Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos Ushers in New Leadership, Unveils Vision to Create Lasting Impact

Prince Henry Obienu Hands Over Presidential Collaret to Bonaventure Igboanugo as Club Honours Outstanding Members and Decorates New Leadership Team

LAGOS, NIGERIA – July 1, 2026: The Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos officially commenced the 2026/2027 Rotary year with a colourful Presidential Handover Fellowship and Transition Ceremony held at Huahan Korean Restaurant, Ikeja GRA, ushering in a new chapter of leadership under the Rotary International theme, “Create Lasting Impact.”

The event marked the formal transition from the Unite for Good Year 2025/2026, led by Rtn. Prince Henry Obienu, to the Create Lasting Impact Year 2026/2027, under the leadership of Rtn. Bonaventure Igboanugo.

The ceremony attracted the Club Assistant Governor, visiting Rotary Club Presidents, Past Presidents, Rotarians, distinguished guests, partners, and friends of Rotary, all gathered to celebrate a successful Rotary year and reaffirm their commitment to humanitarian service.

One of the evening’s most symbolic moments was the formal handover of the Presidential Collaret and Club President’s Insignia, signifying the peaceful transfer of leadership and responsibility. The ceremony underscored Rotary’s enduring tradition of continuity, accountability, and servant leadership.

Following the handover, the incoming President officially decorated the newly elected Club Officers and Board Members for the 2026/2027 Rotary year, charging them to lead with integrity, professionalism, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the ideals of Rotary.

The fellowship also featured presentations on the club’s participation in major Rotary activities during the outgoing year, including reports on the District Governor’s Investiture, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Club Investiture, and the District Conference, highlighting the club’s active engagement in leadership development, youth empowerment, and district programmes.

In recognition of exceptional commitment and service, Awards of Appreciation were presented to deserving Board Members, Club Officers, and Rotarians whose dedication significantly contributed to the success of the club throughout the 2025/2026 Rotary year. The awards celebrated excellence in leadership, teamwork, and commitment to the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self.

Goodwill messages from the Club Assistant Governor and visiting Rotary Club Presidents commended the outgoing administration for its achievements while expressing confidence in the capacity of the incoming leadership to elevate the club’s impact and visibility within Rotary District 9112 and beyond.

In his acceptance address, the new President, Rtn. Bonaventure Igboanugo, unveiled an ambitious vision centred on strengthening the club internally while expanding its humanitarian footprint through sustainable service projects, strategic partnerships, membership growth, leadership development, and increased support for the Rotary Foundation.

“Our administration is committed to creating impact both within and beyond our club. While we will continue to serve our communities with compassion and purpose, we will also invest in our members by promoting fellowship, leadership development, recognition, and active participation. We believe that when we strengthen our members, we strengthen our capacity to transform lives. Together, we will build a stronger Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos and create lasting impact in every community we serve.”
— Rtn. Bonaventure Igboanugo, President, Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos (2026/2027)

The ceremony concluded with the traditional Rotary Fellowship Toast, celebrating Rotary Clubs worldwide, Rotary District 9112, and Rotary International, followed by renewed pledges from members to uphold Rotary’s core values of service, fellowship, integrity, diversity, and leadership.

With the successful transition of leadership, the Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos embarks on the Create Lasting Impact Year 2026/2027 with renewed purpose and determination to deliver innovative service projects, empower members, foster strategic partnerships, and make a measurable difference in the lives of people across communities.

EducationBukola Saraki Rescues First Class Mathematics Graduate On Scholarship by ibibiofirstlady(op): 7:56am On Jul 05
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has come to the rescue of a young Nigerian graduate whose scholarship dream was about to slip away.

Adisa Blessing Oluwafikayo graduated with a First Class in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin (CGPA 4.76) and was awarded a fully funded Master’s scholarship at the University of Calabria in Italy. But she couldn’t afford the relocation costs — visa, flight and settling in came to about €3,100. She opened a GoFundMe and had only raised around €400.

Her post went viral on X yesterday, and Saraki responded publicly, telling her he would cover the full cost himself. His exact words: “No young person who has worked this hard should have such an opportunity limited by the cost of getting there.”

His office has already reached out to her and the payment is being processed.

Whatever anyone thinks about politics, this is a big win for the girl. First Class in Mathematics is not beans.

If official documents there's no column for "engaged" "in a relationship " so technically op is correct. grin
The OP's post isn't referring to one's marital status, he referred to social status as a whole. Of course, no one is married unless they are married. But no one is single simply because they are unmarried. Some may be in relationship, some engaged (promise fo marry), some in complicated relationships, and others single with no commitment to anyone. The word UNMARRIED is best fit for people who are not married officially, NOT single.

RomanceRe: Until You Are Married, You Are Single by ibibiofirstlady(f): 11:35am On Apr 19
Unfortunately, your definition of "single" is not appropriate. You probably meant "unmarried". Any lady with a partner (Boyfriend or Fiance) or any man with a partner is NOT single, she/he may be best described as UNMARRIED. A single person is one who is yet to commit to another, once a person is committed to another, he/she ceases to be single.

PoliticsHow AGF Cleared Saraki On Offa Robbery (see DPP Report) by ibibiofirstlady(op): 10:35am On Apr 19
In this August 2018 legal advice, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) under the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) formally stated that there was no prima facie case against the then-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, regarding the April 2018 Offa bank robbery. The document explicitly noted that based on the interim police report provided to them, investigators were unable to establish any evidence linking the Senate President to the offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, or culpable homicide.

The AGF’s office maintained this position by emphasizing that they had not found any "departure" from earlier findings that cleared him of involvement.

Bukola Saraki Slams Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq: ‘You’ve Dragged Kwara To The Gutter’

Ordinarily, my attitude to this insidious move by the incumbent Governor of Kwara State to initiate a case of criminal liability against me in the unfortunate incident of armed robbery which happened in Offa community eight years ago should be to shrug it off and say that we will meet in court since I know I have nothing to do with the incident or any other crime for that matter.

However, I have been inundated with calls from many well-meaning Nigerians who were surprised by this turn of events. Thus, for the benefit of the general public, let me categorically state that I have nothing to do directly or indirectly with any case of armed robbery or any criminal matter, whatsoever. The Offa robbery incident was designed under the Buhari administration with the connivance of some individuals from Kwara State as an instrument of blackmail to seize political power from our group in 2019.

The case was investigated by the police team from the office of the Inspector General of Police. However, following the investigation, in two separate legal advices dated June 22nd, 2018, and August 23rd, 2018, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) stated that there was no evidence directly or indirectly linking me to the robbery incident.

The DPP in his first legal advice stated that “For the Senate President and the Kwara State Governor, this office is unable to establish from the evidence in the interim report a nexus between the alleged offence and the suspects”. In a second report, the DPP stated that “With regards to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, since there is no departure from the earlier findings in the interim report, this office is still unable to establish any prima facie case against him for any offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide”.

Based on the DPP’s advice, four suspects were charged in court by the Kwara State Government. They were convicted at the trial court and the conviction was upheld by the appellate court. The matter is now before the Supreme Court.

Suddenly, the governor woke up after I granted my interview to Channels TV where I commented on the insecurity in the state and thought he could resurrect these baseless charges against his two predecessors. I noticed that in his propaganda plan to circulate his frivolous charges and other skewed documents as paid advertisements in the national newspapers, even before serving the defendants, he intentionally hid the DPP reports and other documents which put a lie to the charade he is perpetuating. These are deliberate efforts to mislead the media and induce them to give purchased publicity to the frame-up.

Therefore, I am under no illusion that this case was a frivolous move and an abuse of court process to embarrass my person. My legal team will definitely meet this governor in court. I believe that Abdulrahman just feels that he could still use this case to harass and defame my person by abusing the judicial process. He had tried to induce the families of the victims to initiate civil litigations against the other respondents and me, but he seemed not to be making progress with that mischievous effort because the families backed out.

I need to remind him that this vicious attack on my reputation because he enjoys the immunity of a governor is a huge joke on him. A sitting governor who is accusing his two immediate predecessors of armed robbery is only making a mockery of the institution. He is only taking the governorship of our dear state to the gutter. This is an example of dirty politics taken too far and too low. He ought to know that nobody at the national or state level is buying his claim. He is the butt of a crude joke. Many of those involved in the plot to blackmail me with the Offa robbery case have since faced the judgments of the law of karma. I do not doubt that this governor will end up the same way.

One would have thought that a governor whose state has lost over 400 lives to banditry between January 2025 and March 2026, with over 100 others kidnapped in the worst cases of insecurity since its creation, would concentrate efforts and focus attention on taming the menace by getting the bandits arrested to face justice. No. He is fixated on filing frivolous and politically motivated charges against his predecessors. This shows the dark mindset of the man who is the governor of Kwara State today. A man who emphasises dirty politics over development and security of lives and properties of the citizenry. He started working on this plot immediately after my interview on Channels TV where I flayed his lack of capacity in tackling the security crisis in the state. He thought this case would erase his record as the governor with the worst cases of insecurity under his watch in the state's history. It is an unenviable record he has sustained by his lack of capacity and ability to tackle serious issues of the state.

This is a mere act of a desperate politician who is losing control in his party and knows that his days in governance are numbered. It is the reason why Nigerians should always take into consideration the level of education of those we elect into office. For a man who never completed secondary school education, it is difficult for him to appreciate the issues involved in any matter. His level of education is definitely affecting his judgment.

Let me however reiterate my unflinching belief and confidence in the ability of the judiciary to give justice at all times and to all categories of persons, no matter who their accusers are and whatever the motivation is. I believe the judiciary will always sort out the chaff from the wheat in the various cases before it. My legal team have been fully briefed and I know this case against me will collapse like a pack of cards.

PoliticsBukola Saraki Hosts Hundreds Of Kwara Law Graduates To Dinner by ibibiofirstlady(op): 11:03am On Jul 12, 2025
Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki hosted a dinner yesterday for hundreds of recent Kwaran law school graduates whom he had supported financially through their education.

Last night, I had the privilege of hosting a celebratory dinner for Kwara State’s newest lawyers — our freshly minted “new wigs” from the Nigerian Law School.

It was a pleasure to spend time with these bright and driven young minds, and to witness firsthand the passion that they bring to the legal profession; the dinner itself was a modest token of how much we appreciate and care about them.

For many years, through the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation, we have supported aspiring lawyers from Kwara State and across Nigeria, covering law school tuition for hundreds of students each year and providing essential items like wigs and gowns.

Congratulations once again to the Nigerian Law School Class of 2023/24. May your wigs never gather dust, and your voices always rise whenever justice needs a defender.

PoliticsBenue Killings: What Is The Worth Of The Life Of A Nigerian? (part 2) by ibibiofirstlady(op):
On May 28, 2021, I penned an opinion titled “Benue Killings: What Is the Worth of the Life of a Nigerian?” on daily trust e-paper and some other blogs. Sadly, three years later, the question not only remains unanswered but has grown more urgent, more haunting. The blood continues to flow in Benue State, and the seeming inability of those who swore to protect the lives of Nigerians have become even more worrisome.

Entire communities have been wiped out in coordinated attacks by suspected armed herders and militia groups. The pattern is chillingly familiar: villagers asleep in their homes, farms torched, children orphaned, livelihoods erased in one night of horror. The case of Yelwata, amongst many others, is still very in our minds. The victims are 'ordinary Nigerians', yet their suffering seems to mean little in the national conscience.

The root causes of this carnage are not new, but our failure to act decisively has only deepened the crisis. First, there’s the long-standing farmer-herder conflict, aggravated by dwindling arable land, desertification, and weak enforcement of anti-open grazing laws. Second, there is a frightening proliferation of illegal firearms in the hands of non-state actors. Third, the absence of justice and accountability emboldens killers who are never arrested, never tried, never punished.

But beyond the land and security factors lies a deeper, moral crisis: the selective value of Nigerian lives. Would this bloodletting be tolerated if it were happening in Victoria Island or Maitama?

Although the proposed visit by Mr. President is timely , I join my voice with that of other Nigerians, to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act with the urgency and leadership this tragedy demands. The time for politically correct statements has passed. The people of Benue and every Nigerian deserve safety, justice, and dignity.

The state government must prioritize the protection of lives over politicking. Security agencies must stop arriving after the bodies are buried. Intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response teams must be strengthened, localized, and proactive.

Equally important, critical stakeholders — traditional leaders, religious groups, CSOs, and regional bodies — must forge sustainable dialogue platforms between herders and farmers. Implementing practical ranching systems, disarming armed groups, promoting peace education and conflict resolution are steps toward long-term peace.

The continued killings in Benue are not just statistics — they are lives stolen, families shattered, futures destroyed. Until Nigeria values every life equally, we will continue to fail as a nation.

Mr. President, the time to end this carnage is not in the next policy cycle. It is now.
Comrade Omaga Elachi Daniel writes from Okpoga, Benue State.
