The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, on Wednesday stated that reports from media houses alleging that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo received N4bn from the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu is completely false.

The reports stated that the embattled EFCC acting chairman told the presidential panel probing him that he gave Osinbajo N4bn after the vice president asked him to release part of the recovered loot.

Bandits have attacked another community in Katsina state again killing no fewer than 15 farmers on Monday at Yar Gamji village in the Batsari Local Government Area of the State.

Residents who gave account of the incident said the farmers were working on their farms when the bandits attacked them at around 10am and murdered them.

Also, the bandits horrendous attack lasted for about an hour.

The eye witness said they immediately sent distress calls to the police who in response mobilised to challenge the bandits.

The counter attack from the police caused the bandits to retreat to the forest.

The PTF on Monday weighed in on the alarming increasing rate of COVID-19 infections among people in government, stating that it was taking a toll on governance and security in the country.

The PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, spoke about this at the task force press briefing in Abuja, he said the option of returning to a total lockdown is still being considered.

The Chairman advised all Nigerians to take the COVID-19 prevention measures seriously, and said the virus does not respect status.

In recent times, a number of governors and government officials have contracted the virus.

The SGF said, “Of recent, we have witnessed a high rate of positive cases especially among people in authority. This has a direct impact on governance and security of our nation. We urge that vigilance and care should be exhibited by all Nigerians, irrespective of status. This virus does not discriminate and the PTF shall keep sustaining its sensitisation messaging.”

The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has been arrested by the Department of State Services.

The Chairman was arrested on Monday afternoon at his Wuse II, Abuja office of the EFCC on Monday. The reasons for their arrest was that the Chairman was siphoning a portion of moneys the anti graft agency recovered from suspected looters.

We have also learnt that EFCC security personnel resisted strongly the move of DSS officials in arresting their boss.

The Court of Cassation stated a fine of $372,000, against Ahmed Douma, an activist over the same violence-related charges.

Ahmed Douma was one of the 230 people convicted back in 2015 by the Criminal Court in Cairo to life in prison.

All defendants except Douma were not present at their trial. Douma who was already serving a three-year-sentence for breaking a draconian law regulating protests.

The case are about clashes in Cairo back in December 2011, when fire gutted parts of a library housing rare manuscripts and books.

Also, other government properties, including the parliament, were damaged as a result of the protests.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Saturday officially announced that Lazarus Chakwera is the winner of Tuesday’s presidential re-run election.

The United States has criticized the Tanzanian government’s arrest of eight opposition leaders during their party meeting on Wednesday, stating that such actions are anti democratic.

A total of twenty-five new patients have died of coronavirus-related complications in Lagos State.
