Bala Mohammed Kaura Bauchi Breaks Alliance With G-5, Endorse Atiku Abubakar

Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has denied speculations that he was planning to dump Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections. The denial brings to an end the purported alliance of Mohammed with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the G-5 Governors who are opposed to the Atiku/ Okowa presidential ticket.

Mohammed made an open declaration of his total support and loyalty to the Atiku candidacy yesterday, during the flag off of his gubernatorial campaign in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State Addressing the rally, Mohammed appealed to the thousands of his supporters in Gamawa to vote for Atiku Abubakar saying, Atiku is the only candidate that will restored the lost glory of Nigeria if elected as the number one citizen of the country. He said Nigeria needs a personality with an all encompassing knowledge of the country. According to him, Atiku will have no problems ruling Nigeria, as a former Vice President of the country for good eight years.

The former minister also faulted the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Federal Government for not giving enough time for Nigerians to exchange their old note with the new one as well as closing government account just to create artificial poverty in the country. Mohammed accused APC governors of using public fund in their campaigns in the name of empowerment, adding that they have been giving out cash and food items just to deceive the people.

He charged his supporters to collect what ever they were given during the campaigns but vote wisely for PDP only. He assured the people of the area of his administration’s continued commitment for the provisions of social amenities such as roads, culverts, schools, hospitals and to build sesame company to ease their problems. Earlier, in his welcome address the Chairman of the PDP in Gamawa Local Government Area, Alhaji Danladi, told the governor that Gamawa is for PDP and not any other party. He thanked the governor for choosing Gamawa Local Government as the venue to flag off his campaign.

Atiku, Okowa Only Option To Revamping Nigeria’s Economy –Imoke
Former Cross River State governor, Sen Liyel Imoke in company of the senator representing Cross River South senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Gershom Bassey yesterday bragged that it is only the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa who can right the wrongs caused by the APC.

The duo said that Atiku and Okowa presidency remains the only viable option for Nigerians if the people are willing to reclaim their country.

They made the remarks while receiving thousands of decampees from the ruling APC shortly after a townhall meeting held yesterday in Calabar to sensitise the people on why the APC should be voted out of office.

They assured party supporters of victory by the PDP in the 2023 presidential elections stressing that it is only the PDP who can fix all that the APC has destroyed.

The PDP chieftains stated that the debt-burden incurred by the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has run into trillion of dollars, stressing that the APC administration has resorted to taxing the people on everything in order to meet up with their cost of governance.

They maintained that Atiku has fashioned out a 5-point agenda which is like a blueprint to assist in salvaging the situation.

The Cross River State PDP South Senatorial candidate and former state party chairman, Ntufam Ekpo Okon charged Nigerians to vote Atiku Abubakar as Nigeria’s president stressing that he is the only one with the capacity to manage the country’s affairs.

The national women leader, Prof Stella Effa Attoe, said this administration of APC is the worst-ever and people should not miss the opportunity to change the tide.

With less than two months to go to the polls to elect Nigeria’s next president, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has begun looking beyond the elections.

The former vice-president has begun putting in place processes to help run his government.

Confident of victory, the PDP candidate has set up a Policy and Advisory Committee to begin designing what he called “a robust framework for effective governance under an Atiku Abubakar federal administration”.

In the terms of reference given to the committee, Atiku said: “Given the enormity of the problems which will be bequeathed to the incoming administration, coupled with acute scarcity of resources, submit recommendations for prioritisation of the implementation of government policies and programmes contained in the blueprint to avoid losing focus and its attendant problems of indigestion.”

He asked the team to “undertake an extensive review of the organisational framework and structure of the entire Federal Government (including the presidency, ministries, departments and agencies) since the introduction of the presidential system of government in 1999 and determine if the structure as designed and built was truly reflective of the cornerstone principles of a presidential system of government in best practice environments, whether the structure over time has become too large, unwieldy, inefficient and expensive, whether in a fast-changing world, conscious and deliberate efforts have been made to adapt our system of government (which has been in operation for 23 years) to the needs and dictates of a 21st century world”.

The team was also instructed by the former vice president to “undertake benchmark desk studies and tour of a few countries which represent the best models of presidential systems of government with a view to onboarding powerful lessons in how we can reorganise our various institutions of government to become highly competitive, effective and efficient”.

He urged members of the committee to also undertake an exhaustive review of Nigeria’s national security institutions and infrastructure and determine whether the philosophy, objectives and cardinal principles enshrined in the founding documents of these institutions are currently being observed in letter and spirit and in practice.

Atiku also wants the committee to know if members of the armed forces are sufficiently motivated, trained and equipped to deal with the multi-pronged national security challenges confronting the nation at home and abroad and whether in a nation where the population has exploded, there are sufficient number of men and women in uniform capable of dealing with the nation’s “burgeoning national security threats”.

A senior PDP presidential campaign official told BusinessDay that the party’s flag-bearer is confident of victory and keen to “hit the ground running when he is elected”.

“Whoever is taking over from Buhari is not only going to inherit a gigantic mess, but also fail woefully if he does not start planning now. We know this, and this is why our candidate wants to get things moving even before the elections. We know we are going to win the election and Atiku is going to be the president of Nigeria in May,” the official said.

Atiku is facing a major crisis in his party which some political watchers say is capable of depriving him of victory.
He has consistently come third in most opinion polls conducted. He was tipped in the Arise/ThisDay projection in December to win overwhelmingly in February.

While it is increasingly looking unlikely that Atiku will make any headway in the South, he is focusing on winning the majority of the votes in the North to grab the presidency.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku’s former boss, under whom he served as vice president between 1999 and 2007, has declined to endorse his ambition.

Obasanjo, in his January 1 letter to Nigerians, repudiated his former deputy while supporting the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi.

“None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge,” he said.

In June, Obasanjo had vilified the PDP candidate as an erroneous choice for vice-president in 1999.
“One of the mistakes I made was picking my number two when I wanted to become the President. But because it was a genuine mistake, God saved me,” the former president had said.

The PDP say they are however confident of victory, dismissing Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi as his personal opinion.

Obasanjo’s opinion, according to the party, does not reflect the position of the overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the country. It described its presidential candidate as the most acceptable of all the candidates.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Saturday said the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would reopen the nation’s borders if elected at the 2023 general election.

The Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council made the assertion at the PDP campaign rally in Illela Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the PDP presidential candidate has better plans for the country.

“These include reopening of the nation’s borders, addressing challenges of insecurity and the provision of basic necessities of life for Nigerians,” he said.

The governor added that his administration in the state had a lot of sympathy for the people of Illela being among the worst hit areas by bandits’ attacks.

“However, despite challenges of insecurity, economic recession and the negative impact of COVID-19, we have executed several projects under healthcare, education, water supply and social interventions, among others,” he said.

In his remarks, the DG, Sokoto Campaign Management Council, Alhaji Yusuf Sulaiman, asked the people of the area to elect continuity in governance by casting their votes for the PDP.

The PDP governorship candidate, Malam Sa’idu Umar, pledged that the international market project at Illela would receive the attention it deserved from his administration if elected.

Umar said he owed special attention to the people of the state in general. He promised to sustain the legacies of Tambuwal and initiate more developmental projects, if elected.

On his part, the Sokoto North senatorial candidate of the PDP and incumbent deputy governor, Alhaji Mannir Dan’iya, attested to the current administration’s successes in the state.

He urged the people of the state to reciprocate the gesture by voting for the PDP, adding that many developmental projects were planned for Kware LGA in the 2023 budget.

A group, Atiku for President Come 2023 led by Hon. Rabiu Hussein has called on youths from the 19 northern states to vote for the Waziri of Adamawa and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at the forthcoming presidential election.

Hussein said the call has become necessary considering his vast experience in governance, especially when he served as vice president of Nigeria. He described Atiku as an astute administrator with capacity to lead Nigeria out of socioeconomic doldrums.

Hussein who served as convener of the programme held in Kano made the appeal yesterday through his group “Arewa Naka Sai Naka” where he gathered thousands of youths and women from the nineteen northern states to mobilise them to vote for Atiku.

He said the youth in the 19 northern states should rally round the PDP presidential candidate and ensure that he clinched the exalted position with ease as doing that would help the man provide solutions to all the myriad of problems bedeviling the nation.

“Atiku remain the only vibrant and competent politician in Nigeria today who has what it takes to take Nigeria to the Promised Land hence the resolve of the group to gather both the youths and women to come forward and back him up,” he said.

Hussein said the Victory of Atiku Abubakar is a victory for all. ” I was recently overwhelmed by his intellectual dexterity during his visit to Katsina State where he promised to open all the Nigerian borders and allow food and other essential commodities to flood our markets so that Nigerians would heave a sigh of relief from the APC’s policies of economic strangulation,” he said.

According to the group, the entire North-East citizens and progressive Nigerians are fully behind Alh Abubakar adding that the former VP is the only candidate among all the contenders jostling for the highly coveted seat of the president, who has the requisite capacity, connections and experience to hit the ground running from day one if he wins the election.

“We took a tour of the north and other five geo-political zones across the country and from our findings, it was discovered that Atiku is not only the most popular but also the preferred even among the masses,” the group said through their coordinator, Engr Ezekiel Mbaya.

Briefing journalists in Kaduna on the need for Nigerians to consider the future of the country in terms of sustainable growth and development, Mbaya said, “Nigeria can’t afford to have someone with regional or state experience of leadership to capture power and begin to tell us stories again.”

Politics2023: Atiku Will Defeat Obi In South-east – Aniagwu December 19, 2022 by Ibram2004(op): 9:03am On Dec 19, 2022
2023: Atiku will defeat Obi in South-East – Aniagwu
December 19, 2022

Aniagwu
Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu says the turn out for the party’s presidential rally in Anambra and Imo states shows that the party had what it takes to win in the South East geopolitical zone.

Speaking on Arise Television on Saturday, Aniagwu said that the PDP was still very popular in the South East and urged Nigerians to support the party’s Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to rescue the nation from destruction.

Aniagwu said contrary to claims that Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi may win because he was from the South East, popular politicians had defeated their opponents in the past even in their strong holds.

According to him, the same way you have Peter Obi in the South East, same way you have Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso in the North and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the South-West, so individuals will naturally come from somewhere.

“That a man comes from somewhere does not mean that he may not be defeated and I may need to take you back to 1992 and if you could recall Bashir Tofa and Moshood Abiola. Tofa from Kano and Abiola from Ogun State in the South-West but Abiola defeated him in Kano.

“So that a man is from a place does not mean that the place will automatically be for him. And so I would not want us to be intimidated with the fact that somebody is from somewhere.

“Atiku is not just speaking and making promises, his chances both in the South-East and elsewhere in the country is far brighter than even the northern star and that is on the basis of his pedigree in time past.

“You will recall that between 1999 and 2007, Atiku and Obasanjo held sway in this country and their records are there for everyone to see,” he said.

The campaign spokesman further remarked that Atiku had the ability to search for talents to develop the country as he did while he was Vice president.

“Atiku is not just talking because he has the ability to search for talents irrespective of where they are from.

“Dr Okonjo Iweala and Professor Chukwuma Soludo who served as Minister of Finance and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, were discovered by Atiku and they made great impact during their tenure.”

On bringing peace back to the South-East, Aniagwu said Atiku had already enshrined peace and unity in his policy document “My Covenant With Nigerians”

“Atiku has made it very clear that he is going to discuss with both state and non-state actors and the crisis in the South-East is basically from non-state actors.

“Some people see them as agitators while others see them as militants but Atiku is not going to be involved in labeling. He will discuss the issues with them and good enough some of the issues are already known to him.

“Issues of under development and marginalization and he says he is going to address them to ensure that every Nigerian irrespective of where you are from is going to be brought on the decision table and once those issues are dealt with, the people agitating would have been assuaged to embrace peace,” he said.

Aniagwu who is also Delta State Commissioner for Information, said the party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate and Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa had addressed similar issues in the state to the extent that the creeks where there used to be agitations is now as peaceful as the upland.

“Atiku besides his pan Nigerian disposition also believed that that formula worked and will be adopted to bring lasting peace across the country, so we are quite convinced that Atiku will take decisions that will make everybody comfortable by forming a government of national unity,” Aniagwu added.

Atiku says he will fight insecurity and other challenges facing Nigeria with his restructuring agenda.
ByAbdulqudus Ogundapo December 7, 2022 Reading Time: 2 mins read

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday said he will fight insecurity and other challenges facing Nigeria with his restructuring agenda.

Atiku promised that he will begin to implement his restructuring plans for the development of the country immediately he is sworn in as president.

The former vice president made the pledge at the PDP mega rally held in Osogbo.

“Our only objective is to make sure that current challenges of insecurity, disunity, economic deprivation, lack of jobs to our youths and the future of this country through restructuring can be achieved, these I promise you. I am going to start doing them from day one in office,” he said.

The presidential hopeful appealed to residents of the state to support his ambition, promising that he will not betray their trust.

“I appeal to you to come out in great numbers like you did in the last state election and vote PDP in the next year’s election. That is the only way you can secure your future and that of your children,” he added.

“We will not fail you, we are not like APC, we have done it before, we have the experience and capacity to bring the needed changes. We are not new as far as governance is concerned in Nigeria,” Mr Abubakar promised.

In his remarks, the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, described the PDP presidential candidate as an experienced politician who has the qualities to resolve Nigeria’s challenges.

“The experience of the PDP presidential candidate is so enormous, when he served the country as the Vice President, he was the one that stabilised the economy, he made it grow, we need someone like him to steer the affairs of the country,” he said.

“When elected, Nigeria will grow from strength to strength. Emergence of Atiku will unsettle evil in this country because he has the fear of God,” the governor added.

Mr Adeleke also promised that Atiku as president will end insecurity in the country.

“He will govern Nigeria with rule of law and due process. I have been speaking to him on the issue of security and he promised to find a lasting solution to the challenges. He will end the kidnapping,” he said.

Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party trooped to the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo on Wednesday as the party’s presidential campaign landed in Osun State.

Present were the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other senior party members.

Atiku, while addressing party members during a town hall meeting ahead of the campaign rally, said his government, if elected, would address insecurity, revive the economy, unite the nation and improve the education system.

He alleged that since the All Progressives Congress came to power in 2015, Nigerians had been suffering from bad governance, adding that the PDP was contesting the election to restore Nigeria.

Atiku noted, “If we are voted into office, we will stabilise Nigeria, unite its people, ensure security of lives and property and make sure our people benefit from the good governance of the PDP.”

At the rally, Atiku said, “My brothers and sisters of Osun State, I have come to thank you and I appeal to you; I plead with you to come out in greater numbers than you did in the last state election and vote for the PDP in the next general election.

“That is the only way that you can secure your future and the future of your children, we promise you that we will not fail you.

“We are not like the APC because we have done it before, we have the experience. We have the people who have the capacity to bring about the changes. We are not new as far as governance is concerned in Nigeria.”

Also speaking, Atiku’s wife, Titi, who is from Osun said, “Atiku has come to restructure Nigeria. Atiku has come to give our children good education. There will be no Boko Haram, there will be no kidnapping, there will be no abduction.

“All of these are going to stop but it has to start with you people. If you give Atiku your votes come February 25, that is when it will be possible for Atiku to make you great.

“I employ you, don’t sell your conscience. Don’t sell your vote.

Also at the rally, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke noted, “If Atiku becomes the President of Nigeria in 2023, Nigeria is sure to develop and prosper.

“Atiku will restore the economy, security, agriculture, education and health; he will ensure that the nation is united. Atiku is an experienced man and the only candidate that can rescue Nigeria from its various problems and challenges.”

He added, “Under Atiku as Vice-President, Nigeria was the largest economy in Africa. Atiku will direct Nigeria to the path of development. He will restore the rule of law and due process. Atiku will secure the nation.”

Urging the people of Osun to vote for the PDP in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate, Okowa, said, “I urge the people to vote for Atiku as he is the only person that can rescue Nigeria from its economic woes.”
