You seem to know a lot (even though your only reference is an editable page on Wiki) about the word NOVEL
Everybody knows that a novel is a "usually" long narrative story, in which the characters and events are imaginary.

I never said that novels are not lengthy.

But what we don't know is that; the length of the narrative is the only determinant of a novel. grin grin grin grin grin

Talk about insecurity!

How come you never said that until now? grin grin

OK, tell us what you know about a novel beyond the surface definition given by Wikipedia. I mean what you feel a novel is.

And you should (for your own good) ask Wiki to define a NOVELLA, SHORT STORY and SHORT FICTION and post your findings here (if you have the time)
I asked you a question and you're replying with a question!

Get more materials on the word NOVEL.

I am not running. Why would I run? I am calm. It is you who is trembling.

I still insist Chike and The River is not a novel. It is a short fiction and it is not a novel because it is shorter than a novel.
You're not trembling yet you find seriousness in my jokes, like my joke about Kenyans grin grin grin

Your reason for saying C.A.R is not a novel is because it's not lengthy, according to you.

Your said the length of a narrative is the only factor that makes it a novel. grin grin

Please kindly tell us where you were taught that the length of a narrative is the only determinant of a novel. grin grin grin

[s]Anyone with sense will know that I have been calm while you have been the one running around. Your smiley do not cover your insecurity on this matter.
As a writer then, it was easier to get published then than now when we don't have a lot of traditional publishing outfits willing to take risk on new books.
Plays hardly get published in the same year. Most playwrights then were more concerned with performing their plays in as many theatres as possible rather than publishing them.[/s]
Such an addled being! grin

Running won't save you.

Who got published first?

Who gained international recognition first?

Tell us where you were taught that narrative length is the only determinant of a novel. grin grin grin grin grin

This is the definition of a novel, from Wikipedia;
A novel is a long narrative, normally in prose, which describes fictional characters and events, usually in the form of a sequential story.

But according to haifia(sic), a narrative can be called a novel only when it's lengthy. grin grin grin

You are obviously not a good reader. Didn't I say that the only difference is publication?

And didn't you say that she wrote it for herself?
You're just running from pillar to post like a troubled ant. grin

I was being sarcastic when I said she wrote for herself, go back and check you'll see a smiley attached to that sentence.

In those days, for an African to get published in English language, do you think its easy?

Why was Aidoo not published the same year she wrote and performed her play?

One person attained international recognition before 1967 and the other attained international recognition after 1967.

Please, stop embarrassing yourself. You don't know literature.

Plays don't get published immediately they were written (at least then). They were first performed on stage.
What crap are you saying?

Who got published first?

Did I say plays get published before performing them?

Nwapa got internationally published before her, simple and short.

Nwapa attained international recognition before her.

Flora Nwapa is not the mother of modern African literature. Aidoo of Ghana wrote the first book that told a story from the viewpoint of women. Unfortunately, it was a play she wrote in 1965. Flora got published before her. That is the only difference. The woman who really started the idea of telling stories from an African woman's point of view was Ama Ata Aidoo of Ghana.

For the other questions, go and read on the differences between the forms of narratives I gave earlier. Why are you finding it difficult to go and read up on these things?
Stop running from pillar to post.

Nwapa wrote her first prose "Efuru" in 1966 and got internationally published, making her the first African woman to write a novel that was published in English language.

Aidoo wrote her first literal work in 1965 and didn't get published. Its obvious she wrote for herself alone. grin

Now contrast and compare.

Your questions;

I've surfed the internet without finding those literature scholars you said, they don't see C.A.R as a novel.

2) Tell us just one sane person who doesn't see C.A.R as a novel.

Nwapa is not the mother of modern literature. Such title doesn't exist in literature. She only got published first. There were African-American writers before her.

Narrative length is the only factor that distinguishes the novel from other familiar form of narratives.

[s]A narrative involves plots, subplots and characterization. But there are different types of narratives and that is where length comes in.
A novel is the biggest form of narrative. The micro flash fiction is the smallest.
The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway is even bigger than Chike and The River, yet, it is still a novella.
You should read up.[/s]
