“In recent times, the Nigerian Army has been doing remarkably well in not only repelling attacks but taking the fight to the enemy and decimating them in their enclaves.”- Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, Borno State Executive Governor.

Without any doubt, within the last ten years, the Nigerian military has been doing well in engaging and containing terrorists and insurgent groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP). It is to the admiration of all that today, the menace of these enemies of humanity have been restricted to the fringes of Lake Chad region, northern parts of Borno State at the borderline with neighbouring countries.

The unprecedented exploits were far more vigorous and noticeable from July 2015 under the current military leadership. The Nigerian Army in particular has greatly improved and changed from “a tactical maneuver force” to a courageous and cohesive one.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has rejuvenated, motivated and equipped the Nigerian Army to the extent that the terrorists are now scared of them.

The gallant troops have continued to decimate the Boko Haram terrorists sacking them from their erstwhile strongholds and fortresses including the once dreaded Sambisa forest which substantial part of it now serves as a training ground for the military.

This demonstration of valour, patriotism and professionalism leading to the liberation of communities in the Northeast and Lake Chad region which were hitherto held by the insurgents is a thing of pride and highly commendable. It exemplifies the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government in tackling and eradicating the menace of terrorism in the country.

It also signifies the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity, as well as, protection of lives and property of its citizens and residents.

According to some experts, the recent change of tactics and continued onslaught on the terrorists personally led by Lt. Gen. Buratai has resulted in the depletion of about 60 percent of the insurgents’ fighting force, obliterated their equipment and ammunition.

They now struggle with cudgels and rudimentary equipment and weapons, rationing ammunition where available. The terrorists’ pathetic situation is expected to further deteriorate as the insurgents daily suffer from sustained military bombardments and crisis of confidence among their rank and files due to the troops’ action.

Frightened by the superior might of the military, worsened by the leadership squabbles among the insurgents, the depleted and disoriented fighting force, coupled with insufficient funding, it is obvious that the odds are high against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. And if these parameters are anything to go by, then the end is clearly in sight for terrorism in Nigeria.

Recently, some media organizations reported that the jihadists are using back channels to request for amnesty and soft landing. It was reported that the self-acclaimed leader of the Jamatu ahli Sunnah aka Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, has personally sent emissaries.

This could be true given the recent audio message in which Shekau was sounding hysterical and pitiful. While this may sound interestingly flattering, due caution is advised. This is because on 28th April 2020, the Spokesman of the MNJTF Col. Timothy Antigha disclosed that intelligent sources revealed plans by terrorists to recruit young males to restock their holdings.

He further stressed that the recruitment drive will either be by cajoling, inductrinating or kidnapping of the would be recruits. Apparently, with Col. Timothy’s expose’ it is clear that a leopard can never change its skin. Despite these cheering news, it behooves on every citizen to come on deck, join hands with the military and other security agencies to finally eradicate this monster Boko Haram.

It is however gladdening to observe that the entire citizens of the Northeast have become tired of the menace of insurgency that has raveged the region for over a decade resulting to loss of countless of lives, displacement of millions of citizens and massive destruction of infrastructure.

Most residents of Borno and Yobe States are showing more commitment and are stressing that they are willing to assist security agencies to expose elements working for terrorists who live among them. They equally express their delight and optimism in the current onslaught by the military as a final defeat of the insurgents.

Part of a way to achieve this, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, Nigeria’s Hon. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy warned recently that terrorist organisations now recruit foot soldiers through the social media. He advised that the only way to stop recruitment is to discredit — indeed, utterly demolish — terrorists ideology. If young people think terrorists’ ideas are a bunch of baloney, they’ll ignore them and won’t join the cause.

Whatever happens, we the teeming youths of the North East have now vowed to be united in the fight against our arch enemies with total resolve to ending terrorism within the region.

Politics / No Room For Cowardice In Wiping Out Boko Haram/iswap Terrorists, Buratai Tells by IDanfulani(m): 10:45pm On Apr 16, 2020
FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER!

(Full text of Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai’s Special Message For Officers and Men of Operation LAFIYA DOLE on the Final Clearance of Boko Haram and ISWAP Terrorists”

Gentlemen officers and men of the Nigerian Army! Gallant officers and men of Operation LAFIYA DOLE! We are right here right now to carry out our solemn and righteous constitutional duties.

We are here to flush out these criminals who have been terrorizing and killing innocent and law abiding Nigerians! Officers and men of the Nigerian Army owe it a duty to save our country from the menace of terrorists, bandits and all forms of criminalities.

We owe it a duty to the Nigerian people and to our President and Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, for the confidence he has reposed in us to achieve the mandate the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has given us.

We owe it a duty to serve our fatherland and protect our fellow country men and women! Ours is a professional calling, a call to serve our dear country; a call to defend the territorial integrity of our fatherland, which we must all be proud of.

We must also be proud of our calling as professional soldiers and patriots. Therefore, we must go all out to stop and eliminate these criminals. We must do it now.

There is no better time than now! In this our honorable mission and endeavor, there is no room for the chicken-hearted.

The Nigerian Army of today is for the committed, disciplined, patriotic and selfless officers and soldiers which I believe you all are.

There is no room for cowardice and no room for the Lily livered ones. From now on it is FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER! The sacrifices of our fallen heroes must never be in vain! Nigerian Army officers and soldiers have no cause to despair as ours is a noble and patriotic cause.

It is a cause we must all be proud of. Gentlemen gallant commanders all levels, you must hold firmly to your officers and men.

You must instill confidence through your words and actions. In order to win the trust and confidence of their subordinates, commanders must never show fear or fatigue.

If they do that, they will lose all moral authority to lead and command their men.

You cannot and must not take men and equipment in to battle without situating it, without putting yourself through the whole course and playing out all the likely scenarios you may encounter and diligently working out all possible options.

We must be committed and fastidious. We must consider and workout the minutest details, factors and all possible outcomes in all our operations.

Let me reiterate and restate here that I have confidence in all my officers. I have confidence in all my commanders and I have confidence in you gallant soldiers of the Nigerian Army! Finally, I must remind you all that as leaders our focus must always be for the Nigerian Army.

We must think out of the box and beyond the box. I charge you all to move out and bring this war to a positive end! Victory is from God Alone! God bless our gallant troops participating in our various operations, God bless the Nigerian Army and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Politics / There Are No Chadian Forces On Nigeria's Territory - Army by IDanfulani(m): 8:32pm On Apr 10, 2020
The Nigerian Army has denied reports credited to a Chadian Army Officer that the Chadian forces were in some parts of Nigerian territory along the fringes of the Lake Chad area.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, disclosed this during a press briefing at Army Special Forces Super Camp at Ngamdu in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno on Friday.

Musa said that the clarification was necessary to correct the impression that the Nigerian forces were not physically present in some areas around the Lake Chad area.

According to him, the press statement was allegedly made in Baga-Sola Headquarters of Sector 2 MNJTF in Chad by the Chadian senior officer, one Colonel Azem Banadua Aguna on the 9th of April 2020.

He explained that the Nigerian military and the Chadian forces have been working together under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which has its Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad.

“The Nigerian Army’s attention has been drawn to the said statement now circulating on social media claiming that the security and Defence forces of Chad are deeply stationed in the islands of Niger and Nigeria wanted to handover to the respective army (sic) of these friendly nations.

“Nigerian Army wishes to state that there is no Chadian or any other foreign country’s troops on Nigerian side of the Lake Chad or in any other part of the Nigerian territory.

“As a responsible organisation, the Nigerian Army finds it necessary to clear the wrong impression or misinformation for history and posterity as well as to avoid spreading falsehood and mischievous publications,” he said.

Colonel Musa stressed that the Chadian operation at their side of the Lake Chad area was with the knowledge and support of Nigeria in line with the existing multilateral co-operation between the countries.

He added that the support was in honouring and furtherance of the existing multi-lateral cooperation between the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) countries under the MNJTF.

“The operation was especially welcomed and supported by the Nigerian Army because it would deny the insurgent’s rear and logistics bases in Chad from where they often plan and launched attacks into Nigeria.

“It is hoped that the Chadian forces will sustain operations on their side of the border to permanently deny Boko Haram criminals of rear bases from where they can launch operations into Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Chadian Operation BOMA WRATH took place only in Chadian territory and not on Nigerian territory.

“The Chadian security and Defence forces did not cross into Nigerian territory during the operation and thus there are no Chadian troops holding any Nigerian territory.

“The Nigerian Military is fully committed and in total support of the continued cooperation between Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria to finally and speedily decimate Boko Haram/ISWAP Criminals and put final end to terrorism in the region.

“Members of the public are requested to disregard the claim and misleading information that – “the Chadian security and Defence forces are deeply stationed in the islands of Nigeria waiting to handover,” he added.

It would be recalled that the controversial statement credited to the Chadian Defence authorities had been in circulation in different platforms since Thursday April 9, 2020
