She snatched my husband, assailant alleges By DAYO JOHNSON, Akure A drama occurred at one of the first generation banks in Akure, Ondo State capital, when a lady, simply identified as Sade, bathed a cashier (names withheld) with faeces inside the banking hall for allegedly snatching her husband. Customers and fellow bankers took to their heels as the assailant rained abuses after pouring the smelly substance on the lady banker. The ugly incident, which occurred on Friday, was quickly brought under control by security operatives attached to the bank. Sade, who pretended to be one of the customers, was said to have arrived the bank with a polythene bag and approached the cashier only to pour its contents on her. The stench took over the banking hall just as all the customers ran to the door to escape the odour. Sunday Vanguard gathered that the cashier was equally assaulted by the lady before she was bundled out by the bank guards. The management of the bank, after the ugly incident, arranged for the cashier to bath and change her clothes within the bank premises. One of the bankers told Sunday Vanguard: “All of us, including my colleague who was assaulted, were busy attending to customers when the young lady came in and started raining abusive words on the victim, in an embarrassing way. She called her unprintable names and accused her of snatching her husband. “We were shocked and we tried to shout her down only for her to open a polythene bag she carried, thinking that she wanted to make some deposit but what she brought out shocked everybody. “She removed the bag containing the terribly smelly faeces which she instantly poured on her victim”. The police public relations officer at the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, said the suspect had been arrested and detained by the police. Adeniran, said, “The incident happened around noon on Friday and the suspect, who is already with us, came to Akure from Owo with a can containing smelly faeces which she poured on the banker. “She will be charged to court after necessary investigations had been concluded on the case”. vanguardngr.com/2012/02/drama-in-bank-as-woman-bathes-cashier-with-faeces/ |

LONDON — World oil prices rebounded sharply on Thursday as concerns over supply disruptions in Iran and Nigeria outweighed data showing weak US energy demand, analysts said. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate crude for delivery in February, jumped $1.14 to $102.01 a barrel. Brent North Sea crude for February gained $1.36 to $113.60 in London late morning deals. "The US/European-led sanctions on Iran look to tighten and have caused some Asian buyers to begin to look to alternative supplies," said Sanjeev Gupta, who heads the Asia-Pacific Oil & Gas practice at Ernst & Young. "Iran's threat to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is keeping markets on edge, particularly Asian markets." Western powers are moving to tighten sanctions on Iran, accusing the country of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran has denied the allegations, saying its nuclear programme is peaceful and has threatened to block the strategic Strait of Hormuz if fresh sanctions are imposed, a move sure to escalate tensions. "The sanctions , could have a knock-on impact on spare capacity, should other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, have to increase output to fill the gap," Barclays Capital said in a market commentary. Prices also got support from rising European equity markets and the weaker dollar, in the wake of successful bond auctions in Spain and Italy. The European single currency advanced to $1.2748 from $1.2707 in New York late Wednesday. "Well-bid Italian and Spanish (bond) auctions have no doubt supported risk appetite as the US dollar tracks back to (put) upward pressure on commodities," Sucden analyst Jack Pollard said. Prices fell Wednesday following news of a surprisingly big increase in US crude oil reserves and slowing economic growth in Germany. US crude stockpiles jumped by five million barrels last week in the world's biggest oil consumer -- five times the amount forecast by analysts. The build in US crude inventories was "doubtless encouraged by the threat of supply disruptions in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz," Nic Brown at Natixis said. The eurozone debt crisis produced more worrying signs of distress, this time in Germany, Europe's biggest economy. While the German economy grew a robust 3.0 percent in 2011, according to the official statistics agency Destatis, most of the growth in gross domestic product came in the first half of the year. German GDP probably shrank by about a quarter of a percentage point in the final quarter, Destatis said. |
may God help us in this country ooooooo bad govt ever |
WARRI- THE oil city of Warri, neighboring Effurun ,Udu and environs in Delta State were shut down Monday following a mass protestby irate citizens protesting the removal of fuel subsidy by the FederalGovernment. The protest, which was in compliance with thedirective of the organized labour and civil society was led by the Delta statecoordinator of the NLC/TUC and civil society group, Casely Omon-Irabor Esq. The response was massive and total from what Vanguardwitnessed a position that was corroborated by the state coordinator of the Forumfor Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, Oghenejabor Ikimi Esq. As at 6.00 am, Omon-Irabor was already at thetake-off point of the mass protest in Warri, according to our findings tocoordinate the day’s event, while people started gathering at about 7.30 am. The protest commenced in Warri some few minutes to 9.00 am at the old Warri Port gate withprayers and advice from the organizers to the protesters to be orderly. The previous night, there was an unconfirmed report that Boko Haram suicide bombers andmembers with guns and machete had infiltrated the subsidy protests in Lagos,Abuja, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Kwara and Rivers states to cause mayhem. Labour leaders and citizens were urged to be watchout for infiltrators, but in Warri, there was a heavy presence of security agents,as the protesters marched from old Warri Port enroute Effurun roundabout toGovernment House Annex, along the NPA expressway. There was total compliance as shops, markets, offices and banks were all locked up. The main market, Warri and Okere marketwere also closed. Omon-Irabor addressed the public at Okere marketjunction, stating reasons for the mass protests by Nigerians and calling all citizensto reject the bad policy, no matter the inconvenience. He said the will of peoplewould certainly triumph over the dictates of the powerful few in Aso Villa. He said the motion passed, Sunday, by the House ofRepresentatives calling on the Federal Government to suspend the about 120 percent increase in the price of fuel was an indication that even those ingovernment know that the decision was ill advised, adding that except the priceof petrol was reverted to the old price of N65, the protests would continue. As at 11.51 am, the protesters have reached EnerhenJunction and in the words of Oghenejabor Ikimi, “It is a peaceful protest and ahuge success. I can tell you that there is total compliance. Warri and environswere shut down. The protest here is a massive one”. “I urge the president to respect the views of Nigerians and their representatives in theHouse of Representatives by suspending the removal of subsidy on petrol beforedialoging with Nigerians on the way forward”, he asserted. Some members of the Maritime Workers Union ofNigeria told Vanguard that security operatives, especially those of Joint TaskForce, JTF, the Navy and Police, whose offices are located inside the port premises, were allowed to go inside to carry out their security duties. Motor-cyclists, popularly known as Okada ridersand bus drivers were allowed to do their normal transportation business. The resumption date for secondary and primaryschool students in the state was shifted by a week by the authorities toappraise the mass protest, while government agencies like the NNPC andDESOPADEC, along the Warri-Sapele Road, Warri locked up for fear of theunknown. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/protesters-shut-down-warri-effurun-udu/ |
