Politics › Police Neutralise Three Suspected Kidnappers, Arrest Two Others In Imo by iamfraud(op): 6:21am On Dec 25, 2024 |
The police command in Imo says it has dismantled a notorious kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, who confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday, said three suspects were neutralised, and two others, David Ifeanyichukwu, 20, and Abuchi Joseph, 24, were arrested.
Okoye said the operatives of the police command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit in the state followed extensive investigation and intelligence gathering to execute the operation.
“On December 19, 2024, the police engaged the criminals in a gun battle in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area.
“The gang had been involved in the abduction of Osuji Chimereze and three others on November 12, 2024, during which they stole a Mercedes Benz and other valuables,” he said.
He said during the confrontation, the operatives recovered six AK-47 rifles with breach numbers 11330, 12102, 3836, 8260, and 9940.
Okoye added that 113 rounds of ammunition, a locally made gun, and two stolen vehicles—a Mercedes Benz ML 350 with registration number RRT 469 FF and a Hijet shuttle bus JRV 42 XA—were equally recovered.
“The suspects had used these vehicles in their criminal activities, including the kidnapping of other victims.
“Unfortunately, two police officers were injured during the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their injuries.
“The Imo State Police Command mourns their loss and commends their dedication in the line of duty,” he noted.
Okoye stressed that efforts are now focused on capturing the remaining members of the syndicate, who managed to escape during the operation.
Imo safe for Yuletide, says Army Commander
He assured residents that the command, under the leadership of Mr Aboki Danjuma, was intensifying patrols and security operations in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free yuletide.
The spokesman urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.
In another development, the command on Tuesday donated palliatives to families of 30 deceased officers in honour of their sacrifice and in the spirit of the Yuletide.
The command donated essential items such as bags of rice, a live cow, and monetary gifts.
The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sirajo Fana, promised to prioritise the welfare of officers’ families.
Danjuma encouraged them to remain strong and resilient.
Mrs Gift Ubi, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude for the generous gesture.
Ubi noted that the gift was not only a material relief but also an emotional comfort, especially during the Christmas period. (NAN) https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/12/police-neutralise-three-suspected-kidnappers-arrest-two-others-in-imo/amp/

Politics › Sit-at-home Cripples Yuletide Shopping, Commercial Activities In Anambra by iamfraud(op): 9:10pm On Dec 23, 2024 |
Partial economic and commercial activities were recorded in major cities of Anambra State on Monday as banks, markets, motor parks, business centres, petrol stations and public premises remained shut over the Monday sit-at-home.
It was gathered that the major markets, motor parks and other public places were devoid of the huge influx of human and vehicular activities recorded in the past few days as a result of the Yuletide, as the markets and motor parks were under lock and key.
The Second Niger Major and major roads across the state had scanty movement, as residents remained indoors, police operatives were seen deployed at strategic places at the River Niger head bridge while some operatives were also seen patrolling major streets in order to avoid any breakdown of law and order.
There was apprehension by travellers coming into the South-East over their safety should they embark on their journey on Monday, but the presence of policemen at the River Niger bridge doused every tension as they ensured free and safe movement of vehicles along the corridors.
Our correspondent who went around the major cities of Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and some parts of Awka, gathered that most people stayed indoors and did not go for Christmas shopping as a result of the sit-at-home.
Most residents expressed worry over their inability to make transactions at the banks’ Automated Teller Machines, ahead of Christmas Eve on Tuesday, lamenting that as a result of the development, PoS operators were exploiting the situation.
A resident of Onitsha and a businessman at the Onitsha Main Market (names withheld) while narrating his ordeal said, “Although some of us came to the market today, there is no much sales as customers did not come due to the sit-at-home. It affected full activities at the market and also affected our income.
This has affected me in the sense that I will be travelling with my family members to my hometown tomorrow, Tuesday, December 24, ahead of Christmas and today’s sit-at-home has prevented us from making sales. There’s no much activity as it should be and tomorrow is the eve of Christmas.
“Moreover, the market leadership has announced the closure of markets from Tuesday, December 24 till Saturday, December 27. You can see that today’s sit-at-home has affected some of us who needed to make sales and have money to spend this Christmas.”
Another resident, Nkechi Okonkwo, said, “I will be travelling for Christmas with my family tomorrow and today, I set out to do some shopping, but I couldn’t buy the things I needed in the market as most people did not open their shop today. I also learnt that they have announced a closure of markets from tomorrow. Today’s sit-at-home has really affected us.”
Speaking on the development, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured residents of their safety as they go about their normal business, saying the command has deployed operatives at strategic places.
“The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to fostering a secure and peaceful environment in collaboration with other security stakeholders.
“To this end, operatives have been deployed at strategic places to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” Ikenga added.
Meanwhile, according to a circular obtained by our correspondent from the market on Monday, the leadership of markets in the state has announced the closure of major markets.
The circular signed by the President General, Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association, Chief Humphrey Anuna, indicated that markets will be closed from Tuesday, December 24 and reopened again on Friday, December 27 and then close again on December 31 to reopen again on January 6, 2025. https://punchng.com/sit-at-home-cripples-yuletide-shopping-commercial-activities-in-anambra/?amp |

onuman: You have killed 13 unarmed Igbo people and call them IPOB, the same way your armed forces killed Igbos praying in an Aba Church whom you named IPOB people.
You want citizens of the southeast to give you information about where IPOB people exist. You use Nigeria armed forces to fight Jihad in the southeast, after you adopted unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system in the far north and ushetd in Boko haram which also says that it's fighting for a country to be governed with Sharia criminal laws.
The more you use Nigeria's armed forces to fight Igbos, the more calamity encompasses rest of Nigeria. soldiers killed ESN who carried ammunition |
