Politics / INEC Under Pressure To Return Zakari To Operations by HzRF(m): 7:50am On Oct 15, 2018
Deji Elumoye in Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is under pressure from some strong political players in the presidency to return the National Commissioner on Health and Welfare, Mrs Amina Zakari, to her former operations beat from where she was posted last week by the National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, THISDAY learnt at the weekend.

The presidency also said yesterday that it was seeking the understanding of the National Assembly over the funding of INEC’s budget for the general elections billed for the first quarter of 2019, saying it would not confront the federal legislature over its virement of funds from the Special Intervention Programme (SIP) estimates instead of the National Assembly’s projects votes as requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.

THISDAY sources said at the weekend that INEC had come under intense pressure to return Zakari, a relation of Buhari to operations, which is the engine room of election management of the commission.
Zakari and four other national commissioners had reshuffled by Yakubu last week after leaders of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senate President Bukola Saraki, marched on INEC and Police Headquarters, protesting the handling of the governorship election in Osun State last month.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, had defeated the PDP’s Senator Ademola Adeleke after a controversial run-off that international and local observers carpeted for what they called undue interference by security forces.

Zakari, who had been variously accused of skewing election processes in favour of the ruling APC, obviously on account of her relationship with Buhari, was particularly accused by the PDP of turning the tables against it in Osun State.
The INEC National Commissioner in charge of Osun, Oyo and Ogun States, Mr. Adedeji Soyebi, also got caught up in the web of the protest and was posted to the commission’s electoral institute.

But THISDAY was told that the presidency had been uncomfortable with the postings, coming few months to the general elections and want them reversed.

INEC sources told the newspaper, however, that it’s National Chairman, Yakubu, is resisting the pressure but wondered how long he would hold his ground.
The commission’s reaction was not available last night as calls to the phone of the chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, did not go through.

Meanwhile, the presidency yesterday foreclosed any confrontation with the National Assembly over how to source the approved funds for the 2019 general elections in the country.

Rather, it would engage the legislature on how to amicably resolve the issue.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, told THISDAY on phone, “We will not engage in any fight with the legislature over where the funding of the approved 2019 election budget will come from.”
He said the presidency was currently working on how to have a better understanding of the issue with the legislature as represented by the National Assembly.

The presidential aide added that a conference of both the executive and legislature was currently being held to fashion a model for the funding of next year’s general elections.
His words, “The two parties have started meeting since the Senate passed the INEC election budget last Thursday and we will continue to meet and very soon the issue of funding will be resolved amicably.”

Enang further said the executive had resolved to henceforth collaborate with the National Assembly on how to move the nation forward through purposeful legislation, saying, “This is clearly being displayed in our approach to the issue of funding of 2019.
The Senate had on Thursday while passing the INEC budget for 2019 polls approved N189 billion for the elections, which will be vired from N500bn SIP approved in the N9.12 trillion 2018 budget .

This is contrary to the request of the president, who had in separate letters of request for virement of money for INEC budget for the conduct of the 2019 general elections urged the National Assembly to source the election funds from the N578bn special votes inserted into the budget by the federal lawmakers for execution of about 1,403 additional projects included in it.
But the Senate in its adoption of the five-page report of its Committee on Appropriation, which sought approval for the virement, On Thursday vired the N189bn from the N500bn earlier appropriated for SIP proposed by the executive in the 2018 budget.

The Senate Committee headed by Senator Danjuma Goje (APC Gombe Central), in its recommendation under source of funding had advised, “That the sum of N189, 007,272,393bn requested for the funding of the 2019 general elections should be vired from both recurrent and capital components of Special Intervention Programme captured in the service wide votes of the 2018 Appropriation Act”
The committee in the adopted report, which was not endorsed by five out of the 19-man committee namely Senators Sunny Ogbuoji, Barau Jibrin, Adedayo Ibrahim, Tayo Alasoadura and Mohammed Hassan, recommended further that the sum of N45.5billion provided for INEC in the statutory transfers should be added to the vired N189bn which makes the total budget profile of INEC in the 2018 budget to N234,507, 272,393billion.

Specifically the committee in the adopted report, emphasised that while N144.7bn will be vired from N350bn recurrent component of the special intervention votes, the remaining balance of N44.2bn will be vired from N150bn capital component of the Special Intervention Programmes votes.

Politics / Buhari ‘too Weak’ To Sign Afcta, Says Obasanjo by HzRF(m): 5:12pm On Oct 13, 2018
Expresses hope that Nigeria will soon have a president who will endorse the agreement
By Kunle Aderinokun and Obinna Chima in Bali, Indonesia

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Saturday described President Muhammadu Buhari’s delay in signing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a sign of weakness by the president.

Obasanjo said this on Saturday while speaking at the second Babacar Ndiaye lecture series organised by Afreximbank in Bali, Indonesia, on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings.

“We now have the Continental Free Trade Agreement which is a good idea and I can assure that Nigeria will soon sign.

“Hopefully we will soon have a president who will be able to sign because the president that is there now, his hands are too weak to sign,” he added.

Details later…

Politics / Re: Based On These Conditions, PDP Can Win Or Lose Osun Rerun Elections by HzRF(m): 2:17pm On Sep 26, 2018
DStatAnalyst:
Based on the conditions below, PDP will lose the rerun election. PDP needs to work against the conditions to win and APC needs to work towards the conditions to win.

- The top four parties working together for APC against PDP
- Last saturdays election's voting pattern replicating itself
- All the voters that collected PVCs in the 'rerun' units vote

DETAILED ANALYSIS
*PDP's result percentage (using the top five parties results) from last saturday
Osogbo - 28.4%
Ife South - 25.7%
Ife North - 30.4%
Orolu - 49.4%

*Total PVCs collected in the 'rerun' LGAs
Osogbo - 677
Ife South - 791
Ife North - 320
Orolu - 806

With all conditions above fulfilled, PDP will have 890 votes tomorrow and APC will have 1704 votes. Adding this to the results on ground, your guess is as good as mine!

Stop fooling around

Politics / Re: The Arrogance That May Cost The Adeleke's Osun Government House by HzRF(m): 1:38pm On Sep 26, 2018
callthefred:
Disclaimer: This is strictly my personal view and opinion

To many including Doyin Okupe who suddenly start name calling Iyiola Omisore because he has decided to work for the APC should all cover their heads in shame simply because he turned them down. It is important to know that PDP made Omisore as much as Omisore made PDP especially in Osun state.

He singlehandedly brought that party to the state after falling out as deputy governor to the then governor Bisi Akande. The PDP's first ever recorded victory was in Ile-Ife after the death of Odunayo Olagbaju (RIP).

Few years later, the PDP took power while Omisore was in prison for alleged murder of the late Chief Bola Ige, as we all know politicians only play the game for interest (personal interest), when the PDP lost power to Aregbesola, all party heavyweights abandoned the party including the late Senator Adeleke, Former Governor Oyinlola etc. Omisore and Erelu Obada stood aground to face the APC government and tried as much to keep the party afloat. However, suddenly there was a gang up and this was rightly so as Iyiola Omisore has always been a tough headed and stubborn character. Truth is no tree can make a forest but a pack of trees cannot be called a forest if "Iroko" tree is absent. Letting Omisore who kept the party against divisions in Osun and South West leave without any persuasion just because the Adeleke's are money bags was a miscalculation.

Omisore's grouse with PDP:

Fayose factor:

For those who may not know, Governor Fayose was amongst those who betrayed Omisore amongst other factors and cost him his 2014 governorship victory simply because Fayose feared Omisore may challenge him if he ever became governor for the sole leadership of the PDP in the South West. If both men had becomes governors then, Omisore would have outshone Ayo as a better politician. Need to say Fayose has a vice presidential ambition for 2019.

Wike factor:

If what Deji Adeyanju twitted after the gubernatorial election was anything to go by, Wike is plotting to weaken the PDP by allowing the party field a less popular candidate so Buhari can defeat such candidate then Wike himself can be the party's flag bearer come 2023, simply because if any Northerner wins now he will control the party and may jettison Wike's dream. Also, General Babangida had warned PDP in it's last convention to make a South Westerner the party's chairman but Wike knew he couldn't control any of the South Westerners who vied for the post hence he chose his boy, Secondus. Secondus later plotted the exit of Omisore from the party. No one wants an heavyweight to challenge their authority.

The Adeleke's:

Asides Davido who seems to be a free spirited character, the leaders of the Adeleke clan have always been on the bad pages with Omisore, in 1993 when Late Sen. Adeleke became governor, Omisore was one of those who supported him secretly but when that government was in power Omisore wasn't exactly recognized. Moving to the current dispensation, Sen. Adeleke had already discarded the PDP after it lost power in Osun and towards 2014, the late Senator came on air 3 months to the poll to claim President Jonathan had called him to run for the PDP ticket, Jonathan rebuffed the story and 3 weeks to elections, Adeleke decamped to the APC while former governor Oyinlola decamped 3 days to election. The rest is now history.

Unfortunately, after the death of the late Serubawon, Ademola and political leaders in Ede land and PDP in Osun then resolved to work for Ademola as Omisore was sponsoring the LP candidate due to fractionalization of the PDP (Ali Modu Sheriff), Omisore had to collapse his LP mchinery for the PDP Ademola won the election and became a PDP member, the agreement then was when the time comes, Omisore would have their support as well. Months later there was a gang up against Omisore, Ademola has the new leader (only Senator) from Osun instead of pacifying both sides, took sides with the anti Omisore faction and they eased him out of the party. Even though everyone Omisore's dream was the governorship. It can now be confirmed that Ademola's support of the other faction was because he was also eyeing the coveted seat as some leaders were urging him on. I don't blame him or anyone for being ambitious but I blame those who blame others.

Till date, many of those who left with Omisore who had worked for the victory of Ademola then including Omisore, former Minister of Police Affairs (Jelili Adesiyan, who himself hails from the same Senatorial district as the Adeleke's) himself are claiming San. Ademola never for once called to appreciate their supports or efforts.

If the Adeleke's weren't feeling too superior because they are money bags, one would have expected Deji and Demola themselves to personally meet Omisore and offers guarantees but pride comes before a fall, they chose people to go meet the man and speak on their behalf. Their conscience is their problem here. In politics its all about interest and compromise, something Tinubu seems to understand better.

Too painful APC might find it's way back into the OSUN government house and we can only hope whoever wins will be fair enough to the people because none of both sides will put the people first. There's a Yoruba adage "Okuta ti omole ko sile...."

God bless Osun State,..God bless Nigeria...

All of u staying in Lagos and analyzing happening in osun

1)Omisore formed the cabal that successfully muzzled out oyinlola.. Up until the eve of pdp's mega rally in osun oyinlola was still intrested in pdp

2)he forced Adeleke out of PDP because Adeleke was also vying for the ticket... APC snatched him right away...and they dealt with him

3)his anger issues got better of him again as he refuse to accept all peace parley before finally leaving pdp

He worked hard, he's loyal but he's hot tempered
