A group of suspected kidnappers led by a woman was arrested in Calabar, Cross River State on Wednesday.

The kidnappers confessed to have come from Delta and Enugu States, adding that “kidnap business” was easier for them in Calabar, hence, the need for their relocation into the state.

They ran out of luck when they snatched a car belonging to one Mrs Joyce. It was gathered that they pushed her and her baby out of the car.

Mrs Joyce raised the alarm and residents gave them a hot chase.

They were apprehended, beaten and stripped naked before they were handed over to the police.

The incident occurred at PTI Junction Effurun, in Warri, where the innocent taxi driver was knocked down by a trailer.

A father of two was arrested for allegedly stealing a pot of soup in Bayelsa State.

The 35-year-old man, an indigene of Akassa community of Brass LGA of the state, allegedly stole a pot of soup, 12 wraps of fufu and a half basin of garri flour and was arrested by the vigilantes at 2am on Thursday while comfortably consuming some of the stolen wraps of fufu and the soup.

Enatimi confessed that hunger and economic hardship led him to steal the pot of soup and the other food items, after which the Paramount Ruler of the area, the Obenibe X1 of Epie Kingdom, King Hope Adike, intervened and asked them to parade him round the community with the stolen items as deterrent to others.

After parading the suspect round the village, Adike ordered that he be released and asked to sin no more.

Also, speaking on the incident, the Head of the Igbogene Vigilance Committee, Chief MoneySweet Asomo, told newsmen the suspect was caught red handed “doing justice” to the soup and food items stolen from a cafeteria owned by an Akwa Ibom State woman in the area.

He said, “We were on patrol at about 2am on Thursday.

“When we got to the Timida School area, we saw a man at a local food joint eating. The food kiosk is owned by an Akwa Ibom indigene popularly called Madam Blessing.”

All of the unaccompanied children were evacuated from the demolished Jungle migrant camp in the northern city of Calais Wednesday, local media reported, citing local authorities.

French authorities have evacuated all the minors to date, locating most of them at the refugee centers across the country and giving some 300 migrants a chance to reunite with their families in the United Kingdom, Franceinfo news outlet reported.

Earlier in the day, French authorities began the evacuation of about 1,500 underage migrants from the Calais camp.

The teenagers had not been provided with the opportunity to choose their destination, but they could choose fellow travelers and roommates for their new homes.

On October 24, French authorities started to dismantle the Calais camp, beginning with the relocation of migrants to other facilities across the country with some minors due to be sent to the United Kingdom. In total, more than 5,500 former residents of the camp have taken refuge in special accommodation centers across France.

A protein called Gammora recently identified by scientists at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University is said to be able to very nearly cure Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Researchers said the protein can reduce HIV, a precursor to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), by 97%. "The virus is smart and it is ever changing so there are patients who resist the drugs…We want to invent new mechanisms we hope will help us cure the virus," Professor Zev Sthoeger, head of Kaplan Medical Center’s internal medicine department, told Media Line.

"With our approach, we are destroying the cells, so there is no chance that the virus will awaken one day, because there are no cells, there will be no cells that contain the virus."

He added that "the drug enhances certain processes in the body during the spreading of the virus and that enhancement kills certain cells."

HIV begins a rapid attack on the immune system from the time it’s contracted, destroying cells that protect the body from infection.

Gammora forces the virus to overproduce within cells, causing a kind of implosion that renders it ineffective. HIV Spreads Among Daesh Militants in Mosul Currently treatment for the virus consists of a daily cocktail designed to slow the pace of infection and the reduce the chance of infecting others, but there is no cure as of yet.

Sthoeger explained "Because the virus uses the machinery of the cell, each infected cell is a factory for many viruses…And, if we kill the infected cells, maybe we can do more than the current medications."

According to Israeli medical professionals, the country has 7,500 citizens that are HIV positive, with 450 new cases annually.

Israeli AIDS Task Force spokesman Hagai Ayad said "Medications that are on the market are able to reduce and prevent HIV from becoming AIDS. They can suppress it, but they can’t get rid of it fully," adding that Gammora is "a new method, which apparently might create an opportunity to find a full cure for HIV and AIDS." Clinical trials for the protein are set to begin within a year.

A powerful earthquake on Sunday struck the mountainous region of Umbria with a magnitude of 6.6, making it the most powerful seizmci event in Italy over three-and-a-half decades.

It was followed by a 4.6 aftershock several hours later. At least 20 people were injured and up to 100,000 thousand are feared to be homeless.
Despite widespread devastation, no deaths were immediately reported.

"Dozens of people were lightly injured, except one person who is reported to be in more serious condition," Italy's Civil Protection chief Fabrizio Curcio said at a press conference.

Geologists say the latest tremor originated some 130 kilometers (82 miles) northeast of Rome. The same area was hit by a series of less powerful quakes on Wednesday, allegedly linked to the deadly seismic event that killed around 300 in August.

The latest quake knocked down the ancient St. Benedict cathedral in the town of Norcia, only 6 kilometers (less than 4 miles) from the epicenter.

"It was like a bomb went off," the town's deputy mayor, Pierluigi Altavilla told Rai News 24. "We are starting to despair. There are too many quakes now, we can't bear it anymore."

Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said Italy would "rebuild everything: houses, churches and businesses."
"We will use whatever is necessary to rebuild," Renzi added.

Many residents of the troubled region were sleeping in their cars or shelters after the series of tremors earlier this week.

"Everything collapsed. I can see columns of smoke, it's a disaster, a disaster," said Marco Rinaldi, the mayor of the village of Ussita, which also suffered severe destruction on Wednesday.

"I was sleeping in my car, I saw hell break out," he was quoted by the ANSA news agency as saying.

The vibrations forced people out of their beds in Rome, where the city's subway system was closed and experts were checking historic buildings for damage. Also, the quake brought down a damaged church tower in Amatrice, the tourist town that bore the brunt of destruction in August. Numerous other buildings were also destroyed, according to Italian officials.

At 6.6 degrees of moment magnitude scale, the Sunday quake released more energy than the deadly quake two months ago that reached magnitude of 6.1 and buried hundreds in rubble. The previous earthquakes, however, prompted the authorities to move the population out of vulnerable buildings.

The Sunday event was Italy's strongest earthquake since a 6.9 tremor claimed around 3,000 lives in 1980.

According to a recent report by Brazilian Forum on Public Security, more people have been murdered over the past years in Brazil than in the Syrian.

Political analyst, Jorge Mascarenhas Lasmar in an interview with Sputnik said “The statistics say that every nine minutes one person is killed in Brazil. It is really staggering,"

According to Lasmar, who is also a Professor of International Politics at the Brazilian Catholic University in Belo Horizonte, the actual numbers might even be much higher. In areas, where the authorities don't have a tight grip of the situation, many killings can go unregistered, he argued.

Replying to the question of why this issue has not been widely discussed in the public, Lamar said that Brazilian society tends to ignore problems that emerge within the country. "I think there is a cultural issue. Brazilians tend to turn a blind eye to domestic problems," the expert stated.

The total number of victims killed amounts to nearly 280,000 people from 2011 to 2015, says a report of São Paulo-based NGO Brazilian Forum on Public Security. Meanwhile, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, around 260,000 people were killed over the same period in Syria.

Lasmar expressed hope that these findings would open the eyes of Brazilian citizens to this problem.

Palermo - Police on Friday arrested a Catholic priest and an Army officer on sexual assault charges. Father Salvatore Anello, known in Palermo as an exorcist and a healer, is accused of handling two women and three underage girls when they turned to him for help.

Colonel Salvatore Muratore, 52, is accused of sexually assaulting four women and one underage girl. The officer co-founded a group called the Renewal of the Holy Spirit, and went to people's homes along with the priest to allegedly free them from demonic possession and conduct "healing prayers".

When the victims protested at the abuse, the colonel reportedly replied, "I'm invoking the demon of lust in order to liberate you".

Exorcism from the devil is a permitted rite in the Catholic Church, but it must be authorized by higher-ups. Anello was not recognized as an exorcist by his diocesis, sources said.

VOTE WISELY IN EDO STATE GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION

Edo State Governorship election is “around the corner” and many persons may have come (and are still coming) to solicit for your votes. The onus is on you to prayerfully and wisely cast your vote.

This election is unlike other elections considering the contemporary issues in Edo State in particular and Nigeria in general.

Christianity (our faith) in recent times has come under serious attack by Islamists who want to spread their religion in our nation by force.
Persecution of Christians has gradually spread from the North East through other parts of the North and the Middle Belt to the South West, and Edo State (the Heartbeat of Nigeria), a strategic state to the nation is now their primary target.

Edo State is a “nodal” (junction) state and possessing it in their calculation is very crucial to these agents/perpetrators of persecution and destruction of lives and properties.

Politically and religiously, possessing Edo State may be the avenue of penetrating the South – South and South – East.

The antecedents of these agents of persecution and destruction in Nigeria cannot be overlooked e.g. a review of the history of Ilorin (Kwara), Jos (Plateau) and Agatu (Benue) may be helpful. Their activities in the North East where Christians have been massacred in hundreds of thousands, churches burnt and people displaced from their homelands are all bare facts.

A review of their history in other parts of the world may be helpful e.g. their activities in Turkey (where the seven churches mentioned in Revelations Chapters 2 and 3 were located, North Africa and the current happenings in the Middle East.

Their strategy is to seize political power, have a foothold through land acquisition where they form a “semi caliphate”, having a government to themselves to the exclusion of the indigenes.

In this election, they have subtly and solidly put their support behind one of the candidates. All the above mentioned facts are playing out already in parts of Edo state. Go to Adesuwa, Eyaen and Ahor communities and see their activities. All they need now is to seize political power to complete their mission. The candidate they support has promised them full cooperation.

Edo people CANNOT afford to sell their votes and consciences for whatever price. This election is more than party affiliation. It is a choice between light and darkness, between Christianity and Islam, between God and demons. Our choice in this election will determine whether we will be able to practice our faith unhindered and over the same to our children.

Let us remember Esau who sold his birthright for one morsel of meal and it became impossible for him to regain it though he sought it carefully with tears (Hebrews 12:16-17).

Everyone should bear in mind that these agents of persecution and destruction do not care about any other religion or race except theirs. They want to conquer you, take over your land, install their Emir and force their faith on you.

While promoting their religion, other races and tribe who do not agree with them must be killed, enslaved or become subservient. That has been their motto and practice throughout the world and throughout history.

Promoting grazing reserves or ceding lands with the promise for development (that will not be actualized) are subtle ways they deceitfully use to have doors opened to them to persecute and carry out enslavement.

Our decision in this election will not only affect us but will affect our succeeding generations. Do we want to make the practice of our faith (Christianity) difficult or impossible for those who will succeed us if the LORD tarries?

Therefore let us remember the words of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16).

Who is that candidate that will stand on the Lord’s side, who will defend the Christian faith, who will not sell Edo State to the Islamists, who will be accessible and available to Christians? VOTE FOR HIM AND MOBILIZE OTHERS TO VOTE FOR HIM.

PLEASE BRETHEREN VOTE WISELY, VOTE WISELY AND VOTE WISELY.

Most importantly, let us pray fervently without ceasing, for the forthcoming Edo State election.

A Qatar Airways aircraft on Thursday has made an emergency landing in Istanbul after one of its engines reportedly caught fire.

Radar showed the aircraft diverting over the Marmara Sea shortly after take-off on Thursday and returning to land at Istanbul Ataturk Airport.
Footage showed flames bursting out of the Airbus A330's left engine as it came in to land.

A witness identified as Mehmet Kirazoglu told The Independent he was at a Turkish Airlines technology building near by the airport when he heard a “strange plane engine sound” overhead.

“When we looked up we saw that a Qatar plane's left engine was flaming out,” he added.

“It turned round towards the sea, I suppose it drained its fuel. Afterwards we learnt it landed safely.”

Kirazoglu said he and his colleagues could clearly see that the left engine was burning and that the aircraft’s landing gear had not been closed.

The plane has landed safely and all passengers and crew were disembarked.

The flight, codenamed QR240, took off for Doha at 1.20pm local time (11.20am BST) and landed in Istanbul 40 minutes later.
