Politics / Do You Know You Can Contest An Estimated Nepa Bill? by hpaje(m): 3:52pm On Jul 04, 2017
It's so annoying that most people don't even know their rights since NEPA/PHCN became a private owned entity. People are still of the mindset that when the transformer spoils, they should contribute and fix it; but that mindset should be washed away. If the Private company want to make money, let them fix it themselves. Apart from the MD (Maximum Demand) customers who have been mandated by NERC(Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission) not to pay their bills until they are metered, Do you know you can CONTEST AN ESTIMATED BILL with your DISCO?

In case you don't know your rights, here they are.

1. All new electricity connections must be done strictly based on metering before connection. That is, no new customer should be connected by a DisCo without a meter first being installed at the premises.
2. All customers have a right to electricity supply in a safe and reliable manner.
3. All customers have a right to a properly installed and functional meter.
4. All customers have a right to properly informed and educated on the electricity service.
5. All customers have a right to transparent electricity billing.
6. All Un-metered customers should be issued with electricity bills strictly based on NERC’s estimated billing methodology.
7. It is the customer’s right to be notified in writing ahead of disconnection of electricity service by the DisCo serving the customer in line with NERC’s guidelines.
8. All customers have a right to refund when over billed.
9. All customers have a right to file complaints and to the prompt investigation of complaints.
10. All complaints on electricity supply and other billing issues are to be sent to the nearest business unit of the DisCo serving the customer.
11. If a complaint is not satisfactorily addressed, customers have a right to escalate the issue to the NERC Forum Office within the coverage area of the DisCo.
12. Customers have the right to appeal the decision of the NERC Forum Office by writing a petition to the Commission.
13. It is the customer’s right to contest any electricity bill.
14. Any un-metered customer who is disputing his or her estimated bill has the right not to pay the disputed bill, but pay only the last undisputed bill as the contested bill go through the dispute resolution process of NERC.
15. It is not the responsibility of electricity customer or community to buy, replace or repair electricity transformers, poles and related equipment used in the supply of electricity.

Investment / My Verdict On This Cryptocurrency Madness!! by hpaje(m): 11:30am On Jan 24, 2017
It's quite amazing how crazy Nigerians go when they hear that glorious word “MONEY” and how to increase it. With the advent of various forms of cryptocurrencies, payment systems has been made better, faster transfers, ease of business BUT the underside of it has really been usurped by the Boyz!
From Peer-to-Peer help systems that are thwarted at will since the cryptocurrencies are decentralized and no one can trace them; to HYIP schemes that gives absurd rate of interests for little amount invested. The question still resonates louder and louder each passing day, who makes the money?
Well, that’s where I come in. For the genuine ones, the first three generations make the money and please don’t ask the math of it. For the fake ones, it’s usually the Initiator that makes it. A friend told me of a P2P System where the Initiator generated numerous bitcoin accounts and carefully spread them in the system such that they appeared under different names and referral; it eventually crashed when downlines refused to pay some uplines which in this case the downline was one of the initiator’s numerous accounts. For those who could even pull it off, they still have the battle of an unreasonable deadline to get referrals or upgrade to the next level regardless of the fluctuating value in price of their cryptocurrencies.
As long as you are willing to risk a small part of your cryptocurrencies, you unwillingly contribute to the success and menace. While we are it, my thought wanders off to the greater picture of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment not investment because the only investments now are Ponzi Schemes, P2P systems and HYIP’s... The technology on which the cryptocurrencies are built is quite solid so I am hoping Nigeria as would create her own cryptocurrency and help ease payments across the continent.
