BUHARI AGAIN?

Okonjo Iweala, a woman that had seen it all could come out to say at an American conference that the SEED OF THIS RECESSION WAS PLANTED DURING THE JONATHAN REGIME DUE TO OUR LACK OF FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE, INABILITY AND LACK OF POLITICAL WILL TO SAVE. People should not blame jonathan alone for this because the profligate Nigerian Governors too are culpable. He attempted to save, but the governors demanded to take all the savings citing constitutional right. Money they took and Stole at the same time. Our case is pathetic.

Do you know that:

Obasanjo's administration earned # 17trn from crude oil sales within eight years and left behind 45bn dollars external reserves and 3.348bn dollars external debt.

Yaradua grew the reserves to 64bn dollars within just one year and the administration was able to finance 15 months of imports despite the 2008/2009 world economic meltdown. Hence, Nigeria survived the melt down because of the political will by the administration to save(a great achievement by Yaradua which most Nigerians are not aware of). Despite the tough economic reality at that time, Yaradua left 47.7bn dollars in reserves and an external debt of 3.94bn dollars. Meanwhile, the administration earned only # 9trn from crude oil sales within that short period.

Now, Jonathan administration witnessed an oil boom when Brent crude sold for over 100 dollars/barrel, with the regime earning # 51trn within a period of 5years. But because of corruption, the administration did not only squander the oil revenue but even depleted the reserves left by Yaradua, leaving just 32bn dollars and a huge external debt of 63bn dollars for Buhari. The same Brent crude sold for as low as 35 dollars/barrel at a point shortly after Buhari took over power and had only managed to climb to about 48 dollars just recently.

These are facts that can be verified. So, it's amazing hearing people criticize Buhari for the hunger in the land.

According to Fashola, Buhari's administration inherited 206 uncompleted road projects and contract arrears worth #2.1trn from Jonathan; and for about 2 to 3 years the contractors where not paid. This slowed down the economic activities, with most of the companies laying off their staff. This was when the seed of recession was sowed.

It's obvious that Buhari came in to rescue Nigeria, because if Jonathan had continued in power, the nation's economic crisis would have been worse, perhaps even the Federal government wouldn't have been able to pay salaries of civil servants by now.

According to Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria started borrowing money to pay salaries since October, 2014; but today Nigeria now borrow money for investment in capital projects.

Those who blame Buhari for the current hardship do so either out of mischief (hatred) or ignorance. So, we shouldn't join the bandwagon in criticising him. He may not have done much to save the situation, considering that he is not a perfect human being but he means well for the country and can only succeed with our prayers.

May Almighty God continue to guide Baba Buhari.

Why not share this piece with others for the sake of enlightenment and conscious prayers for our nation. We av the responsibility to enlighten others.

Mischievous and the ignorant people/politicians should not drag us backward.

Shared as received.

Nairaland GeneralThe Book Blood Enemy by ibsals(op): 8:21am On Nov 26, 2017
A review of Aliyu Sani’s ‘Blood Enemy’
Title: Blood Enemy
Author: Aliyu Sani
Publisher: A.S. Publishers
Pages: 93
Year of Publication: 1997
Reviewer: Dickson Salami Adama
In ‘Blood Enemy’ the author lends his voice to the global outcry against the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). He was spurred by the people’s vulnerability, hopelessness, fear and anxiety and inability to tackle the dreaded and incurable catastrophic disease, AIDS.
The setting of the book and the cultural angle taken by the author is captivating and makes it easy for people to follow and get the message passed across. The author intimates the society on AIDS and its attendant effect, especially at a time when it was ravaging nations and communities alike and the people, including the government, were at a loss as to how to tackle the menace.
Unlike the present time where HIV and AIDS is being tackled in several effective ways and the victims are being treated and manage to live for longer years, it used to be a ‘death sentence’. It was expensive to manage and once infected a person’s life was automatically in danger.
The author reveals in his book that the disease is no respecter of persons or position. So, through fiction, the story revolves around a prince called Ado, who is heir to the royal seat of Ejeh of Ankpa. Ado is also a prominent lawyer who is highly respected, but he has a major flaw, his lust for women and his unwillingness to heed to advice and warning. In the end, he is infected with the HIV virus and pays the ultimate price, death.
Ado’s eventual death isn’t the author’s strongest message in this book, but the painful stigmatization that follows. As soon as news went round, people avoided him like a plague. Even when he lost his father, the king, none of his employees and members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) came to condole with him. Worse still, the king makers found him unworthy of the throne due to his HIV status, even though he is the heir apparent.
In an earlier review of the book in 1997, both the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and renowned author, Late Cyprian Ekwensi, said the book gives a meaningful insight into the HIV/AIDS situation in the Nigerian context.
UNAIDS’s then Country Programme Advisor, Dr. Ofosu Barko, wrote: “’Blood Enemy’ tells the story of HIV and AIDS in such a cultural context that every Nigerian can identify with. It addresses the issue of HIV/AIDS confronting humanity, and some of the challenges facing Nigeria is her response to the epidemic. Aliyu Sani by his book has made a very important contribution to the AIDS efforts in Nigeria and beyond. ‘Blood Enemy’ should be made widely available to young people and the reading public. The book should also be made available throughout the educational system, by the federal government, with the support of parastatal organizations and the private sector.”
In his own review, Cyprian Ekwensi wrote: “’Blood Enemy’ creates that essential awareness about HIV/AIDS. It is a book that should not just be read and cast aside, but passed on to more readers. This is a task for education authorities and health workers at all levels, to whom the book is also hereby recommended as a support for their uphill task of bringing home the horrible realities of AIDS.”
So, by and large, posterity will always remember the author for lending his voice against the deadly virus which was then a death sentence but now manageable

Court Forfeits N1.4bn Paris, London Club Funds Laundered By Senate President Bukola Saraki And His Aides

Justice Cecelia Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court, in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered that the total sum of N1.4billion, which is part of the refunded Paris and London Club Loans domiciled at Access Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), be temporary forfeited to the Federal government of Nigeria.

The funds were traced to Senate President Bukola Saraki and his aides who took the funds from the Nigeria Governor’s Forum and laundered most of it through jewelry sellers in Dubai

Justice Olatoregun made the order on Friday in accordance to an exparte application filed and argued by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) through its lawyer, E. E. Iheanacho.

Apart from the order of temporary forfeiture of the above-stated amount, the court also ordered the EFCC to notify whoever is interested in the said money to appear before the court and show cause why the money should not be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Christianity EtcCapitalism And Church The Way Forward by ibsals(op): 7:30pm On Oct 13, 2017
*CAPITALISM AND THE CHURCH... THE WAY FORWARD.*

There is a work side to prosperity. *It is the works of our hand God blesses.*

People are in farms planting yams and you are busy sitting in Church, when it is harvesting time; don't expect yams to fall from heaven. When it is eating time; people are eating and you are "believing" God for yams.

*Faith without work is dead.* _There should be a corresponding action in line of faith._

When the gospel came to Africa, the Missionaries saw two vital areas of deficiencies; hospital and school. They filled these gaps. Today, directly or indirectly, we have all benefited from it.

Today, we have a major problem; *Unemployment.* Instead of filling this gap we are taking advantage of it.

We gather the unemployed and "prophesy" jobs to them. We give them stickers, sell "holy water", tell them to sow and expect harvest, convincing them to "work" for the Lord; that breakthrough is coming... All these we do to exploit and explore the vulnerable.

We have gone to Isreal and seen the agricultural exploits there. But we are not willing to bring them home.

When we sow, instead of our money to be invested into ventures like agriculture that would alleviate the sufferings of the weak ones among us, we channel the money to an atheist in Germany who designed MOG's customised car.
We channel the money to Buddhists in China where we bought our building materials. We channel the money to a gay in America who produced the sound system and lighting system. We channel the money to a Muslim in Dubai who did the interior decoration of our " magnificent " building...what a Capital Flight!

Why are we crying of poverty and for breakthrough? The God that I know responds to work wherever he sees man doing something to advance humanity, be it a Hindu, Gay, Buddhist, atheist, etc.

I don't want to start mentioning names, neither do I want to indict any person. But just imagine Living Faith going into *Rice* production, RCCG going into *Cassava* production, Christ Embassy into *Maize,* God's Chosen into *Yams,* Catholics into *Millets* etc.

The land is there, the manpower is there, the money is there; like the Missionaries, who saw a problem and filled it, we can also fill this problem of unemployment and food security.

Just imagine a church sending hundreds of trailer load of food to evangelise the North. No man can resist love. Feed them in love and watch how their hearts change. That was how the Missionaries changed the hearts of our forebears.

The Missionaries have tried for us, and instead of us to keep pressing northwards, we have resulted in building empires. We have commercialized the *Gospel*. It is all about breakthrough, money and less Jesus, His Person, His Sacrifice and Finished works.

We have the manpower to feed Nigeria and Africa, generate employment by adding values to farm produce and exporting them, and of course the assured cash that will follow.

We have travelled abroad and have seen great agricultural exploits, it is time to bring these inventions home. It is time we convert all the exotic cars in our garages to tractors and other mechanised and modern agricultural tools. Doing what government cannot do, by doing this; "THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER ".

When we roar, the government is supposed to quiver, not because of our large bank accounts, but because of our intimidating exploits.

It is time to wake-up... I see a day when we shall be holding our numerous Church services in farms and factories. It is time to take the government upon Hi,s shoulder. It is action time!

Nairaland GeneralAirport Concession And Matters Arising by ibsals(op): 6:37am On Oct 12, 2017
AIRPORTS CONCESSION & MATTERS ARISING

By Lateef Lawal

The planned concession of four international airports of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt drew widespread condemnations and criticisms is still on the ‘ burner’.

Reports indicated that the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation last week to defend his stand and that of the Presidency on the fexed issue.

Many issues have been raised by various stakeholders as to whether or not the concession should stand.

One area that has been left largely untouched or discussed is that of the legal aspect of the proposal.

For a start, it is fact that that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was established through a legal document in August, 1995 and the Act listed the means by which it shall fund its operations apart from grants/subventions from the Federal Government.

It must be noted however that FAAN has been able to sustain its operations from its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for years without any subvention from the government and the four airports, led by MMIA are known to the government as viable.

Why then do you want to concession a going and profitable airport?

Why not concession 16 Unviable Airports scattered across our landscape?

Less we forget, The sources of revenue listed in the FAAN Act of 1995 states inter-alia:”.....shall include: Fees jn respect of services provided by the Authority including---

>Landing Fees

>Parking Fees

>Passenger Service Charge(local & international

>Rents

>Concession Fees

>VIP Lounges Charges

>Utilities

>Fuel Dump Charge

>Port Charge

>Frontier Service Charge

>Sales Information

>Contract Registeration Fees

>Rental of Warehouse

>Rental of Plant & Equipment

>Fines

>Car Parks Charge and

>Aviobridge Charges

Out of these 17 revenue sources, one should ask the Vice President who announced the FEC approval of concession of the four airports that did the Minister, Sirika infoed the Council-in-Chamber on which of these items were listed for cocessioning?

This is an important question because aost all the revenue points have already been concessioned to private companies by FAAN through written legal agreements stating the tenure of such concession ranging from five to thirty years with the knowledge of the approving Minister.

Will the government, with a wave of the hand force FAAN to renege on those agreements for the sake of this "hydra headed" concession?

Did the Presidency, the Aviation Minister(State) ever consider a probable legal battle that will follow and attendant huge cost to the purse of government?

There are more questions than answers.

The recently commissioned multi-story car park at Lagos Airport with capacity for 1,300 cars has already been concessioned to the contractor that financed its construction. The tenure of the current concession is more than 20 years.

Will the contractor go to sleep and not engage the government in legal tussle to ensure that the company’s rights are not trampled upon by the presidency in a democracy.

The Chinese built terminal at MMIA from the €500m loan secured for that purpose has also been concessioned for over 20 years. Will the Chinese consortium be driven away without incurring the wrath of China.

Almost 98 per cent of all the sources of revenue have been concessioned one way or another.

The question arising from this is- What is then left to be concession in all the four airports listed.

Our leaders don't learn from history. When Nigeria Airways was liquidated through fiat by the then administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's and all the assets were sold in pieces to various interest groups.

Pay-off cum pension of laid off workers has become an Albatross to successive governments since 2004- a period of 13years- until lately when the present government said it has set aside certain amount to settle all the labour issues arising from the illegal liquidation of WT.

Nigeria Airways, it would be recalled was established through an Act of Parliament in 1957 and if at all there there is any reason to liquidate it, the Obasanjo administration ought to forward an executive bill to the parliament to repeal the FAAN Act.

It is after the repeal by the legislature and Bill signed into law that the process leading to liquidation can begin. The government and its officials knew this then, they just choose to ignore the legal process.

This government is threading the same ignoble path.

FAAN was established through an Act in August, 1995 and if at all the present government in its "wisdom" wanted to take away from FAAN the airports of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt for whatever reason, the National Assembly ought to have been approached first through an executive bill for consideration and approval.

It is only then that the presidency can come up with its plan to conceded the airports to private hands.

This government need to rethink this ' Ostrich' of a project and drop its egocentric approach.

LET TRUE FACTS BE TOLD, NO HAUSA HAVE RULED NIGERIA.

Nigeria got the independence in 1960 which is 57 years now.

Let's look at the records:

The longest serving president in Nigeria is a Northern Christian minority Yakubu Gowon 9 years. He's Angas by tribe from North Central.

Followed by a Nupe man another minority from North Central IBB. He ruled for 8 years.

A kanuri man from Borno, Abacha ruled for 5 years. Kanuri is another minority from North East.

Tafawa Balewa ruled for 6 years a Northern minority from Balewa North East as prime minister . While Zik was the president.

Murtala Mohammed from Auchi but Born in kano ruled for a year before he was assassinated.

Shagari a Fulani man from Sokoto, from core North ruled for 4 years.

Yaradua a Fulani man from Katsina, a core north ruled for 2 years

Abdulsalam a Gwari minority from Niger North Central ruled for 1 year.

Buhari ruled for 10 months(1st time) and now in his 3rd year(2nd time).

Obasanjo a Yoruba man from South West ruled for 3 and half years.

Same Obasanjo a Yoruba man ruled for 8 years.

Shonekan a Yoruba man from South West ruled for 6 months.

Jonathan a minority from South South ruled for 6 years.

Aquiyi ironsi for 7 months from guess where? Abia State.

If you check the whole record, Hausa man never ruled Nigeria.

All the 3 Fulani president, Buhari , Yaradua and Buhari again have ruled for 10 years to date.

Yorubas 12 years

Angas(present day Kanke) for 9 years

Nupe 8 years

Ijaw almost 6 years

Gwari 1 year

Kanuri 5 years

Ironsi : 7 months

Igbos zero month (if we say Ironsi is not an igbo man)

And if you look at the 57 years rule

Muslim rule for 29.5 years

Christian rule for 27.5 years ( Zik presidency not added).

But I keep wondering why some Nigerians keep calling Hausa - Muslim Born to rule.

Many are very economical with the truth, what Obasanjo spent in power is more than what the whole Fulanis spent even if Buhari finish this tenure.

And here is a shocker, the Hausas are actually a majority. Imagine if they begin to look at issues from tribal perspective and begin to emotionally blackmail us all with cries of marginalization which factually is true.

But the poor Hausa man is not. For one way, he understands that we all have been marginalized. Our war should be against the class marginalization. The rich versus the poor.

For it is the same thing that a poor man from Nupe, or the poor man from Efik, Igala, Kanuri, Fulani etc suffers that the poor Hausa man suffers likewise the poor Igbo man. That class disparity ought to be our war. Not the hate resulting from lies that an Hausa man have ruled us for 200 years when infact the true tally is zero.

We are better together. Yes we have grievances, but blackmail, lies, propaganda won't solve them for us. Only the truth can and will.

Nairaland GeneralLet's Think Lives First Before Any Other Thing by ibsals(op): 10:53am On Sep 16, 2017
LET’S THINK LIVES FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

Dear friends,

We are staring at one of the most dangerous situations that this country has ever faced since its independence.

Sadly, most of us don’t realize how close we are to a national catastrophe that threatens the lives of millions of our citizens.

There is an African saying that you first drive the kite before scolding the little chicken for wandering far from its mother.

LET’S THINK LIVES FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!!!

So I appeal to all of us to first and foremost do the best within our powers to take every an all action that prevents further loss of lives FIRST.

I have observed with amazement and shock how many Nigerians have taken to social media to send messages and rhetoric that continue to fan embers of discord, division, hate, and violence.

I have also seen troubling videos of unarmed civilians being dehumanized by people dressed in Military uniform. And youths stopping vehicles to search for civilians from a particular ethnicity with intent to harm them.

These are reprehensible, condemnable, and inexcusable to every human being with any atom of conscience and morality, no matter where you come from.

Whatever has led to where we are as a nation, the first thing I urge of all of us is RESTRAIN!

Especially in spreading messages and rumours that is capable of inciting those who may not reason like we do, or appreciate that we can at least live in peace without violence despite our differences.

This is how Rwanda started. And nobody thought it could get worse. Until MILLIONS of lives were lost.

With the lives of over 160 million people at stake, we cannot afford the cost or consequences of this disaster that is staring us in the face.

While we will all agree that the Nigerian nation like all of us has its huge flaws, we will also agree that the cost of descending into hate speeches, violence, and ethnic conflicts is a far scarier price to pay, than to through strategic pressure, lobbying, and dialogue pursue our respective causes.

I have always told people close to me that no matter how unrealistic it may look, especially in the face of daunting obstacles; that nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. This includes business, social, and political ideas.

Please, let us stop this thing from getting worse. To let the injustices and hatred in a few individuals triumph over us and the mutual respect, and friendship we share with each other.

The first step is for all of us to cease for spreading messages or contents that continue to inflame, and incite people.

I reiterate that this is no time to trade blames or call names.

We are humans first. Before, Nigerian, Northerner, or Southerner.

Like Benjamin Franklin said. There never was a good war, or a bad peace.

May God save us all.

In 2008 was not felt. But in her second coming there was no political will to save During Jonathan Regime that Nigerians should wait for had time. And just last month former Anambra state Governor Peter Obi said Okonjo Iweala and Sanusi warned them to safe but they refuse to. And beside Nigeria crude pomping per day during last administration was 2600 BPD but now 1600BPD no one ask. We should not be used by politician to spread rumor of hate. Remember the implementation of TSA and BVN affect the politician negatively. Because they are kleptomaniac. We should also blame our Governors because they are the major problem the ought to bring Development close to people not the federal Government. They re responsible for our state and local government roads hospital, schools, water supply, housing and security of life and property in the state. How many of the Governor keep to their promise. After Running their state dry they move to the senate. We see nothing wrong in that cos they re our kinsmen or we worship together. We should hold the Governor to account for their stewardship. If you re tired of peace Go and watch Hotel Rwanda or Sometime in April or ask any old one that witness Biafra war. How old was KANU during Biafra war. People that witness it will not want to see the repeat of such. Be wise my brothers. How many of the politician children are here with you in Nigeria. They re all abroad, even any commotion start they Will not be affected cos their families are all abroad. Nigeria is our country we should live united as one

TravelConcessioning Viable Airports Is Economic Terrorism- Airport Professionals by ibsals(op): 2:22pm On Aug 04, 2016
group of airport professionals have given a verdict on the proposed concession of the nation’s viable airports describing the proposal as economic terrorism giving the fact that the airports projected for concession are capital spinning assets and not liabilities as proponents of concession would like the nation to believe.

In a presentation coupled with a comparison analysis of what entails in the United States of America obtained by Nigerianflightdeck, the group’s representative, Engineer Mohammed Sadiq (FNSE), a former Director of Engineering Services of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the airports are capable of operating without capital from government while contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to him, FAAN generates N33billion annually and can contribute 25% of this to the Federal government and also stated that the on-going construction of new terminal buildings in the international airports can easily be paid for by FAAN since it is at a very low-interest rate of 2% and payable over 22 years.

Sadiq said,” it is this economic viability of our airport system that the economic terrorists are targeting by advocating privatisation of the only viable international airports to the detriment of the overall development of the other airports and by extension the development of the country.”

According to his analogy, the United States is undoubtedly, the most capitalist of all nations but all the biggest and most profitable airports in that country are owned and operated by government-either State, City or Local Government Authorities.

He gave a rundown of some of the airports stating that the busiest Airport in the World, Hartfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta  generates $24b and it is managed by the Local City Council of Atlanta; JFK New York is owned and managed by New York and New Jersey Cities; O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, generates $14.1b and it is owned and managed by the City of Chicago; others are Miami International Airport, Florida; San Francisco International Airport, California; McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas Nevada; Charllote Douglas International Airport, North Carolina; All these Airports are owned and operated by City Councils, which are government agencies.

Sadiq said, “We notice that the revenue generated by the busiest airport in the World, Hartfield-Jackson International Airport is about $24b. This is equivalent to about N7.2trillion; that is more than the N6trillion Naira budget of Nigeria. It is this cash haven that the greedy politicians are targeting instead of allowing the whole Nigerian Citizens to benefit from it.”

On the advantages of Government ownership and management of airports, Sadiq listed safety and security of the entire nation, infrastructural development, national development, financial contribution to the Treasury Single Account (TSA), loss of experienced personnel, and amazement at the level of greed and principle of greatest good for the greatest number of people.

On safety and security he said, “All airports are considered as boarders of the host country. So they are security posts. The entire security of the nation can be compromised if the Airports are in private hands. Setting up a Government security apparatus to oversee the security cannot solve the problems because the Private Airport Operator can create avenues to circumvent security in the transportation of arms and ammunitions, drugs, fake currency and other dangerous goods. The Government will then need the cooperation of the Operator of the Airport to securely manage the whole airport infra-structure.”

“But with the present Government ownership and FAAN management of airports such nefarious activities cannot be entertained. This is one of the reasons why FAAN should be strengthened to run the Airports in a profitable manner and then pay a large percentage of their earnings to the Federal Government through the TSA.

Explaining how government ownership can boost infrastructural development, Saiq said the Private Operators of Airports are only interested in milking the system and leaving it dry and fallow at the end of the day.

“These so-called private operators only concentrate their attention on the Terminal Buildings. They don’t contribute to the maintenance of the Airports’ most critical safety infrastructures namely the Runway, Taxiway, Apron, navigational aids, Airport Ground Lighting system, Fire and Safety Service, Airport Perimeter fencing and the general maintenance of the airside.”

On national development he said FAAN has been operating the Nigeria’s single Airport System by cross-subsidizing the smaller airports that cannot break even on their own from the revenue generated by the bigger airports.

“If the few (actually two) viable airports are selected and concessioned, the other unviable airports are being deliberately killed by the greed of the concession advocates. This is not in the best interest of the country because most parts of the country will be disadvantaged by such a policy. Out of the twenty Six airports, including six state-owned airports, only two airports (MMA and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airports) are viable.”

“Cherry-picking the viable airports for concessioning will make the other airports neglected, unoperational and eventually become moribund.”

Presently, he noted, the total revenue accruing to FAAN goes to the Federal Government Account through the TSA. But if the viable Airports are Cherry-picked and concessioned, the whole money goes to the Concessionaire thereby depriving the Federal Government of the critically needed revenue for infrastructural development.

“MM2 was concessioned to Bi-Courtney since 2001(16 years ago). Bi- Courtney has not paid a single kobo to FAAN since that time in the form of 5% Concession fees”, he said.

Sadiq further noted that concession is against the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number of people in our circumstance as a developing nation.

“The President was voted into power by recognition of his integrity, popularity and concern for the common man. Concessioning of productive public assets portrays the exact opposite of what Mr. President is noted for, for being people-oriented. Concession bears the indelible mark of patronage of the favored few rich men of the society as against the people-centric policy and greatest interest of the greatest number of people policy of Mr. President.”
