By JOB OSAZUWA
Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is demanding the relocation of some of the offices of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from their present locations in local government council offices.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Federal Ministry of Housing by Lagos PDP state Chairman, Olatunji Shelle, he said relocation of the offices to a neutral ground would engender confidence in the political parties in the state.
“The premises of the following local government council offices in Lagos presently serve as INEC offices are: Mushin, Apapa, Oshodi Isolo, Kosofe, Eti-Osa, Ojo and Agege. The location of INEC offices entirely in the premises of a political party does not generate the necessary confidence on the part of other political parties that are contesting for elective offices in Lagos State.
“The following premises have been identified and found suitable for this purpose: Mushin LGA =former NITEL office; Cappa Oshodi, Oshodi Isolo = former NRC secretariat; Okota, Apapa = former Federal Printing Press, Malu Road; Kosofe = former NITEL office, Shagisha; Eti-Osa = former Ministry of Housing building, Obalende; Ojo = former NRC secretariat, Okokomaiko and Agege = part of NYSC orientation camp, Ikeja,” the statement read.

Politics › South-East Traders Endorse Jonathan by Idumose(op): 8:44am On Jan 16, 2015 |
By Our Reporter on January 16, 2015
The re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan received a major boost yesterday as traders in the South-East announced their endorsement of his candidature for the February 14 presidential election.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the traders, under the aegis of South-East Traders Association made the announcement at a meeting with the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, in Awka.
Chairman of the association, Chief Eze Nwankwo, said the traders had also adopted all the candidates contesting in the elections on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the zone as their candidates.
Nwankwo disclosed that the decision of the group to throw its weight behind Jonathan and APGA candidates in the upcoming elections was influenced by the intense lobbying by Obiano.
He commended the governor for his determination, magnanimity and support to traders in the area and assured that sooner, “Ndigbo will take their rightful position in the country.”
He said the association, with members in Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, supported the strategic vision of APGA under its current leadership.
Reacting, Obiano thanked the association for resolving to adopt Jonathan as its candidate in the election, adding that only Jonathan would guarantee peaceful and prosperous Nigeria, devoid of discrimination and other forms of extremism.
He disclosed that the state government had commenced the construction of an international market at Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, to decongest the Onitsha market
He also announced that the government had harmonised all levies and fees being collected in the state, explaining that it was intended to eliminate cases of double or multiple taxation.
The governor urged members of the association to ensure that all levies are paid into government’s accounts appropriately, to beef up the state’s internally-generated revenue.

barcanista: Dear Nairaland PDP,
Election is neither a warfare nor is it an avenue to run campaign of calumny and hate against the APC's presidential candidate and members of his family. It is disgraceful and shameful that some of you have degenerated to the level of creating malicious threads to spite the wife and daughters of the amiable General Muhammadu Buhari. Unfortunately, the lovely wife of the incoming Vice President Osinbajo wasn't spared in the vile attack. Is this the issue based campaign that the National secretariat of PDP hypocritically advocated for? Why not campaign with what Jonathan has achieved since his ascension to power in February 2010? Why not tell us how he intend to consolidate on his achievement (if any)? What is there to gain in maligning the reputation and integrity of the amiable General, his running mate and members of their respective family? Why not cease from this form of disgraceful campaign and embrace decorum?
We should all embrace civility.

Former Military Strongman, Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday gave out his daughter in marriage to a prominent Borno man, Alhaji Babagana Muhammed Sherriff. Very curiously, Former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, who was recently accused by both Boko Haram directly and Senator Khalifa Zanna as having links to the sect, received the bride on behalf of the groom.
Another curiosity of the wedding was that only men were allowed to attend.
The wedding fatiha was conducted by the chief imam of the Yahaya Road Jumat Mosque at the same venue in the presence of Gen. Buhari and invited dignitaries, including Senator Kanti Bello, Gen. Buba Marwa and governors of Kano, Borno, Kaduna states, and the deputy governor of Nasarawa State, under a very tight security.

Former head of state and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections, Gen. The Emir of Bornu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, who stood in as the bride’s father, gave out Buhari’s daughter after the payment of a golden coin, equivalent of N200,000 as bride price. Former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, received the bride on behalf of the groom. Speaking to journalists at the venue of the reception, which was opened to men alone, General Buhari expressed satisfaction that his daughter, who is a lawyer, got married. He advised the couple to continue to be patient with each other and remain patient with each other and remain prayerful in all their endeavours.

PDP ‘ll Reclaim Lost Territories From APC – Mu’azu
By Chibuzo Ukaibe
— Jan 15, 2015 | 9 Comments
National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Adamu Mu’azu, yesterday declared that the PDP campaigns for next month’s elections show that the party is reclaiming lost grounds from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the party’s influence is rapidly growing with the unstoppable PDP campaign train moving around the country ahead of the February 14 presidential election.
In a statement by his chief press secretary, Tony Amadi, Mu’azu said after just six major stops in Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Osogbo and Ado Ekiti in the heart of the South West, the party is reclaiming lost territories from the opposition All Progressives Congress.
“We have sent a strong message that Continuity is the best option for Nigeria so that the great works of the Peoples Democratic Party’s federal and state administrations will lead us to the Promised Land.
“Our message to the youth of this country is that the PDP is the only party in this election which can make their future greater than what it is – creating and securing jobs for them, giving them sound training as we have done in the past four years and empowering them through the You Win programme and other job creating strategies we have set out.
“We are also making the people aware of the lies making the rounds at APC rallies across the country. They say they will fix the roads of the South East and reopen the Coal Corporation mines and energise coal power for electricity.
“Have they told Nigerians how much it will cost? How will the money be sourced? You can only make a promise you can fulfill, for the days of empty promises are truly over.”
He said PDP will not sit idly while the APC is getting away with “telling cheap lies to gullible people who have no way of knowing that they are merely making empty promises.”
He continued: “We tell it as it is; what we have done and what we intend to do when we get a second term for the president. We have hit the campaign road running and will tell the people the truth on the ground. By next week after rounding up the South East cities of Abakaliki, Umuahia, Owerri and Awka, the people of Nigeria will know that the devil you know is far better than the angel you don’t know.
“For 15 years, the PDP has worked the Nigerian political terrain perfectly, deepened democracy to the point that freedom is embedded in all of us and we are not going to return to another bout of dictatorship of the 70s and 80s where progress is stunted with visionless leadership forced on us. Nigerians enjoy real freedom under President Jonathan, a situation the APC cannot maintain if they win.
“That is why people abuse President Jonathan in Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere without the secret Police looking for them.
“The PDP will continue to show the light for the people to find their way under the leadership of President Jonathan who have done enough to deserve the continuation of the transformation of Nigeria until 2019”.

Am glad you also see it that way. Thank God you know Tinubu ought to be in jail as i type this post. Babangida,Obasanjo,Abdusalami Abubakar, also have to be in jail by now for corruption charges and you are also advising Jonathan to arrest them right? And you believe Buhari can order the arrest and prosection of these trio if he were elected as the President of this country?(God forbid though that Buhari Should govern this country) Let us quit behaving as kids bro.Adams Oshiomhole would have been the best governor Edo state "never" had if he didn't contest election,Judging from his sterling performance as Nigeria labour leader. But today Oshiomhole's second tenure so far is disappointing. Here are Buhari's exact words:
At the time the statement was made (2011), the government had not been able to establish any clear case against Abacha. Recently we were told some money was returned.
Corruption is rampant today and must be brought to halt. We can't afford 4 more years of Jetty money laundry and the present Corruption of Mass Action. Then wait until Jonathan steps down in 2019 and try him for corruption charges if there is any. It is an indictment on Buhari if he accepts that Abacha stole money because he served under him. |
