Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: What Is So Fascinating About Facebook? by idonland(m): 9:14pm On Sep 09, 2008
Facebook is for more than finding old friends, facebook keeps you up to date with whats going on in your friends lives. for people living in Naija its easy to stay current with your friends lives but for those of us that are here in yankee its a very useful tool. It gives you the ability to upload as many pictures as you want, so you can use it to store photos if you are into photography like i am. The big difference between facebook and most other neworking sites is security, facebook is way more secure than the others, if i dont want you to know im on facebook you will never see my name much less my profile. also you can provide restricted access to what people can see, so i can let mr A only see basic stuff while i left mr B see more and then ms C see everything. most other sites its all or nothing.

Also facebook can be a great marketing tool i know i definitely use it to market and promote stuff.

Oh and by the way facebook has been around for years now, i joined in december 2004 and i have seen it evolve into what it is now. If facebook isnt all that why have myspace and other sites adopted so many of its ideas and principles?
Career / Re: Doctors And Their Pay Packets by idonland(m): 4:52pm On Aug 19, 2008
Some of you on here are ridiculous, comparing Doctors to most other fields is not too smart. here in america the average GP earns about $150k, and they are they lowest paid doctors, depending on your specialization the average salary can go up over $500k. for the people that are saying you shouldnt go into medicine for the money you are lyingto yourselves, i know in yankee most doctors are in it for the money and not for the love of the country or the job. Do you think that people who invest $25k+ a year to go to medical school here do it for charity? No they do it because it is an investment in their future.

Doctors all over the world on average are amongst the highest paid professioinals both starting out and over time.

tpia:

I mean, I didnt want to say. undecided lipsrsealed

Its not only in the UK oh.

Anyone looking for get rich quick jobs, shouldnt really be interested in studying medicine, because the money doesnt come in as soon as they graduate. It takes time.

contrary to what you think it does come quick for most doctors outside nigeria, here in yankee everyone in med school expects to make well over $100k a year starting off right out of med school. even pharmacists expect to make close to $100k.
Romance / Re: Are Women's Morals Loosened Easily By Alcohol? by idonland(m): 4:11pm On Jul 28, 2008
alcohol is usually just the excuse that people use to do what they want and get away with it. I don't care how much i drink i still know what im doing, i may do things i normally wouldn't do but i know at the end of the day all i have to say is sorry i was drink.
Politics / Re: Has Fashola Really Done Anything In Lagos State? by idonland(m): 7:53pm On Jul 21, 2008
its funny, people living in Lagos might not notice the changes as much as those of us living in other states or countries, i lived in lagos for 12 years and i have been back at least once a year since then. when i came last year and i saw the work on ozumba and heard everyon complaining i told them that the work was going to be goo that they should wait and see, true to my word they are singing fashola and hitechs praise now. Projects like construction take time and they should not be rushed, people will be unhappy and inconvenienced but that is the price to pay for good standards.

About the drainage issue, firstly lagos is a low-lying state, so there are bound to be flooding issues, it doesnt matter what country of the world you go to in low lying areas they have flood concerns. I am in no way saying that the situation should not be better, of course it should, but that can only be done by stepping on some toes (some big some small), also when all the roads are better security will be better. traffic provides an avenue for miscreants to steal from people.

Job creation is not an easy issue to tackle, it is one that requires a long term plan and not a 1 year solution. And from what i have seen and heard they have one in place, just the energy city alone is a huge project.

I think beautification goes a long way to improve the morale of people, just ask yourself "wold you rather be broke and live in a dirty area or be broke and live in a clean and more beautiful area?".
TV/Movies / Re: Pirated Movie At Silverbird Cinemas? (Actually, No) by idonland(m): 4:49pm On Jul 21, 2008
if a movie was boot leg it would be obvious, the cameras they use to shoot bootleg movies are not high resolution so if they tried to blow it up to the big screen it would not be clear at all, also the sound quality would be horrible. My brother works for silver bird and i can assure you that they would never show bootleg movies, thats why you often have to wait a little bit before movies come out there.
Phones / Re: The FIRST 4G Mobile Phone by idonland(m): 7:38pm On Jul 03, 2008
as of right now the phone will be a waste of money since no network will be able to utilise its full speed, the fastest you can get now is EVDO rev-b (even that isnt really used yet, most companies are just now starting to use EVDO revA
Education / Re: Expulsion Scandal Rocks Covenant University: 120 Students Expelled by idonland(m): 10:13pm On Jul 02, 2008
i don't see why this si a big deal, if they knew the rules before hand and they broke them they should be punished, thats whats wrong with Nigeria today, people think they should be given leniency. Its the same attitude that translate to all aspect of our lives. If you break the rules you should be punished plain and simple. Personally i would not expel anyone for that offense but if they were given the rules ahead of time they should not complain because they knew what they were getting into.

Also the fact that there were 20 students with first class in one class is not a big deal either. if you go to the best schools in the world it happens every class. i was in unilag before i moved to school in the US and one of my lectures in lag said its impossible to get an A in his class, he said "A is for god, B is for me and C's and below you can have" If a student deserves a first class award them what they deserve. Also a lot of lecturers and professors in Nigeria are incompetent, they do not know how to teach or help students learn thats why so many students fail (i agree that the learning conditions are far from adequate also). But if in a class of 200, only 50 people pass that not the students fault, thats the fault of the professors. The stufff that they gave me for final exam in unilag was homework for me here in Yankee, but yet it seemed like it was impossible to understand while i was a student there. In my graduating class of about 200 there were over 20 people with first class.
Car Talk / Re: Traffic Violations In Lagos State Attract Ridiculous Fines by idonland(m): 5:23pm On Jun 12, 2008
I think its a great idea, if you break the law you should pay the fine, why should anyone in their right mind go against traffic in the first place? Also if you are sitting in your car and you let your driver go against traffic you are just as guilty as he is, you should be punished maybe even more because most likely you know better than he does.

And for the abandoned cars fine, it happens in just about every developed society, here in yankee it varys from state to state how much the fines are and also they can sell your car after 30 days if you dont pay.

I think it is a step in the right direction.
Autos / Re: Do Not Buy Any Used Vehicle Without Checking Out The Vin ! by idonland(m): 5:47pm On Feb 27, 2008
Actually a rebuilt title is different from a salvage title, a rebuilt title refers to a car that was a total loss and the it was rebuilt and passed some strict criteria. a salvage title does means the vehicle was bought in a damaged state.

Once again a vehicle with a rebuilt title is a vehicle that has been certified by the government as fit to drive it is very different from a salvage title.

Also a total loss vehicle does not mean that the car was damaged beyond repair, it just means that it was more economical for the insurance company to pay an equal value to the owner of the car instead of fixing it. For example if you own an older car and you were to get hit, more than likely if the damage is close to the estimated value of the car then they will declare it a total loss.

Also a car that was stolen and then was recovered after the insurance company had already paid for a new car for the customer will be branded as a salvage car. you need to look at the title and it will specify the type of damage or the reason for the salvage title.
Business / Re: "You Can't Ban Spraying, It's Our Culture" - KSA To Soludo by idonland(m): 5:27pm On Feb 27, 2008
i have the perfect solution, people should start spraying forex, Pounds, dollars, euros and for those that cant afford those they can use CFA or even yen lol

And the spraying thing is not just in Nigeria, even here in america, for everyone who has heard the term making it rain, what do you think they are referring to.

Also i believe we are where we are as a country due to mismanagement in the last 20years, the blame doesnt lie only on our leaders, it is the duty of the people who see a leader going wrong to speak up and let him know that they will not sit down and watch their futures be ruined. We have all failed as a people, we all sat back and enjoyed the stolen money, or the perks of having a corrupt society. I know a lot of people who say they never stole any money but yet they didnt pay their taxes, or they didnt do the little things that was required of them. Even the little things like following people to go on the wrong side of the street it all adds up to our me first mentality. We are all guilty of cutting corners so let us stop pointing fingers and turn towards ourselves and make a change from within, only then will our society start to improve.
Travel / Re: Pictures Of The Week (Ugly Side Of Lagos) by idonland(m): 8:38pm On Jan 23, 2008
For those who think the US is a bed of roses its not, there are areas here where the poverty is running rampant too, where houses are falling apart where kids go hungry, its not as noticable here because of how big the country is but if the united states were to shrink and have as many people as Nigeria does people will then see how bad things really are in this country.

If you dont believe me take a trip down to the south, drive through alabama, mississippi, louisiana and some other southern states.

If you want cheap computers, electronic. etc, go to BZB sites (in USA) you must buy in bulk

That site is a ripoff they are selling used/refurbished computers for almost the same price that you can buy them new or in smaller quantities. I wouldnt recommend using them.

Romance / Re: Advantages Of Polygamy? by idonland(m): 3:54pm On Jan 23, 2008
Blatant:

YES. we should ban polygamy but allow men and women to fuk anyone they like just like they do abroad and if they get caught, the women can just say their men don't give them enough attention or that they have fallen 'in love' with someone else.

What's the difference between polygamists and those who fuk around abroad?

make I hear word jare

sad Unfortunately what we fail to realize is that society as we know it is breaking down as a result of all the promiscuity, I live in America and the statistics are alarming, fewer and fewer children are being born to parents that are married. And that results in less structure upbringing for the children and as a result they are often under developed in some social aspects (although there are exceptions). But with that said, polygamy in promiscuity are totally different because for starters there is no commitment when someone sleeps around, in polygamy there is commitment, where if you father a child you have to raise him or her and love that child equally as you do the rest of your kids. Also you have to provide for the mother both financially and emotionally, and be more than a sperm donor.

Also we have to realise that because a man has 5 wives, it will not stop him from sleeping around, how do you think he got his 3rd 4th and 5th wives, his wasn't satisfied with just 2. I had a neighbor who had 4 wives all living under the same roof, needless to say there was chaos in the house quite often. The father tried to get with a family friend of ours, the crazy part is that he didnt hide it from his wives, they were almost numb to it. it was my father who talked to him and told him it wasn't right.

All in all polygamy doesnt have and advantages to the society, it may profit the man (and greatly so) but not the society. Obviously there are some families that it worked out for but im pretty sure that majority of the polygamous homes are not happy homes for everyone in them.

My guy if youthink its true love, go for it. Do not let others stop you from being happy with the one you love. I dated a woman older than me for 3 years and at the end of it i let the pressure get to me, i let them make me break it off, till this day i regret it but its too late now as i broke her heart and she will barely talk to me.

Don't make the same mistake that i made, follow your heart and not other peoples heads.

A 27 year old man does not have any business with a 16 year old girl, just think about it, have you ever heard a 16 year old being referred to as a woman. why would you want to sleep with a a child, there are many adults out there looking for men. How would you feel if some 27 year old guy messed with your 16 year old sister or daughter.

Thanks Guys!, does your sponsor necessarily need to share the same surname with you? I'm being sponsored by my Uncle. So i need not pay part of my fees before going for the interview is that right?wont the embassy require students pay all or part of their tuition before getting their visa? How do you know if a uni or college in usa is accredited?

You do not need to pay a part of your fees, as long as you have your acceptance letter and your form I-20 you should be fine, the embassy advises you not to pay any part of your fees before you are accepted, for the simple fact that you are not guaranteed a visa. Most schools have their accreditation details on their websites or in their catalog.
Sports / Re: Eto'o Is Truly A Nigerian! by idonland(m): 4:00pm On Jan 22, 2008
A-40

For your information both seal and Sade Adu are of Nigerian origin, Seals father was nigerian (his mother is brazilian) and his real name is Henry Olusegun Olumide Ongowe' Bongota Adelo Samuel and he has never denied being of Nigerian roots (although he claims his father abused him). Sades full name is Helen Folasade Adu and she also was born to a Nigerian father (an english mother) she actually lived in nigeria for a short while.

So lets get our facts together people.

As for Eto'o I have no comment, i will have to hear him say it for himself before i believe it.
