How can you have Algeria, Egypt, Mali and Nigeria in one group and have useless teams like SA, Zambia in another?

The only teams worth a mention in Group A is Senegal and Tunisia.....I don't even know how o feel about his U23 tournament because the set up is already wrong.

Mali and Senegalese teams will obviously have most of their players from the U20 world cup playing this tournament. What do we have? Nigeria has just been abysmal, it will be a miracle if we qualify from our group sef

My dear forget about whether Senegal and Mali are presenting their U20 Teams. This is U23, if they chose to present an U20 or U21 team they are short-changing themselves. Besides, the Senegalese team that won the AAG was not mostly U20.

Nigeria are favorites to scale through that group. When it comes to football at this particular age grade Nigeria stands tall from amongst the other 3 teams in that group. We know we don't have our best legs available for the qualifiers but one thing I know is that the team is good enough to pick the ticket. One thing I like abt this team is they know how to play good football and also create lots of chances which is typical of Siasia's teams. Meanwhile Dream Team 5-0 Gambia U20 .After d first game ended 1-1 Siasia requested for a rematch. grin

#GoalNGChat: Is Osimhen ready for the U23s?

The inclusion of the 16-year-old in Samson Siasia's squad for the Olympic qualifiers has raised a few eyebrows. Is the player ready to carry such a burden at this age?

Once again, it’s#GoalNGChattime this week; yet another issue of national footballing importance is placed on the front burner for discourse.

The African U23 Championship kicks off in a matter of days, with Nigeria’s campaign kicking off on the 29th of November against Mali. This tournament is intended as a qualifier for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The composition of Samson Siasia’s squad has been highlighted by the inclusion of Victor Osimhen. The lanky teenager announced himself at the U17 World Cup with 10 goals in seven games, but that was only last month!

Is he ready for this level, being only 16? That is the question:“Victor Osimhen: Too much, too soon?”

The #GoalNGChat comes up at 8:00p.m local time. All tweets into the event must include the hashtag: #GoalNGChat to be logged, and to also stand a chance of being included in the round-up editorial. See you then.
m.goal.com/x/en-ng/news/4055/main/2015/11/26/17719452/goalngchat-is-osimhen-ready-for-the-u23s

His inclusion was a desperate move by Coach Samson Siasia due to lack of quality U23 strikers in the Nigerian league. He was not sure of the availability of Isaac Success and Taiwo Awoniyi though there is also Junior Ajayi. Osimhen was initially rumored to have been dropped but after it was certain that Success will not be available was called back.

I dnt think Osimhen will be expected to play any major role. The two main strikers are Awoniyi and Ajayi. Osimhen may jst be given some playing time when d need arises and I think it will be a good learning experience for him. Five years down the lane (2020 Olympics) we hope to see a fully matured Osimhen in the Olympics team.

Hehehehehe..... Sir Icon4s, thanks once again for your updates on the eligibility of our boys for South Korea 2017.

But, you can now REMOVE MUSA YAHAYA FROM YOUR LIST OF "INELIGIBLES".

His birth date is December 16 1997. Besides, think about it...... Why do you think he's yet to sign a pro-deal? 1st reason is this: he's not 18 yet. *smiles*

He'll clock 18 by 16th of next month, then he'll be ripe to sign a pro-deal and likely will go to Celta de vigo in Spain (on loan I think or on permanent sale from Tottenham). Unless, another offer pops up for him.

In conclusion, MUSA YAHAYA IS "INDEED" ELIGIBLE.

WIKIPEDIA GOT IT WRONG. *smiles*

Wikipedia has a wrong age for d boy then.

Infact the thought of Musa Yahaya nt beinh eligible almost spoilt my day. Thank God we know he is eligible now.I was confused bc we know he was supposed to sign d Spurs contract when he turns 18. Hey! so Imagine Yahaya, Chukwueze, Mathew playing beyind Awoniyi and Osimhen in dat team. And K. Nwakali bossing things from d middle of d field. Hahaha, we are waiting. But Matthew plays in like position with K Nwakali.

That Canada 87 I cry so tay.

In the finals the Russians were more efficient the Nigerians were playing more with the ball, On the balance of play we might say we were lucky it got to penalties

I will never forget that game. Nigeria was the better side. Demija Lawal, Christ Nwosu and Philip Osondu were all over the Russian defence. The Russians were more tactical while d Nigerian boys were having an exhibition game. I saw d best of Dimeja Lawal dat dey.

I will never forget d penalty shoot out where I think only only Dimeji Scored his penalty through a trickery move.

My elder brother and I were un-consolable. We wept that night that our eurs were still red on sunday morning which was next. The Canada 87 boys are only next to 1993 & 2013 set. Those boys were good.

Thank God we avenged that lose 2 yrs later at Damam in Saudi Arabia in 1989 (miracle of Damam)

Those were d golden days of our youth football.Nigeria ruled d world at youth levels in the mid to late 80s. But I think we are back dominating again (U17s only) for the past 8yrs.

Permit me to say dat Samuel Chukwueze is d Kelechi Iheanacho of this team. And also permit me to say that Kelechi Nwakali seems to b over-rated and I am seeing some element of pride and selfishness in his game. Somebody should tell him d story of Haruna Lukman cos dat is his equivalent.

Even if we lose the next game to croatia,we'll still top the table with 6points and croatia finishing with 5. Hence,I think Coach Amunike should field the boys on the bench for the final group game so that everybody will have a feel of the tournament.
Who knows,he might discover another key player from the reserve bench

Nops! Discover which player that he has nt discovered since campings and invitational tourneys and friendlies.

The team is still work in progress. I feel he should start with most of his regulars. They are improving with every game and we must build on that. Team building is key here. He can make any sort of substitutions after like 75mins into d game.

Observation: Our players are terrible with penalties. We could have missed all three. Amuneke needs to work on dat.

are they kids? We're talking boys who have won A WC, there can't be any more pressure than that. If you keep waiting for them, they'll never be ready. Martial is 19 and playing for France, a bigger team with more talent than this Nigerian team, so what are we talking of here?

And does dat mean Martial has replaced Karim Benzema as d first choice Centre Forward? U compare the pressure of U17 with Senior team football. Besides u can experiment with a kid in attacking positions and get away with it bt not in d defence. Defenders need a longer time to mature. Somebody like Iheanacho can more easily fit into d Super Eagles attack (which is y I dnt critise ur inclusion of him in ur 4-3-3 formation) than a Wilfred Ndidi in a centre back position when we still have Omeruo, Obaobona and Ambrose?
Ndidi dat was invited after Obabona was stranded in Turkey.
Musa Mohamed can at best for now deputise for Leon Balogun at right back.

As far as the defence goes, Musa Mohammed and Wilfred Ndidi can take the RB and CD positions respectively. The attack, we'll need Victor Moses back to partner Simon Moses with Ighalo taking Emenike's position. Will be nice to have Iheanacho between Mikel and Onazi as an AM in a 4-3-3 formation. He should offer a striking option outside the forward 3

I dnt agree with Musa Mohammed and Ndidi taking RB and CB. This is d Super Eagles.

Leone Balogun is a RB, Efe Ambrose is a natural CB. So Ambrose partners with Omeruo as centre backs. Musa Mohamed and Wilfred Ndidi can deputise from d bench for now. Let them go to d Olympics first we can then assess them and know if they are fully ready for senior team action as defenders. Experience counts alot in d defence.

These Lads are looking good I must say.

Victor Osimhen got a brace in the game while Samuel Chukwueze got the team's other goal.

Our no.9 is truly one player to watch especially recalling he netted a goal in the team's 2-1 win over World cup-bound Argentina u-17.

He's the team's overall top scorer and was the top scorer @ the Caf u-17 Afcon.

These lads may not be as "embarassingly" talented as the class of 2013 but they do have a way of springing surprises especially when the top talents in the side are in "killer mode".

All the best Golden Eaglets......... "Maybe" you may do the "impossible"- *defending the title*

*smiles*

Yeah they may nt be as smashingly good as the last U17 bt i believe they still have what it takes to challenge for the title.
The last Eaglets were better by miles thann d other teams. With good tactics and technical and tactical descipline this team might jst win it. This is a much improved team from d CAF U17. Beating Argentina in their home soil is a pointer to what d team is in Chile to achieve.

About our defence i noticed Ambrose could actually be a top CB if he chills on the mental error. Ok i can't help myself Leon Balogun can end up being our Gerard Pique, too much hype? And why do our full backs drop back so far? I know it is for a tactical purpose but i feel our full backs can do more going forward.

Efe Ambrose is a natural centre back.
In 2007 FIFA U20 WC and 2008 Olympics he played Centre back. Even during d era of Siasia as coach of d Super Eagles he was centre back. The switch to right back started under Keshi when after Chidi Odiah fell short there was no quality players in Europe to fill dat position. Remember players like Terna Suswam and Solomon Kwambe were tried in dat position bt dey could nt fit into dat big shoe. Efe Ambrose was drafted to right back even though he still plays as centre back at Celtic.

And Leon Balogun played Centre back too bc of d absence of Obaobona and Omeruo. Balogun is a right back. So on a good day our back line should look like this:

Balogun..Ambrose..Omeruo..Echiejile

subs: Madu, Ndidi, Troost-Ekong, Obaobona.

Abdulahi Shehu is a natural midfielder that was jst converted to play right back bc our defenders were short in numbers.

We need consistency in our back 4 to help solidify d defence.

REALLY You seriously compare retired and semi-retired players like Shola, Utaka, Taye, Chidi and Ayila with someone playing top flight football? You compare Osaze that has not played for months because he's been blighted with injuries with someone who scores almost in every game and whose goals get nominated for goal of the week regularly?

WOW. This is serious!

U call MLS competitive. U say retired and semi retired players? For ur info all d players I mentioned are still playing in Europe. The Osaze u are talking abt was even one of our best performers at d last WC jst barely over a yr ago. So if nt for injuries he still stands a better chance than Martins. Ameobi is currently in d books of Crystal Palace, John Utaka plays in French League2, Taye Taiwo plays in d Ukrainian top división, Ayila is some where in Eastern Europe I dnt know d where abt of Odiah since after he left CSKA.

The MLS is not even as competitive as d lower leagues in say France or Russia nt to talk of lower leagues in England, Spain and Germany . Martins in his current form cannot compete with young platers like: Isaac Success and Imoh Ezekiel even though they are less experienced. Where experience counts more is in goal keeping and defence.U think if Iheanacho was a defender he would b getting all d attention he is getting at ManCity? Forward positions are for fast adventurous players.

Drogber that won d MLS player of the minth, is he still featuring for d national team? When d likes of Thiery Henry, Robert Pirez & Nicholas Anielka went to d MLS they waved good bye to d national team. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrad are currently playing in d MLS but are they still with d 3Lions?

Immediately u leave Europe and go to d MLS jst know u are now a pensioneer.

To me Emenike should even be released nt to talk of Martins.

I have always been an advocate of the clamour for fielding of our best players. But I also believe in fielding of players based on current form and nt past glory. With the likes of Mikel, Echiejile, Ambrose, V Moses, Onazi, Musa,Emenike, Omeruo and Obaobona still in dat team there is a lot of experience already. We jst need back Aluko and Babatunde in dat midfield and with d inclusion if some U20/U23 players and Ighalo that team is good to go. So forget Martins he is now a pensioneer.

Do u have any link for the threat? I think Oliseh should invite Sone Aluko and Babatunde Michael , Michael is fast and can do a lot of damage with his skills , we need Isaac Success to replace Emenike . And we need a very good keeper to stand in that position to compete with Carl IKeme , d defense line need little adjustment , but when all of them are fully fit we can have solid rock in the back line

I dnt think i can lay my hands on any link bt that was in d news early last week when Victor Moses asked to b excused for fear of injuries.

On d backline I have always been of d opinion dat since we have Leon Balogun now Ambrose should go back to his central defencive position. Ambrose should b made to pair up with Omeruo at Centre back while Obaobona and Troost-Ekong deputise for d duo. Leon Balogun can play his natural right back. Hey! bt I thought Shehu Abdulahi used to play in d midfield (2013 FIFA U20 & 2014 CHAN). Oliseh has converted him to a right back which he did excellently well. For our left back, I think Echiejile's game has moved some steps backwards and so I would like to see more of Kingsley Madu in dat position. 4 or 5 members of dat defence are U23: Kingsley Madu, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Abdulahi Shehu and Wilfred Ndidi.
Consider these 5 Centre Forwards: Imoh Ezekiel, Aaron Samuel, Isaac Success, Taiwo Awoniyi, Junior Ajayi. All are U23.
Dnt even let me mention d wingers, attacking and central midfielders.

A very strong U23 team loading.....

Bro , I don't think so ....Moses had a minor knock and he did informed the coach officially about it ....let's just accept him. With his present form and skills Oliseh will be left wit so many options in the wing and I wish to see the 3 wingers on the pitch , either simon or victor Moses playing the free role , let enjoy fast counter attack for the first time in d super eagles .

Oliseh has come out quickly as usual to threaten nt to invite Victor Moses again as long as he remains coach. We cannot b losing our key players due to hasty decisions of Oliseh. I know d NFF will come into this one again. Oliseh must invite Victor Moses for our next month's WC qualifiers. I will also like to see Sone Aluko and Michael Babatunde back in dat midfield as Rabiu and Obiorah are nt measuring up.And I think its high time d coach lets go of Emenike. We have waited enough for him to regain form. Oliseh should give dat spot to any of Aaron Samuel, Isaac Success or Imoh Ezekiel.

U forgot to mention Saviour Godwin that kept Simon Moses on d bench for much of d FIFA U20 WC. Alex Iwobi has also joined d list of wingers. And all are elligible to play for the U23.

Did anybody say we missed a big chance by Jordon Ibe chosing to play for England. Nops i dnt think so cos Simon and Saviour are better than Ibe.

1. Captaincy
2. If Oliseh decides nt to invite Victor Moses
3. Quota system. grin

Simon Moses is a better version of Ahmed Musa. Simon has speed, dribbling skills, good positional Sense, excellent first touches, good eye for goal and very importantly also d stamina to keep running at defenders for 90mins! shocked

First off, I want all Nigerians to forget about qualifying for AFCON 2017, it won't happen with this rift. Oliseh was wrong on all counts in this rift. The last player you should ever attack is the pillar of the team, the head capo, ask Didier Deschamps what Anelka did to him. Why pick on Enyeama? Enyeama has loyalists in that team that can and will rebel against Oliseh until he loses that job and they prove he was never meant to be a coach. Oliseh is displaying an arrogance he hasn't earned considering he's won nothing of note as SE coach. And making Musa captain? Who will take orders from Musa? Is it Mikel, Emenike or the ousted Enyeama? Does Musa look like a leader? Apart from his scrawny nature, how old is he? Someone who can't even speak up when he's wronged, how will he speak on behalf of his team mates? The only place Oliseh's myopic decisions will take he and that team is down. I just want him out ASAP cuz he's apparently not The Chosen One to bring sanity to our football. Cc: blueto, dannycrusoe, terzurum, thesupernerd, icon4s, bascovanveli, joseph1013

Oliseh, IMHO miss fired on this one. Infact he owes our Captain appologies. The security guys even bundled him out in d presence of younger players.
Oliseh is telling us he is nt matured enough to coach d Super Eagles.

It is a big shame. Instead of we honouring our heroes we disgrace them out of d national team. There is hardly any Super Eagles player dat retires well with dexception of Kanu and Okocha.

Oliseh has refused to learn from Siasia and Keshi hu were fond of fighting with there key players which majorly led to their downfall.

Oliseh thinks bc he had Carl Ikeme so Enyeama can go to blazes. Hu is Carl Ikeme? Bc he kept a clean sheet againat Tanzania and Niger.
