I disagree with this. 65 year old Australians work because they have nothing to fall back on. Work isn't fun and doesn't enable them to exercise their bodies. Work is even more brutal over there.

These western nations -- US, Canada, France, Australia, and others -- are extremely capitalist. They want to take the last drop of your soul out of you and require you to keep working to pay bills after bills after bills for your daily survival.

The average Nigerian retires at 58 - 65 and is still able to live a decent life almost comparable to when they were working.

You can never compare that to Australia where they have to work into their 80s to keep body and soul together. And when they're no longer able to work anymore, they're thrown into an old people's home and the cycle continues.

You're new to the system, so it's still "freaking" you. You even hope to get your accounting job back someday. I hate to be the one to say this, but the possibility of you getting that job back is very low.

You've already been sucked into, and will continue to be sucked into, this forklifting/labouring career and the longer you stay in it, the harder it is to switch to accounting.

You speak so authoritatively about him not being able to get back into accounting. Any reasons for that?

For me measure of progress is different.
A toilet cleaner in Australia lives a much better life than the regional manager of Zenith bank in Nigeria.

You are a man and an authority of your own, an authority over yourself and your home.

If you judge your decision is right, then stay beautiful and let others say what they want to say. After all we have different lives and we live differently.

What id just like to add is that you can be an accountant and move to another country and decide to change career. You don’t have to be an accountant all your life as long as you find joy in what new you are doing.

1. You can be a warehouse manager soon.
2. You can be an accountant for warehouses
3. You can be a forklift instructor or trainer
4. You can find a job in core account with your Aussie experience soon
5. A forklift company auditor
6. Warehouse auditor
7. Warehouse QC etc

The opportunities are limitless and I pray you find Gods grace.

Cheers.

No, it doesn't take humility to beg. It takes shamelessness, greed, and the intent to swindle to beg. Most begging is not genuine, and you may notice that the person you've been giving money to ten years ago may still be beginning you ten years later.

I still have people who begged me for money twenty years ago, still begins today. I just stopped responding to one two months ago. Is that humility or shamelessness?

Partly true.

Occasionally, asking for help isn't about shame or humility, it could simply be a request from a place of lack.

But perpetual begging is a thing of shamelessness - This is true

There is nothing wrong with a woman wanting to be a housewife. As far as she understands what it means to be a wife, and will carry her duty with grace, a woman can choose to be just a housewife, and it's not just good, it's honorable.

Not every woman is ambitious, and lots of women are working because they can't trust men enough to be financially dependent on them.

Looks to me like there’s everything wrong with a woman wanting to be a housewife. It's almost called being lazy and having an entitlement mentality. It's a different thing if the husband insists on her being one but when it's a choice coming from her, then please be weary.

The day wey the man no go fit meet up with some of him regular bills e go come know whether e truly marry the "housewife" wey love am or housewife wey marry am cause he's taking care of her bills.

I have not lived in the UK, so I can't tell you specifically about it. But I'll write generally on succeeding in your new host country, which can equally be applicable to the UK. So here you go.

1. Integration. This is number one. Generally in the UK, it would be easy since you don't need to learn a new language, but linguistic integration is just one slice of the pie.

You also need social integration, so you must understand what your host society considers a good citizen and also, a classy citizen. Then be that person.

Speak the language very well. And if you already speak English, polish it to speak succinctly. Eloquence is the mark of an educated person.

2. Then for social integration, find your taste in the local cuisine, and act like a local. Know politics like who is the city mayor, and have an opinion about something, although avoid controversy. If you're still young, join the gym. It's a perfect place to meet cool guys. Lift weight together, and join a sports club.

For example, I'm in an Adidas running club, and in my city, I'm one of the top runners. You need to see the kind of esteem I get when we meet, because my dedication shines.

3. Then professionally, rise to the top of your career, since this will single handedly make life easy for you. Dating becomes easier, buying a house and establishing oneself becomes easy also.

Doing all these will bring respect to you, you will respect yourself, and you'll feel like home. Racism won't bother you much because even the so called racist can see that you're living a fabulous life.

The inability or unwillingness of lots of African men to integrate is the reason why they suffer abroad. They are stuck with low skill jobs that are muscle-based, that an illiterate deaf and dumb can do.

The top always feels better than the bottom. When one is at the bottom, no matter where you are, life will be miserable. So because many of these brothers can't rise up the social hierarchy, they alleviate their disenfranchisement by, for example, importing a wife.

And that project carries another problem that won't happen to them if they try to integrate. So after he imports a wife, she will come to see that he is a loser in that society, and the "abroad privilege" he had when she was still in Nigeria will be ineffective.

When she starts studying, upgrading herself while the brother carries her responsibility with those low skill jobs, then she becomes established and concludes that he is not good enough for her. Which if he is honest with himself, she is right.

You don't let yourself rot at the expense of lifting someone up. You build yourself as well. Also, you can not tell if she sees you as a ticket out of Naija, or loves you genuinely. Whichever the case, the best strategy is to avoid such risk.

Because even is she loves you genuinely, the new society will change her, and the love for you deactivates later on, and you'll have more to loose, compare to for example, a local you married.

I strongly believe that we have the power to prevent many of the evils that befalls us, if we understand the role we play in it. Because at the end of the day, no woman wants to feel like she is saddled with a loser.

So if you upgrade yourself and integrate properly, you'll go higher and mingle with the upper class of your host country. No point going backward by importing a wife and attempting to live a life you left in your new country.

Not saying some men ain't lucky, but many I have seen are not. I'm referring to men that refuse to upgrade and stuck with low skil jobs. Even if the marriage didn't break, he will be thoroughly emasculated.

In a nutshell, you must do three things. Linguistic integration, social integration, and professional integration. Then it shall be well with you.

About your second question, I don't know. There are only three English speaking countries in Europe. UK, Ireland, and Malta. I haven't lived in any and can't comment.

But if I'll pick from the above, then I'll choose Ireland. Because it's in the EU, and they have this agreement with the UK called the "Good Friday agreement".

It means that as an Irish (which you'll become later on), you can live in the UK unlimitedly like a Brit, and also, you're an EU citizen and live and work and establish anywhere in your EU.

I hope I helped.

You are amazing.

Nigerians still see Canada and the UK and also the US as it was like twenty years ago. They still see the UK like James Bond movies, and the US like nollywood potrays.

France also has joined their league. If you land Paris Central bus station Bercy) for example, the kind of smell and urine, and people sleeping on benches will shock you.

If you walk there at night and act like a JJC, you'll be robbed or maybe stabbed if you prove stubborn. When people point to the decline of the West, things like this are what they saw.

Canada own disappoint me pass because it's a really huge country, with uncountable resources and little population, but the citizens are living like beggars. Na wa

Politics / Re: Atiku/Wike Face Off Divides PDP In Cross River State by HRtechnique: 3:01am On Jan 12, 2023
Buddha3:

The blunt truth is, Cross River State is one of the "swing" states where this year's Presidential and Gubernatorial elections are concerned. I'll explain:

The Gubernatorial elections rest solely between Sandy Onor of the PDP and Prince Bassey Otu of the APC. The Labour Party candidate is an unknown variable whose chances are practically non-existent. Now, historically Cross River has always been a PDP state since the advent of our modern democracy, until Ben Ayade took the Governorship seat to APC. His performance in office has been 12 feet beneath woeful and the large chunk of the masses have not forgiven him for taking the state backwards in leaps. His decamping to APC didn't exactly do much to launder his already battered political image, but he has thousands of appointees who have been on the government payroll through his tenure. Those are loyalists you cannot play down. Then there is the issue of the APC governorship candidate, Prince Otu, who is very loved around Cross River for his personality. Also, it is pertinent to mention here, that there's always been a gentleman agreement on rotation of the power stool. Ayade is wrapping up the turn of the North and by virtue of that agreement, it should return to the South, where Prince Otu hails from. So, for APC, there's the power of incumbency (though from a failed governor), the presence of thousands of appointees spread across the 18 LGAs, a governorship candidate who is loved and is from the right region as regards zoning, and the option of money politics, which though plays a small part in Cross River politics but cannot be swept away completely. For PDP, there is the inherent love of the masses for the party which always plays a major role to swing votes in the party's favour, a governorship candidate who's from the Central and that defies the zoning arrangement, presence of major state stakeholders with the money politics capacity, the spread and the grassroot influence (And I have to mention that this is the one factor that can turn the election in their favour, if well harnessed). But sadly, the PDP has been too confident and are not doing enough grassroot mobilisation for this election, because they feel "Cross River is PDP", and this might cost them hugely. Summarily, neither I or anyone can confidently boast of gubernatorial victory this year. It can go both ways.

However, for the Presidential elections, the emergence of Peter Obi is a huge dent on the status quo. The 8years of Buhari's torrid reign so far inflicted pain down to the village farmers. And even though Labour Party has not come close to doing enough sensitization, the rural areas are well informed of his person and youths have taken it upon themselves to sell his candidacy. It is working. Way beyond what anyone would have expected. Cross River Facebook groups are all replete with Peter Obi, what he brings to the table, his party flag, the message of hope. Old market women even know that on the day of the Presidential elections, they're to put their thumbs next to the "family" logo. Yes, Tinubu will get votes, but the majority of the votes will be spread between Atiku and Obi. To be frank, if the PDP continues with their lackadaisical attitude towards voter sensitization simply because they still believe "Cross River is PDP", Obi will wipe the floor with Atiku, even if the margin might not be that large.

Reason I said Cross River is a swing state.

Just going through Nairaland. I read this and saw objectivity in your analysis. You were clear-headed and its quite educational. I'd have to go through your threads and comments.

By the way, if you don't mind, do you think Obi would win the presidential election? I really want him to win (I and my wife are ready to vote) and who will you be voting for?

Keep arguing!!!

It's not everyone that's in a spiritual point as you.
Sometimes, it is important to remove oneself from certain battles.

Even Jesus did when they sought to kill him. He removed himself from among them because he thought its better at the time. Though in his own case he only needed to ask Angels to come and do the fight.

However, this brother have also rented a new place so there is no point fighting sir.

Though it's better to build himself spiritually, not for only now but for the battles ahead. The battle is strongest where there is glory @op please note.

We don't really have elections in Nigeria but fraud. That's why you see them seriously consulting now. Regardless of your standing in the sun for long hours to vote, it won't count. INEC would declare who bribes them well and then tell you to go to court.

I doubt if there have ever been free and fair election in Nigeria. Hence, I won't be voting. They can't have me waste my time and also risk my life in the name of election that won't count.

Your mind has been manipulated by "what is" and have therefore lost foresight to whats possible.

More importantly for me from this thread is the awesome power of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ of Nazareth the son of God.
This for me, through your accounts, further affirms that God is stronger, powerful and ready to save at all times if we just turn a new leaf.

Most people who do not believe there is a God can through this thread, know that there is a God and that there are dark powers and that God Almighty is the greatest of all.

Matthew 11 vs 28.
