Education / Re: I Feel Depressed With A CGPA Of 4.2+ by Hopeful123: 9:37am On Nov 25, 2019
Your calculation is only based on the available information you have. Channel your energy into something else that would yield better result. Use that time to prepare for GRE and blast it. Do Tofel and blast it. Then apply to US schools masters or PHD you will get full funding. Forget about Nigeria scholarship.

Ithream:

..................

I did the maths...and I found out that the highest CGPA I can make is 4.2+ after my final year(2 semesters left) I feel terrible right now. How can I shift it to 4.3+ Cgpa? I have heard of students borrowing courses but I don't really know if this could be one of their reasons for doing such. Don't even bother yourself about borrowing courses. Your calculation is only based on the available information you have. Channel your energy into something else that would yield better result. Use that time to prepare for GRE and blast it. Do Tofel and blast it. Then apply to US schools masters or PHD you will get full funding. Forget about Nigeria scholarship.

....... I am not in anyway trying to make it look like having such a CGPA is bad or I am ungrateful. It's just that I have plans of applying for scholarships to study abroad but won't such a Gp hinder me? No it won't You lack information check this thread out - -- https://www.nairaland.com/1832477/how-achieve-high-scores-gre/76

Pls I need someone to placate me with motivational words. I feel like a looser. --- You already won, it is just that you dont know it yet, 4 out of 5 CGPA is more than enough to get you a US scholarship.
sad sad

Enculer:

That is it. Brilliant. I have 91 questions in total. 3 question text, 4 question text and fill in the gap.

Salut Bhussola,

I am interested. I sent you a PM. I am just starting though, so I am not writing anytime soon. But would like to connect.

Bhussola:
Hello house, how's everyone doing? It's been awhile and how's the French journey going? Mine has been very tedious o especially writing and listening but I keep at it. So just saw today's draw was 470 & it put the fear of God in me but we go pass by God's grace. Please i need a study buddy/buddies that plan to write the exams by September/October? Cos I noticed i'm somewhat relaxed even with my tutor. I live in Lagos by the way even better if you stay around the egbeda axis. However, ikeja is an option also. Please anyone interested should respond...let's say i'm on A2/B1 sha

Good luck

Bellerin:
Just retook the TEF at AF Ibadan...

CE: long texts (biere vert, pantheon, globe trotters, la Societe actuel)

EE: 1. Une biche dans un supermarche (wink wink mamaroon)
EE: 2. les pays ressemble a cause de tourisme

EO 1: Call someone so you can test video games
EO 2: Convince a friend to take up a service that proposes gym classes outside.

We'll see in 3 - 4 weeks. Was undecided about taking it but eventually made the trip...met cool people.

Cheers to y'all preparing. Bonne chance!

Nice info on TCF

I have a few questions on both please for the purpose of self evaluation.

1) Does anyone have an idea of how TEF scores are calculated to get this Reading - 300 total and Listening - 360 total?

considering that in the manual ir says there are Listening - 60 questions, 1 point for each correct answer. Can one just multiply by 6?? so if I get all 60 questions right that is 360 points?

Reading - 50 questions, 1 point for each correct answer. Can I just multiply by 6?

On TCF

As it is computer based. Is the scoring automated for all section including the speaking and writing? Or just like TOEFL where the speaking is recorded and writing typed on a computer but is scored by human rater?

If scored by Human rater, how does one compete favorably in a french speaking country.

You know there is an aspect of subjectivity to speaking and writing. Like in lome or cotonou for example, others are speaking fluently and then when it is a Nigerian turn person start to dey speak with English accent. will it not be advisable to do it in Lagos where the examiner will be hearing similar accent and even appreciate say we try small.

Please comments would be appreciated. Thanks

If there is no other way to improve then give it all you've got.

Lets do this. Afterall there is a precedence already. NJ..... did it.

You also learned English and most likely your mother tongue too.

Just start and may God give us the strength to finish.

Canadahome:

I need some encouragement. My score is 445. I have used up all other options.

I am left with TEF, I find it hard to learn languages. Please, anyone in the same boat?

So true

I started with the Michel Thomas training. I am picking one or two words by listening to the french cartoons I downloaded. PJ mask french. lol words like vision, desole etc

The kids are enjoying the cartoons while I listen as well. win win for everyone.

Though for now it is mostly just sounding strange. like a Ghanaian language to me.

DexterousOne:

See what I would advise you to do
The key to learning languages quick is to learn as how children learn

go to RFI.fr
DownDownload the tapes there
And be listening
Even tho you do not understand
Just keep listening

Then you begin to note some words
Then you learn one word today ), another tomorrow like that...

Then you start to pronounce the words you hear on the tapes....

Once you got this right for some months
Then you start learning grammar
And start adding to your vocabs

Going to Alliance Framçais will also help.

I have learnt multiple languages using the technique above
That is how children learn languages
And it's the best way

Hi all,

I'm just starting on this journey.

From what I read on this thread it seems it is very possible to go from zero knowledge of french to B2 level and to have TEF LRSW 249+, 207+, 310+, 310+ in 8 months.

It may take me more than 8 months or 1 year, but for me It doesn't matter how long it takes. I'm going to learn this.

Thanks all for your contribution, I have download and noted all the advise and tips.

I pray I continue to have the strength to continue learning. Please I will be sending PM to some people just to connect and get inspiration. Thanks.
