Brunosamel: maybe you got it all wrong, you didn't teach her or persuaded her to be romantic... Because it really matters in the kind of relationship... You may be right. I got attracted to her because was beautiful but as time went on I realised that she was romantically stiff. I did the best I can but it wasn't really working out. The relationship was becoming mechanical and boring so I had to throw in the towel. |

claremont: It depends on how much you intend investing, your risk threshold, and how much passive income you desire. If you want a relatively safe investment with returns higher than that of a conventional savings account, try mutual funds/investment trusts. On a £20,000 investment, you are looking at an average of £100 steady income monthly. The more you invest, the more income you get. If you live in the North, there are a few properties being sold cheaply for cash. You can buy and give them out for rental income, a £40,000 investment buying a property should yield £200 income a month after expenses. Since you are going to be in the UK long-term, try building a good credit profile. It would help you in the future for mortgages, credit cards e.t.c. Hi Claremont... Could you please provide more details about this mutual/ investment trusts? I have got a reasonable amount of money which i do not intend to use till the next 2 years. I am looking for where to invest it instead of it lying fallow in my bank account. Thanks |

efficiencie: Research topics or research themes? Industry funded doctorate degrees seek a select set of persons whose line of research are thematically related to their research interests. However what can we say about researchers who have developed interest and might have developed background knowledge of a specific area in his discipline with the hope to doing original research at the PhD level but gets to meet a supervisor who suggests another topic without considering the originality and significance of the researcher's proposed topic thus skewing the researcher off its path. It is not out of place to be provided with a research topic. The link, http://www.jobs.ac.uk/phd provides a number of funded doctoral opportunities with a research topic . As one of the requirements, potential PhD students are usually interviewed to determine their suitability and competence. If for some reasons, your potential supervisor insists on a topic completely unrelated to your research interests, you can always look for another supervisor. If the suggested topic by your potential supervisor is still within your research interests or closely related to your original idea, the wise thing to do is to take his advice since he knows better. |

My Advice: 1. Develop a strong skill base before considering a PhD career 2. Look for academic mentors and share your ideas with them 3. Attend symposiums, conferences and publish with indexed journals (Google Scholar, ISI web of Science, SCimago,Scopus) as early as possible 4. Think of novel ideas that will be relevant to your base environment. Lookout for problems that needs urgent solutions. 5. Engage in Academic volunteering with professional bodies like IEEE, NCS, NSE, etc. 6. Publish! Publish! and Publish! (Standard research output should be published in Indexed IF Journals. - Avoid Predatory Journals that publishes for Free! (Be Warned).See bells list. (https://scholarlyoa.com/2016/01/05/bealls-list-of-predatory-publishers-2016/) 7. Source for external/internal grants as well as scholarship opportunities 8. Make Internet your very Close-Friend and Join Academic Social Networks...... 9. Ask lots of questions and allow for criticisms. 10. Visit my URLs below for better inspiration 11. Finally, let God be your driving passion. Seek him first with all your heart and be positive at all times. I will help most of the young PhD folks in this platform regarding their research areas (Check my list). Ask meaningful questions pls. God bless you all.

I have not publish any paper before and it seems to be a very daunting task for me considering the fact that i have a very strong background in software development where i think in codes and data, writing a scientific paper is a very challenging task for me.
