It is a lot easier to start a conversation with your gender than with the opposite sex. This is because, your gender will never be emotionally attracted to you, unless he/she is homosexual.

Many guys are shy and are not confident in themselves, hence, they see a girl they like but lack the guts to walk up to her and strike a conversation. 

Some time ago, I was travelling from Lagos to Benin. There was a guy who was sitting between me and a girl. I noticed that the guy was always stealing glances at the girl and it was conspicuous that he was interested in her, but he kept stealing glances because he either lacked the guts to talk to her or didn't know how to start. The girl also replicated, she two was stealing glances, whenever the guy was not looking at her. This continued all through the 5-hour journey.

Girls have an inherent ego. They seldom start a conversation with a guy in a casual setting. Instances when they start a conversation with a guy in a class, school etc. but still, it is seldom. So, you are the guy, you have to start the conversation. 

STEPS TO STARTING A CONVERSATION WITH A GIRL 

          1.  Get over yourself:

A girl's egoistic nature is the reason why she will not be the first to say "hi" to a guy.

The same for guys. Guys also have ego, which is why some cannot start a conversation with a girl. Acknowledge that you are egoistic, do not use being shy or not confident as an excuse. Get over it, be jovial, and starting a conversation will not be a problem.

The worse that could happen when talking to a girl is getting a slap (never forget that).

          2.   Be positive:

Some guys do not talk to girls because they feel they may be snubbed. You must accept the fact that snubbing is a normal thing in this game, Guys and girls snub one another. But do not think of being snubbed when approaching a girl. Tell yourself "I'm the best person for this girl, she cannot snub me".

Feel fly dude! Even the bible commands that "women should be submissive to their husbands", same way girls should be submissive to guys. Think that way! 

          3.   Say Hi:

Some guys are very shy that their ego overpowers their will to talk to a lady. They fantasize about having a nice conversation with a girl. In fact, these guys are the boldest, most confident and most spontaneous people in their fantasies.

If you are such guy, try to say "hi" to every girl you meet, whether they are beautiful or not so beautiful. Just say "hi". If you have no idea how to continue, then walk away. If you are in the bus, say hi, when you get a "hi" in return; put on your headphone and celebrate yourself.

Now, saying "hi" may not get you any girl, but it will surely make you feel comfortable with ladies and help you to get over yourself with time. So, go out there, and say "hi" to every female you see. Crazy, right?

          4.   Smile:

When saying "hi" or talking to a girl for the first time, smile but be frugal with it. Don't keep smiling like a clown or else, she will think you are awkward.

Don't frown at all even when she acts like she is not interested. When she exhibits annoyance towards you, do conversely with a smile and crack a joke. "keep frowning and people will think you are my mom".

          5.   Adopt the 5-second rule:

I call this the golden rule. It is the surest prerequisite of keeping a conversation going.

Do not hesitate to talk to a girl you like. If you have even the slightest opportunity to talk to her, act in five seconds.

Do not be like that naive dude in the bus who kept staring at the girl throughout the five-hour journey. Even when you do not know what to say to her, do not break the 5-second rule.

If you wait and decide to approach her, you will be in a weaker situation. But when you act in five seconds, she will know it was spontaneous. You catch her unaware, and it becomes difficult for her to resist you. Her first impression of you will be that of a confident and spontaneous guy, and her attitude towards you will be positive.

Girls love guys that are confident and bold. No matter how beautiful or gorgeous she looks, you must act in five seconds. The 5-seconds rule starts ticking when you have the chance to talk to her. When you have that chance, you must not hesitate. The worst part is when the girl sees you hesitating. When adopting the 5-second rule, you may not say "hi". Just pick something about them to comment about; it could be her phone, something she is wearing, book etc.

The taxi driver after dropping someone off at Asoro Bus Stop, Benin city was alerted by a pedestrian that there was a snake in his car. The man hurriedly came out of the car and ran away. Youths in the area killed the snake before the man came back panting.
