday also! A European court has ruled that Lionel Messi, the world's top earning footballer, can trademark his own name. The Barcelona and Argentina striker fought a seven-year fight to be able to use his name on sports goods. His original application was challenged by the Spanish cycling brand, Massi, which argued that the names were too similar and would cause confusion. But the EU's General Court ruled that the footballer was too well known for confusion to arise. The ruling comes days after France Football magazine reported Mr Messi had overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest earner in football, with an income of €126m (£108m). Advertisement Mr Ronaldo is making €94m, the magazine said. 'Fame' Mr Messi's application to trademark his name was made to the European Union Office for Intellectual Property (EUIPO) in 2011. It ruled against the footballer, saying the names were similar, because their dominant elements, "consisting of the terms 'Massi' and 'Messi', are almost identical visually and phonetically". EUIPO said that only some people would be aware the two were different. But the General Court, the EU's second highest court, disagreed. It said on Thursday: "The football player's fame counteracts the visual and phonetic similarities" with Massi. "Mr Messi is, in fact, a well-known public figure who can be seen on television and who is regularly discussed on television or on the radio," the court said. Widely considered one of the world's greatest soccer players, Mr Messi, 30, scored his 600th professional goal last month and is the all-time highest scorer for both Barcelona and Argentina's national team. The Lagos state police command today paraded a primary school dropout, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who has practiced as a medical doctor for four years in the state. Parading the suspect before newsmen, the state police commissioner, CP Edgal Imohimi, said Mohammed operated a clinic at Idi-Araba area in Mushin, where he administered intravenous injections to patients and also collected blood and urine samples for diagnosis. “Detectives from the Area D Command, Mushin, arrested one Abdulrahman Mohammed, a native of Ran Village in Gamboru Ngala local government area of Borno State for operating as a medical doctor at 3, Bamishile Street, Idi -Araba, whereas his education stopped at primary school level. Further investigation into the activities of Abdulrahman Mohammed, who has been impersonating as a medical doctor for the past four years revealed that he had been administrating intravenous injections, conducting medical test on his patients and taking urine and blood samples from his patients. He is cooperating with the police and we are working with him to ensure all unregistered drug stores are clamped down.” he said However, Mohammed has denied practising as a medical doctor. According to him, he only operates a chemist where he sells drugs to people living in his area. “I was a hawker. I was hawking drugs before I decided to open a pharmacy. I did not finish my primary school and I was not taught to sell the drugs. My pharmacy was not licensed. I do not treat people. I do not collect blood or urine samples. I only sell the kits and people come to buy it. For the thermometer, people used to come and check their temperature and other things by themselves. If someone comes and complained of headache and fever, I give them Panadol or Boscopan and blood tonic.” he said Source:www.lindaikejisblog.com

Wife of President Buhari, Aisha Buhari, has given reasons why she openly criticised her husband and threatened to withdraw her support for his re-election bid. Mrs Buhari in October 2016, granted an interview to BBC Hausa where she expressed disappointment at her husband's administration. In the interview, Mrs Buhari expressed doubt that she would support him if he seeks re-election unless he implemented immediate changes in personnel and policies. “He is yet to tell me if he’ll seek re-election but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.” Mrs Buhari said during the interview However in her acceptance letter to Vanguard newspaper who just made her their person of the year 2017, Mrs Buhari said she would now support his re-election bid. “One of the reasons adduced for honouring me was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I am part of. I need to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and not confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been. As we are all aware, Nigerians elected this administration based on the trust and confidence they have on my husband. I therefore feel that we are here to serve Nigeria to the best of our ability. Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and will continue to do so,” she stated in her letter by Linda Ikeji @www.lindaikeji..com |

Even at that He will not win. Those people coming for campaign are not the electorate; unless they have other plans like writing the election result from Abuja. |
Tomorrow somebody will come up and say 'one Nigeria'. This Kind of statement is highly condemnable. This is about the worst Statement I've read this year. Look at The U.K &Gordon Brown and other Scottish Prime Ministers before you vomit this kind of thing oga |
This is a very good development. At least it will save people like us the trouble of having to stay awake a night to the expiration of our data especially Glo that browses at the speed of snail |
Nice one. This is how it is done in advanced countries |
ON BIAFRA The Biafra agitation cannot be dismissed by a wave of the hand.Yes there is a genuine reason for the agitation. The country -Nigeria is in dire need of restructuring; there is need for social engineering. The inequality against people from the historical and geographical area called 'Biafra' is glaring. My take: I think the members of the indigenous people of Biagra (IPOB) should soft-pedal the struggle. There's need to apply caution at this point. It will be absolutely incorrect and even ridiculous for any mortal to postulate that the Biafra homeland will gain political and economic independence without a gunshot. Ironically there has been many gunshots already. Although I somehow believe Biafra will come some day -but not now.For a comparative analysis look at the Sri Lanka scenario( the Liberation Tamil Tigers Elam or LTTE) agitation and the outcome; also consider how South Sudan achieved independence. I am not in any way trying to condone injustice but it is imperative that the truth be told -and by someone from the 'Biafra' region. ON THE ANAMBRA ELECTION Yes the electoral umpire (INEC) has fixed the date of the election for November 18. I think every well-meaning Anambrarian that is Eligible should exercise their franchise on that day. My reason:If IPOB members and pro-Biafra supporters who happen to form the majority of APGA Support-base boycott the election, power may slip into the hands of the APC candidate -personally I have nothing against him.But I think if the only Honour we can give to Dim Ojukwu Hero extraordinaire of Blessed memory is allowing Anambra to be APGA Controlled will be just fair. © Uche-Donaldson just saying things the way they are |
