. You earn above 200k and you have a nanny and different children for your children and you are saying marriage is difficult. Oga u are just living above your means that is why marriage is difficult for you. 100k is ok for a man to start with if he wants to get married.
Oga,I didnt ask for ur advice.

I earn 200k ×300 times in a year...

So,I didn't complain rather I was against using 100k to marry or even 250k.

It is because you are leaving beyond your means. You have two cars and nanny. If your wife need a nanny, she should contribute part of the money.
So,because I have two cars that means I am living beyond my means.

If in a year,I make 60million and spend 18million how am I living above my means.

Oga,park jor. Must every be in poverty.

I am not complaining here okay.

. Ordinary grocery bills for feeding a pregnant woman and a man alone fit collapse person, or the cost of Pampers and baby milk during the first few months of the child entering into the mix will collapse that 100k-marriage idea completely into nothing. The reason people like that refuse to consider small things like this, which are real at teh end of the day, is that they want to cling to the magical idea that somehow the magical fairy of marriage will solve it all in the end. undecided
Pls,loud it.

The issue here isn't marriage itself—it's the four kids, plain and simple. I'm telling you, if you had stuck to one or two and your wife was also in, the stress wouldn't be hitting you this hard. As a young guy starting out, there’s zero shame in having just one kid and then waiting and planning properly before you have the next, the age gap doesn't matter.

The biggest killer in Nigeria is bad management. People choose 'runs-girl' beauty over brains, they don't plan how many kids they want, and they refuse to start a side hustle like POS or trading. Even worse, they spend money they don't have just to impress the society.

Forget all that competition. Aside from food, school fees, and rent, nothing else is worth stressing over. Poorly management of money is what truly makes marriage look like a burden. If you know the difference between what your family needs and what they want, a man should be fine. So the problem wasn't getting married; it was you having four children—even though they might eventually turn out to be your advantage.
Four kids aren't my problem...instead bad governmental policies that affected everything. So because I gave birth to four then I should kill them to assuage my burden.

I am a high earner and it wouldn't be nice if I use my self to give a clearer example here because few folks are in my shoes.

My expense is correspondingly high as well...I didn't tell u that I am suffering I am only saying no one should enter marriage with 200k u recommended here...

There is serious agenda in the North which we all don't know.

First, they make education unattractive to their people and allow the vulnerable among them to go into crime at will.

How can almost all the state in the north be infested with terrorism Except Gombe and Jigawa.

Too many crime in one country.

Some would come and say after all, there is more crime in America just to cover the atrocities in Nigeria.
FamilyRe: Someone Earning 100k Naira, Should Not Consider Marriage by ibechris(m): 9:19am On Nov 29, 2025
There is absolutely sense in what u have said...but the real issue here is this, theory and practical aren't the same.

U see,it is very easy to theorise this matter and after that,it looks cool and perfect but in reality,it is not.

I am a father of four,my salary does not last me more than two days to be honest with u. I got married when I had a reserved of about 4.5million to 7million in 2015.

That money is what is saving me till date and not my salary. It is always good for man and woman to see marriage first as a team and when that is done, everything would fall in place. Gradual building is good but it must be set as a goal.

One reason why I don't like people raising children in poverty is because it deprives the child of good things of this life and I was in that shoe and wouldn't want same for my children or even my neighbours child.

Thanks for ur insightful contribution.

SpencerForbes:
Let's be real here. How many 40-year-olds walking our streets right now can actually boast of ₦2 million liquid cash? Plenty of them are struggling, yet they have families. Are we saying they shouldn't procreate? That’s not sustainable.

In Nigeria, hard work isn’t the ultimate solution. You can hustle for 30 years and still have nothing significant to show for it. If we base starting a family on the official minimum wage, literally nobody would be giving birth.

The real problem is not having a child, it’s having too many children without a plan. If you manage yourself and have just one kid, how is that a burden?

And seriously, why are we making Pampers the ultimate financial obstacle? It’s just a year or two out of a lifetime. If you have a solid plan, rent that is manageable (say, ₦200k/annum), and some decent savings (even ₦5 million figure), you have a great platform to start. It’s tough only at the beginning, but smart people grow.

If we agree with these standards, then what about people in villages and rural areas? How many of them earn ₦200k per month, let alone have ₦5 million saved? Yet, life goes on and families are raised.
Some of the kids even turn out better than children raised in luxury or even abroad. Modest with wisdom is good. The money isn’t the problem but lack of wisdom is the ultimate problem.

FamilyRe: Someone Earning 100k Naira, Should Not Consider Marriage by ibechris(m):
SpencerForbes:
Our issue is that we love copying others without looking at our own pockets. You don't have to use premium brands just because society dictates it. Babies have been raised successfully without breaking the bank for generations.

Let’s be realistic: if we wait until every man has millions in savings before procreating, the population would crash. A struggling young man and a hardworking partner can build from scratch. There are affordable apartments in decent areas—you don't need luxury to be a good parent.

The blueprint is simple: Start small, stabilize, and then expand. The only major issue is rent and the initial infant stages when the child needs premium food and care . Honestly, if a man earning ₦200k plans well and cuts his coat according to his cloth, coupled with a sensible wife (not all this urban Gen Z) he can raise a small family while working on increasing his income. We need to stop discouraging people with unrealistic standards. How many men do you think will end up with more than 10 million naira savings in Nigeria?
We really need the population to crash...and as we won't get stuck of ur mentality. We need to move ahead and tap into every modern adventures.

Are u saying,u will be wearing elder people nappy and same with children in this age and time.

Stop being a Luddite, the world is govern by innovation and poverty is of the mind.

200k can't take care of any family except u an advocate of poverty, however if it comes to a single man or woman I agree but stop luring people into marriage with this 200k of a thing.

Many people are stepping up and many are going to make alot of money even before 10years of their work life. I am an example of such persons...I don't belive in the impossibilities. I am an advocate of gradualism and that has work for me.

Marry right...even if it means marrying a woman that earns more than u and believe in the principles of union between a man and a woman.

Someone earning 250k should not try to go close. The person earning 100k should not even promised any woman marriage.

I used to advice men to marry quick but now...I really do not have any advice to give again.

If u don't marry wisely, the marriage would hit u like where a trailer had a head on collision.

Marriage is very dangerous without adequate money to run its internal costs.

I earn 200k plus but it doesn't last me two days. After paying my nanny, pay my children teachers and give to my parents, set aside Nepa bill, fueling two cars in a month, feeding in a month...I might have spent close to
1.2m...it is crazy...not to mention other sundry expenses...all thanks to my side income.

What do i know self..marriage is not for the faint hearted my people.

If u must marry, marry a financially prepared spouse. That doesn't mean u should look for a rich woman or man ...no! but a woman/ man who is financially prepared to manage with u,live with u in tough days and not a downer

A man whose parents were children of immigrants...his grand father was a German who ran away from military service.

His mother was an immigrant too who deliberately left Scotland to the US. While his grand father ran away from military service in Germany and when he returned to Germany,he was stripped of his citizenship.

Moving from one place to another is a human nature.
