Now, you do the math of the potential hurt America and Americans would suffer should this coalition reciprocate Trump's hostility towards them. Europeans will suffer a while as they adjust to the re-alliance, but the hurt it will do to the Republicans in the US during the mid-terms would be the end of Trump.

To answer your question of doing business with totalitarian regimes...if that will change anything at all it would have happen years ago. Do you know that the entire Europe depends on Russia for gas. And transactions have been going on despite their differences on Ukraine and other issues, like Moscow annexation habit.

Ordinarily and historical, EU's alliance with the US is partly responsible for their beef with the Russians. Again, do the maths.
