On Gratitude Gratitude is the expression of appreciation for the kindness, blessings, or favors we receive. It goes beyond mere politeness, as it reflects a deeper sense of acknowledgment and thankfulness. There are two main types of gratitude: situational and dispositional. Situational gratitude arises in response to specific acts of kindness, such as receiving a gift or a helping hand. Dispositional gratitude, on the other hand, is a broader, more consistent attitude of thankfulness that shapes how we view life and the people around us. Despite its importance, gratitude is something many people struggle with. It is easy to take the kindness of others for granted, becoming so accustomed to receiving favors, gifts, or support that we feel entitled to them. We fail to recognize that these gestures are privileges, not rights. The story of Jesus and the ten lepers in the Bible offers a profound lesson on gratitude. When Jesus healed the ten lepers, only one of them—a Samaritan—returned to thank Him. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?” (Luke 17:17). This moment highlights how often we overlook the need to express gratitude, even for the most significant blessings in our lives. Gratitude is transformative, especially in our relationships. In marriages, for instance, showing appreciation for a spouse’s efforts—whether big or small—can foster a sense of respect and deepen emotional intimacy. A simple “thank you” for cooking dinner or taking care of a household task can go a long way in making partners feel valued. Within families, gratitude builds stronger bonds and creates a happier environment. Parents who express gratitude for their children’s contributions, no matter how small, encourage a sense of responsibility and self-worth. Similarly, children who acknowledge their parents’ sacrifices foster mutual respect and love. Friendships also thrive on gratitude. Expressing thanks for a friend’s support, time, or kind words strengthens trust and mutual care. Even in professional settings, gratitude plays a critical role. A genuine “thank you” to a colleague or mentor can foster a more positive and collaborative workplace culture. Gratitude is more than a virtue; it is a practice that enriches every aspect of life. By embracing both situational and dispositional gratitude, we nurture deeper connections, foster happiness, and cultivate a life filled with contentment and joy. Let us remember to pause, appreciate, and give thanks—for even the smallest blessings can have the greatest impact.

In reflecting on the hypothetical question of choosing between my mother and my wife, I have come to the conclusion that, in such an unlikely scenario, I would prioritize my mother. This decision stems from a few key observations: 1. Unwavering Support: Mothers consistently give to their children, regardless of their age or circumstances. For example, when I recently embarked on a challenging journey to pursue my master’s degree, my mother contributed significantly, providing financial support of approximately 2 million NGN and foodstuffs for my travel. In contrast, my wife did not contribute to this endeavor but instead focused on financial demands and obligations I needed to fulfill before leaving. 2. Differing Priorities: I have observed that my wife tends to prioritize her family of origin over our household. Her financial contributions often lean toward supporting her parents rather than addressing our shared responsibilities at home. 3. Constructive Support vs. Criticism: A mother’s nurturing nature often involves understanding her child’s weaknesses and helping them grow. Conversely, my wife has been more critical of my shortcomings and has, at times, shared these with her family members, which can feel undermining. 4. Unconditional Love: A mother’s love is deeply rooted and unconditional, while affection in marriage often seems conditional, influenced by circumstances or expectations. These reflections highlight the enduring sacrifices and selflessness of a mother, making her irreplaceable in my life. While this is a personal perspective, it underscores the unique and invaluable bond between a mother and her child. Share your views

We are in interesting times. Some people have chosen to remain silent to the atrocious activities of the current administration because the president is their tribesman. There would have been the loudest critic if the situation is different. May God deliver us from hypocrites. |

Good evening. Recently there was a leakage of my gear oil and I didn't observe on time. I only noticed when I found it difficult driving the car as gear was struggling to select. Fast forward, the cause of the leakage was traced and fixed. I have to buy 2 gallons of gear oil WS. But I now noticed that the gear struggles to select gear 1 to 3 especially 3. The tire screeches when it tries to select gear 3. Can this be fixed and like how much should I project for it? |
