Politics › Alleged N1trn Diversion: Justice Ministry Orders Larmode’s Probe by HzRF(op): 6:57pm On Oct 26, 2015
Ade Adesomoju, Abuja
The Federal Ministry of Justice has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the allegation leveled against its chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, that he diverted about N1tn proceeds of corruption recovered by the anti-graft agency.
This followed a petition dated September 18, 2015, to the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Abdullahi Yola.
The petitioner, Chief Executive Officer of Panic Alert Security Systems, a security firm,George Uboh, had sent a reminder letter dated September 28, to Yola, threatening to sue the ministry if he failed to respond to his petition within seven days.
Uboh had in his petition asked the justice ministry, “through which EFCC derives its power to prosecute to immediately rescind the fiat to prosecute criminal suspects from EFCC.”
He also sought an immediate issuance of “fiat for the prosecution of EFCC’s past and present leadership and their known and unknown co-conspirators via the 22-page preliminary criminal charges the undersigned has prepared.”
Uboh, who had earlier petitioned the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, leveling the same set of allegations against Lamorde, finally got the ministry’s letter dated October 8, 2015.
The ministry’s letter which was signed by the Director, Public Prosecutions of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Muhammad Diri, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, was dated October 8, 2015.
The letter, made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday indicated that Yola had directed the EFCC to investigation the allegation against Lamorde and forward the result of investigation to him “as soon as it is completed”.
The letter with reference number, DPPA/PET/EFCC/006/2008 reads, “I refer to your letter dated the 28th September, 2015, in respect of the above mentioned subject matter.
“I am directed to inform you that your petition has been sent to the EFCC for their response to the allegation contained therein. The commission has been directed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary to forward the result of its investigation as soon as it is completed.
“Accept please, the assurances of the highest regards of the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary.”
But Uboh insisted on Monday that “pursuant to the Civil Service Rules, Ibrahim Lamorde, must step aside during the pendency of the investigation by the commission.”

Politics › Yola Blast’s Dead Toll Hits 70, Poly Loses Four Students by HzRF(op): 6:24pm On Oct 26, 2015
Umar Mohammed, Yola

The death toll in the mosque explosion in Yola last Friday has risen to 70, says the National Emergency Management Agency.

Among the victims were four students of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, where the Jambutu Jumaat Mosque is built.

The NEMA Coordinator in the state, Mr Saad Bello, and his counterpart in the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mallam Aliyu Maikano, confirmed that the casualty figure had risen to 70 from the initial 40 victims reported.

The affected Mosque is sited in the Polytechnic Jambutu campus, about five kilometers from the main campus.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Hamid Rufai, confirmed that though 25 students and staff of the institution were caught up in the vicinity of the blast, four students died while tow staff members were injured.

“Out of the 25 affected, four students lost their lives while the rest, including two staff members, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he added.

A Federal Government delegation, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. Lawal Babachir, visited Yola on Saturday to sympathise with the government and people of Adamawa State.

Come on, let us not rewrite history. The men whom GEJ kept close to his side(Clark, Dokubo et al) made it seem like GEJ's presidency was an Ijaw Presidency. When Turai and her cabal sought to deny him the Presidency during Yaradua's illness, the protests that were held in support of GEJ were led by mostly SW'ners. It's on record that there were no protest in SE or the SS. How could you alienate the same people who voted massively for him in the 2011 elections?

Yes, GEJ did well by conceding defeat. I will give him that. BUT he was an awful and terrible, very terrible leader. BEING a NICE guy and being a LEADER are two very disparate roles.

You are funny, you think appeal is like garri you just keep collecting from a bag? If he appeals to the highest court and the court nullifies his election it is over. That doesn't have to take 4 years, this one took only a few months. I don't know why you people like telling yourself lies to support what was obviously wrong, do you people have no iota of conscience? The people that died during election, were they not from Rivers State? Someone suported statewide thuggery to force his way into power and you are here making him look like the victim. These are the kind of mentalities we need to expunge for Nigeria to move forward, very backwards.

The judiciary is thoroughly compromised going by the above tribunal judgement. The Governor ought to vacate office as he does not have 25% in 2/3 of the LGAs in Akwa Ibom, since election in 18 out of 31 LGAs has been nullified. I wonder why the tribunal gave this timid verdict to rubbish democracy!
2/3 is not a needed in a governorship election

Politics › Re: APC To Appeal Tribunal’s Judgment On Akwa Ibom Governorship Poll by HzRF(m): 10:47pm On Oct 21, 2015
adeaks:
Some people are blaming APC or wondering why they are going to appeal without considering this case from a rational point of view.

If the tribunal can cancel the elections held in 18 local govts our of 31 (more than half of the total number of local govt) because of voter disenfranchisement, meaning that voting did not take place or people were not allowed to vote, then they have no reason to countenance or uphold the elections held in the other 13 local govt.

If a supposedly non-partisan election umpire can declare results in 18 local govt without election properly taking place, then the results declared in the other local govts are also automatically tainted. Even if voting took place in those 13 local govts, what's to say the right results were announced? An INEC who messed up 18 local govts has no business being believed in the others.

The tribunal should have nullified the while election and ordered a fresh rerun in the whole state.
Pls stop this

A competent court of law doesn't base her verdict on assumptions but facts

All u said here are assumptions not facts

APC knew they can't win by voting all they want is umana declared the winner
