In the same Lagos, politicians are ferried on leisure ride to occasions with choppers commissioned to serve the needs of the people...
I pray the man survives because getting prompt and adequate treatment is another herculean task...

OnReflection:
Your make a lot of points that are valid Gbawe. But if we ignore some of intemperate language used, so do others.

As one of the defenders of the commonwealth on these boards, I certainly stand by my earlier appraisal of Ogbeni.

I was one of ogbeni Aregbe's greatest supporters, to begin with.
But if you ask me for an appraisal of his efforts in the area of public administration, today, it is without equivocation that I would locate him as one of the least effectual leaders in the South West. While I can cite numerous examples of what informs my current view, let me draw on two that do not focus unduly on the state's current financial crises.

(1) Osun state has made the least effort to enshrine a framework of e-government.
- Budgets are hardly ever made public.
- Policy documents are scant
In sum, fiscal transparency is none existent

(2) The implementation of Opon Imo, an initiative which has proved to be both unsustainable and unfit for purpose, was a total sham.
- While we heralded this feat with great aplomb at the time, the truth is; no comphenesive trial was ever carried out.
- Difficult questions which might have helped to address stakeholder concern were fobbed off, in search of "a first" for Osun.
- When the state's chapter of the opposition party (PDP) questioned the involvement of Kabiru Aregbesola in this scheme, a telling response (copied in below) was provided by the governor

Source: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=113070

Please pay close attention to the statement I highlighted and tell me your sensibilities aren't offended by the lame attempt to rationalise nepotism.

P.S - I have deliberately limited my criticism to these two examples because I think Ogbeni is beleaguered enough as it is, at the moment.
You are right on point bro...
I was in Osun state during the electioneering process that ushered in Aregbe for the second time and I was privileged to interact closely with the big wigs in both PDP and APC. I must admit that PDP shot itself in the foot by fielding the wrong candidate, if the party had given Adeleke/Oke the ticket Aregbe would have lost. The financial problems in the state didn't just start now, it actually started mid way in the first term, the governor had to borrow heavily to mask it, make the state appear okay and also fund a very expensive second term campaign. Majority of Osun people knew this but had no choice than to vote him because he was the ''better option''.
It's becoming worse now because loan repayment is hitting the state hard leaving legions of abandoned projects with no hope of completion.
I pity the person that will take over from Aregbe though...

That is the only solution that makes sense and I suggested it last week on this thread

Any other solution would just create crisis and the decision would easily be overturned by the court

Faleke-Jnr Audu ticket now. Groom the junior Audu to get the seat later
Yeah yeah... I did too last week.
Apparently, some forces aren't comfy with Faleke's emergence hence the declaration of the election inconclusive in the first place. A reliable source hinted that INEC was ordered to declare it so after it emerged that the senior audu had kicked the bucket while collation was on going.
Let's see how it goes...

APC Puts Yahaya Bello’s Nomination On Hold, Calls For Emergency Meeting

Report reaching DAILY POST from the APC Secretariat in Abuja has it that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has put on hold the nomination of Yahaya Bello as the governorship candidate of the party in the coming re-run in the state.

The party has consequently called for an emergency “stakeholders” meeting for 3pm with the aim of resolving impasse.

The nomination of Bello had sparked protests in Kogi State with many saying he is not fit to govern the state.

More to come…

An arrangement is presently being fine tuned to throw up Faleke as the candidate and Mohammed Audu as the running mate making it a win-win for the Igalas in general and the Audus in particular.

Indeed he has a good case but I doubt his chances, the igalas are highly tribalistic with tendencies to get violent if things don't go their way. They also have the numbers which they always use to their advantage / detriment of others.

What's the commonwealth part about? Perhaps we should create a new thread titled "Yorubas In Diaspora News Thread"?
Seun Good Day,
Commonwealth according to my dictionary is a politically organized body of people under a single government and I think this thread served and it's still serving the purpose it was so named. If time permits, please go through the thread thoroughly you'll discover that majority of what goes on here is actually political, we discuss our history, our connections, our bond and we discuss developmental initiatives across the states that make up the south west geo-political zone.
As expected of a thread like this, emotions and opinions often heat up bringing up issues and discussions that might be termed non-political but then we still keep track of the thread's intent and purpose.
I think you should move the thread back to politics as the name already implies and get the moderator to maybe clean up if need be.

It is unlikely an Owo indigene would claim half Bini ancestry, unless one of his/her parents is/was from Benin.

It's no different from someone in Ibadan claiming half Igbo or half Ijaw if one of his parents is from those areas.

Any contact between Benin and Owo starts and ends with the fact that Owo is the last big town in Yoruba territory on the way to Benin in ancient days. The Benin Empire launched several attempts to invade and conquer Owo, but were gloriously repelled on each occassion grin

Even to this day, you'll find that folks in places like Ondo and Ekiti are ready to rumble any invasive force any time any day.
I stumbled on this earlier on. .

In their oral tradition, Owo traces its origins to the ancient city of Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba culture.[2] Oral tradition also claims that the founders were the sons of the Yoruba deity Odudua, who was the first ruler of Ile-Ife. The early art-historical and archaeological records reinforce these strong affiliations with Ife culture.[2] Owo was able to maintain virtual independence from the neighboring kingdom of Benin, but was on occasion required to give tribute.[3] The transmission of courtly culture flowed in both directions between the Benin and the Owo kingdoms. The skill of Owo's ivory carvers was also appreciated at the court of Benin. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Benin's rulers increasingly utilized insignia made from ivory, and imported Owo's art objects and recruited its artisans for their own royal workshops.[4] There were other notable artworks that can be evidently supported.[5]

MayorofLagos:
Im trying as much to not discuss Northern issues but there is a strong tease particularly a myth which lack of knowledge and cheap ridicule has made acceptable evrrytime Hausa and North is mentioned amongst Yorubas.

We must, I stress this...we Yorubas must study and thoroughly understand the North if we desire by any means to return to regionalism or seceed from Nigeria.

There are two majority tribes in North, Hausa and Kanuri, thats it. Fulani is a minority but the elite and ruling class. Beside Islam, they worship traditional cults in North and they have Christians as well. There are Hausas, Kanuris and Fulanis that consult oracle and they also have ritualists up there.

Fulanis never had kingdoms in their history...never anywhere in the history of Africa do you find an old Empire of Fulani. They were a sub culture under Songhay Empire and Mali Empire.

The occassion of Fulani having Emirates is a revolution in Hausaland. They simply occupied thrones and palaces preexisting and owned by Hausa Kings. Fulani did not know how to erect a kingdom or city. The walled cities, the history and office were already institutions of power....they simply eliminated the owners, walked up and occupied the vacancies. The Hausa Sarkis that escaped went Southward into Lokoja. Fulanis believe their success in Hausaland should work in Kanuriland, in Nupeland, in Yorubaland, in Iboland....that they can carry out a campaign of terror, intimidation, elimination and then subjugation to culminate in sacking the throne and converting ownership. They are still ambitious till today and when their efforts are blocked they throw tantrum and blame it on intolerance for their cow herds to graze. Its a plot!

In Yorubaland if your family name is Fayemi or Fashola or Fasakin...instantly you have given hints how to locate your family compound. It doesn't matter where you are in the world, we have your code and we can trace you to your family chain. Its not like this in North

You cannot trace a Sanusi, a Ibrahim, a Mohammed, a Yusuf, a Buhari. There are millions with these last names and are spread across many desert countries, from Darfur, Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Burkina, Benin, Ghana, Mali.... So then an Ibrahim Yousuf in Nigeria is not necessarily a Nigerian even if he speaks Hausa, the lingua franca across many communities in the Sahel and Dessert.

If you take Ayo Ogunmade from Lagos to Ijebu, to Ijesha, to Ekiti, Egba, Ibadan, Okun, Offa, Ilorin, Jebba, Saki, Epe, Badagry....ati bebe lo, he will remain Ayo Ogunmade, his name will never change due to location or relocation. It is not so in North. They go by a different code.

Abubakar Adamu was born and raised in Funtua. He goes to Kano for secondary education and decides to drop his last name and adopt his town. He becomes Abubakar Funtua. He goes afterward to University of Maiduguri. His friends are Kanuri and startbto call him Babu Funtua. Abubakar, Abu Sadiq, Babu, Bakar, Bacar, Abacha...are different to the Southerner, but to the Norther are all same. In fact if this guy goes to Sokoto serve youth corp his friends there would know him as Abubakar Sadiq Funtua! Mohammed, Modu, Momodu, Mo, Momoh are all the same name. As a result of our lack of understanding, we have in reality had some foreigners in the Sahel occupy positions reserved for Nigerians, under cover of language, culture and faith common in the North. In all these we busy ourselves reminding the Northerner that we are smarter than them.

If.you study the history of Lokoja we see it is a confluence, and what in old order would be termed strategic and.prime location. Strategic to who? To those who wield powers and armies and are looking for prime crossroads to occupy because it served as resting place as well trading spots or exchanges or markets and hence opporthnity to tax. So who were the Great powers in the immediate vicinity to occupy this spot?

You can eliminate Igala and Hausa. Hausa had no contigous domain connecting with Lokoja. If Igala had power Lokoja was beyond its league to contend authority over.

Oyo Ile was a powerful Imperial seat and within stone throw of Lokoja. Bida was a seat of a king and not an Emperor, but has close proximity also...but the presence of Hausa and others and their claim is not supported either by their own history, that of the old order of political supremacy or the name of the town itself. Lokoja in Yoruba is synonymous with a passage.....well, thats exactly what the place is, a passage or intersect.! What does Lokoja mean in Igala, Nupe or Hausa?

I shared these many background and info on a very simple.matter that doea not requore a lenghty narration but if you learn a thing or two here then the effort is worth it.

We cannot continue to yield a land everytime its in contention with Northerners. If we own it and history supports our ownership of it then by God, we must support that ownership with cultural facts and historical legends. We cannot go with what is...a result of reshape and remodelling of ancestral lands exercised by reckless military rulers.

Okun people own Lokoja. Nupe has a tiny chance of contention if they disprove Okun as the owner. Igala and Hausa should just fvk off and dropbtheir silly claim. angry
Spot On!
It can also be said that Lokoja as a passage was mainly used by Sango and his people while sojourning between Oyo Ile and Nupe, my thoughts though.

Good day dear
We don't know exactly what causes excessive saliva. Though it is harmless, it can be distressing and difficult to cope with. You may be woken up because you're dribbling so much, or be reluctant to swallow the saliva, because it makes you feel even queasier. If you're producing a lot of saliva, it can also make the skin around your mouth sore. There aren't any cures for excessive saliva, but you could try these tips: Suck on a lemon or lime, or put a few drops of lemon or lime essential oil on a tissue to sniff. Use a mouthwash that's safe to take in pregnancy.Suck on a mint sweet or chew mint-flavoured gum. Brush your teeth with minty toothpaste.Suck an ice cube. All the best my dear. God's blessings
Many thanks,

Most folks believe Odudywa came with the crown, a wrong notion if you ask me. Obatala owns/owned the crown, Oduduwa and Obatala engaged in a face off, Oduduwa won and as a result seized the crown and exiled Obatala to the depths of Mokuro, former Ugbo settlement.
The crown was kept away in the palace and unused until after Oduduwa, it became the object of coronation and spiritual fortification for the Ooni.
Where Oduduwa came from and many other details about him remain a secret to the Oduduwa adherents/house in Ife but for me, he came from one of the 13 hamlets in Ife to usurp power, unify into an entity and set up a central administration system - an ambitious guy.
If he was out of town then how would he have been able to communicate or even convince the likes of Obameri, an Ife man to join his team against Obatala? Plus, he would have left an Arabian imprint on the system.

I believe there is a reason his adherents/house look to Oke-Ora but they won't give details angry
Yes, the chain is at the compound but I've never seen it. There are certain off limits for my family and their family - getting to each other's compounds itself requires not sitting in some places or taking one's leave when some processions start; the ewos are so many and na due to the beef since Obatala and Oduduwa period.
Waow!
This is another angle entirely-highly believable too!
I wish to know more about this Ife-Bini relationship and the back and forth on the history linking us, I understand there is a place in Ile Ife where they bury significant remains of all dead Oba of Benin and also read that up until recently, the benin monarch cannot enter Ife.

Who was the King? Was he Lamurudu or not?
This one is controversial. Please help me out. Did Oduduwa really come down from Heaven or he came from Saudi Arabia? It is subjected to the interpretation of Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court has already established that the candidacy belongs to the party and not an individual. I believe based on that, the election can go ahead, except Supreme Court wants to contradicts herself.

The Supreme Court has established that the candidacy belongs to the party in any election, rather than the individual that is actually contesting. That is why you will have to vacate your seat if you defect to another party now. If the party also expels you, they cannot ask you to vacate your position until expiration of your tenure, except you a legislator that can be recalled by the constituency. This protects the party from defection and the individual from victimisation.

In that light, the flagbearer for APC is technically Faleke. Though it is not Faleke that is contesting, but APC. He can only name his deputy after the swearing in, which he will send to the state house of assembly for approval.
Well said superstar,
But you seem to forget the duly elected part of that provision, all you said can come into play if and only if the party's candidate has been declared duly elected.
As it stands now, with inec declaring the election inconclusive, a gap has been thrown up without any provision being made for it by the constitution.
Faleke cannot pull an ''Atiku/Boni Haruna'' on this because the election is still on going, he can go court to substitute his name for audu-which also is another legal drama entirely-, The APC can also go to court to request for replacement of candidate, PDP can go to court to enforce it's right as the runner up and lastly, all or either of the parties involved(INEC, APC and PDP) can request for outright cancellation.
In the end, all will have their say and day in court and we'll probably witness another landmark judgement.

My take though...

The law is an ass Ritchiee,
As it stands now, there is a lacuna-a gap not adequately provided for by the constitution- Faleke cannot fully lay stake to that mandate since the election has been declared inconclusive.
The argument now is whether he's allowed to conclude the election as the gubernatorial candidate or his party APC is allowed to field another person or INEC cancels the election totally or The PDP approaches the court to claim victory...
Many options, plenty confusion...
