Huru, the bottom line is an average Nigerian is just too lazy they are not so productive and yet the want to make fortunes out of their employers. They want instant money on a daily bases this is one of the reasons why this country find it so difficult to move forward. No matter how hard you try for them that laziness and stealing atitude is always in their DNA.
I will also appreciate it if we can discuss the minimum wages to pay farm workers managing 1000birds .I wantto know if am over paying or underpaying my workers.
Oya all the Ogas in the house over to you, @ jamp how are your birds in this hot Abuja weather?

Next time when you observe any wound or abnormal behaviour remove the bird and provide first aid
treatment.
By attending or visiting your farm on daily bases supervising your staff work will curtail them from killing your bird.tell your staff the total number of birds in the pen.if any one is missing tell them you will deduct it from their salary. Any mortality must be examined and recorded.if your morality chart is going up then your staff are playing over you the same thing is applicable to eggs proper recording will give you what is going on in your farm.
Pay good salary to your worker
. @ Obnelly how much is a good salary for farm attendants in a farm of 1000 and/or 5000 birds capacity? What disciplinary action would you take on your farm attendants if you lost 29 laying birds due to heat and 2 surface pumping machines, as a result of his/her failure to server/pump water for birds, and to use fogger or spray water on them. My people poultry business is very stressful especially when you have attendants who aren't serious and/or do not value your investment. It's not also easy to get loyal employees nowadays, it will help us all if farm management challenges and solutions are discus/shared, so we all can learn.

Haaaa! oga jamp that is cruel! they wan put you out of bizness? yoga always motivate your staff through giving of incentives sha.

I still here ooo, just trying to get things going, has not been easy. especially my workers stealing over 230 bags of feed from the farm and over 200 grown 2kg and above birds. It is crazy.

You mean a business owner should give incentives after salary to stop his/her staff from stealing?

..
Oh no. That's why sensitivity test is important. So there are no good vets in abuja? Is there no animal care lab in abuja?

@ FarmTech, the Vets I had work with can not call Vet at all and yes no lab at all in Abuja. Most culture and sensitivity test are either sent to Vom (Jos) or Ibadan. It's that bad
Agriculture / Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by huru: 3:15pm On Sep 17, 2014
@ Jamp, Farmtech and Agrotconsult thank you. I finally did culture and sensitivity test though stressful as I had to send all the way to Ibadan from Abuja. The result shows my birds has build resistance to a lot of antibiotic, (doxycycline, tylosin tartrate, erythromycin, colistin sulphate, penicillin, amoxicillin, gentamicin and ciprofloxacin etc) the test also shows Salmonella spp, Proteus spp, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. Seriously, I wonder if most of the vet in Abuja really know their job, all they do is bombarding birds with antibiotic. Farmers are constantly told to consult their Vet but how many Vet do we really have? There's egg glut and an increase in price of feed from animal care. May God help us.

@ AgrotConsult and all my oga. please what could be the cause of losing birds after routine Lasota, as I lost 10 birds yesterday. I read somewhere that the presence of complicating pathogens in birds, mainly mildly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (MPAI) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), could cause mild outbreak of Newcastle and mortality after routine Lasota. AgrotConsult: gastro-intestinal diseases more like pullorium due to moldy feeds/change of feeds/salmonella infections from contaminated feeds/undigestive fatty diets contained in d feeds- just cleanse n flush out the guts of all stock now by giving them any of these in their drinking water throughout d day for two days n try to check if they have swollen heads/watery eyes/grasping breathe/piece of feeds sticking on their beak, etc any of d following will do;epsom salt/castrol oil/ mycoplasim-(drug)-kepcroc: note! epsom salt IS NOT D NORMAL TABLESALT/ kepcroc; a bottle-liquid drug can cure dz symptoms_if u insist on giving them antibiotic judging by their current situation it will not work but rather get more worse. What they need nw is abdominal cleansing/flushing. U rear on floor range system so do wat is neccessary nw clean/take full sanitary measures/change litter beddings/check for other signs/symptoms/isolated any diseased looking bird

Thank you but the birds are on 7days Selko PH (2ml/1ltr) already. what's Epsom salt/ castro oil dosage?

BRIGHTSOLAR: How Bright Biogas System Work

Bright Biogas Make Use Of A Relatively Simple, Well-Known, And Mature Technology. A Biogas System Comprises A Large Tank, Or Digester. Inside The Tank, Bacteria Work Symbiotically To Convert Organic Waste Into Methane Gas Through The Process Of Anaerobic Digestion.

Every Day, The User Of A Bright Biogas Feed The Bacteria Inside The Digester With Household By-Products Such As Market Waste, Kitchen Waste, And Manure From Livestock.

The Methane Gas Produced By The Bacteria Inside Bright Biogas Can Be Used For Cooking, Lighting, And Other Energy Needs.

Waste That Has Been Fully Digested Exits The Bright Biogas In The Form Of Organic Fertiliser And Is Good For Fish Meal
How much is it?
