As if political patronage and reciprocity are peculiar to Nigeria. It is a feature of politics worldwide, including in advanced democracies like the United States. We sometimes make a mountain out of what is essentially a normal feature of political mobilisation.

Yes, it is wise for a politician to be mindful of those who sponsor his campaign, but that does not automatically mean every sponsor can arm-twist a governor into doing their bidding.

The opposition in Ogun appears to be throwing every available dirt at Yayi’s candidacy and hoping something eventually sticks, especially since the earlier attempts have failed to do the expected damage.

But I genuinely wonder how their “daddy-fed” candidate intends to run a government if he wins. Are we simply heading towards another family-run government in Ogun State?

At this point, it would be more useful for him to put the feeder aside and demonstrate some political maturity by telling the people, in plain terms, what he actually has in stock for them. February is fast approaching. I just hope we don't get to a situation where a spoilt brat starts sulking and retrieving electricity transformers he donated to communities simply because he lost their votes.
