State governors have expressed worry over the high exchange rate of the naira to other foreign currencies. They said this and other issues would be discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja later on Thursday. The concern about the naira exchange rate was one of the resolutions of the governors after their meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night. The meeting, which ended in the early hours of Thursday, was attended by most of the governors. The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, who is also the Governor of Zamafara State, Alhaji Abdullaziz Yari, read the communique of the meeting to journalists. The naira is currently being exchanged for about 243 to the United States dollar at the parallel market. Yari said, “We are going to discuss with Mr. President to seek lasting solutions to the worsening macroeconomic challenges confronting the nation, especially on foreign exchange stability. “The forum pledges to work with Mr. President to ensure coherent policy actions that will create a clear policy direction for the country and stimulate domestic production.” He also said that the forum discussed health issues and that the governors pledged to cooperate with the Federal Government to ensure that the National Health Act was implemented. The NGF chairman added, “We agreed to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that the National Health Act is operational and the one per cent funding for primary health care is provided for in the budget. “Sequel to the presentation made by the Country Representative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the forum agreed to aggressively support the total eradication of polio in the country.” Yari denied insinuations that the money recently given to the states by the Federal Government was meant to bail them out of their financial crises. Rather, he said what was shared was money from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited and Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, which he said were legitimate EARNINGS of the three tiers of government. The governor said, “It is also to inform our brothers in the media that the Federal Government has not given any bailout to any of the states. What had been shared last time was money from the NLNG and FAAC; and as we have been saying, we have not been looking for a bailout; instead, we have been looking for all the monies that are in the coffers of the federation, most especially we are talking about some of the monies that are hung around the coffers of government to be brought together for the purpose of sharing. “The CBN governor raised some issues that taking the monies from those accounts, especially as our reserves are going down, will affect the exchange rate and also the naira will have pressure; so, they decided to make the naira available or its equivalent so that those can be taken as loans by the states for some of us complaining about the (inability to pay) salaries. “Therefore, we are not taking any bailout from the Federal Government and the government has not given us any bailout yet. But we are talking on how best the intervention will happen so that we will be able to settle the issue of salaries and other operations of government in the country.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/high-naira-exchange-rate-worries-governors/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |

A friend sent this to my box and I feel i should share it with you and have your own opinion. According to him, he told me he copied it from his friend's Mfonobong Abel Ekene Facebook timeline. Apart from going to America to take pictures with Obama, what else did Rochas Okorocha, Adams Oshiomole, Tanko Al-Makura, Abiola Ajimobi and some other guys on Buhari's entourage went there to do? Rochas Okorocha was caught sleeping on Camera while an important meeting was going on! Adams Oshiomole, who has now turned a model is busy taking pictures with some horrible pose up and down.. He manage to slip his new wife to the US... for what? i dont know. Rotimi Amaechi has been off camera after they landed. Maybe he is somewhere in the street of America dancing shocki or making women hair... he wants to be weird every time. From what i can perceive it seems the CBN Governor and few others are the only one who knows what they are doing over there Imagine if president Buhari had gone with Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Udom Emanuel, Fayose, Fashola and others who know what it means to network and negotiate deals. Was it a private visit? And he went with 33 delegates? Non is a business man Non is a diplomat Non is a banker Non is a professor Non is a scientist Non is not corrupt Non is a Religious Leader Non is a traditional Leader Non is an artist Non is a good sport man Non is a Nationally acclaimed political leader Guys what is your opinion on this... The spokesperson of the president, Femi Adesina said that the issue of gay marriage was discussed during Buhari meeting in the US but he rejected the offer. “The issue of gay marriage came up here yesterday. PMB was point blank. Sodomy is against the law in Nigeria, and abhorrent to our culture,” he posted on his Twitter handle. The Department of State Security, DSS has presented Gordon Obua, the detained former chief security officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan to the press for an impromptu conference. At the impromptu press briefing on Tuesday afternoon at the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS), Obua said that he is “alive and well”. “Gentlemen of the press, let me use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians, members of my family and concerned citizens who have expressed very serious concerns for the past six days because of the prevailing situation between I and my office. Gordon Obua This morning my attention was drawn to the fact that I have died in detention. This has caused serious anxiety within the public. I want to use this medium to tell Nigerians, members of my family and all concerned citizens that I’m healthy. I’m a staff of the Department of State Services and having completed my tour of duty as the chief security officer to the last President, the service feels that I should give account of my tenure. So far, there is no adverse situation and I’m optimistic that Nigerians will be informed in due course about the outcome of this exercise. Once again, I thank you immensely. I also want to use the opportunity to thank the DG for the way he has handled me from the time I came in to the present moment. Nigerians should be assured that the Department of State Service is a very responsible organization and I believe that nothing adverse will be done to my person if I have not done anything wrong. I thank you very much,” he said. However, he declined to answer questions from reporters at the conference, pleading for understanding from them. “I am still a member of the DSS and I have limitations in addressing the press,” he pleaded. It will be recalled that on Sunday his lawyer raised alarms that Obua was denied access to outsiders, including his doctor, lawyer and family members as well as his medications for hypertension and diabetes Obua has been detained by the SSS in Abuja since the night of July 16 Source: http://www.enrichnaija.com/i-am-alive-and-in-sound-health-detained-jonathans-ex-cso/
